@@carlymichelle204 u know, one time I had a scary thought with charlie, I remember he was critiquing one of those people on tlc, and it was one of the extreme misers. Charlie is one of the most lowkey wholesome people on the internet. I say lowkey because many would be quick to think the guy playing with sextoys to be not wholesome.
You're using the word "playing" with such a negative and suggestive connotation, while the guy is literally playing with them like a child plays with legos. :D
People often conflate being weird with not being nice or wholesome. They aren’t mutually exclusive, he’s just a nice dude with an unusual sense of humour.

To me, it sounds like he has his own thoughts focused on describing his issues, and then working towards correcting them as they come, which if you remember he described basically his dopamine high as a passion instead of an addiction.
I think the goal of therapy isnt to solve problems, its to provide insight into what you think might be a problem so you can work towards bettering it. Notice how they started off talking about nothing, but dr k stopped him in his tracks once he mentioned something peculiar about how his brain functions, but didnt say it was an issue until he gathered enough information from the client to confirm that it may be a toxic part of their mind (but then again still just suggested action instead of telling him straight up there might be a problem)
@Eriko. Oy There's definitely some corrections to be made in your comments, but using some interpretation, I can totally see your point and I agree completely. I think that people like him deserve all the best because you can't become a better human being than that. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but at one point this improvement doesn't really matter as much and you're fine the way you are. Personally, it's taking me all the effort I have to learning to think in a smarter way. Even when I wasn't an adult, I was always really keen on fixing a lot of my personality flaws. I often feel like it's going to be impossible for me to ever be fully happy with the kind of person I am, but logic dictates that repetitive attempts at something completely realistic that merely takes a lot of thinking and practise, will eventually result in success. I hope to one day be like Charlie in many aspects, and I believe that learning from these people is a very good thing to do. Up to now I've been very limited in many aspects as to what I was capable of, due to the inability to socialise and interact with others the way that I wanted, as I believe that interpersonal and intrapersonal interactions are the two fundamental skills to being able to develop as a human being. Now starting Uni this will be important to learn and my interactions will be more worthwhile than what they were like prior to that.
I love how Charlie keeps making jokes and memes and Dr. K keeps taking him seriously and has to make sure it's a joke. Goes to show what kind of things he works through and how professional he is.
@Gameminer Yeah all of my friends with crippling self doubt and low self esteem make self deprecating jokes too often. On the other hand, my friends who tend to be cocky and confident make jokes calling themselves gods and incredible humans and whatnot.
It's like Dr. K calling himself a 'boomer', it's a joke but also a nod to how he is indeed not super-confident in his abilities to run a lot of twitch related software, and he is gonna sometimes screw up at it while he's learning.
Because jokes and humor are some of the biggest defense mechanisms in approaching or avoiding serious issues, especially about one’s self. Which is why many times, the type of people we know who are constantly funny and joking almost every other sentence, are actually struggling on the inside.
This was absolutely comedy gold. Charlie explaining skynut and the doctor just like blown away by all of the insane things that come from charlie. Absolutely gold. Charlie will bring so much attention to this channel and I must personally commend the decision to include him unfiltered. What an amazing interview and I’m so glad it’s made for my comedy pleasure
charlie has been the only youtuber i've stuck with for 10+ years. I found Charlie back when ray william Johnson gave him a shout out on his qwop video 9 years ago and I’ve been watching him since, he is literally my favourite content creator and seeing him evolve throughout the years from never wanting to show his face to live-streaming and joining in tournaments and playing with my favourite streamers. Also how he has always stayed down to earth and stayed relatively the same. Here’s to another 9 years!
JonsonerETA Same man, his humour really just clicked with me and basically helped develop my sense of humour too. He stands out the most on UA-cam for me since I feel like he is most relatable and genuine dude on the platform.
The guy gave 100% of the channel’s earnings to charity for YEARS in a time when big UA-camrs where earning silly amounts of money. He basically made an apology video when he started taking in 50% of the channel’s income. He’s a proper OG.
honestly listening to this, it really showed me how nice and lowkey wholesome charlie is. like,,, putting others in front of you is honestly not something easy to do and hearing what charlie says and his motivations and stuff like that really makes me look up to him
Are we not gonna mention that these are totally different types of people? It is so epic that they can have a chill, comfortable conversation like this. True men
How is that heart breaking, it's pretty normal for most people to try to be humble and they think that is the way of not sounding arrogant, its just a problem on the communication side, not deep rooted :DD
@@divineoverhand5307 hey, maybe I’m wrong (I consider being incorrect to be one of my skills), but I have heard many people who are confident but not arrogant graciously accept compliments. It’s not an easy skill to learn though. But when every single compliment is deflected rather than accepted I have found that it often says something about a person’s opinion of themselves. But like I said, I could be wrong. Also I believe Dr. K picked up on this, which is why later in the interview when Charlie deflects the compliment K pushes further to get him to accept it.

I’ve never really done this type of meditation before… previously I had done the ones where someone guides you by saying “focus on your breathing, focus on the feeling of sitting/laying down, focus on what you can hear”, etc, but this was so interesting. The point about it being a practice at being able to focus your attention on what you want to actually made meditation make so much more sense, I used to just view it as a calming mechanism, but it’s literally a practice/training for everyday life… also this whole conversation was really interesting, loved seeing it! Charlie and you both are so amazing! Glad to have good influencers like you to give me direction to take my self improvement journey whenever I’m unsure or lost :)
Wow what a humble guy. Love to see his thought process and how he perceives the questions that come at him. Jenifer Lawrence is lucky he didn’t steal the spotlight from her.
I like how Charlie rationalizes away the usefulness of his Yu-Gi-Oh cards. "Well, if someone busted into my house and said they were going to kill everyone I loved if I couldn't beat them at Yu-Gi-Oh..."
I absolutely love your channel Dr K. You really are creating a better online community for gamers. Thank you so much. It really means a lot to me and has helped me out tremendously. I'm very happy to have found your channel
I dig Charlie's intelligence, and I've been enjoying these HG videos, so I appreciated this one. Fun to see him be excited to realize Moist Charlie is Penguin Charlie.
yeah rich white kid raised in a rich white area grows up to buy himself DDR machines Yu-Gi-Oh cards his own apartment a streaming setup, gaming rig etc but no he's a pure altruist
Charlie is such a fantastic orator. If you transcribed what he said, it would actually read well written and thought out, even though everything is off the top.
1:32:30 Interestingly enough, I feel like Charlie arrives at a solution to Dr. K's question without even realizing it. I think there are massive lapses in education in the world of the Internet and social/parasocial relationships. This would be a really interesting series of conversations to approach because I can empathize with the confusion someone might feel in not recognizing the differences, especially in the age of social media. This is especially true given the fact that many people have grown up, or are currently growing up, with such constant exposure to it that they wouldn't even realize there is a difference to begin with. Food for thought perhaps!
13:40 Symptoms of addiction. 1) Compulsion to do it 2) Preoccupied about it 3) Taking over other aspects of life I realized that I'm addicted to my work. I love doing what I do, so much to the extent that it's become a large part of my lifestyle. But it has lead me to ignore other parts of my life such as family, socialization and health which I think counts as impairment of function. It's not very explicit, because from a 3rd person pov, I'm earning money and living a generally normal life, but it is taking over other parts of my life for sure. However idk if I'm prepared to change it rn. I'm still at a pre-contemplative stage I think. I like this addiction - I see it might be bad in the long run, but for now it's cool for me.
For me gambling became an addiction when I couldn't quit. It got so bad and eventually climaxed when I lost a huge amount of money that I absolutely could not afford to lose at the time. I remember realizing why people would commit suicide after losing big at casinos and had some of the most serious suicidal moments of my life. I was so addicted though, the next day I was right back at it trying to win back what I had lost.
I can sorta relate i have never gambled real life but i gambled everything i had in one game and lost everything lots of times and it was worth real money too
I resonate with Charlie's money spending guilt. My mom lost her job in 2007 and despite bouncing back by 2009, they never let me know. So while my mom is tripling her yearly income every year, im thinking that we are on the verge of collapsing. Thank you parents for letting me know when times are shitty and never letting me know things are getting better good move folks
@paco garza because compared to the 0 dollars I bring in to the family, how dare I question their ability to provide. And I was 11-15 or 16 at the time but to me that wasn't an excuse. Basically I assumed questioning it is selfish
@paco garza good to note that during those years and frankly all my childhood my parents get into verbal altercations with eachother and @ me 3 or 4 times a week and when I say verbal altercation I mean straight screaming slamming doors and throwing shit just to emphasize words
@paco garza things are great now! I've learned that my parents are not God and they are flawed as well. That alone is the biggest factor in improving my mental health this year
I feel u. My parents always tell me when spending is low but when they bounce back I am left in the dark, still thinking that we have to spend money on food alone.
Dude, the Shri Yantra segment kinda blew my mind. With my eyes closed seeing the image through my mind, struggling to mantain it, and then hearing "try and hold on" gave me chills cause I knew exactly what he meant. Such a great exercise.
"so you like cards?" "yeah, i dont play and i don't have an obsession" "how about your self esteem?" "pretty good and i love my family" "good" "awesome"
This video made me somehow love charlie even more, because it made me realize how cool of a guy charlie really is. He is one of the most authentic, kind hearted real creators on the internet. It’s crazy how much enjoyment he has brought to me in my years watching his content, and how much he’s influenced my humor throughout the years
Have been going through some of Charlie's back content, and wanted to say this was a very interesting interview. It's surprising for a 2 hour VOD to maintain interest throughout, but this one managed. I'm a fan of both Your, and Charlie's work.
The respect that they have for one another is beautiful to see. Like watching Charlie and GM Daniel talk on stream. - love when conversations are approached like this
Charlie is one of the greatest ppl I've witnessed in my life. Period. He wouldn't say so or put it off as exaggeration. Instead of writing a thesis about why I'm right, I'll just leave it at that. Love you man. ;*
This is a pretty good discussion not only because of what is being talked about, but also because Charlie is putting himself out there in a way that he isn’t normally.
Yooo Charlie just got a psychotherapy session! Wow! Wow... I never knew I needed to see how my fave UA-camrs handle being in sessions that I am in every 2 weeks. Wow. Thank you for this content!
Endgame eat your heart out, this is the crossover of the century. Charlie is genuinely on the "Rushmore" of wholesome gamers. I'm only about 45 in so far, but in case he doesn't mention it, dude used to donate everything he made through youtube. Great guy.
59:40 Thank you for the shri yantra. I knew exactly what it was for as soon as I saw it lol. I actually have a much easier time with the outermost and innermost layers than the middlemosts. I have pretty extreme ADHD and focusing at all can be a significant challenge. This is an awesome tool for practicing
I didn't think this would help me at all, and I thought it would be all fun and jokes with the Yu-gi-oh Addiction part, but then I started thinking about my relation with League of Legends. Then he brought it up, and I think I've been in denial about League for a long time. Thank you for opening my eyes.
I love Charlie. :D I started watching him about 4 months ago because he is so chill and so fun that shit I would have NEVER watched before I watch because it is him doing it. I don't even like Pokemon and such.. yet I cannot help but watch all the unboxing streams. LOL Ty for talking to him!
Honestly i loved this talk. Two of the most well adjusted people on Twitch just talking about ideas in general. Love the deep dive emotionally reactive Dr K talks but this was a nice change of pace, just two guys being dudes.
I honestly did not see this collaboration but it's so epic. I just found this health gammer gg guy a week ago and now to find this random vid with one of my fav youtubers and to hear his voice on situations. Iconic vid love it sm
After following along with the meditation i was actually able to redirect my attention away from reading the comments a lot faster than usual. I think this could be the perfect meditation for me, thank you! 👍
Are you kidding!?!!? he probabaly he's probabaly like 12ft, the width of each card is about half or 1 mm, each pack has about 10 I assume, a box has like 10 packs I guess? He bought upwards of 30 boxes just the other day. He's bought over 100 I'd say (boxes)
The section about a quarter of the way through of putting other people ahead of yourself literally made me realize... Well I've been wanting to be a content creator but it always seems like I'm not myself when I'm streaming/ making videos and... That's what i want to do on UA-cam, I find myself enjoying a show that's funny as hell and thinking to myself like "damn i wish so and so were here to laugh with me" I could make videos just how charlie does. This video helped me, thank you. Also me and charlie have a lot in common :D
The issue with toxicity isn't that people enjoy being mad on social media it is that social media manipulates the content you see to make you upset because that is what causes you to engage with the platform more.
That sounds like a negative side effect of algorithm-drive social media feeds. I don't engage with things that make me angry because I often find that there is no point in me engaging with it, so my social media feeds don't often provide content that makes me angry. There are obviously exceptions and that would be due to the fact that those types of posts absolutely get a ton of attention, so it's bound to appear for me every once in a while. My point is that, if people were a little more mindful of their emotions and what they're taking away from the content they consume, social media might be a more positive outlet for people. I would also like to point out that there is a difference between engaging with content that makes you angry vs engaging with content you disagree with. Social media could be so much more than what it is, but in my experience, most people don't seem interested in being constructive.
I feel like I finally understand why I like watching Charlie's content. My ideas align with his to near perfection, though in regards to spending to see the enjoyment of others, something flipped that switch and I feel I spend more for myself nowadays. It's really interesting to think about.
Feeling guilt for self-indulgence is something that can wear down on a person’s mental health, for sure. Yet, in most people, it’s a very positive trait to develop. The ability to set boundaries for your own indulgences means an ability to exercise a level of self-control over your actions. There’s an interesting phenomenon: a person with a smoking addiction has an expected lifespan shorter than average. Pretty expected. But, a person who has quit a smoking addiction has an expected lifespan longer than average. It’s like a lifestyle strategy, getting guilt tripped against your own desires. I always want to make friends with these kinds of people, but of course there are drawbacks
@@dualscreen8789 I meant drawbacks as a strategy, and not as a friend (I worded it wrong) Addiction and restriction are two sides of the same coin. To recognize something addictive as being indulgent and to be able to restrict yourself from it is generally a good trait. The drawback is that you might over-restrict yourself, even on things that may not be good to restrict. It's like addiction, but the other way around. You'll see this happen a lot in [trigger warning] eating disorders. Though the behaviors can vary wildly, people with these disorders may find a lot in common with their struggles. People that tend to restrict themselves may generally have good outcomes with their behavior, but it might not always mean a healthy relationship with their desires. The psychology of a person with a healthy relationship with food and smoking is one where they don't feel such extremely addictive/restrictive impulses in the first place.
Just realize I don't like to spend money on myself just like Charlie. Heck I even refrain from using potions & food in video games because I might run into a situation where I will need it for a quest xDD
@@Jmod8 Well that's fine, your comment made it sound like your constantly spending money almost like an addiction. A lot of people are like that and I don't think it's healthy personally.
Dude same, I feel so guilty when spending money as well because I feel the need to just save it. And the potions/food thing in video games applies as well, it's actually hilarious
28:40. This is a really tricky device Dr K is using. He wants to throw out a potentially offensive theory about Charlie, but doesn't want Charlie to become uncooperative with him.
What do you mean, lowkey wholesome. It's Jesus Christ himself we're talking about
He made body armour out of fleshlights. He's saving lives.
People often conflate being weird with not being nice or wholesome. They aren’t mutually exclusive, he’s just a nice dude with an unusual sense of humour.
Look, people either get it, or theyre too stupid to get his sarcasm and think hes not aware he acts like a degenerate. Just enjoy what you enjoy

bruh charlie has his life together dr k couldn’t even find a topic to solve
Yeah I kinda wanna be like Charlie one day. He just does what he enjoys and not really care about money and he just helps a lot of people
To me, it sounds like he has his own thoughts focused on describing his issues, and then working towards correcting them as they come, which if you remember he described basically his dopamine high as a passion instead of an addiction.
Does what he enjoys, has a loving family and girlfriend, great friends, an official podcast, and an accomplished actor and chess player
I love how Charlie keeps making jokes and memes and Dr. K keeps taking him seriously and has to make sure it's a joke. Goes to show what kind of things he works through and how professional he is.
@Gameminer This guy gets it.
@Gameminer bruh true that
Because jokes and humor are some of the biggest defense mechanisms in approaching or avoiding serious issues, especially about one’s self. Which is why many times, the type of people we know who are constantly funny and joking almost every other sentence, are actually struggling on the inside.
Him having a very tiny fangirl moment when he hears his voice was cute.

Heartbreaking to watch, everytime Dr K gave Charlie a compliment he almost couldn't accept it.

Food for thought perhaps!
this is bolstered by the fact that most people who know about real relationships are generally out just having real relationships

Ended up overcoming my addiction.
(Really enjoyed the intellectual back and forth btw)
13:40 Symptoms of addiction.
1) Compulsion to do it
2) Preoccupied about it
3) Taking over other aspects of life
I realized that I'm addicted to my work.

Dr. K: “Charlie it sounds like the world is lucky to have you.”
Me: *YOU’RE GAH DAMN RIGHT*
I feel like I finally understand why I like watching Charlie's content. My ideas align with his to near perfection, though in regards to spending to see the enjoyment of others, something flipped that switch and I feel I spend more for myself nowadays. It's really interesting to think about.
Like, it's ridiculously close how often I can easily see myself feel guilty for making purchases for myself
@@kennethyee5161 I've... Never though about it like that. What would be the drawbacks?
@@dualscreen8789 I meant drawbacks as a strategy, and not as a friend (I worded it wrong)
Addiction and restriction are two sides of the same coin.
@@kennethyee5161 Interesting... Thank you for the new perspective!
Just realize I don't like to spend money on myself just like Charlie. Heck I even refrain from using potions & food in video games because I might run into a situation where I will need it for a quest xDD
@@Jmod8 So you're a capitalist slave who fell for the lie that material things can bring a man joy.
@@Jmod8 Well that's fine, your comment made it sound like your constantly spending money almost like an addiction. A lot of people are like that and I don't think it's healthy personally.
fhgjbknl yes the potions thing is so true i really do not like that i do it though
Dude same, I feel so guilty when spending money as well because I feel the need to just save it. And the potions/food thing in video games applies as well, it's actually hilarious
@@sanserof7 its not healthy. do you think shaming and attacking people will get them to change the habit though?
Dr. K. starting out strong with a yarn about the profundity of his morning dump!
28:40. This is a really tricky device Dr K is using. He wants to throw out a potentially offensive theory about Charlie, but doesn't want Charlie to become uncooperative with him. So he pins the theory on unnamed colleagues, hoping Charlie engages with the theory.
