- Using my 2002 F150 I show you how I fixed the problem of my rear door (supercab) not opening. Fortunately I did not have to replace the cables and opted to use a zip tie. The door has been working fine with the zip-tie in place for almost 6 months
Brilliant! Twenty minutes and one zip tie later, my '02 rear driver-side door is back in action! Thanks for posting.
Outstanding!
There is a special place in heaven for you my friend thank you for this advice
Thank you sir I wish you the best.

Huge help! You don’t have to break that pin though at 2:35. You just push the center in with one side of your needle nose and it pops right out unbroken. This video was so incredibly well shot (one handed fix!) and so short and easy. You’re the man! Hope my little tip helps someone.
Saved my pin, THANKS!
@@kylewidmar3177 glad to hear it! Nice to put it back together with all the pins intact.
Aw, man. I wish I read your comment before destroying my pins!
@@atomaardappel566 ugh! Yeah, I almost did that too- only reason I didn't was cause the great guy that made the video commented about this breaking the pins... so I was thinking "there has to be a way to do this without breaking the pins" so I looked carefully and got lucky.
Just wanted to say thanks for the video, I just did this repair on my 1999 F-150. Exactly the same. One 5 cent zip tie made the repair. Again, thank you very much.
Saved me money having someone diagnose and fix the thing. This is the best kind of content that UA-cam puts out. Thanks!
This video is spot on!!! I used this to fix both of my doors on my 2002 f150 and it was just like the video! Thanks for saving me a lot of money in repairs!!! This is what youtube is about!!!
I will clap to you a respect for doing this fix with one hand 👏👏👏
I bought the parts i needed, thought! I spent $7 on those pieces and then found this! Fixxed in minutes!! Thank you!!!
Good video told me how to get the inner panel material off my "third" door on passenger side 98 model. Mine the black plastic cable end collar stopper things had broke on cable for upper latch, so I opted to replace them with new aluminum ends, not that expensive a set of 4 to do one door run $5 - $15 online or at your local parts store. Other videos on YT show how you either replace the ends which is usually all you need or the entire cable as desired or required. You can push the white / yellow plastic piece out squeezed with needle nose pliers. (SEE, little white nylon plastic circular thing @3:54 in video center screen which is to the right of the spring.) Be careful, (and try to do when the temperature is reasonably warm, duh, or warm gently with hairdryer first) but if you break the plastic parts, can also get new of those as well. Cable then comes loose of the mechanism and can pull up and out to either put new aluminum cable end on (replace the black plastic cable end under finger in this frame) or new cable. You do NOT need to drill any rivets out to replace the ends or the entire cable for that matter, just DON'T. When buying new cable ends, try to get a set where one is different, a bit thinner at the end having what is termed a "cam end", for easier install in the top latch.
On mine only the upper cable ends were broke so did not bother the bottom, being after watching this video and doing, why I can get back in there in like 10 minutes if ever need to! Oiled and greased everything, figure bottom cable will last life of the truck. Other videos on YT also will show you how to remove torx head screws so the latches can be accessed to replace those collar ends. Got mine DONE, thanks much for video, just trying to help you guys and gals out there with yours. Good luck.
Watched several videos on fixing my Ford's back door and they were all longer than it took me to use your fix. Wish I came across yours first. Working like new. Thanks for your post!
you sir are a lifesaver. both doors have been broken for years i am getting ready to sell i decide to youtube and find this. 5 minute fix. much appreciated
This was a God send. I'm at my daughter's with a large box behind the seats, limited tools, and the door wouldn't open. I had just enough room to get at it from the doorway. My problem was also the upper latch, and was resolved with a cable tie. Crisis averted. Many thanks!!

Fixed the drivers side a couple of years ago, fixed the passenger side today,. Thanks for making a good, to the point video.
My dad has an old 2004 F150 and recently this is what happened for him on both sides! Bottom cable on the left and top on the right. Thanks to your video I was able to get inside and put a ziptie in. He hasn't had any issues since! We did end up taping the plastic bit back just to make sure since it was't as sticky as I imagined it used to be. Thank you so much!
This was very helpful...put the same fix on my door and it works perfectly. Thank you.
I wish I watched this video BEFORE I tried to pry the door open, shred the plastic coating on the latch up top, and pull off the weather sealing! I haven’t tackled the job yet but it looks exactly the same as my issue! Thanks for the video!
Thank you. Came out of Walmart and my back door wouldn't open. I could tell it was the top latch. Came home and found this video. 15 minutes later, all fixed and back together!
Thank you!! Very easy to follow instructions, I'm going to try this for my truck because neither back door will open. Fingers crossed! 🤞
You showed me the answer to my problem! Thanks a hundred million for posting this video! Very helpful, apparently to a lot of people!
2001 f150!! June 18th 2024 here!! Thank you so much bro!! Explained it very well and was easy to follow. Thanks again !!
Mine stopped working today on the driver side. So I'm like maybe it's because I slammed it. So I went to the passenger side and slammed that side too. Now they both wont open. Fml
Sounds like my luck.Great running truck but starting to rot of its frame.
My man!!
It’s because they use plastic and plastic doesn’t hold up
@@Austin_B_Videos Yup plastic never has and never will hold up for this application anyway. While it doesn't take a BSME to figure that one out, we won't blame the engineering department. Engineering at Fomoco was probably over ruled by the bean counters 27 some years ago. So what did they care since most light trucks are sold to the commercial / fleet markets and therefore are built with a design life of like 10 years or 100k miles, which ever comes first.
Same here bud, sucks.
Super helpful - thank you so much! Took me maybe 20 minutes end-to-end to apply the same fix and my door now opens and closes just fine.
Another F150 back door fixed pretty easily thanks to you and your video!!! 👍🇺🇸
This video just helped me a ton. Not each of my kids can get in their own door. Greatly appreciate your help
Thanks! Just saved me a tone of time. I was getting ready to drill out the rivets in the door handle.
Just fixed my 1999 f150. Thanks so much for the video! I didn’t realize there was a top latch. Kept fiddling with the lower and got nowhere. Thanks again!
I had to do this before, but it was just the bottom not working. This time it was the top and I just couldn't see where the top cable was. This video saved my day, today.
Thanks man that piece broke off but ended up jamming a shoelace and ziploc to hold it up so it would move and the cable could latch. Wouldn’t have known how to Jimmy rig it without you!!! 🤙🤙
Thank you this is exactly what happened with the truck I'm working on thanks for making this video to clarify how to take it apart of all the door panels I've taken apart on these suicide type doors this is one of the easier ones to do especially when the door is stuck locked and you got take the panel off and get it open from the inside
August 2022: Just fixed the door on my 1999 F-150. Thank you so much.
Excellent video! Clear instruction. I look forward to fixing mine.
1997 f150 3rd door stopped working today. Going to check the cable and go from there. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for the video…must be a common failure point. Had this happen to my 2003. Easy fix when you have seen the process.
Zip tie trick works great. Did my passenger side 3 plus years ago and still works just fine. Refreshing now to do the other side that just broke.
Much obliged to you, pal !!! Mine had exact same problem with upper cable. Same fix but I used a brightly colored Zip. Never would have been able to remove those panels without your video !!!
Thanks very much. Due to this suggestion, I was able to fix mine in a few minutes. Works like a charm!
Thanks...........my passenger side rear door has quit opening. I can tell the bottom is releasing, but not the top. This video is a big help.
Theres a lot of lousy videos on this fix. This one is the best. Thanks for posting
Thanks, that was a perfect UA-cam car repair video. Door on my 01 works like a champ, cost me one wire tie.
Thank you for posting this video. I have the same truck with same door issue. Looks like it's a relatively easy fix.
There is a cable sheath end repair part, I got one from the local auto parts store for $12. The part number for the cable sheath end is "doorman 926 111".
I just used these to fix the 3rd door on my '97 XLT Flareside. The stock part is plastic/rubber and will dry rot over time, but these aluminum parts should last forever. Easy fix without replacing the entire cable.
Thanks. Got mine fixed with the zip tie but if you take the three screws out of the top of the door you can undo the cable from the mechanism where you put the tie and pull the cable and all out and replace fairly easy as well.
rip rap thats my next move after the cable arrives, thanks for that information.
Since I posted this my zip tie rig had failed. I had to get the aluminum ends you can get off of Amazon. They are working well. My doors get used multiple times a day with the kids getting in and out.
@@jumpinggulley it looked like it would slip upward.. i would have used a second zip tie to keep that one in place
Great 5 minute fix I did open door and fix from outside , Texas too hot to be inside and the nut is a 10 millimeter..
My door just failed too but lucky for me I just redid my AC system so I’ll be fixing it from the inside the truck with it running 😂
Very good, that's what I like to see, people helping people, good job brother man
Had the same problem with my truck. Watched your video and fixed the problem. Thanks for putting it out there.
Thank you kindly. This worked for both my rear doors. One was out for a few years. Thanks
Thank you! Did what you did, same cable was disconnected, door works awesome now! Thanks again
Thanks! All it took was a zip tie and my door is working perfectly again 😄
Wow glad I found your video. My door won’t open either. May be the same thing. Thanks for the video and the good advise. Probably better that the cheap original part. Ford should be ashamed....
Just fixed my truck door with this video. Thanks for putting it out there.
Thanks man not easy holding a camera. Appreciated.
New
NE o
that is a 10mm on that bolt and I had to use a couple zip ties. one to keep it in the slot and one to straighten more vertical. thanks for the vid, both my doors were locked.
Thank goodness I found yours bc your the only one that I’ve found that helped a lot. And I’ll be able to fix my 1999 f150 back door in no time
As a new owner of a used 01 f150, thank you.
Thanks for this. Now to fix the bottom latch on the driver's side of my 99.
Thanks man! Saved me from tearing apart the rivets!!!
amazing, and so simple, i was making it way too difficult since i didn't want to take the window off (i didn't know i had to essentially to get that top panel off LOL.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Great video!!! Helped me out with my 2003 F150!!!
Thank you. Great simple video. To the point. Great job.
Great Video thankyou, both my doors are out so this saved me QUITE a hefty bill.
Great info on that peep hole.
Gonna try that before I order any parts or disassemble.😄👍
Now the looking through the handle to see if the cable was broken or dislodged was a great tip! I have a 98 and only one back door with a back seat full of garbage, parts, fishing gear, empty bee... I mean fishing juice cans ect. It is going to be a nightmare to get at but maybe if it is the same issue I can manually pop the door open through the handle.
Excellent video especially the close ups I have to do this with both my doors
Thanks for the info helped me out got both my doors going again 👍🏼
Thanks for the video! Helped me fix the same issue on my 01!
Just had the same issue with mine. Thanks for the video, it was a huge help!
Man this helped me out faster than anyone I could so I want to say thank you
worked perfectly with your guidance - thank you !
10/10 video quick and to the point. Sub'd
Yes sir I have the same problem in my truck 2002 four doors they don't want to open the driving side door the way I look at your video is the way I'm going to do it in my truck thank you very much
Thank you sir!! Exactly what I was looking for
Fixed both my doors in 20 min! Thank you sir!

Thank you bro I fixed my upper in 2 point 2 seconds tks
This worked for me thank you!! I am glad you made this video
Doorman part# 926-111 is a medal part, better than plastic...you may know that already, bro.
Did not know that thanks for the heads up
Man your a life saver dead on thanks keep doing what you do
Awesome video. Worked like a charm.

WOW !! that's a great video very well explained and super good job on your video skills
Thanks man
Thanks dude gonna try to fix my 03 , driver side back door
LeatherMan at its Best...Thanks Dude!
Awesome video!!! Mine did the same thing and you were dead on!!! Thanks
You just made my day man!! Thanks a MILLION!!👍👍
I bought the pieces on Amazon for the cables and put one on the piece you tie wrapped. I had to use a small c clamp and put it in the door and pull the cable back in place after putting the piece on the cable first.
They come 4 to a package and are kind of cone shaped
This was spot on brother! Thanks!
Thanks looking into mine on my 03 f150 soon now!
Thanks, I can tell my top one unlatches, but not the bottom. Hoping for a zip tie fix too!
spot on fix thank you save me a lot of time an trouble
Thank you for the helpful video. I can do all that if I can see how to get it apart. And now I know. Interesting that the latch looks identical to the one inside the tailgate. I've had to replace that one before because one of the latch ears broke off. It's made of pot metal, not steel.
