I’m not a barber or a stylist but have been cutting my husband’s hair for 24 years. As his hair is thinning some I’ve not been happy with my last few cuts; seems I created lines that I could see in a couple days afterward. This tutorial may be the answer I needed. So happy I discovered you here. I’m going to adopt this technique on his haircut this evening. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing!! Lines can be the result of sections that are too big. But you can also cross check them which means pick up sections in the opposite direction (perpendicular) and check the lines of your section don’t have bumps.
Love this tutorial. I've been cutting my husbands hair with clippers and some scissor work for a few years now. Unfortunately he's in a major depressive episode at the moment, but I'm well equipped when he comes out the other side, as he has hair just like this gentleman! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, I'm very grateful 😊
Im happy the video helps, and my heart goes out to you and your husband, that can´t be easy for either of you, it's good you are learning these skills for him.
He visto muchos videos de corte de cabello y ninguno explica tan bien como tu, agradezco por compartir tus conocimientos transmites muy buena vibra 😊😊😊😊😊😊
One of my favorite vintage SNL bits was Theodoric of York: Medieval Barber 😂 I should have watched this refresher before cutting my husband's hair today, but your previous scissor tutorials taught me well and he was happy with the results (as usual 😄). My biggest challenge is working around his bald spot, but it is doable.
Wow Mike SO nice and fresh scissor cut, and then a clean finishing touch with the trimmer. Every time I watch your work as I’m learning, it’s so extremely satisfying- this is why I believe barbers as well as myself not only learn and refine their skills from you, but we enjoy it immensely, at least for me tremendously. Thank you for helping us all become all we can be. I was wondering if you could maybe do a video tutorial on how to professionally fade beards short to long length beards. Maybe include maintenance of the mustache and beard as well. Wonderful show Mike!! 🙌🏻✨🙏🏻✨🔥
Thanks so much Ericka and merry Christmas to you and your kin. Beards are one thing I’ve never put much focus on, although I probably should. I have a few pretty standard methods of cutting beards. I’m not by any means a beard expert but can certainly share some tips.
@ That is so nice, thank you Mike have same to you, have a blessed Holiday and New Year 🙏🏻✨😊✨🎉 I understand what you mean, and it’s ok, any tips you have will always be amazing. 👏🏻
Dude your videos helped me pass my college course so thank you! Could you maybe do a video on connecting the top with the sides for different haircuts? Much appreciated either way 🖤💜
I’m glad to hear it. And congrats on getting through it. This is a short on block graduation. I always have a section in my videos where I explain the connection like this, but never made a dedicated video on it. Its noted. I watched probably 15 of your scissor-cutting videos so that I could cut my boyfriend's hair and it went great! I will say something I did not expect to happen was accidentally poking him a couple times when doing the scissor over comb sectioning, so maybe it would help other viewers who are learning just if you mention that as a caution. But cutting around the ear went great and he really liked how the haircut came out. I was also wondering if you have any advice for cutting with a cowlick in the back of the head? He has one right in the top back where all his hair comes from if that makes sense.
Yes I do, my next video has it all, the cowlick you describe is what we call a double crown. The next video has the double crown, cow lick on the fringe and nape whorls at the back

Thanks for the video! Question: when I cut my kids hair for a part, without fail after they’ve been wearing it for a couple hours, it always falls down flat. How do you keep the parted side blended well so it looks good in both parted and straight down styles?
The single most important thing is to find the natural parting. If you brush the hair back and let it relax it will fall into its natural parting. If you work using that line then you shouldn’t have any problems. The hair will push apart there without you doing anything.
I cut the hair the way you showed me. However, I cannot comb or lay the hair to the right or left. I have been a barber for 4 months. I haven't had any problems with my clients. But I lost the clients who had this issue. I live in Lithuania. I am looking forward to your help. Thank you. Good luck. Best regards.
Layering and control of the hair will come to you. If the hair is too short it will be difficult to control. So apply these concepts to slightly longer hair. At least as long as is in this video.
I got thinning hair, so how would I ask a barber to cut the top like this or with the same technique? I usually just say a little trim at the top, comb over style. I feel like it's uneven usually..
It was borderline in this haircut whether they weee necessary. I use them to reduce bulk and then move to scissor over comb. Once I get round to the left hand side I often just use the short hair from the back as a guide and complete the work scissor over comb.
When i cut my friends frontal hair(the haor that falls on his forehead), instead of it falling like a fringe, which he wants it looks like bangs all curled over, is this because there is too much weight on the hair on top of that?
All of my member only videos are in German. You can find the member section on the UA-cam desktop application. It is cheap to join and there are lots of very good tutorials for all hair types in there.
That’s a great question. I could have done that, but sometimes I like to reduce the bulk, if the hair is too long it collapses when you do scissor over comb.

Never tire of these videos. Such great education. Improving with the scissor over comb cutting slowly but surely.
Thanks Mike 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it thanks Jo. I am also working on another video coming up soon that has a number of challenges in it.

I feel his pain with the bald spot. Thin hair is quite difficult. But good for you for learning you will get better the more you do

Super. Congratulations. Happy new year.
Same to you🥳

Curioso como é possível ouvir o barulho da tesoura cortando mas não se ouve o que o cliente fala 😂 😂😂. Obrigada, tenho aprendido muito com você!
😁😉 it took a bit of creative editing to make that magic happen 😁

Any reason why you abandoned the vertical sections on the back and left side of his head?
It was borderline in this haircut whether they weee necessary. I use them to reduce bulk and then move to scissor over comb. Once I get round to the left hand side I often just use the short hair from the back as a guide and complete the work scissor over comb.

Possibly. It could be that it’s is still too long or you need to layer the hair more or it’s possible it is his hair type.
@theoneminutebarber thanks!

Why didn't you just do scissor under comb the whole hair cut? Why pull out square first?
That’s a great question. I could have done that, but sometimes I like to reduce the bulk, if the hair is too long it collapses when you do scissor over comb.
Were you always a barber?
Pretty much, I did do a bit of retail work just after school but not for long.
Спасибо за мастер класс ! 👍🤝

Have you ever cut a client's ear in the past?
Unfortunately yes. It happened when I was a trainee, this is why I emphasise protecting the ear so much.
