I had not crocheted a granny square in years. I always loved the folkyness of them. I needed a refresher course and just fell in love with your videos. Please don't stop. You are just wonderful.
Shank you so much for this fantastic tutorial. I am putting together a Montreal Canadiens afghan for the first time. Colour sensitive. I will take a picture when completed. You make it seem simple. Thank you Jayda.
OMG! I am making a retro daisy granny square cardigan and I have been searching for a well explained and easy to do tutorial on joining the squares and yours is by far the easiest one to follow and beautiful! Thank you so much you just made my day!
I’ve never joined squares before, but was given some granny squares to sew together for my sister in law. I’ve always been a little intimidated on how to join them before but your tutorials make it look so much easier! Thank you for showing the different variations and explaining how to join the sides too!! Now I’m super excited to finish them up!!😊🧶
You combine the most beautiful colors together and that one with the red center that you showed the last grouping of those are absolutely beautiful. Anyway, thanks for what you do. You’ve been a big help to me.
Your tutorials are the best I've seen. My mother and my grandmother passed away before they could help me with my crochet. They showed me how to chain then life happened . Thank you for your step by step calming guidence. My project is rough and has flaws but I'm proud of it just the same.
I just found you....thank goodness! I bought a half made granny square lap blanket at a consignment shop, that needed finishing. Your tutorials have helped me immensely, as I have never made a granny square before. You make everything so easy to understand!! Thank you!!
This is by far my favorite crochet site and you are the best teacher ever! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?! I've been crocheting for many years but I learn something new every time I watch one of your youtube tutorials! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

Hi Stella! Welcome to the Crafty Family😊 I started knitting too, back when I was 11 or so and I had the same problem with books... it finally took a wonderful woman named Teresa to show me the missing bits before it clicked for me. I've been eagerly sharing this artform with everyone I could ever since! Thank you so much for coming along with us, we have all sorts of goodies in store!!!
I have looked all over You Tube to find a tutorial to make Granny squares, and stumbled upon your guide...you made it soo easy to follow that now I am watching this tutorial to learn how to join the squares! Hi Jamie! I'm so pleased to hear that😊 As a matter of coincidence, I'm working on two hexagonal afghans myself! Maybe I'll do an update video on them, I was going to join one by sewing and one with single crochet. It might be helpful to see the different shapes in action... plus they're just so darn pretty!!
This is a great tutorial. I've made many granny square afghans and never have been happy with the way they looked on the back. Now I know how to make it better. Thank you .
I have always wanted to do Afghan squares and with your help I was able to finally conquer it. I tried to teach myself through pattern books but could not understand their directions. Thank you for your first video on afghan squares and this one on how to sew them together. Your teaching is EXCELLENT! And you are SO lovely!!! I enjoyed the delightful way you began this video... joyful and fun Many thanks, Jacinta.

Lisa Few Thank you Lisa :) Crocheting is just SO much fun (once you get the hang of it!) and a real stress reliever (again, once you get the hang of it LOL) and the possibilities are endless!!
I love your granny square tutorial. I feel so connected to my own real granny who tried to teach me when I was little, but I could not do it. Roll forward about fifty years, and you have taught me! Madeline
Thank you so much for these patiently explained tutorials, Jayda! I just finished my very first granny squares and I'm hooked :) Can't wait to sew these babies together and then learn how to make pretty border!
A great tutorial since I've never joined granny squares together. My sister gave me so many to put together for a blanket ...it will be a challenge ...thank you so much

I wanna tell a funny thing. I had this video muted because someone else was watching something on youtube on their PC. But I kept watching, and in the end I just had to turn up the volume to listen abit. My first feeling was: " I wish I could just sit down beside this lady...and just listen...and learn" Are you a teacher dear? I would guess you are the kind of person ppl just likes to sit and just be around you. Im going to sub and learn more
Very clear explanation .what I liked was each time you should the rows step by step ,you took us back to the original.this made it very interesting and for sure one can go smoothly without any difficulty.Hatsvoff to u for your incredible ,commendable work.well done.wonderful blankets made by u.
I love your videos Jayda. I learnt to crochet granny squares with your tutorial and now I know how to join them. I'd be interested in a tutorial about putting an edge around the afghan. Thank you. Christine.
The same for me. I love your clear instruction. Your video is how I learned the basic granny square. Now I've made 2 grand granny lap blankets and a 25 block afghan I'm now learning to stitch together. I would love to learn how to do borders too. THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE, JAYDA!
Thank you so much for the link on joining the granny squares. You explain everything so simple. You are Awesome ! I love the whip stitch method it is so simple and still nice to look at. I love the one crochet stitch even better. It just adds some distinctive classy looking seams. Love it!! I would love to see some border tutorial videos. Please keep them coming :)
I just started learning how to crochet. I have been watching a lot of videos was having trouble. I came upon your videos and learned so much!! You really make it easy to follow and learn. Thank you so much!!!
You are an excellent teacher, always considering carefully what the student is seeing. Your videos are very thorough and interesting. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them, and for thinking them through so thoroughly. They are really helpful and informative. I hope you'll do more crochet videos. I would love to see a video demonstrating various fancy edge treatments for crocheted blankets, if you feel inclined and can spare the time.
Hello Iris! Thank you for the encouraging words :) My husband and I have a lovely time making these videos and we hope to do many more! Edges and decorative trims are definitely on the list. Thank you for watching and please stay tuned!
Thank you Debs! She's a mini version of our Mouse tutorial! I sewed her onto a bobby pin :) You can find that tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/TW3KF-2_cko/v-deo.html
Thank you Jayda. Watched two of your tutorials already and I felt that I've learned so much. Used to crochet a lot when I was younger and living up north, but got away from it because I got into quilting. Now, I'm retired and I've realized that you can make lots of different shapes with granny squares and I feel inspired to make an afgan. You make crocheting seem easy. God Bless!
Hi Dawn, I love quilting too! There's quite a bit of cross over when you get into making blankets, I've found...and of course both hobbies are great for using up scraps! Thank you for watching :)
I love this tutorial. It was very informative and fun to watch. I learned so much. Thank-you and I have subscribed to your channel!! You make it fun !!
Hi, Jayda just want to say thank for sharing all of your craft video's especially the crochet video's they have been so helpful, currently i am working on a granny square baby blanket using the sewing method to connect my squares and they are coming out very nicely . thanks so much, Pamela
I loved the little dolls, too! Thanks for this easy to understand tutorial... I have over a hundred Grannies to join... I thunk I will sew the.. I like the nice flat look.. Thanks💜
Jada, Doug here-Mr. Lefty. I've created a "Grampa squares" aphgan and am needing to know how to connect the squares together. Photos will be coming your way asap! Thanks for the "Sally Simpleton" type of stitch. Doug
Hi Douglas! That's wonderful! We hope you like one of these 3 methods for joining (I have to say my favourite is likely the whip stitch sewing method, but they're all pretty neat!).
Here I am again to thank you for this amazing video! You taught me how to crochet granny squares and now I'm almost done with my first blanket :) couldn't be happier. Thank you!
oh my doll!! I am a newbie on crochet and granny square and of course on your video as well and what a sweet welcome!! those two little doll made me smile!! I am "hooked" to granny square of course. ;)
Thank you for making clarifications that other crochet-ers on youtube do not clarify. I have had to learn some things the hard way. Ha ha thank you! Beautiful colors in the squares! :)
Audra Monzon Thank you Audra :) I remember learning to crochet, I largely taught myself from books and there was a boat load of trial and error! It can be frustrating so I try really hard to approach each tutorial with that in mind...I'm so glad that you have found them helpful
:14-:53 My children loves seeing that scene and your reaction! I play along and say," oooohhhh, those babies are gonna get in trouble...." and my son just CRACKS UP! Also, do you have a tutorial on the unicorn, that is on your desk? my daughter LOVES IT and insists on me making it for her. thank you for keeping me going.
Hi Alyondy! We are just delighted to know your children are enjoying our little animated adventures! And YES, you can tell your son those Chibis got into a LOT of trouble for making a mess! I put them on yarn-winding duty! And YES! We have a three part series on making our large Magical Baby Unicorn, you can find it on our channel homepage as it's own playlist (just click on my username to get to our channel homepage).
I made my first ever granny square with your tutorial because yours is the best! The other ones just didn't make sense and I've watched LOTS of other videos. So, to learn how to join them.....of course this is the first place I looked. Thank you for your awesome tutorials!
Jayda, You were so helpful, I also mentioned you on Zippy Loom's garter stitch scarf video. Can you do an EARRING tutorial -- an EASY one, NOT like the videos already on YT. Thanks.
I used the invisible sewing method and it worked great! Mine were big and lacy because I used a 8m hook and 2 stands of baby yarn. It's so cute! My mom's friend will love it. Thank you for making videos. They are easy to follow and fun to boot!
I am making a camouflage blanket for my brother using granny squares the only thing is that I am confused as how big to make my squares. I want to do 20 squares in all to make a blanket. Please help!
hi Kai 😊 How big do you want the blanket to be and what size hook are you using? if you're using a big hook (say 6mm, or 7mm) then make your squares 6 or 7 rows and they'll be nice and BIG!! 20 of those babies will cover a bed 😀
Nope, you can keep using that hook, just make your squares 8 rows each. You can always add more squares, or rows to your existing squares 😊 My big blue afghan used a 5.5 hook, they were only 6 rows big but I used about 30 squares...and its pretty large! And remember, you probably will want to add a border too and that will also increase the size😄
Thank you. After watching your granny square tutorial, I have become a bit...obsessed with granny squares. (They just go so fast! I've been knitting for almost ten years and I never realized how much faster crochet could be!) I think I've got eight granny squares now, and more are in the works. Now I know how to put them all together into a new blanket. 😊
Hi . I am a begginer at this and want to make something more than dish clothes. Can u please help me by telling me a great foundation number to start off with and the measurement. I would also love to make one for adults also. I now have the single crochet down now just needing patterns or ideas. Thanks u are fery very helpful.
patricia hanks Hi Patricia, what are you planning on making? If you're thinking of blankets and you're a beginner, I recommend our Granny Square tutorial, not only will it teach you how to do the Double Crochet stitch, but you can make lots of squares and make a blanket any size you want, or just keep going and make one gigantic Granny! The link for that tutorial is in the comment box above :)
Thank you. I have tried the granny square and my grandmother makes them but I don't like the big holes in them. Is there anyway to make the holes smaller? Crazy right??
Thank you. I have tried the granny square and my grandmother makes them but I don't like the big holes in them. Is there anyway to make the holes smaller? Crazy right??
Or a stitch that has holes smaller. I want to make baby blankets out of cotton peach n cream yarn and a adult size as well. BTW u are the first one that I have grasped on to with Instructions thanks
Half Double Crochet is a little bigger than single crochet and doesn't have big gaps in between stitches, so it's a good blanket making stitch. It also makes up a little faster. You can also ALWAYS make a simple, single crochet blanket and then add little embellishments afterwards like cute little crocheted appliques :) If you're planning on going back and forth in single crochet (or half double) I recommend chaining a foundation row to a length that, when placed on the ground in front of you, is the width you want your blanket to be. Then, you can just pretend you're making a giant dishcloth! (giggle!)
Hi Peaches! I'm very glad you found the tutorial useful, but please don't think you've been doing them wrong before! There are MANY ways to make a granny square, this is just my personal favourite, and the easiest version I have found to learn on :)
Jayda, you are awesome!! Your tutorials are the best I've ever seen on UA-cam. I learned to crochet watching your videos. You are a great teacher! Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. You have a naturally warm and bubbly personality that is very appealing. I think you should have your own network television show.
Bead Obsessed Thank you Bead Obsessed!! (I love beads too!) I'm so pleased that you found my channel and have caught the crochet bug :) I think being on TV would be a riot LOL
Hi Jada...I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. You take you time and explain everything. That is so helpful and you make it so fun and simple. I have just started to crochet and was struggling with granny squares. I watched your video a multitude of times (large learning curve here!) and the lightbulb finally went on! Thanks so much!
I had not crocheted a granny square in years. I always loved the folkyness of them. I needed a refresher course and just fell in love with your videos. Please don't stop. You are just wonderful.

Is there a tutorials to make the cute little dolls. Lovethem

Hi! That's wonderful! Thank you for watching :)
Omg the beginning 👏🏻
HI Mariette! Thank you so much for watching 😊

Thank you for watching Ada! 😊
THANK G*d I found this video.
Thank you!
Thank you for watching :)
Jayda,
You were so helpful, I also mentioned you on Zippy Loom's garter stitch scarf video.
Can you do an EARRING tutorial -- an EASY one, NOT like the videos already on YT.
Thanks.
I have always used sc method I like the ridge but nice to know other options. Thanks. Love your tutorials.
I used the invisible sewing method and it worked great! Mine were big and lacy because I used a 8m hook and 2 stands of baby yarn. It's so cute! My mom's friend will love it. Thank you for making videos. They are easy to follow and fun to boot!
+Alyssa Grasso Hi Alyssa! Thank you so much for watching :)
I’m interested in a tutorial on a border for my granny square blanket.
Hi Elaine, Thank you for watching! Check out the description box for the link to our basic borders tutorial :)
I like the way you teach the square. Love the joining styles.
Thank you so much!
I'm only using a 5.5 lol. He's 5'7 so I need enough to cover him. Should I switch my hook?
Nope, you can keep using that hook, just make your squares 8 rows each. You can always add more squares, or rows to your existing squares 😊 My big blue afghan used a 5.5 hook, they were only 6 rows big but I used about 30 squares...and its pretty large! And remember, you probably will want to add a border too and that will also increase the size😄
Thanks so much!😊😀
Hi Anne! I love knitting too. I learned to knit first before crochet :) When I figured out how quickly I could make something I was hooked!
(giggle!)
yes please.....join as you go!!!! please.....wonderful video by the way!
Hi JoAnne, we have a mini "join as you go" tutorial over here :) ua-cam.com/video/r1krtsPQtR0/v-deo.html
Hi Jayda, taking a moment to thank you for the granny square instructions. All this time I have been doing them the wrong way. Thank you very much.
My grandmother crocheted an afghan made out of glowing colors surrounded by black granny squares. Very pretty.
Thank you for demonstrating these easy directions.
+Dakota Getz Thank you for watching! :)
