I picked up a lock set installation kit a few years ago, and the little mandrel welded itself to the holesaw the first time I used it. It sat in a drawer until I saw this (three years) and now I can actually use the 1" holesaw that came with the kit. Thanks!
Thanks. Worked like a charm. Struggled for an hour including lots of profanity before finding this vid. Came apart with one quick pull of the impact drill trigger.
Struggled with it for over an hour becoming very frustrated then I saw your video and with the use of the impact driver it came off in about 5 seconds! Thanks again!
I really needed my mandrel back from my hole saw. You really saved the day. I wouldn't have ever thought of doing this even though I also had an impact driver out. *Immediately* loosened up. Thank you!
Found this video because I had this problem. I don't have the impact driver nor the brass to pull this off in my hands but I had the idea for another solution and it worked for me just now. I removed the drill bit, stuck the mandrel into a drill, put it in reverse, applied pressure onto a scrap piece of wood and squeezed the trigger. If the drill bit isn't easy/possible to remove you'd just have to drill into the wood until the hole saw hits the surface, then put it in reverse.
I don’t have an impact driver but do have a ratchet set. I thought that I would give it a try since I really didn’t want to buy a tool I might use once. Miraculously, it got the drill bit/mandrel out of the 6” hole saw blade without much effort. Thanks so much for giving me the idea!
Amazing tip! Thanks a bunch! Finally found a use for that impact driver I bought years ago! I was struggling to loosen it with a drill and a rubber strap wrench, so was amazed how easy your method was.
John... ...This is great! If I ever get up near your area, I'm buyin' you a beer for this trick! I had three hole saws stuck like that and like you I had given up. Saw this video, went to the garage and tried your method. Worked like a charm! Maybe I'll buy you three beers!
🤩 Thank You! That Hole Saw Tip Worked for me but.... It sho' gave me some Johnny Carson _De Ja Vu_ vibes! The Late Great Comedian/Entertainer *Johnny* *Carson* -- _"Hi Folks! Ever see a man walk into Kaiser Hospital Emergency with a sudden snapped wrist?"_
Dude! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your video. I researched this kit extensively prior to purchasing it. I read a lot of reviews and several people stated they had this problem. However, not everyone had this problem so I figured I’d roll the dice and purchase it anyway. It worked well, however I wasn’t one of the lucky ones. The whole saw was stuck on there pretty good. Using all of my strength, I couldn’t budge it. I didn’t know what I was going to do. So I decided to Google it. Luckily for me, your video was the first one I watched. I went and got my impact driver and put the proper attachment on it to fit the bit and it worked in about a second. I couldn’t stop laughing at how easy it was versus all of my veins popping out of my head as I strained with all of my might. 🤣 Anyway, thank you again! P.S. I read that some people stated that they don’t own an impact driver. I don’t expect everyone to own one of these, but I’m very surprised that anyone that would be using this Ruobi tool to cut holes in a door doesn’t own one. It’s a MUST HAVE tool.
I had the same problem, as with the yellow one in the video. But I had to us a 1/2 drive impact drill. About 3 trigger pulls and it was done. Great idea, with great results.
This worked perfectly; thanks so much! I can't believe how well this worked. I definitely recommend putting the driver on the lowest speed and being a little timid at first to make sure you can handle the saw. Also, be sure to feather the driver, don't just hold down the trigger; that'll keep things from spinning out of control.
Wow!! I was cranking on the damn thing for 20 mins and almost sprained my wrist with the drill in reverse. I TRIED THIS WITH THE IMPACT AND IN 1 SECOND IT WAS OFF !! THANK YOU.
Thanks for sharing this! It works very well. I had a 4 1/2 in. hole saw with the arbor stuck in it and I removed it within seconds without any frustration.
Holy smokes! Wish I would have seen this 8 years ago! As a sparky, we use hole saws all the time and them getting stuck on the arbor can really ruin your day sometimes.
Great advice....life saver. I used this with a really fused mandrel... Worked like a charm. I'd just add, best to wear a leather work glove on the hand holding the hole saw blade.
Thanks for the tip. It didn't work until I tried it without an adaptor and just inserted the nut socket directly. Then it worked immediately. Thanks again.
great tip; thanks! I tried heating it, penatrating oil, tapping it and just plan reefin' on it... then I found this and it was off in a few seconds! Thank You!!!
Man you just saved my day with this video, thanks! I have been sitting here with a vice and a strap wrench pulling my hair out trying to get this hole saw bit unstuck, did you what you said using my impact and it's off in 5 minutes.
i dont have an impact drill, and its really hard to remove the mandrel i put the holesaw in a vice with a rubber fanbelt between the holesaw and vice to stop slipping, then get a spanner on it you really need to buy a mandrel with the 2 pins that fit the holesaw to prevent this
@jpheisz Starret's version has the 2 pins slide straight down into the top disc of the hole saw. The hole saw disc doesn't tighten on the arbor because the pins and threads are coordinated so the pins mesh in the holes just as the disc touches the arbor.
Thank you! After PB Blaster & various other unsuccessful ideas, this worked in less than a second! And, I have girly hands since I'm a girl, albeit a middle aged one!
I also recommend a little tapping with a hammer, just tapping, on the hole saw first. I used a pair of 12" channel lock pliers to hold on to the hole saw, and it came off no problem using your meathod
I’ve got a brand new one and this won’t work even putting hole saw on a vice. What’s the point in buying them to change out cutters if they lock them that tight? I should’ve mentioned I ended up using a mapp torch to heat up the hole saw. They probably use loctite on the threads. It appears to have taken threads off with it. I bought this hole saw 2 weeks ago from hone depot.
I had two stuck, a small one and a large one. It didn't seem like it would work and even the motor on my hammer drill started smoking. I sprayed some WD-40 type stuff on them and worked it gently and all of a sudden they came off so easily that I was amazed.
Thank you so fucking much. Funny how the big companies that manufacture these things don't do as good a job supporting their products as you did with this video alone.
Thank you for that. My problem is that I can get the drill bit out but now the adapter is stuck on the core saw and I can’t use the adapter on other core saws because of this. Do you know how I could fix that please?
Thank you for this too. I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of it! Here I was with a 4.5" hole saw stuck on the bit for 3 years! I was almost ready to just buy another bit. Your tip worked within 5 seconds. Thanks again.
Gah mine’s been stuck for weeks. This took like 3 seconds. Thanks!!! (I probably should have held onto it with something besides bare hands but all fingers are accounted for.)
Thank you! I struggled with this for almost 40 minutes. Impact driver took about 30 seconds!
I picked up a lock set installation kit a few years ago, and the little mandrel welded itself to the holesaw the first time I used it. It sat in a drawer until I saw this (three years) and now I can actually use the 1" holesaw that came with the kit. Thanks!

Hit that thing for so long with the impact gun and was convinced it was stuck forever...then it JUST BROKE FREE. Thank you so much for this.
I don’t have an impact driver but do have a ratchet set. I thought that I would give it a try since I really didn’t want to buy a tool I might use once. Miraculously, it got the drill bit/mandrel out of the 6” hole saw blade without much effort. Thanks so much for giving me the idea!
John,
Thank you so so much, I thought I had tried everything, but never thought to do this! Worked perfectly! Thank you again
So simple its brilliant, Thanks John.
You saved me from buying yet another mandrel.
Amazing tip! Thanks a bunch! Finally found a use for that impact driver I bought years ago! I was struggling to loosen it with a drill and a rubber strap wrench, so was amazed how easy your method was.
John...
...This is great!

Worked like a charm!
Maybe I'll buy you three beers!
The truly helpful and informative youtube videos are so few. Thanks for the one in a million.
You Sir are a scholar and a gentleman! Simple fix, but worked like a charm.
I tried everything and was about to set off and buy another one. Literally 2 clicks of the impact driver and it spun off, thank you so much.

Man you just changed the game now I can use my impact as a hole saw all I needed was socket adapter thanks 🔥
Was going crazy with this problem. Impact wrench nailed it.
You rock!
This is so completely brilliant. I have already used this 3 times today.
I had the same problem, as with the yellow one in the video. But I had to us a 1/2 drive impact drill. About 3 trigger pulls and it was done. Great idea, with great results.
Boody hell it worked! Thank you very much John! Cost me £5 to get a socket adapter set but now I have a socket adapter set as well. Cheers!
Thank you!!!!! You're a life saver! Keep up the awesome videos!
Sir, I love you!!!!!!! You can't imagine what a help this video was!
Saved my holesaw and allowed me to continue my project. Thanks for the video
That was awesome. So simple, and just saved me a lot of headache. Thanks!
This worked perfectly; thanks so much! I can't believe how well this worked.

John - THANK YOU!!! I figured UA-cam had a video that could solve my problem and BAM! Just like that.
Wow!! I was cranking on the damn thing for 20 mins and almost sprained my wrist with the drill in reverse. I TRIED THIS WITH THE IMPACT AND IN 1 SECOND IT WAS OFF !! THANK YOU.
Oh man, struggled for half hour. Tried this took me a second!! Ty!!
THANKS SO MUCH !!! I just didn't know how to do this. Happy weekend. !! 😀
Brilliant! Worked like a charm. Thank you, sir!
Thanks for sharing this! It works very well. I had a 4 1/2 in. hole saw with the arbor stuck in it and I removed it within seconds without any frustration.
Thanks man. Got it. It's been on there for about 3 years. Popped right off.
Had stuck hole saw. Almost gave up. Your impact driver trick worked instantly. Thanks!
Worked like a charm! Thank you for this awesome video!!
Genius suggestion: Worked perfectly. Thanks for sharing
Holy smokes! Wish I would have seen this 8 years ago! As a sparky, we use hole saws all the time and them getting stuck on the arbor can really ruin your day sometimes.
Thank you this was exactly the info I needed and it worked like a charm
I bloody well hope this helps me! Can't wait to try and unstick that bugger tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you so much sir! It’s 2020 and worked perfectly for Milwaukee hole dozer. Thanks
Great advice....life saver. I used this with a really fused mandrel... Worked like a charm. I'd just add, best to wear a leather work glove on the hand holding the hole saw blade.
Oh joy, this tip was brilliant, thank you so much, great video!
Short and right to the point, thank you😊
Thanks for the tip. It didn't work until I tried it without an adaptor and just inserted the nut socket directly. Then it worked immediately. Thanks again.
Yep! This did it! Thanks so much! My Craftsman hole saw took a 11/32" socket. It got unstuck in about 3 seconds. Thanks!
Omg thank you. Impact driver works. I almost gave up before i saw this video.
THank you so much! Just saved me hours of work!
Genius! Worked like a charm!!!
Dropped my stress level installing a lockset by 1000%. Thanks a million.
I had the same problem and didn't know what to do. Now I know!! Thanks
great tip; thanks! I tried heating it, penatrating oil, tapping it and just plan reefin' on it... then I found this and it was off in a few seconds! Thank You!!!
Thank you for sharing that...very helpful.
Always cautious, this worked a treat for me. I wish had watched days ago
I risked injury doing it the wrong way, but this worked.
Worked great! Thanks for the tip.
Great trick, amazing how easy it came off.
THIS was genius! THANK YOU!
Many Thanks.. i also struggled with this for 40 mins and it only took me 15 seconds with impact driver get it off. Thank You so much..
Thanks for the video. Just used a manual socket set without the drill, but still came off easily. Don't know why I didn't think of sockets before.
Thanks John, very helpful!
Thanks bro, it worked! Saved me about $10
This helped me big time!!! Thanks so much!
great advice on an old video, worked perfect!
Thanks for the easy and SAFE technique.
Great suggestion, worked perfectly.
Lifesaver! Took not even 5 seconds, spent more time looking for my adapter lol
Worked like a charm!
Excellent tip! I think Starret makes the arbors that have the pins. They are the best, I've never got one of them stuck.
Did the trick for me. Thank You!
Thank you! This was great help
Thank you so much. Saved my ass. Once I found a 8mm socket. Then needed to dig for a 1/4 socket adapter for impact
Works its magic in seconds. Thanks!
Wow, seriously? Just switch to an impact driver? And it worked like butter. Thank you!
Awesome! Saved me a 20 mile round trip to HD and the purchase of a new mandrel. Cheers!
You are a life saver.
Man you just saved my day with this video, thanks! I have been sitting here with a vice and a strap wrench pulling my hair out trying to get this hole saw bit unstuck, did you what you said using my impact and it's off in 5 minutes.
Good tip!thanks for sharing!
Brilliant, bloody brilliant!
great video. thanks man. helped me tons
Good job, worked first time
i dont have an impact drill, and its really hard to remove the mandrel
i put the holesaw in a vice with a rubber fanbelt between the holesaw and vice to stop slipping, then get a spanner on it
you really need to buy a mandrel with the 2 pins that fit the holesaw to prevent this

I also recommend a little tapping with a hammer, just tapping, on the hole saw first. I used a pair of 12" channel lock pliers to hold on to the hole saw, and it came off no problem using your meathod
Fantastic tip, thanks
Worked perfectly, many thanks for solving my issue. Common sense would say don’t hold it by the cutting teath
Thanks so much! This works great!!
Worked well, thanks.

Great tip. thanks for the post!
before I put them together I put a piece of solder between saw and mandrel and presto never have a stuck hole saw/ mandrel again.
Thank you for that. My problem is that I can get the drill bit out but now the adapter is stuck on the core saw and I can’t use the adapter on other core saws because of this. Do you know how I could fix that please?
This just saved my ass! Thanks for posting.
Thanks!!!
