For real there are ideas in Buddhist philosophy of accidental Buddha's. The Buddha was just the one that decided to go around teaching people, but in theory there could have been countless people who figured out how to live in bliss and just kinda got on with their lives, unaware that they were anything special, or lacking the skills to teach their wisdom. I think this is what K was getting at about the 'spiritual personality' that Thor has, he has figured out some profound philosophy of life without realizing that its a big deal, its just normal to him.
I love how Thor kept wanting to give these long, verbose answers and Dr K was like "bro I was just trying to get to my next point" lol! I'm the same way as Thor. Great stream.
It's the strength and weakness of the analytic mind to cover all the possible details. Such a vibe! And as someone who get's "scolded" for comments just to reply "🥲But....that WAS the shortest I could get", I relate sooo much!
i think it has to do with the internal eye vs external eye. Thor is more aware for his standards but he might struggle still with unawareness because as a streamer because most of his material is internal like reading himself instead of others, which makes sense...streamer is a rather lonely task. And the funny thing about unawareness is, you are unaware.
It's really never acceptable for someone to be interrupting that much when they were the one continuing to solicit the responses they were cutting off repetitively.
I still can't get over the fact that only 2-3 months ago, thor was averaging 200-300 viewers in a stream, and now he's getting 12,000 to 13,000 and his youtube channel had maybe a thousand or so subscribers, and next thing you know he's at 1.2 million. The fact I've been watching him for 2-3 yeas as a way to deal with boredom and loneliness and watching this happen to him is both amazing and well deserved.
Yeah but all those new people watching are like 20, disposable income and no goals or direction in life -- thor gives them that... and then they post stupid stuff in the stream all day and night showing us his popularity is on the back of dummies.
100% this crossover needs to continue. First half of this video was great, the second half was lightning. Thor is a great guy and he always struck me as someone with a lot of natural wisdom and a kind heart, seeing him on here with K was such a blessing.
Got hyped when I saw the thumbnail but these 2 delivered beyond my wildest dreams! Thor: I've been taking all the levels I can in artificer. Dr. K: yes but what about these 5 levels of monk on your character sheet? Thor: The what now?
@@publicalias8172 i mean if his delusions manages to make him feel content in life and even pushes him to help other people like him, then i want some of that delusions for myself lol
*at multiple times in this conversation* dr.k : so just take some time to think ab.. Thor: i understand, i got it. *Thor talks about it* dr.k: that is one of the best ways i've heard someone describe it
When you have gone to and lived in the deepest layers of hell (Working at Blizzard during its worst times), you either come out like this, or be completely dead inside. Glad he was able to get out and just blossom into the beacon he is today.
If you consider a person who just starts yapping and couldn't care less about the reality and intricacy of things of subjects at hand and more or less just to push their own ideology disguised as common sense the likes of top streamers then honestly not impressive. You should grow up
This is potentially the most educational and transformative videos you've published on your channel. It might be more powerful the closer you are to the point of being ready for "prestige", but it is rare that we go this in depth and comprehensive on spirituality. I think this is because often in these conversations Dr.K speaks of Step 1-3 pretty often, as that is where a large amount of people are at. Here we started at step 4, and worked our way up to 7.
Hmm I'll try that aswell because Im a bit of a slow thinker. I just have to learn to actually think then and not to worry about being to slow instead of thinking about the topic...
Same, you love to see it. Absolutely huge green flag for me if I see someone be comfortable with needing time to digest a moment, and admitting that they don't know/aren't sure of something others would assume they "should" know. I always liked his shorts but this video has really confirmed that Dr K is a real one.
I first saw this with a guy who also had a remarkable level of shit-togetherness at an old job. He was a programmer at the company I was at and did it for funsies and "pocket money" (pocket money being a laughable term with the ton he made) because he was primarily the president or vice president of this microchip company that also made him quite a few pennies. He was also a hardcore bicyclist, the type to do like 55 mile rides and shit. When people would come to him for his expertise on an issue, which was often, they'd ask him a question, and he wouldn't even ask to think, he'd just fucking do it. He'd just sit there, maybe give a "hmm..." or a "let's see..." before looking off to the side or downwards or what have you, though none of those were a given. He'd just sit silently, for I'd say on average 10-15 seconds, sometimes substantially more, sometimes less and not a soul ever disrespected that - the closest would be to add like a quick extra detail right at the beginning of the thought process that would help. I had never seen that before and I found it hugely fascinating. The amount of power that he had and attention from others who focused so intently on his silence to await his response was incredible.
That's 90% of therapy, with the last (important) 10% being guidance and knowledge from the therapist on what you might actually be saying when you say something. And you don't even realize it.
That’s been the majority of therapy sessions for me. Just conversation. Yet I always leave feeling so much better. Great mind or not, veryone should try it.
Yes, that is what therapy mainly is, but it would have sounded less like a conversation “between two great minds” if Thor ever stepped back from needing to come off like he knows everything about the universe just because Dr. K asked “do you like peanut butter?”
Genuinely, literally every single person, can get SOMETHING out of therapy. Some people get more out of it than others, and some people really need it. Let's de-stigmatize mental health!
Thor actually has a short specifically about this. Damned if i know which one offhand but it's worth going through all his shit really. And yeah he used that phrasing but the words around it were more precise too.
He was holding it back, but the tiniest smile came out of Dr. K’s mouth at 53:09 after recognizing that Thor truly prioritized the conversation about the mental health of his community before anything else, even though Dr. K set up the other option as more appealing and Thor seemed very interested personally.
"okay Thor, sit completely straight, back, neck etc." the man's a programmer for God's sake! He's going to get a sports injury with that kind of behavior 😂
What I learned from this stream is that if you're starting something and are worried about failure, then instead start with something(s) very small which won't have the same stakes. You'll learn a lot, you'll have more confidence going into the bigger thing and it will help reframe the bigger thing as just one more thing.
Key is reframing, if you can do that in any way that works you can do anything you want. I've felt that speed reading an entire series of books does that for me (takes a couple days though).
Sometimes you'll hear a similar phrase of "fail small, fail fast". It's mainly about feedback loops. The more feedback you can get, the more chances you get to adjust your trajectory to hit your target. Aim for a closer target instead and work your way up to the distant target.
The problem is not the failure but the all the failures that haunt you and the ego of you. If you can’t change the perception then you can’t follow thors guide you can’t be thor because you’re not thinking like him and processing failure like him
@@Tennosoul Smaller works don't necessarily have the same success criteria and so are more difficult to "fail". Getting better at something through practice helps confidence and so even if you subsequently "fail", it might not sting as much or in the same way. By doing preparatory work your chance of failing also decreases. Even if you are still bad with dealing with the stick of failure, perhaps you can find the carrot of success more enticing. Everything is a process. Everything requires steps. You don't have to be Thor to be a bit better than you are now. The process can help change your thinking, so changing your thinking isn't a prerequisite.
I'm a shoemaker, and we employed the same idea at school. Start with the most basic shoe, note your mistakes and add complexity to the next project. It really bloody works.
It's very interesting to hear Dr. K give a lecture to a student who already understands the subject. Thor didn't have the same language that Dr. K had, but every time Dr. K explained a concept it felt like Thor acknowledged it as a concept he already understood. The first hour was for Thor to explain his life and Dr. K to understand. The next two hours was for Dr. K to explain new concepts to us. But I feel like, if the audience wasn't here, these two could've skipped the second half of this video and immediately jump to the next level. They just had to slow down to make sure everyone else is along for the ride '' '
I really admire the emotional maturity Thor has, balanced with the meaningful consideration he gives everything. I'm rediscovering a lot of the lessons he talks about, and it's like a huge validation from the Universe to keep going, keep trying. I miss meaningful conversations like this-- both the good and the bad.
It must be exciting for him to be able to delve this deeply with someone. Usually it’s the same 1-5 conversations over and over again in his interviews. Thor has a level of intuitive understanding, on top of such a developed “Hold Up”, and the innate curiosity for thinking about and analyzing things that he already blew through convos 1-20 years ago. I was excited, too, to finally feel like I’m learning something new from Dr K. We never get this deep into spirituality, and Thor’s linguistic ability to succinctly and uniquely describe phenomena pairs well with Dr K’s own.
Thor's so used to expanding and working on a topic verbally because of his streaming, and Dr. K is such a good interviewer, I could watch several repeat interviews. Thor is incredibly self aware it seems, and completely open and curious about new and different viewpoints, while understanding and internalizing what he's talking in, paired with Dr K's deep understanding of the phycological realm that it makes this whole thing feel like a TED talk about emotional health and awareness. Absolutely amazing It also made me giggle when Thor's train of thought ran you over a few times Dr. K and you had to have a little think break 😂❤
Emotional Processing (2:10:22) : 1) Recall the memory 2) Relive it 3) Reframe it in a way that not only makes sense to you but is also helpful and productive 4) Put it back in it's new reframed form in your memory keep in mind that if your analytical part of the brain is messed up (meaning that you're ability to analyze situations is impaired somehow) this process might make the memory worse, so make sure to take your time in step 3, you might even need someone's help to give you a better perspective or analysis of that memory.
I wish Dr. K focused more on the fact that Thor doesn't feel like he "deserves" much. He constantly deflects his own needs in favor of what he believes others need. Would be interesting to hear whether Thor loves himself, considers himself love-able by others, and feels deserving of his current success. There might be some type of trauma response as a result of needing to walk on eggshells for an emotional, narcissistic mother and put her needs first all the time. Otherwise, this was definitely one of the better interviews (and I've been following Dr. K since the beginning.) Looking forward to part 2!
YES - no one else is seeing this, it seems, but that was immediately something that set off alarm bells for me. It seems that if Thor can be a teacher and holder of logical, sage wisdom, he feels he will be able to skim past his own trauma and insecurities.
I think this an interesting point of view. But I don't get the general vibe from him that he feels undeserving. I feel like he prepared to be deserving, for example how his channel blew up and has stayed this way so far. How he acknowledges his efforts, but has enough humility to know its not entirely all his efforts. Cues for me also were like him never wanting to be homeless again, and not going into a self-hating spiral like saying to himself that he deserved to be in such a bad situation. The ferret rescue is also something he wants to do, but doing it in a really sustainable way. Like it seems like he gives himself a lot of space emotionally too. Like if something doesn't work out, he allows himself to feel the negative emotions and work them out and realizing that this emotional processing takes time, as much as needed. When he expressed about prioritizing the wellbeing others when deciding the direction of the chat, he made his interests about what he wanted for himself clear too. Another example was how he knew he wasn't ready to have kids, and stuck by that instead of giving into his now ex-wife's wishes and just had kids. I think for me, seeing this comment of yours, makes sense though. Like knowing the history of what he's went through, thinking about the negative experiences of others who have been through something like he had, you really want to make sure he is truly ok. And that's valid.
Love that the algorithm found Thor! He is a true gem. As someone who will be turning 30 soon and grew up on the early internet, Thor often feels like the wise older brother I never had lol
This conversation did let me appreciate once more that i've learnt English good enough to follow in depth conversations like this. One of my favourite Talks ever. Thanks to both of you.
I feel like I sorta relate to Thor in the logical thinking part. I've been surrounded by people acting emotional in my family and it caused me to be more logical because I thought, "I don't want to be like them and suffer."
Careful, a lot of times the emotionality is still there(genes and conditioning are a b****) but you've just gotten good at rationalizing why your emotions aren't valid. Your emotions are valid friend, no matter how irrational they may be.
yeah, as the guy above said, be careful with suppressing emotions too much, they are gonna still be there and maybe they could explode. The 'Inside Out' animation movie does an excellent job showing it
@@farfromirrational there's a difference between suppressing emotions and processing them. listening to your emotions and hearing what they are trying to tell you, and then logically processing that information, is healthy. immediately rejecting the emotion as illogical without hearing what it's trying to tell you is what is unhealthy.
This conversation is great; I especially relate to the part where Thor said “don’t tie your personal value to the legs your creation has, tie it to what kind of game developer was I 3 months ago or 6 months ago?” I substitute “artist” instead of game dev for myself, but I think that’s a really mentally healthy outlook to have for things you create
That's the great part, his advice was said in mind for developing games. But it's really great advice that you can apply. Anywhere! It's been really inspiring as I'm trying to learn how to make music. It's really good advice for any form of creation
0:09:30 start conversation, story of Thor 1:10:00 start lecture/conv about how perception works using sanskrit terms and neuroscience Highlights for me: 1:34:00 biases and depression, 1:52:00 getting stuck between ego/ahamkara and unprocessed emotion/samskara, 2:20:00 getting unstuck & summing up 2:25:00 conversation on religion, next step on the path for Thor (to enlightenment?) 2:40:00 meditation finding the empty room 2:55:00 ish lifestyle: sleep, food, substances
I think Thor's best quality is his openness and natural curiosity. He doesn't live in a world of assumptions, he doesn't rush to judgement or make bad interpretations; everything and everyone deserves to be given a chance to be understood, and he not only takes the time to understand, but he learns infinitely more (which satisfies his curiosity) by being open to a similar experience being new or different in some way that he would have never expected. He really approaches every day as if it brings him something fresh to think about, and that's one of the strongest mindsets to go through life with, because not only are you constantly finding something new each day, but you can receive the events of your life better by being open to the experience. He just has one of the most powerfully curious minds I've seen, and his interest in puzzles and problem solving are excellent assets that he's cultivated which have partly shaped the kind of person he is and how he responds to things.
Most of us based off of the nature of psychology, develop our character to not be what we disliked. It would be idiotic to choose to be what we hate. So naturally, yes but also we all are like that to some capacity. There are outliers but those are different reasons as to why. For ex, being abused makes them an abuser. Most of us refuse to even be near hurting someone through abuse.
I think this is the single most concise and helpful video ever produced by HealthyGamer. Absolutely incredible. 2:10:25 Emotional Processing: "Recalling it, reliving the emotion, reframing it, and then filing it back away again using a more analytical approach rather than just having it up at the forefront of your mind".
This is really fun to follow and get summarizing points of view like 1:47:40. 1:36:16 depression - view on reality 1:38:44 - emotion corrupting memory, while empowering the recall - negative feedback loop. 2:05:45 - PTSD insight - the location ("not in the past") of a memory 2:10:26 - reframing memory
intelligent and emotionally mature people like this tend to have better interviews with Dr. K because he can skip the “basic” stuff and go deeper. I see some of the comments acknowledging and praising that probably because they’re further along in their journey. But, I feel stuck at the beginning of my journey even though I’ve been trying to learn mental health for the past 4 years. I feel that I’m held back by my emotions, specifically the trauma and emotional baggage I’ve kept from when I was a kid.
Wishing you the best. I hope you can find a therapist that you like that can work on yourself like Thor said at 2:10:24, "Recalling it, reliving the emotion, reframing it, and then filing it back away again using a more analytical approach rather than just having it up at the forefront of your mind"
I thought I had processed the traumas of my past and moved past them long ago, but in reality I disassociated. It wasn't until I finally went to therapy, and let myself feel those emotions fully with somebody guiding me, that I have been able to process and reframe that trauma. I still have work to do on those traumas, but it does get easier each time.
That first hour as Thor was describing is experiences, his mental, how he's seeing eveything above rock-bottom survival as just hanging around doing stuff, I was right there with Dr. K, getting more and more excited at seeing someone who had amazing "stats" for yoga. And I saw how Dr. K kind of regretted giving him the old "so on what path do you want to continue this talk" and Thor picked the "mental health in game dev" and the Doctor basically railroaded him right back into spirituality. It's been so long since I last watched an HG interview, I'm really happy to have caught this in my feed
This is EASILY one of the best interviews I’ve seen from Dr. K so far. It’s rare that we get to see someone so spiritually advanced who has never formally practiced spirituality. I hope we get a follow up months from now to see how he’s progressed if he decides to go down the road to enlightenment.
Spirituality is not a requirement for enlightenment. Some of the most enlightened individuals I've had the pleasure of crossing paths with haven't been spiritual individuals.
This episode was an epiphany for me. It reminded me of answers I had stored somewhere within me, it made me recall a path I stumbled upon in the past, it helped me remember that even in this fast-paced modern world, most of the answers lie within me. I think it made me understand what spirituality means, or actually, remember that I already knew but hadn't connected the dots. Dr. K talks about following the next steps; I think I still need the first steps, but this gives me hope. Maybe I'm seeking external answers again, but I wonder where I can find some guidance. Do you know if Dr. K's courses delve deeper into the subject?
2:10:00 that explanation helps to explain why looking back at my break up nearly half a decade ago over all this time has been getting better as I continually go back into the pain to reframe it and how it has a hold on me today. Not perfect but not as bad as it was and I’m still generally able to function, with still some insecurity to work on with other people and relationships being compared to that situation. This was super awesome to watch.
This is such a great convo. I appreciate how Thor seems very grounded in his worldview and the way that he does things and his goals but also so open and receptive to other peoples viewpoints and interpretations of things. Definition of confident without being cocky.
The most viewed moment in this conversation happens at 2:10:00. Now what's totally mindblowing is Dr. K expaining something, then Thor summarizing it, and Dr. K acknowledging it's the best and most beautiful summary of it that he can't even repeat when he just heared it. This is the human condition at its core. What Dr. K. immediatly realizes is that it's better than anything he said before, with the realization he can't even recall it. So when your Indriya is fully integrated with your Buddhi you know, you just know without being able to directly repeat it with your other abilities. And it doesn't matter that you can't directly recreate it from memory, what matters is your immediate comprehension. What teacher would give points to that?
1:35:36 I constantly experience what Thor is referring to here. I have depression, and I've always perceived ambiguous texts that end with a period in a negative way, not necessarily disrespectful or rude, but I always perceived them to be in a severe tone, even though I know usually that's not the case To my brain an "Okay, I'll talk to you later" is much more lighthearted than an "Okay, I'll talk to you later." The latter makes me immediately think that I've done something wrong, or that you're upset
I’ve got a lot of things wrong with my head and one of them is intense amount of anxiety with big spikes of it for no reason sometimes one of the things that does have reasons is every time I get a text or a call my heart rates spikes even if I know it’s about to happen and I have a damn near panic attack every time. Sometimes I’ll get emails saying hurry up before it’s too late for like a sale or something but I read those words and immediately freak the fuck out I find it strange so many little things can affect me so drastically.
I understand this feeling - but I want to add that for me anyway, adding the period sounds formal and completes the sentence in a way that lets me know you mean it. The open ended "okay, I'll talk to you later" feels soft and a bit non committal. I think people just perceive things differently. But the thing I think is worth mentioning regardless of our specific responses, both of us read those two different punctuations as different feelings. is there really a difference ? I'm not sure honestly.
For me, language has rules and punctuation is a part of those rules, I let people perceive my text how they will because managing their response to my text is too difficult.
To be fair, a lot of people view the period at the end of a sentence as a sarcastic thing. It's not just something subconscious, some people do indeed use the period to imply sarcasm or seriousness etc. Sometimes you can tell that their cadence/attitude changes when they use periods. It's subtle stuff, and it's certainly not universal, but sometimes you can get a sense of the way people apply these things when typing. I tend to leave the period out at the end of messages if I want the tone to be light and not mean or harsh or anything like that
This has been the most valuable thing from this channel for me, and that's saying something. Thor's and Dr. K's minds together is some magical shit. Thank you for this guys, it's so powerful.
2:10:25 Emotional Processing: Recall the experience Relive the emotion Reframe the experience Refile the experience in your memory banks with a new perspective formed by the analytical mind.
Hearing Thor talking about his "Wait, Hold up a moment" mentality towards processing things is very relatable for me. I was the oldest of 4 boys and my mother is much as he describes his. Thor is 100% right when he talks about how chaotic it can be in that situation. I was way more introspective than my brothers, so I developed his mentality at a young age. My brothers on the other hand ranged so wildly from anger to depression depending on what was going on. He's also right about if you grow up with that kind of environment you think it is normal. It led to some very rough times in my 20s when I thought it was normal to have a woman abuse you mentally, physically, and emotionally until I had some good friends pull me out and open up my eyes. Its very hard to learn that life shouldn't be like that and it doesn't need to be.
I learned where my childhood traumas still accompany me today and how I can resolve them. I learned how to better control my emotions. I learned a massive next step for my meditation exercises and my spiritual journey. I received several very effective answers to the questions I asked the universe. and so much more. Thank you Dr. K and Thor!
I highly resonate with Thor's way of thinking and mindset in so very many ways. It is great to hear him talk about his experiences because I feel it will help me to a have a better direction for myself. Thank you for having him on this talk!
This unlocked so much knowledge for me. I have watched you both separately for months and it was a pleasure to watch you together. Thank you for the teaching and the learning; I appreciate it!
Interesting. He’s a technician of the human experience. He’s here, and observing. And trying to help the things he comes across. If I read it right, Dr. K is kind of impressed that Thor embodies a lot of Eastern Practice naturally.
when your job involves dealing with a lot of people who are in a bind like psychology, IT, automotive, nutrition, whatever, it's always a treat meeting somebody who isn't starting from square one and you can talk shop with them, or at least start at intermediate level instead of the very beginning
Awesome content, seriously. Kudos for Dr.K. for recognizing where to go to so it'd be useful/engaging for Thor and for the hability to deliver it, it's kinda rare to see someone giving this level of information/discussion on the internet and I'm thankful you made the most out of the opportunity. Also very happy to find out that Thor, which I only knew from a couple of very short videos, actually seems to be a really amazing and kind person.
I started an esports program at my local HS this year and I found this to be incredibly insightful into the background behind some of the issues some of my players may be dealing with. I would love to learn more about this topic, specifically how I as a coach can help my players who are struggling!
I love that you can tell Dr.K is passonate about this stuff, the tone in his voice and the amount of depth he explains things in is something you can only do when you truly love what you do. so refreshing to see someone this openly passionate about their profession
I've been following Thor for a some time now after stumbling across him at random in YT shorts. Though his world (game dev/programming self-employed that is) is quite different from mine (spatial designer) he has so many things and topics that can be applied generally to whatever one is doing. Such a fascinating guy.
had some pretty rough days with my anxiety disorder and family and i really cant overstate how much this conversation changed my view on life and my current emotional state. my hyperactive, stressed out self could finally chill a bit and take a more logical approach to my behaviour and some memories aswell. I had to pause multiple times to process some revelations. I literally asked my mum today, why shes looking so sad and she was completely confused by my question. Now i hear about depressed peoples perception being biased towards a negative view and it all makes SOOO much sense. I swear i had butterflies in my stomach all day and now they are gone. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart!
Just wanted to chime in and say that this was my exact experience. I'm not certain where to go from here yet, but my perspective has shifted. Hope you are doing well, and apologies if this is irrelevant or uninteresting.
I found thor like many others through youtube shorts and have been loving his content. I strongly relate to his analytical way of thinking and admire the clarity in which hes able to express his thoughts. The "hold up" mentality of working through negative emotions like anger or frustration is something ive been currently working on with a therapist. Ive always been an extremely go with the flow kind of person and have revently had some blowups with my significant other, which was scary and foreign for me for that to arise. This talk between dr k and thor has brought a lot of things to light and i just want to share my appreciation for the AOE healing aspect of these conversations. So thank you Dr k. ❤ A lot of the topics in this stream will be explored in upcoming therapy sessions.
I watched a ton of your videos and I can genuinely say this is my favorite one. The conversation was extremely insightful, Thor is very interesting to listen to. Please do a follow up.
Thor has the authority street cred to say make a 30day game. Because people willing to try it, and even if it does not work, they can at least say they had it on a good authority that it might work.
Dr. K needs one more monitor haha. Chats request to see Thor on Screen at the same time was hilarious. I imagine if Dr. K had one more monitor it would be an easy solve.
I have only seen shorts of him now and then, but this video added so much depth and nuance to his character, and all I can say is that I was in awe for 2 hours watching the video, he is such a wonderful and unique man
This is such a great interview, definitely one of my favourite Dr K videos. Interestingly, I found that I was getting envious of Thor. I started feeling frustrated at what I perceived to be the strength and robust development of his frontal lobe functioning. I'm 29 and was diagnosed with ADHD a little over three years ago, and my mind is screaming at me that Thor was just lucky to have a functioning frontal lobe that can put on the brakes and inhibit his automatic reactions in order to steer his mind to where he wants it to go. I have no idea if this is actually true about him, and it's clear that my ego and its comparison is kicking in like they were talking about in the video. But it's so frustrating to me to think that people like myself, who have been struggling for so long to take control of their lives, even over years and years of trying to work things out, self-reflecting and trying all these different things, can have a near impossible task in becoming someone like Thor just because we were born with a different brain. Combine this with the fact that he then says he only needs to sleep five hours a night, and I just start to think he's a superhuman, and this kind of life is unattainable to most people. I want to hope this kind of thing is possible for me, but at the same time, I don't want to try and open myself up for the hurt of failure and going through this mentsl process again.
Unsolicited youtube advice from someone with a completely different brain. Dont try to be Thor, he's lived his own life to make himself as he is now. You arent him, and how he is is unique to himself. Try to be you, develope your brain to be more of you. Try to be yourself, aim to be the best version of you that you can come up with without being revisionist towards yourself. Its easy to needle out flaws on yourself when lookong for self improvement. BUT Talks is easy, so heres a simple step; Look for something small, and I mean SMALL, that you wish was different, and change it for that day. If you liked the change, try it again the next day. Let yourself get side tracked or forget half way through if that happens, thats normal. If you want a challenge, pick two things the next time. . Have a good one random internet stranger! Hope my words are more than just hot air, good luck in your life!
@Zalamandar - hi bro, i've just read your message. I'm 28, got diagnosed with ADHD about a month ago. I'm a lawyer so you could safely say that this diagnose pretty much overturned my life. I always loved games and pivoted to be a video games lawyer so the law is more interesting (but sometimes it really isn't...). I totally feel you when you say that you just got born with different kind of brain, because this is what really hit me when I was thinking about years of struggle that my legal profession has required me to go through in order to try to match the level of my peers. I'm on meds for 1 month now, and life is so fuken easy (aside from some side adverse reaction events). But just receiving the diagnose allowed me to accept who I am, who I was and looking back at all the struggle that I had to gone through - I'm so proud of myself doing all that effort on my own! What I want to tell you is this: 1. I'm sure that to this day, you have things you can be proud of, that you have achieved with "this kind of different brain". Bro, in our case a lot of things is WAY harder than in neurotypical brains. You should and must be proud of yourself that you are where you are (even if that means just being mediocore), because you had it couple times harder than your peers. Period. Don't forget about it! 2. Our brains are our assets. We are just different and destined to other things than regular people. I see my brain as a superpower. Looking back - I could work, where others were already intellectually dead. I could dig thousand times deeper than they could, before getting tired. I always had high demands for myself and was able to put in a lot of effort, despite the circumstances. We just need to understand when our brains allow us to do that (in cases like: subject is urgent, a challenge or way above you, there is competition, or stress etc. ), and use that to our advantage! I'm having my fingers crossed for you! Remember that we are unique for a reason!
@@Zalamandar anytime bro. I felt a lot of empathy for you since I had gone through all you said prior and right after to the diagnosis. Still trying to manage my life knowing that my brain is different, it aint easy. But its all doable and we are no less capable than the others:)
Thor made a video several months ago titled “make video games”. It was about 40 min or so of the most inspirational talk I’ve heard online on this subject. I saved it and listen to it whenever I’m feeling doubts. Thanks Thor ❤.
I’ve never seen dr k. Been a fan of Thor for a short time. Both people impress me and what I found most impressive was dr k asking to take a moment to think. Never seen an interviewer allow dead air time but the importance of which is profound. He was digesting the conversation and developing thoughtful follow ups. Bravo.
I know this isn't an expert guest but I think talking to Stavros halkias would be very interesting to me, he gives advice and is very open about his life etc. Love the content a bunch
I think this should have to be translated to every single language. This interview is pure gold, I would love to share this with non english speaking people.
I don't know why but this is one of the only channel/content I can actually listen to for 3 hour straight, so intriguing. This collab was especially interesting, listening to you both. Two very professional and smart people having a discussion, so wholesome and eye-opening! Loved every second, thanks to you both. Keep upt he great work :)
This was one of the best streams, vary insightful and introspective it's like watching a college lecture, but being 100% invested in the topic at hand. I hope you have Thor come back on one day.
I've been one of those fortunate to run into Thor from UA-cam shorts. I really respect what he stands for and the value he gives to the world. Even though I'm not super into video game design I still find a lot of his stuff helpful. Grateful to have an interview with two of my favorite creators on youtube right now!
I say this with the maximum amount of caution, This video has been the most impactful 3 hours in the past 4 years of my life. Thank you both for translating the different languages of nerd and geek back and forth in such an understandable way. Y'all fucken rock 🤘😁🤘
This video reinforces my plan of seeing a therapist but whats stopping me is getting the right therapist and i want to have a conversation with Dr.k curious what he thinks about me in general and that could just be me wanting to have a deep conversation or to help me in general, when i have my first few sessions ill come back to your channel and comment on progress, thanks for everything you both do, i want to get into psychotherapy and game design but im so far behind in life 😢
Thor is probably the most discreetly phenomenal people ive seen in the creator sphere. Just a fascinating guy, this level of both wisdom and contentment is something to be admired. This was genuinely brilliant and inspiring.
Love the conversation, in general everything talked about is fascinating. I felt compelled to pause for a second and point out that around the 1 hour mark, dr k entertained the idea of talking about the demoralisation and i got the feeling that he speed ran through that portion and get to the meditation part asap. Because he jist briefly explained the aparant layer of the topic and concluded himself "alright now YOU said you are intereested in the meditation part" and abruptly directed the flow of conversation towards that
Hands down one of the best conversations I've ever seen in my life. The respect, willingness to share knowledge and information as well as various other factors made this truly a pleasure to watch!👏😁
Healthy Gamer is a miracle for the whole Gaming world. You always can relate something of his streams. Thank you for working really hard to make humans, human again ❤.
Long time healthy gg follower and this episode is my favorite of all time. So much genious in 1 place . This gives me so much inspiration and admiration. I love it!
These are my two favorite minds on UA-cam coming together!! Personally I am an atheist (formerly Christian), but I have always maintained the mindset that I am no more special than any person I pass in my daily life. I remember at about 16 years old realizing that there are 7 billion people on this planet that share experiences very similar to my own every single day and that my own personal experiences don't give me inherent privilege over others. But at the same time, each person has such immense value and significance that is either unrealized or over-realized. Loved listening to this conversation, only wish I could have been a part of it instead of a fly on the wall.
This was a blast. ❤
Thank you for having me on!
The crossover I never expected, but definitely wanted.
Never heard of you until now but you super inspired me! Thanks!
This was honestly my favorite out of at least 50 Dr. K interviews I watched, if not my favorite videos I've watched on UA-cam ever

Thor, the only human to enter monk mode without ever putting points in the monk class.
Legit.
@@DisgruntledPeasantyep, it's something that can happen to people naturally, Buddhism (among other things) is just the formalization of it

Yeah, and like....effortlessly at that!
Thor was just trying to create a new UA-cam short with every question.

i think it has to do with the internal eye vs external eye.

Here we started at step 4, and worked our way up to 7.

never watched dr k beyond shorts in passing before but I really admire how he isn't afraid to ask 'can I think for a minute?'
I’ve adopted it into my own academic and professional life and it feels like a cheat code tbh.
This wasn't therapy, This was a conversation. Two great minds had a conversation
That's 90% of therapy, with the last (important) 10% being guidance and knowledge from the therapist on what you might actually be saying when you say something. And you don't even realize it.
A great convo is like a recharge. You walk away feeling charged.
"You're punching in places you can not block" that hit me like the explosion in the beginning of Akira in the best way. Can you two start a podcast?

Yeah, same. Such a profound comment from Thor. Your brain knows all your weaknesses and some of us have brains that choose to routinely exploit that.

I knew thor had an unique personality. the sheer amount of helpful stuff he says during his streams/shorts. uplifting guy
Not Dr. K holding himself back from saying “You were a monk in a previous life.”
This is one of the best streams of all time, definitely
I miss meaningful conversations like this-- both the good and the bad.
yea this talk was incredible, one of his best interviews imo (maybe im biased because i love when Dr. K starts teaching spirituality lol)
Absolutely amazing
It also made me giggle when Thor's train of thought ran you over a few times Dr. K and you had to have a little think break 😂❤
Emotional Processing (2:10:22) :
1) Recall the memory
2) Relive it
3) Reframe it in a way that not only makes sense to you but is also helpful and productive
4) Put it back in it's new reframed form in your memory
keep in mind that if your analytical part of the brain is messed up (meaning that you're ability to analyze situations is impaired somehow) this process might make the memory worse, so make sure to take your time in step 3, you might even need someone's help to give you a better perspective or analysis of that memory.
+

Agreed, this is a great day to comprehend languages.
I'm like that too and what I realized is that's because I'm autistic. Maybe you would want to look into it as well
yeah, as the guy above said, be careful with suppressing emotions too much, they are gonna still be there and maybe they could explode.

Thor may already be aware of this, but he has spent his adult life attempting to become the person that he wished his mother would have been for him.
It’s like the observation that “we try to become the people we would’ve felt safe around as a kid”
huge insight
very well said.
I feel like many people with such adverse experiences do that
Most of us based off of the nature of psychology, develop our character to not be what we disliked. It would be idiotic to choose to be what we hate. So naturally, yes but also we all are like that to some capacity. There are outliers but those are different reasons as to why. For ex, being abused makes them an abuser. Most of us refuse to even be near hurting someone through abuse.

Yeah I feel like this too. It kinda connects alot of previous stuff that wasn't really grounded into a bigger picture.
This is amazing. Hearing Thor open up about things that I'm deathly scared of experiencing and seeing how he turned out in the end is motivating.
Thor picking up all these things and seems like he already knows all the spiritual side of things is actually really impressive. He is a HealthyGamer
This is really fun to follow and get summarizing points of view like 1:47:40.
1:36:16 depression - view on reality
1:38:44 - emotion corrupting memory, while empowering the recall - negative feedback loop.
2:05:45 - PTSD insight - the location ("not in the past") of a memory
2:10:26 - reframing memory
2:07:00 So trauma lives in our cache. That's terrifying, but the fact that it can be moved to cold storage gives me hope.
intelligent and emotionally mature people like this tend to have better interviews with Dr.
@@Ezonial thanks for sharing your insight. I am slowly realizing that I may have done the exact same. Thats why it hurts so much right now.
Huge respect for both of these guys. A regular show, weekly or monthly with Thor and Dr. K would be tight.
This is EASILY one of the best interviews I’ve seen from Dr. K so far. It’s rare that we get to see someone so spiritually advanced who has never formally practiced spirituality. I hope we get a follow up months from now to see how he’s progressed if he decides to go down the road to enlightenment.
completely agree, one of his best interviews in my eyes
He might advance to Buddha as Thor...
You can watch Thor stream, he streams for hours and talks a ton! Watch any progress in real time
2:10:00 that explanation helps to explain why looking back at my break up nearly half a decade ago over all this time has been getting better as I continually go back into the pain to reframe it and how it has a hold on me today.
1:35:36
I constantly experience what Thor is referring to here. I have depression, and I've always perceived ambiguous texts that end with a period in a negative way, not necessarily disrespectful or rude, but I always perceived them to be in a severe tone, even though I know usually that's not the case
To my brain an "Okay, I'll talk to you later" is much more lighthearted than an "Okay, I'll talk to you later."
The latter makes me immediately think that I've done something wrong, or that you're upset
I tend to leave the period out at the end of messages if I want the tone to be light and not mean or harsh or anything like that
@@BUGHUNTER6 it's like a punctuation dialect
This has been the most valuable thing from this channel for me, and that's saying something. Thor's and Dr. K's minds together is some magical shit. Thank you for this guys, it's so powerful.

this was absolutely one of the best VIDEO that i've ever seen ever. did not expect Thor to be such an insightful person. amazing interview!
Two wholesome uncles talking about mental health and existence just scratches that depression itch in my brain ❤ love both of ya'lls content
I know this video deserves more views, but Thor is so articulate and insightful that I needed to approach this video with some time and concentration.
Some of the best game dev advice I’ve gotten is from Thor: “FAIL FASTER”. Solid gold. I love this guy ❤
had some pretty rough days with my anxiety disorder and family and i really cant overstate how much this conversation changed my view on life and my current emotional state. my hyperactive, stressed out self could finally chill a bit and take a more logical approach to my behaviour and some memories aswell.
Please do a follow up.
insightful*
@@ozkifovxvypyvp3574 thank you! my apologies, english isn't my first language, i edited my comment
who would have thought growing up as game programmer's kid makes you level 100 in Dr K enlightenment scale :D
You sure that wouldn't make the tech chaps worse instead? XD Also, he rocked it this time!
@@KxNOxUTA he did a stellar job!
might be bad for his sub clinical adhd, I sometimes wonder if I got rid of one of my monitors my adhd symptoms might drastically improve haha
BUT
Talks is easy, so heres a simple step;
Look for something small, and I mean SMALL, that you wish was different, and change it for that day.
@@lastwymsi Thanks for the encouragement and taking your time to give advice :)
@@V3lt0S Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate hearing your story and words of encouragement :)
In my humble opinion as a non HealthyGG viewer, this is the most valuable 3 hours of time one can spend on UA-cam.
This was one of the best streams, vary insightful and introspective it's like watching a college lecture, but being 100% invested in the topic at hand.
I hope you have Thor come back on one day.
two really intellectual as well as emotionally smart people discussing, very interesting talk!
I've been one of those fortunate to run into Thor from UA-cam shorts. I really respect what he stands for and the value he gives to the world. Even though I'm not super into video game design I still find a lot of his stuff helpful. Grateful to have an interview with two of my favorite creators on youtube right now!
Definitively my favorite episode ever. I learned so much! Thank you both, this was amazing.
This is the best, most informative, and helpful conversation I’ve seen on this channel yet. Will listen to the last third of it again and take notes.
The pure sincerity in Dr K's words at 2:47:52 has shaken me to my core
I say this with the maximum amount of caution, This video has been the most impactful 3 hours in the past 4 years of my life. Thank you both for translating the different languages of nerd and geek back and forth in such an understandable way.
Y'all fucken rock
🤘😁🤘
“Chat wants to see Thors screen. Chat wants to see Thors hair” was so funny to me
I got to that point of video now. It’s hilarious 😂
I love Thor. Started showing up in my feed about a month ago and every video I see of his makes me feel like I can do anything.
100% this just solidified all of the thoughts I had of him beforehand
One of my favourite vids by far. Thor and Dr. K are incredible in this one. Had me smiling the whole time
Love the conversation, in general everything talked about is fascinating. I felt compelled to pause for a second and point out that around the 1 hour mark, dr k entertained the idea of talking about the demoralisation and i got the feeling that he speed ran through that portion and get to the meditation part asap. Because he jist briefly explained the aparant layer of the topic and concluded himself "alright now YOU said you are intereested in the meditation part" and abruptly directed the flow of conversation towards that
Thor: Accidental Monk
What an amazing conversation. The way Dr. K asked for permission to talk about things and Thor's background story were all fascinating to listen to.
It’s weird, but I feel super good listening to you guys talk
This was absolutely amazing, i don't think i've ever enjoyed a 3 hour long video this much, thank you doc!
