    Awesome! This fixed my super annoying driver side back door that wouldn’t lock. Now my kids don’t set off the alarm every time they try to open the door before I unlock the rest of the car haha. My truck is a 2014 XLT super crew. Luckily, I was able to make the repair without taking to door panel off. Hopefully it holds or I will be back to this video for the door panel removal if it fails. Thank you again for saving me a ton of cash on this repair.

    Thanks for this Walk thru. I will be attempting this, this week. I just got a replacement door catch/actuator from a local Pick and Pull Junk yard, they charged me $25. While the junk yard did NOT have any 2012 F150's... it did have a 2014 Ford Explorer. Both vehicles use the same door latch/actuator! This morning I just tested my original catch with the use of an external power supply. It worked! So now I know I have a broken wire somewhere! Hopefully this is where its at!

      You should be able to pull up on the door lock up top. If it's giving you resistance, the actuator itself is getting faulty and dirty inside. Had mine do the same, I ended up replacing the whole actuator a year or so later after this wiring harness repair.

      Yes, I have had an issue with it a few times. Once, the door was saying ajar going down the road. It wasn't. And, also locking the truck and setting the alarm to on, yet the back doors didn't lock. So, opening them did trigger the alarm.

      You could repair with the door panel in place. I removed the door panel to gain a little more room with my hands, and to pull the wiring harness backwards and out of the speaker slot to extend the length I was working on. But, I suppose you could do either way.

    Had a similar issue with the same harness giving me a "left door ajar" message. Broken wire as well. Now I'm having the door lock issue, so I'm sure its probably the harness again. I actually ordered a new harness from Ford. With that pinch point being what it is, I don't want too many splices in it. Any idea on how difficult it would be to change the whole harness out?

    • @SmashingPunkFan
      @SmashingPunkFan  Рік тому

      Hey, thanks for watching 👍
      I'm not really sure how difficult it would be. There would only be a few more connections inside the door frame like on the lock actuator itself. Those were kinda difficult to remove. I'm sure it couldn't be much harder than at this point in the video. How much did it cost you just out of curiosity?

    I have this EXACT same issue on my 2011 FX4 (only 37k miles). But, for some unknown reason, when this issue occurred, I also sporadically lost my factory backup camera. I can't imagine how a rear driver-side door harness could affect the backup camera simultaneously. I'm wondering whether the harnesses located under our driver seat might have similar issues... Anyone have thoughts or advice on this issue? That is, if there is no way that rear door broken wiring could impact the backup camera connection, then I would bet anything that my particular issue is a couple feet upstream beneath the driver's seat, where tons of other connections come together. Thank you to anyone who might respond!

      I had a similar situation after this repair. The dust built up so badly inside the actuator, even by hand was almost impossible to unlock by grabbing the lock post and pulling up. Once I got it open by forcing it open by pulling up the lock post (top of the door) I used WD40 and lubricated the actuator. It helped immensely.
