    Nice addition to the rig! Side note on the 2nd spare tire: not sure if you have an onboard air compressor or not but something I've done in the past to make space for an oversized spare is to deflate it enough so that it fits (can be squished) into the stock storage area. Then, when and if you need it just remove, inflate, install and your off! Doesn't work on every rig but it may be worth a try. Headed to Baja for Nov/Dec hope to run into you!

    One of the best things to use when traveling to baja is Yelp. It’s been a life saver since they went live a couple years back .

    Since you have a snorkel, take advantage of a pre filter. Amazon has ones for $50 that work really well. Just trying to keep as much sand out of your air filter.

    for a ute setup you have the room to double stack 4 tires off the rail system
    if you are shredding tires that much I be checking you tire pressure to suit off road conditions..

    my only question is what keeps things from binding up on your tailgate latch rods?

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  7 років тому +5

      You just have to be careful, or make some additional mods. Tonight I loaded: Trauma first aid kit, jumper cables, compressor, tire repair kit, and the legs to my Skottle. No issues with binding, the gear is thick enough to not just collect at the bottom, and gravity keeps the items off the rods. It will take me a while to decide on final config. and items.

    • @Abundanthealthcoach

      James Wagner my question too. Wonder how strong the lif is for bearing weight, weight of body weight on knees

    • @vt3fan4evr
      @vt3fan4evr 7 років тому +2

      From the looks of it I would say that it is strong enough for that. I was just worried something might bounce around and jam up the rods for his tailgate.

    I have two questions. How has the tailgate storage held up so far? Would you recommend putting sound deadening material in the tailgate? Thanks

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  4 роки тому

      It’s been great, and it’s held up great. Not inexpensive, but the quality materials have stood the test of time. The contents deaden sound pretty well. Not needed imo but my help if your noise standards are high.

    I don't think you mentioned how many days/weeks you have for the trip or what kind of activities/places you're looking for?
    I've done many Baja trips, most recent was just a South bound on our way to Panama.
    I think you would have enjoyed the driving we did and you can camp damn near anywhere once you get away from towns.
    Cross Mexicali, go to Mikes Sky ranch.
    -Take the south road out of Mike's go to El Rosario/Mama Espinosa's
    -from there you can drive down the 1, about 50 miles I think, and enter the "7 sisters" road for Puerto Canoas(250 miles on the dirt along the Pacific)
    -You hit pavement again south of Santa Rosalillita.
    -Camp by the river in San Ignacio then head south via dirt to San Juanico
    -From there stick to the pavement till your south of Ciudad Constitution. After that, you can link dirt roads along the Pacific till you hit Todos Santos.
    -Then its pavement through Cabo, around to the east cape. Take the dirt road up to Cabo Pulmo.
    -I would then stick to the east as much as you can making your way north.
    I don't know as many of the roads along the east side. Since I'm a surfer I tend to keep to the Pacific, so I'll let someone else chime in with those recommendations.
    Hope you have a good, safe trip

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  7 років тому

      Thank you so much for this awesome recommendation! I really appreciate it, and will map this route. I have ONLY traveled the Eastern side, staying at Cabo Pulmo as well. I may go down the east side, then up the Pacific side, following your route.

    • @TheTravelingTogetherJournal
      @TheTravelingTogetherJournal 7 років тому

      Cool. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. When are you going on the trip? We are still making our way north through Central America at the moment, but if we get far enough north for the timing to work out, we will probably take the ferry back over to Baja for the Baja 1000 and hang out down there for a while. Maybe we will cross pathes.
