    My mom tried to teach me how to crochet when I was a little girl. I mastered the single stitch, but never understood how to make a granny square. She passed away 10 years ago and I thought the tradition of baby blankets and afghans went with her. I stumbled on your video and you now have me cranking out granny squares and I can't stop! My mom would be so proud. Thank you so much. I look forward to continuing to learn other stitches from you. My mom's hobby feels like my own. 💕

      Same thing with me! Are used to watch my grandma whip out Afghan after afghan and I always wanted to learn but never took the time to ask anyone. She died about five years ago and I wanted to learn how to crochet so that I could feel more connected to her and I learned everything from this channel! Jayda is the best teacher!

    I saved this video years ago. Out of the thousands of Granny Square tutorials on social media, this is the only one I'll ever return too. Such a simple pattern, a brilliant teacher and filmed clearly. Thank you!😊

    Hi Jayda. I'm a total beginner at crochet. I've been able to teach myself other crafts but crochet always got me in a twist. After watching your video I made my first granny square which I'm so proud of I may just frame it!! Thank you you're a terrific teacher. You don't go too fast. I was able to follow you. Also love the sense of humour. Don't lose that.

    Hi, I normally don’t comment on videos but I wanted to thank you so much. My grandmother was always very skilled at crochet and knitting and while she taught me to knit I never could get a hang of crochet. She passed away last week and is as determined to learn. Thanks to you I just made my first granny square! Thank you again. I know my grandma would be so proud.

    I just started trying to crochet tonight and I looked about about 5 tutorials before getting to yours and I have to say yours is the only one I found actually helpful. Every one else goes so fast and I thank you so much for being overly repetitive because IT IS NEEDED!!!! I have spent hours crocheting and pausing, crochet and pause and Ive finally got the hang of it. Added this page to my favourites and liking it for easy return. You are a great teacher and I feel so proud of myself for being able to make a square and hopefully continue it on to make my first blanket. Much much MUCH appreciation, it wouldn't have been possible without this video.

    I am so happy I found this video after trying four others. I just couldn't figure out which holes to go through and thought I was doing something wrong because my initial crochet looked circular. You even explained this. The slow and steady pace and the fact that the entire video covered the whole granny square really helped for someone who is self-learning from youtube videos like myself. Kudos to what sounded like your very patient husband who was awesome enough to record the whole process for you and did a fantastic job zooming the camera in when he needed to.

    Just had to comment and say that you are by far one of the best teachers of crochet I've ever seen on UA-cam 🥰💕 As a beginner, I really appreciate you going slow enough to give those of us who are learning a chance to follow along without feeling rushed. I've watched COUNTLESS videos and almost always end up pausing or adjusting the playback speed a million times, but not with yours 🙃 Thanks so much! Subscribed!

    Hi Jayda;
    I know that you have a lot of followers ie: friends but I want you to know that with ALL the video's that are on line to pick from, I didn't nor could I find comfort from anyone to teach me. Not to drag this out and bore you to sleep but my husband of 28 years died suddenly from a brain aneurysm on October 1, 2012. from that day forth I was unable to pick up a hook for the life of me, I had crocheted daily and like many you know made weddings gifts, baby shower gifts etc etc but that came to a grinding halt. Until I stumbled on your video. THANK YOU for allowing me to return to what I loved and cherished. The very first night I went to bed and I kept saying over & over I could hear you say " when you go to bed you will be saying " Chain Chain Chain..." And so it began. Know your kindness, gentle way of explaining and not treating many like second hand people. AGAIN gentle hugs to you and thanks for returning a craft which brought smiles to many especially myself since the death of my spouse.
    Your Hooker Friend for life; Colleen J. Schanz

      @JaydaInStitches  9 років тому +2

      Colleen Schanz Thank you so much for your kind words, Colleen :) I'm very sorry to hear about your husband's passing, such an awful shock, it's no wonder your interest in crafts went quiet for awhile. I have heard so many beautiful stories from people about how crafting has helped them to find themselves again, to bring them some peace and contentment, and it comes from a sweet place. I'm so happy to think that crochet has brought the smile back to your face, and I'm delighted to think that I could be part of that in some small way :) Welcome back to the beautiful craft and welcome to the family!

    I am rewatching this as a refresher after making all of the crazy blanket squares! This video is one of the first I watched 2 years ago when I first started crocheting. Coming back to this video is sorta emotional because it taught me so much and I love crocheting now, I never would have thought I could make the things I've made. Thank you for being such a patient, kind, and positive channel. You have truly made such an impact to so many lives!

    This is the best site to learn granny squares. Every other sites I've been to says to do 3 sets of D.C In each corner. I found it to be very crowded and klutzy. Other sites say to go right to the center hole without doing a chain st. It's a big jump! I like your method best. I am, however, having a horrible time getting the right tension. I've watched a couple of sites recommending to hold the yarn in various position. I've tried them all and haven't been able to get the hang of it. Once in a while my stitch looks great with no gaps. I have no idea what I did! I have spent many, many all day marathons trying to get the right tension. Following your instructions my square came out very decent. I love the way it looks, despite that some of my stitches were kind of loose. I hope I can master the tension soon. I haven't really been able to enjoy working on my squares yet. Anybody have any good ideas for getting the right tension?

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Рік тому

      hi Roberta! It's just practice...and believe it or not, ignoring the tension. If you focus on the stitches, on the pattern, on turning corners and counting shells etc. but ignore what your yarn-feeding hand is doing, it will literally figure out the best way to hold and feed your yarn on it's own! I know that sounds crazy, but with repeated action, our bodies figure out ways to do things more efficiently, and tendons and muscles adjust to new requirements. It's amazing! It just takes a little time and trust that it will work out...it always does 💗

It's very difficult to get a diagnosis, but I (finally) found a doctor who believes me & is having me tested; this time HE asked ME, told me, "I think you have a major parasitic infection." D'YA THINK??!!

    Thank you. You are a patient, clear teacher. I like the way you crochet along with us showing and telling at the same time. Yours was the third and best online tutorial I tried when teaching myself how to crochet. My first granny square took a whole day with me pausing your tutorial continuously but, 2 days later, I can knock out 3 granny squares per session (a good film on TV) and I still find myself talking your instructions through in my head. Exactly what was needed so many, many thanks for taking the time! xxx

    Ever since I watched this video I have been making granny squares every day! I only learned how to crochet about two weeks before this but you make it very easy and fun, so thank you so much! Eventually I'm going to have to learn how to join them together but for now I'm content making them in tons of color patterns :)

      Hi PaperCranes! You are so welcome! If you're going to start collecting yarn, might I also suggest hitting up your local second hand stores because I find people are always donating "unwanted" yarn, hooks and notions (like buttons, thread, sewing kits etc). I've made some wicked finds thrifting yarn (garage sales too, now that I think of it) including beautiful vintage yarns, which are perfect for highlighting in a granny square :) Happy Crafting!!

    I've watched a lot of you tube videos about beginning crochet, and I have to say that yours is the best one I've watched. I appreciate your patience with us as beginners and you go slow enough for me to even keep up. Sometimes I pause the screen until I can catch up, but that is one of the advantages of learning via You Tube. I think you are so thoughtful of your viewers that you explain every little stitch and make it easy to understand. Hopefully, after i practice a bit I will be good at Granny Squares that I will be able to move on from there to bigger and better projects. My grandmother couldn't have taught me with better skill than you do. And she was an expert with yarn and needles. She could even tat and make hair pin lace. Wow. Can you show us how to do a ripple afghan for beginners? Thanks again for your videos.
