    This video covers the install for a non-amplified system, but the basic install will be the same on the BOSE equipped trucks as well.

    this made running my power cable much easier. I was really glad you did all of the research for me. it really helped a lot. well done sir. hats off to you. I also intend to use the same remote turn on pin as described. my install will involve 2 amps, a cap, and a signal processor all installed under the center console. I am taking some pictures because, why not pay it forward! thanks again.

    2018 Sierra Install - Five years later and your video is still helping folks...(like me) add some easy bass to our trucks. Thanks you for posting. The turn-on lead recommendation especially is solid gold. I used the "thru the fender, round grommet in the door jamb technique" for getting power into the cab, and for my 2018 Sierra "work truck" the speaker wire colors were different (found diagram here: www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/195580-speaker-wire-colors/ ), but your video was still super helpful in showing me just how easy it is to get behind the factory radio. Thanks again for taking the time to share this info.

    To anyone else who has this vehicle, just know that I was able to easily get my 8awg power wire through the firewall without removing the grommet on the inside or removing the 3 10mm nuts from the power distribution box. I did remove the cover from the power distribution box though. Just cut make a little insicision in the little nipple on the grommet in the engine compartment. Making note of the angle of the nipple, stick something stiff like a rg-6 coax cable through the nipple as straight as possible and at the same angle of the nipple. Go the inside and you should feel where the coax cable came through. Pull about a foot through. Go to the outside and tape the coax wire to the power cable. Just pull it through and you should be good to go.

    You do not need to unbolt the junction box on the interior ... Just feed a wire coat hanger or rod thru the fire wall thru that rubber grommet and tape ur power wire to the rod you feed thru the grommet and pull wire thru ... I did still have to puull the black plastic cover off to make a little room .. Great video

    I know this is late since you posted this how to but I want to compliment this set of videos. I followed it yesterday. I didn’t have my sub box yet but I will edit this once I am all hooked up. Thanks for the guidance and complete information. Still questioning if the remote power will cause problems like some posters claimed might change mine up by utilizing an add a fuse.

    Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I almost gave up when trying to pass the power wire through the grommet because it had that rubber cap inside and it didn’t look like I would be able to pull it out like you did. I thought mine may be different than the video because my truck is 2018 Sierra so kept looking at you in the video and said maybe it is the same. It was the same I just pulled it with a small pull hook from one side and then I was able to pull it with my hand. Also at first I wanted to do it without unbolting the fuse box but there’s no way without doing that.

    I just thought I would add a couple things here. I have a '16 Crew Cab and I didn't need to remove that distribution block to pull the power wire through the big grommet and run it under the box. Also, you will need the ABSOLUTE minimum of 17 ft of cable to reach the driver side rear seat (on the floor). If you're mounting your amp on the back wall or on the passenger side you should account for that with extra length from there.

  • @tomdragonetti7225
    @tomdragonetti7225 7 років тому

    Great video, but one thing that wasn't mentioned was having to cut a slit in the grommet under the dash. The slit is shown in the video, but not mentioned. I had to pull the 4 harnesses in the power block to get enough room for my arm to make a cut. I didn't need to pull out the insulation donut after I made the cut, I shoved in a socket extender in from the cab side till it hit the grommet on the outside, then pushed my 4 gauge cable in from the engine side through that nipple, twisting it till it found the gap the ratchet extension made to allow it to make its way into the cab. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

    The person who installed my stereo and amplifier ran the power wire to the fuse box. Should I run that to the battery itself? He did put a inline fuse on the line but the other day when I was looking at my battery I noticed there was no power wire for the amplifier. I am planning on adding a second battery.

    Did you use a digital amp? Cause I was told my amp isn't digital would heat up and could catch on fire if it didn't get airflow. And I was always told that with the box I have for under the rear seat with the subs facing down it would hit the ground when it was working. How much clearance do you have with the subs?

    • @TheAmpLab
      @TheAmpLab  9 років тому

      Well for starters there is no such thing as a digital amplifier. All amplifiers are analog. The signal going in is analog, and the signal coming out is analog. Even if they converted the signal to digital inside for some sort of processing, by the time it reaches the actual drive circuit to be amplified (the part that creates heat), it would have to be analog again anyways.
      Digital just means "small". Not actually digital.
      So don't worry about that. As far as during down, basically if you have a subwoofer small enough to fit in the enclosure it probably won't have enough excursion to actually hit the floor.
