- An introduction to chiming watches and the Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto. I provide a brief overview of chiming complications, discuss the complexities of their technical design, show examples of my own chiming watches, and then dig into the specifics of the Sonnerie au Passage, or passing chime complication. I include some past and current examples of this particular complication and then briefly discuss the CW C1 Bel Canto. #watchreview #christopherward #horology #sonneries

Don't know how I missed this channel all these years but a link from the CW forum brought me here, and this excellent presentation earns a sub straight away. I'm in Australia so the blue Bel Canto sold out while I was at work and the green one sold out while I was asleep. Waiting list, maybe a cancellation, we'll see. Like you I wasn't sure what to expect from the teasing but when I saw it I almost fell over. Wow. I have a couple of CWs that are practical, handsome, friendly, good value watches but this is next level and then some.
No worries bud! My channel is smaller because I do long-form videos with detail and actually know what I'm talking about as opposed to selling something, stoking controversy, and creating ridiculous thumbnails and reactions. ;) If you keep your name on the CW list or watch for opportunities, I'd say your chances are good at picking one up. Thanks for watching.
@@WatchComplications A pleasure. I've got some interesting-looking videos to catch up on!
Informative video.....and I hope to have my green Bel Canto next May.
thanks for watching and good luck with the wait! 😅
Thank you!!! You’re brilliant!!!
Possibly, haha! Thanks for watching :)
Such a Great watch 🤵🏻♂️🏁👍🤩
it’s amazing. :)
Can’t wait to get mine!
anticipation!
@@WatchComplications I anticipated for I ordered mine yesterday!..
Patiently waits for the full review
THE goal for this week!
@@WatchComplications you big tease. Surely there is a code freeze now at this time of year so we get lots of content 🤣
I'll get it out this week. have to!
@@WatchComplications I hope we are still talking about the video here 🤣
😅
Great watch, great video, subbed!
Thank you for watching. It's one of the best designs I've seen in a long time, honestly. Can't wait to show more of it!
Thanks for an interesting review and background explanation. I love mechanical watches with a sound complication but hadn't realised the subtle differences. I've just ordered No.300 of these and will get it next March - they've sold well over half already in the 3 hours since launch! I already have the Concept and it's a beautiful made and great looking watch. CW certainly offer good value in their watch-making.
Really glad you got something out of the video. Number 300 is excellent! I'll reveal my number on my focused review on just the watch, after it arrives. And it's now sold out, in less than 8 hours. Wow.
I’m curious, how do you know you got No.300? Were you able to request it?
yeah you can add a note requesting a certain number if available
@@WatchComplications yes, amazing how quickly it sold out effectively by word of mouth on the internet as I saw no emails about it. The talk is there will be another release given its popularity, but perhaps a different colour.
@@lucasdriskell yes, I rang and asked what numbers were left. My favourite number connected to my birth year had gone so I thort I'd take the last in the series. It means waiting till March 2023 as they are producing them in numeric order I was told. That's just before my BD so it can make a nice early present to myself (again)!
Great video, the examples and your detailed analysis really do highlight what CW has achieved here with the Bel Canto. Looking forward to your hand on review.
thanks for the feedback and for watching
Really great overview and I've picked one up!
Congrats! More posts on this in the future and will be interested to hear your own thoughts on those threads.
Thank you for your insight and well-thought-out presentation of this exciting timepiece. I was late to the party for the Azul dial but have successfully pre-ordered the Verde dial. This will significantly elevate my collection and will be such a joy to wear on the wrist. I expect a smile will cross my face with each and every chime. I have subscribed and look forward to future content. Have a wonderful day.
glad you enjoyed the video :) Part 2 will be next week, which is just on the Bel Canto.
Just ordered green one today. so happy I was able to grab one before it sold out. amazing timepiece ~~~~~~
good choice! and lucky, they went fast!
Great video as always, Brian. I was awestruck by the design of the Bel Canto from the first moment I saw it, but you’ve provided some perspective on what a technical tour de force this release by Christopher Ward really is. Can’t wait to see your review.
Thanks for your support JC :) I know you're looking forward to having it on the wrist as much as me.
We live in an amazing time for watch making. Working in Cad and CNC has never been easier and there’s demand for interesting mechanical watches. A golden era
So true!
I learn so much from you Brian. No funny t shirt today though?
I'm truly sorry for the serious shirt. I'll wear something "normal" next time. 😅
great review of a very impressive watch!
Thank you for watching, and it is certainly an impressive watch. Can't wait to get mine and do a focused review on it :)
I love what they've done with this watch. It looks great. I would have loved one, but my bank account is still recovering after buying a Mad 1 this year. Kind of hoping CW will do a second run next year.
yeah it looks great. and I expect they’ll run another color next year, as successful as this launch was, and to get more out of the R&D put into it.
It's almost tantamount to abuse. Two weeks of waiting for the full review. Come on B dawg, show us some love. I only want to watch your review of this watch. The others don't give the detail
Thanks so much for that! I'm trying 😅. I have over a full week of wear now, thus the thoughts, pros, and cons have made themselves evident and I have started working on the content. You can expect it sooner rather than later. I hope to get one other video out before this review, but I will have a few videos in quick succession in the next few weeks if all goes well.
@@WatchComplications great to hear Sir. I have been watching and analysing other channels and it is clearly evident that they don't highlight much if any of the negatives as they want to keep getting sent free watches. I shall wait patiently for the master.
and I do have at least one con for this one. ;)
An excellently put together video. New sub from me!!
thanks for that, and for watching :)
Didn’t take long to sell out!
I told peeps at CW and elsewhere it’d sell out day one. Not sure I expected to be quite that right 😳
The Bell Hora is ugly? That's a hot take. Meistersinger watches are definitely not like every other watch, but their single hand approach has a very clean appeal to it.
They also managed 5ATM of WR compared to only 3 on the Bel Canto, which I think is inexcusably low. Not that it's a watch for swimming, but I don't want to ever worry about it getting wet.
I agree the sapphire case back is an odd choice. The sellita movement is nothing to look at, and like you mentioned it does no good for the sounds. Maybe a solid caseback and make it 40mm? The movement fits in there.
I don’t mind the single hand on the Bell Hora, but the dial has nothing attractive about it. Generally, I feel about the same with respect to 3 and 5atm. For me, if a watch isn’t 10, it’s not going in water. 3 and 5 I avoid water but a few sprinkles won’t hurt.
@@WatchComplications I wouldn't take it swimming either way. But with 3 I might worry about soaking it when washing my hands, not with 5. But that might just be me hehehe. I'm looking to get one of them, but as of yet undecided. The CW wins in terms of case diameter as well.
I really like the NL edition of the Bell Hora, with the dark green dial.
The case is amazing.
@@WatchComplications My main concern with the Bel Canto is how much daily wear I'm gonna get out of it. It's quite flashy I feel like.
I don’t think of the Bel Canto as flashy. On bracelet, I’ve worn it all kinds of places so far. I generally just wear what I want on a given day. :)
they make a beautiful watch but why is it limited and sold out :( so its as attainable as a rolex or ap or patek
it’s limited because the parts are time consuming to produce. and it was attainable I’d say, but sometimes watches sell out.
The bel or the Morgan?
like, if I had to pick one?
@@WatchComplications afraid so?
man that's a hard choice. don't do that to me!
@@WatchComplications I have to know. You can have only one. Which one?
that's like choosing between children.
