Good idea, but he would have to cede a level of creative control which I'm sure would alienate his long time followers. However I've always wondered why there was never a series centered around the watch industry in general.
Watch making is such an outstanding art isn’t it. Just look at the care and detail and passion. One place you can actually ‘See’ and understand the costs of fine watches
. I carve violin bridges. My first bridges took a dozen hours to do. An experienced craftsman could do it in a few hours. But his works be much, much higher quality and produce a final sound product i could never achieve. He has not only skill but efficiency. You're calculating only cheap man-hours and machining without valuing the skill and art involved that you yourself have no chance of accomplishing. Value is not only calculated by man-hours, material and cheap machining. Your view is completely void of appreciation for the art that is watch-making.
@@PaperGrapeVery few people appreciate that level of skill and craftsmanship. Very few people have the gift of being able to do high level hand engraving on things like watches and shotguns etc. It takes a level of motor skills that very few people have.
Finally, Glashutte Original is getting the recognition it deserves. Teddy, you need to do a part 2 to highlight the history and horological innovation of the brand. Bravo!
I’ve always thought Glashutte Original watches looked stunning but seeing behind closed doors, the craftsmanship and quality imbued, makes them so much more special. Thanks for the trip.
As a proud owner of a Sea Q Pano Date this video is such a treat! Thanks Teddy and congrats! Being hosted by the CEO himself speaks volumes about the respect that you conquered in this industry.
Teddy and his team are the absolute pinnacle of watch videos. The quality, professionalism and attention to detail are as great as the watch brands featured.
I'm a toolmaker/engineer of several decades of experience. So when I see the guys drilling 0.2 holes on the lathe I'm respectful...But also I know that I could also easily do this job. However watching the guys engraving is something like a dark art to me. How they produce perfectly machined/engraved tiny components by hand...with a chisel, under a microscope, is completely beyond my understanding. Full respect to these super talented people
As an engineer who works in manufacturing, this video was my favorite. I love learning how these watchmakers make these amazing machines and I admire their dedication to manufacturing perfection. Keep up the great work Teddy.
Simply the best brand in the price segment. It is the only brand at this price point that truly deliver on haut horologie. Just imagine what other brands would charge for the hand-engraved ballance bridge with the dual swan regulator. 10K€ is truly a bargain from this standpoint. The documentary was wonderful.
when i think about a lot of luxury brands not being transparent about in house it is super inspiring to see Glashutte in this video. Makes me want a PanoMatic Lunar even more!
Everytime I see videos of watchmakers assembling parts by hand obviously being sold as how they always manufacture, I always get immediately suspicious. These people actually live up to that standard.
The rotor assembly can be automated, but it is impressive that labor protection and maybe even company vision can keep those jobs around. There is something special about having something made directly with human hands. I love the look of the first balance bridge. Less is more sometimes.
I have always had a deep appreciation for anything that is finely crafted. Be it a watch, a painting, or a piece of furniture. The men and women who make exquisite pieces are truly artists in their respective fields and their love of precision craftsmanship is unsurpassed. Thank you Teddy for bringing this video (a masterpiece in itself) to the internet for all to see and appreciate, the amount of work that goes into these beautiful timepieces.
This video was awesome. I'm a mechanical engineer and seeing German engineering meet artistry in a village dedicated to watchmaking is the epitome of wonderful mechanical nerdiness. Thanks for taking us there Teddy and crew! Also, never given OG much thought until this... Now I want a Sea Q!
Many things to say. First, a big thank you to Teddy and his crew for taking on a truly magic trip. Glashütte is, IMHO, watchmaking at the very best. Interestingly enough, at different price points as well, if you take Nomos and A. Lange into account as well. Awesome!
Hey Teddy as a 24 years watch enthusiast from West Germany I didn't have tge opportunity yet to visit the awesome manufacturers of Glashütte in the east. I therefore highly enjoyed your video which even elevated my view of Glashütte Original. You did such a professional video there and I absolutely love that you are one of the big big names of the watch UA-cam rs that does not only talk about rolex patek, Richard mille and ap... thank you so much for your awesome service, you're a great producer and and awesome guy. I hope you had a great time in Germany.
Thank you, Teddy. It’s probably been 15 years since I did my own factory tour at GO. You did such a fantastic job of showcasing their manufacturing capabilities. I hope more brands partner with you in this regard. Thank you for producing some of the absolute finest content for the watch enthusiast community.

The close ups and the lighting of this video are simply spectacular. We have seen quite some documentaries of visits to watch factories but this is hard to beat.

I think GO is the one of if not the best in the business at executing the date function. They do it so beautifully and integrate it seamlessly into the watch face. I agree it actually does contribute positively to the aesthetics of the dial whereas in most other watches the date window seems like an afterthought.
This is a really incredible interview. Thank you Teddy and Roland for taking the time to do this. Also, I appreciate how Roland takes his time choosing his words and makes what he's saying deliberate, it makes what he's talking about very valuable.
