Looking for this comment! Thanks I just bought a 19 classic as well and I’m cool with the non assist but my kids like to open the tail gate and I’m afraid one day it’ll pop them on the head
Regardless of some of the rude comments ... I thank you for this video. I'm one of those weaklings, I guess, because I have trouble with the heavy tailgate on my Ram, but then, I'm old enough to be anyone who happens to be here, grandmother! I'm nearly 70, love my RAM (it's my 2nd one), ride a motorcycle (no, not a little Harley or little foreign bike.) and I'm a regular at the range (no, not golf!). Anyway, Ryan, thank you for this information, as I had no idea it was available.
Well said...my 2020 Ram 1500 BUILT TO SERVE Edition came with this feature. and its great!!! The truck I had before this one didn’t and the tailgate would actually pop out of its slot sometimes when opening or closing too fast!!!
I bought and installed this a few years ago. It is SUPER easy to do. Kit came with everything needed. Took under an hour and it's an absolute MUST to have unless you plan on being a 20 year old stud your entire life. Tailgate gets HEAVY at 70 (-:. I push it up easily with one hand.
I bought this and installed it prior to watching your video. I can attest that it's an easy install and worth the $20. Now I don't have to worry about my 2 daughter's slamming the tailgate down when they open it. Great video!

I have seen this on internet sites and was considering it, but I think you sold me on it.
I have neuropathy in my arms and hands and sometime when trying to load my bed I do not want the tailgate to lower to quickly. This looks like an ideal help. I have to watch out when lowering the tailgate when towing the trailer.

I have an assist on mine, and it drops slow enough that i caught it before it hit. glad my wimpiness saved my tailgate from a dent and scratch!
Man people are so mean BUT thank you for this! I’ve broken so many nails opening my tailgate and having it slip when it’s wet (I live in MN so always rain or snow haha) Ordered one today 😂
Just an FYI...You can leave the limiter on if you flatten down the rear tab. It will stop the metal end of the strap from rubbing the paint off the side of the tailgate and not interfere with the strap function.
Hi Ryan, good video but i have question, are you just installing the one shock to one side only and doesnt seem like it would work the rubber stopper on the shock side seems in the way of the tailgate from closing,ok let me know, later.
I've had this on my last 3 Rams. It takes the awkwardness out of opening the tailgate. Your video simplified how to install it. The directions it comes with are confusing. Thanks for the vid!
A "Real" car or truck guy would install no matter the weather... This is an Assist not a Hack, oh and Dude... I installed this back in 2003 on my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Laramie (Hemi) and that tailgate was twice as heavy. Would have broken your hand trying to operate it... Just Saying!!
You see, historically, people who owned and used pickup trucks had to extend their bicep muscle if they wanted to prevent the tailgate from slamming down. This device eliminates all that nasty effort.

I got this for my Ram because my nieces and nephews like to climb in the back and after they would open the tail gait they would have to duck and dodge the drop. i knew one day it would hit someone on the head and that tailgate is heavy enough to mess up someone's neck or spine if hitting them right.. so I got it for their safety.
Same here. The tailgate latch on my 2019 RAM is basically an electronic button so it's super easy to press. It's the one thing I really dislike about the truck. I prefer mechanical latches. But anyway, it's so easy to press my four year old can reach up and open the tailgate. It only took one time of me leaping over to grab the tailgate before it smacked him in the head to decide to add dampeners. Luckily on the 2019, I can buy the OEM dampener that installs completely hidden behind the tail light.
Based on experience, you might want to check the fittings every few months. Despite using the loc-tite when I installed mine about 18 months ago, the ball-stud backed out over time without me noticing it and one day I went to open my tailgate and the thing dropped when the stud pulled out. Nothing permanently damaged but I check the threads every month or so now just to be safe.

I believe, depending on the year of the truck, there is a lowering dampener built in just below the rear tail light. Do certain gen rams have trouble with “dropping the tailgate”? I just got an 04’ and I use two hands to flip the latch and then lower it back down to flat, in a controlled manner....
Love all the people talking shit over what a stranger decides to put on their truck. It makes the tailgate much easier to use for children, older people, women, injured or handicapped people, etc. And it’s a nice feature to show off if you ever decide to sell the truck down the road. There really is no downside to adding it.

Devo solt The porduct is designed for people who have to do other things while trying to open the truck bed. Instead of dropping the gate every time. Which will break it faster. So enjoy your tailgate white you still can.
I will be installing this on my ram. Every person that has ever opened my tail gate just drops it... like every person on earth forgot how to open a tail gate.
I put super glue on the bottom side of the collar that meets the truck end gate hole, and let it set, that kept it from spinning. I put 1 drop, of 3 in 1 oil, on the balls of the bering to make it roll with the least amount of friction. I removed the special rotation control washer thing from behind the cable on the end gate side, and installed the same size stainless steel washer, so the cable end, would not scratch my paint where it mounts without the washer thing. Mine works great and I love it. If you guys like this go to Lowes and buy auto drop toilet seats for your home toilets. You just start them and leave them go and they go slowly down themselves. It's the same feeling as this truck gate tool. No more slamming.

I own and operate a construction business and put on on both of my work trucks so the tailgate doesn’t fall down so hard. It’s been 5 years for the 03 Ram and still working great. The ‘12 Ram got his right away since I knew the value from the previous truck. My next truck will have one for sure.

I bought that like 3 months ago..but in canada is about 45$, good quality, 100% useful and 3 yrs warranty..i suggest that ! Nice video!!
Hmmm, I bought a used '17 Ram, 4x4, same green by the way, 2700 or so miles on it, last February 2019. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the tailgate slowly lowers just like in the video. I thought it was standard equipment, but I guess not. Thanks to the former owner for installing this handy gadget. (I'm 67, so I don't need a heavy tailgate.)
If I had to wait that long for my tailgate to open I would go insane lol
says the guy that doesn’t own a truck 😂
@@timothydaly4136 not sure how you came to that conclusion... I'm on my 13th truck since my early days. You name it iv probably owned it. The soft close tailgates are nice but when your loading /unloading and in a hurry they get annoying lol
@@lifebythehorns this mod has no effect on the closing speed. And, if the 1.5 seconds' difference in opening speed affects your life at all, you've fucked up somewhere.
I finally got around to getting/installing this product. There are a lot of other companies doing this, I just stayed with this model. All locktite comes pre-assembled to date. Overall, one of the easiest upgrades you can do.
that's perfect for when your purse in one hand and you need to open the tailgate with the other hand.
And not want to spill your Starbucks Frappuccino...
😂😂😂
you can't open your tailgate with one hand? that's more interesting to me than if he had purse..
Actually laughed at this one.
Leo Tech they are called man satchels! Please be a little more politically correct next time! Lol
Do certain gen rams have trouble with “dropping the tailgate”? I just got an 04’ and I use two hands to flip the latch and then lower it back down to flat, in a controlled manner....
"I'm usually torquing bolts 220, stuff like that..." - Riiiiiiiiiight.
The fact that that sentence intimidated you to the point that you needed to comment speaks volumes.
Did this with my pickup about a year ago. When my two sons saw this, they both installed them on their pickups. Good video.
Just installed mine today and it works great, thanks for the video Ryan!
You’re welcome!
Nice video and truck! What camera are you using by the way? Picture looks clean AF! 👍
Canon 80D!!
Love all the people talking shit over what a stranger decides to put on their truck. It makes the tailgate much easier to use for children, older people, women, injured or handicapped people, etc. And it’s a nice feature to show off if you ever decide to sell the truck down the road. There really is no downside to adding it.
I know! I find it hilarious 😂😂😂😂
You misspelled "for pussys and weak people"
alpha 1997 what the fuck is your deal? Why do you care so much about what is put on other vehicles? I’d put this on my truck so it’s easier for my girl or my kid. Just because you do not like it, does not mean it makes anyone a pussy or a homo.
I like your truck what year is it? I have a 1999 dodge ram sport I bought new, it now has 275,000 miles on still running good
I put this on my 03 Ram about 2yrs ago and I love it 👍🏽
Yes! I shoulda put it on my 06 when I had it not sure why they fall so fast! They shoulda fixed that long ago!
And you're proud how? Please explain.. I mean u really don't have to. Dont want to hurt your feelings..
the following document and let me know
Same it’s a 03 the truck is still looking new just my dad got into a crash and really got one side of the front tires slightly Tilted but it’s still on a normal height am going. To lift it 5 lift kit soon and might add this little feature have some bad mf tail and front lights on the 03 just got a led bar lights for the truck 😎 right now it’s a blue color am changing it to a Carmel color I like the color not dark by in between looks pretty sweet with the color😫 and if anyone knows about bass lmk down the comments what brand are best and when I turn the volume I want my shirt flying from the bass🙏🏽👌 and soon or later I we’ll install a train horn 🙏🏽🤟🏽 few months and I’ll get my license🤟🏽
Yep,the tailgate on my 03 Ram is three times heavier than my 2014 Chevy. Had this thing for over a year in my toolbox. Putting it on today.
I like the bed liner you have. What is it?
Did you pick out that color? On purpose!
Yes!
What’s the power outlet plug in your bed. Is that factory or a mod
Pavement princess addtions.
Devo solt The porduct is designed for people who have to do other things while trying to open the truck bed. Instead of dropping the gate every time. Which will break it faster. So enjoy your tailgate white you still can.
@@m3rkinfiniteofwgkta we get it you like attention miss copyandpast.
Or for the work truck your 75 year old father drives. Be less of an ass, you'll make more friends.
Lol CEO of not knowing what a pavement princess is
said the guy who's too stupid to spell "additions".
Loved this i also want one with a signal telling me that the tailgate open on the road any suggestions.
I will be installing this on my ram. Every person that has ever opened my tail gate just drops it... like every person on earth forgot how to open a tail gate.
That was my first thought, like when did people start just letting it drop on it’s own.
I'm amazed. OMG. It still gets snow in the bed though. 8" in.lbs and 220 something is almost alike, Right?
Rumor has it this guy still waiting for the weather to clear up to shoot the sequel. " Hacking the blinker fluid"
I've installed it on 3 different trucks. Works fantastic.
My 2019 classic came with it, and lights in the box, love it
Did you put one on each side? Or just the one on the left?
Why don't you paint your truck pink while your at it? LOL
big ron what’s more feminine then a ram. Pink wouldn’t help it any more
Gary Faria An Eclipse...you asked
Floyd Zepplin lol that a....yup that’s
...that’s right.
Gary Faria a Ford
hahahahah
Personally I'm not a fan of the slow drop when I want my tail gate down I want it down now not wait
That just means you are not a homosexual like the guy who made the video
I dont like slamming anything on a vehicle, that's how shit gets broken.
@@dundonrl shit brakes no matter what lol
I guess you could drink a beer while you wait for it to drop.
That's about the only positive I see here.
Brakes or breaks?
Does it actually assist in raising the tailgate to close it or just keep it from slamming down when you open it?
How many times do we're need to hear the weather report?
6 maybe 7
I got this EZsstg a couple of years ago for my 2004 Ram, Still works great, I Love to freak out people at the market parking lot, I just open the tailgate and let it go and then it goes down smoothly
Great Video, I wish I could have cn your video back then.
It's for work i lift my tailgate 15 to 20 times a day how long will that last i would have debris all in that thing good for grocery getter JS
Ed Jacobs real shtt
I put one on my 2013 Silverado when I bought it I constantly use my tailgate all day 20 times a day at least since I bought the truck and has not failed me once
I own and operate a construction business and put on on both of my work trucks so the tailgate doesn’t fall down so hard. It’s been 5 years for the 03 Ram and still working great. The ‘12 Ram got his right away since I knew the value from the previous truck. My next truck will have one for sure.
wilbready exactly.. it's so you dont break the tailgate from it slamming down.
you'll still have to lift with this, it's only helps on the way down...
Does it still work? Whats up with these green vehicles I see them where I live. Were they part of a large fleet that went out of biz?
Now you need the remote key fob release.
That's a cool little mod. Handy for kids seniors or if you're hands are somewhat full with boxes, groceries, or a kid. I like it
Dam you got some haters on here, I like the mods you do, thanks for the tip, I like this ideal and just ordered one. Keep doing what your doing man
I don't know why everybody's complaining so much? I'm 63 years old, and I've had surgery on both my wrists. I installed this a year ago, and I'm happy with it. It helps a lot. 2014 Ram 2500👍🏻🇺🇲
I didn’t ask for the weather report!
No one did
And then he shot the video in the garage so what did the "weather" have to do with it anyway ?? I also noticed how "pretty" his bed liner was.... does not use the truck as a truck.
Richard Fowler or he simply just takes care of his truck. Just because his truck doesn’t look like tow fuckin mater doesn’t mean “he doesn’t use his truck as a truck”
@@richardfowler3254 If you have ever watched any of his other videos he NEVER has. It's a pavement princess, concrete cowboy, certified city boy truck. But hey to each their own....just dont let me get a hold of it cuz I wont hesitate to haul some hay to my cows up thru the mud&manure covered field then back down across the creek to my food plot check on it then drive home and....nothing. It stays dirty til in the morning when I go deer hunting and bloody up the bed with the carcass of a large whitetail buck. And OMG....prolly won't wash the bed out til it rains....but hey, that's just me.
your a dick
My 2019 tailgate has a spring built within it that drops the tailgate nicely by factory... but I can see if yours didn't to fix it!
the only girly men are the ones complaining and whining about someone else’s truck.

Yup. These people are the gay ones. Nothing manly about slamming your tailgate everytime. This doesnt make you a pussy. Do these tough guys want their doors to slam or their fenders too or open smoothly?
I'd say did I buy my truck so you could tell me what I should and shouldn't do with it? Lol no bought it for me shouldn't need your approval of what to do on my own truck
@@steve5912 go buya prius
Wear did u get that hoodie? I have been looking for one but can only ever find the power stroke and duramax ones
But I like dropping tailgates, it gets me hard and allows me to compensate to feel manlier! I also enjoy having extra danger hazards because I heard girls find danger to be masculine and I need everyone to know I am the ALPHA.
Even though the shock installed only prevents dropping and still requires the same amount of strength to lift it back up, I like hearing the sound of it slamming against my bumper just like I drop my weights at the gym to assert my dominance.
Alan Lee I think most girls would consider you an over compensating jerk
Thanks. Great video. Just remember cable bushing is 3 1/2" down from the loop.
Want an even better tailgate hack? Install an actuator that will open and close the tailgate automatically with the push of a button.
What outlet is that in the side wall at the back of your truck bed? Is that OEM or did you add it?
For the fifth wheel wiring
If you haven't already, I recommend getting one of those torsion bar gate assists also. I've had them on my '08 Ram Megacab since about a week after I picked it up and my wife and son have appreciated it immensely.
Did this to my RAM, can confirm it's totally worth it.
Next Video: $2 purse hook on door HACK Everybody NEEDS to know!!!

It was a joke. Dude.
Chris Stokes ok dude. Be disrespectful all you want man
M3RKINFINITE OFWGKTA
I apologize, dude. If you have a hand free to open the latch, you just let it down easy. Trucks are tough, tailgates not going to break.
Chris Stokes don't worry man I feel you. I mean there are times when it might be necessary
Can this be mounted on the passenger side? I have a ladder mounted on the driver side. Oh yea I broke my back a couple years ago so I don't need a tampon or a purse holder.
That was a great video I clicked on it by random because it was a Ram ram truck but then I learned I needed that for my truck I place my order right after the video thanks can't wait to install it on my Ram
I finally got mine and installed it 2 days ago and it works exactly how it's supposed to work
I did the same after viewing video. Do u think one assist is enough? Or do u recommend adding one to each side? Thanks.
I only used one and it is good enough
How is up? I have a tailgate mounted bed ladder, so it's a heavy lift. Does it help with that?
This is the first thing I did to my Ram the week it was new in 15"
did the same install on my 2015 1500 a year or so ago........absolutely the best thing, period. i open/close my tailgate daily..works great.
Amazing comment section!
XD
Not a bad video either, good videography, keep it up.
But, I purse-onally won't be installing this.
😂😂😂🔥
Just wandering, will this work on a 1997 Tahoe. I am disabled and use a walker. It would make it easier to open the tail gate. I do not have the door version. It is basically a tail gate with a camper shell on it.
I remember the days when a truck was simple No panaramic glass roof No leather No navigation Just a bench seat window cranks a steel body and squeaky hinges on the tailgate I miss the simple things
then go buy one of those trucks and quit your bitching, they are still out there
cool story, grampa.

Thanks for the video, I need this in my life, just bought one for my 2012 Ram. Looking forward to installing it when it shows up.
Lol why does this guy have a truck 😂
Matt Card because he wanted one, so he got one?
The more important question is why does he have a Cummins?
His boyfriend didn't like his Subaru anymore
Better question: Why do these kids want to buy trucks and then spend a shitpot of money to make them not-a-truck?

Just installed this in my 19 classic and it doesn’t come down as slow as yours does but definitely not as fast as before and I noticed mine didn’t come with the liquid thread locker it looked like the screws already had it. And where that little ball joint is at mine came with a plate
Wow how much weaker and lazy are people going to get my 1976 pickup had all the options anyone would ever need in a truck a stereo, manual locks manual windows manual transmission no powersteering best truck in the world 380k miles and nothing ever went out or broke
Newsflash. It's not 1976 anymore. Open a '76 tailgate and then a '18 tailgate. They don't weigh the same
Daniel Marshall, I'm pretty sure that's the point. Man up. In 1976 men were men. Now a man's man is an anomaly. All these pussies wear beards as a last ditch effort to hang on to whatever shred of manliness might be left in their bodies. But a beard doesn't make a man. @HoneyOnWales
DeWayne Miguel , but did you have to manually use the tailgate? Oh, you're so strong!
Daniel Marshall no the 2018 weights much less smartass.
