I'm pretty far from what you'd call a Rolex fan, but I've always really liked the milgauss. It's quirky and interesting and that crystal is super cool. In truth, if I were going to consider a Rolex at any point, I'd have the milgauss pretty high on the list.
Unfortunately Rolex just discontinued the Milgauss.
the OG milgauss is one of the rarest Rolexes on the market I believe. cool watches i agree. even the newer ones are quite cool
Same tbh
Buy what you like and will wear. And you can get a milgauss on the used market no problem.
@@RichardMarecek used market no problem.
I love the milgauss. The only watch I'd avoid on that list is the Hublot, it just looks pointless.

That Carrera Is gorgeus however
I found it refreshingly subtle and well done
Watchfinder convinced me to purchase the Casio G-shock Rainbow Mountain (and I love it, even though i don't wear it much 😅)
@@jan.lotvall dude they are beautiful tho
I've just adopted a one watch per year policy. That way I've got a whole year to save and research, so I know that when my birthday comes around which watch I can't get out of my head.
Good for you mate!! Seriously. I can’t do it 🤷🏼♂️
Baller. I can do one every 5 years given my taste
I like this … and I approve 😂
I got to two per month, with the help of a loving wife and her menacing shotgun...
I hope your birthday is not the weeks after watches and wonders, lol.
The Milgauss is one of the few Rolexes I would consider actually.
You could always buy the watch you don’t want from watch finder at 15% above market price 😂
hahaha
They let you make offers and 0% finance over twelve months, very very few places that let you do that for what it’s worth
@@Resch72113 the company i just bought my first watch from does this.
@@Megatraum504 who’s that?
@@Resch72113 Christopher Ward.
Please, show me a half price milgauss. I would buy it right now.
OK, so I guess you won't be in my Milgauss owners club. That's your loss because it is so esthetically pleasing to see.
It has a brilliantly polished case, middle links & link sides, a simply beautiful blue sunray dial, a whimsical orange lightning bolt seconds hand AND that dazzling "glace verte" green sapphire crystal! Whilst one can't *see it* owing to the solid case back, there's also the interior second soft iron case shielding the movement from magnetism so the wearer can *feel it!* That weight is balanced by the weight of the solid link bracelet and machined clasp so the weight is very well distributed around the wrist.
When all of these disparate elements are seen together as one whole work of mechanical horological design, it's a positively stunning image. When the sun shines on my Milgauss one cannot help looking at all of the magnificent reflections sparkling off of its brilliant polished surfaces; it's a light-show. If you choose to miss out on its brilliance that's your choice but you are the poorer for it. Perhaps living in the UK and missing ample sunshine has robbed you of this watch's party piece.
The only watch to avoid is the one you really cannot afford to buy. Everything else will, over time, either delight or disappointment. I reckon my collection is roughly 50/50 for that.
Entertaining and thought provoking as always though. Thanks.
Those are the best kind
To buy
I am confused. I am being told to avoid these watches. But i am seeing shown some of the most beautifull watches in the world, Grand Seiko, Heuer Carrera, even the Rolex Milgaus has its charm (dont know why everybody seem to hate it). Maybe some reverse psychology?
Milgauss is gorgeous. Black or blue with GV …I like black better but both are excellent.
You’re nuts on the milgauss. It’s climbed in value and will be an incredible collector piece with the green glass in the future
That Milgauss is beautiful! I love its lighting bolt seconds hands.
No idea what you are talking about with z blue milgauss. I might be biased because I am wearing one right now, but it is an amazing watch and is my favorite in my collection. When the sun hits this dial, it looks even more stunning. Proportions are perfect. It's unique so not every other person has one like a sub. I was in Vegas recently and for the first time in my life, I saw one in the wild at my poker table. The guy loved his too lol. Now that it is finally discounted, it will be worth 20k in no time.
The Milgauss does not belong on this list.
How to get rid of old inventory
I like the Milgaus. If I buy a Rolex one day it will be probably a Milgaus. The second hand is just magic.
WHAT?! The second hand is ridilously horrible. A stupid lightning like a childrens watch. Milgauss is ugly AF, but suit yourself...
@@wdrvng I don't wear boring watches. I'd go with a Snoopy Omega or a Richard Mille instead of a boring DayDate or similar.
@@snuups Let me guess, you also have a gaming chair in your living room?
@@wdrvng Absolutely not. I have no gaming chair nor a living room. I practically live in my company. I am to old for uncomfortable gaming chairs. way to old.
@@snuups so get a comfortable one I knew a guy named pienz chen who was a immigrant from china I served with him in the navy. Kinda crazy how it’s literally in your name
I know what your doing here!! You’re taking a watch everyone loves, the Milgauss, and pretending its not so just to stir up controversy in the comment section to get more engagement… touché talking hands, touché!
Love the Milgauss hopefully it will come back in the coming years
The Milgauus has more character and charisma than many ROLEX watches
Dude, I LOVE the Milgauss!
I've genuinely become convinced that most people in this hobby simply are incapable of seeing the Milgauss true brilliance. Thanks for keeping prices somewhat reasonable (compared to other Rolex models) for those amongst us who have been enlightened and see this beauty for what it truly is, the best watch Rolex ever produced.
Honestly, seek one out in person, that green crystal defines the word "mesmerizing" like few other watch components and simply cannot come across via video or photo.
I like the Milgauss and think it's a technically good watch, but I wouldn't say it's the best Rolex ever. I think that has to be the Sky Dweller.
Other than the crystal what else do you like about it? Obviously not all watches are for everyone but i can't say I'm a huge fan (then again I don't like the design of a lot of rolex watches)
Dial looks way too small in that obnoxiously bulbous case and the movement is old and outdated. Into the trash heap it goes as expected
Close ups did it no favors lol
The milgauss was beautiful to me 15 years ago and has grown on me ever since.
Avoid (at least be suspicious of) the watch that “checks all the boxes”. There’s got to be something deeper that draws you in than the specs. Usually the watches I fall for fail to check a box or two, but there’s just something I can’t resist.
Yet the milgaus will go up and up and up because they have discontinued it. Same as the ETA Tudor Black bays
Watchfinder, please don't ever change the music, its a visceral reminder of the novelty and mystery that many of us associate with the industry
Do you know the title of the melody?
Hate hublots, liked the heuer, but I just love the blue dial Milgauss
Still love the milgauss. That lighting bolt does it for me
If the Milgauss is a watch to avoid at all costs then why is Watchfinder selling them?? And at a considerable premium may I add.
I’ve got a omega seamaster and a Tudor black bay and looking at a 2021 speedmaster but budget won’t allow me so happy with what I’ve got I’m a realist money don’t come easy as a mechanic
Don't fall for it. If you like the Milgauss get it now, while it's still relatively entry level after the discontinuation. Coming from this channel, this is Diliberate FUD. It's atrocious and absolutely uncalled for. Solid movement, Simple straightforward class. The best entry level bang for your buck.
I don’t get why people dislike the Milgauss?
I have TWO Milgauss and I'd buy two more. Coolest Rolex ever... Grail watch: 1019. One day...
You are the Jeremy Clarkson of the watchworld. 99% of the words/time dedicated for building up the climax of the 1% dedicated to the watch you present. And I love you both!
I didn't even want to but a watch, but was just looking.. then I saw the Omega Seamaster Railmaster in Denim that first drove me to the AD, but it was too expensive. I looked at the Aqua Terra, but settled later on the original Seamaster. Anyways. I saw the Railmaster for a price that was 35% off retail, I couldn't resist.
I bought it, and couldn't be happier.
When the Railmasters Denim first came out, I loved it too. I wasn't sure how much I would love it down the road. I bought a Chinese homage to try it out. I enjoyed it for a while but eventually decided against buying the real one. I'm now thinking I will get a Black Bay Pro. I need a date on a daily watch.
Good for you, MT. Enjoy...
@@lancehatch4475 wow! I didn't think there would be a homage. I took it off the denim stap and put it on a tan leather nato, and now it really pops.
WoW literally had the same experience with a antique 1967 omega sea master. It’s just so pretty and rare
rolex, times, hublot, invicta, seiko
Z-blue Milgauss on sale? Have you checked the prices lately?
Actually thinking about one more Milgauss to my collection since it's going extinct, got one of the older models atm.
The Moon Swatch is to avoid. I love the Mission to Mars. But, in the Grey Market it's too expensive. So I bought the Pagani Design Mission to Mars version and I JUST LOVE THAT WATCH! It cost me a cool 88 bucks shipped, has a Sapphire Crystal, a Seiko Movement and cheap band. It's a perfect homage and better quality.
The scripts for your videos are just amazing. Thanks!
I've talked to people who said that they couldn't afford the watch that they really want so they have to settle for something that they could afford at the time. I've simply asked them to reconsider and save until they can comfortably afford the watch their hearts desire. Just wait until you can afford to get what you want. Better to be without a watch that you don't truly want than to have a compromise that you wind up putting in the box and no longer sees the light of day.
What if i want a richard mille?
milgauss price cheap now? what are u talking about, where can i get a bargain?
I have alot of watches. I really like all of them, but I only love one. My Tudor Pelagos. I saw it, and thought it too pricey for me, but I waited, saved up, bought an intermediate substitute, then one day followed my heart and signed on the dotted line. It's my favourite. But I still like every other watch, and I don't regret anything! With watches, you always have some kind of exit route.
I'd bet in the future the milgauss is highly sought after.
ugh, I really like the Milgauss but that second hand is the killer (for me).
same
For me that brings it together. Gives it a athletic look
Agreed, it turns simplicity and class into something I’d see on Invicta
Apart from the Hublot, all the rest are almost irresistible
. But not pulling the trigger in times gone by for much much less MONEY… makes it harder to carelessly splash now. pain not to have them, and more pain to have…
“It’s a coat of arms, make sure it’s representing you”.
Absolute, beautiful genius.
The Milgauss is nice but that seconds hands is a disaster. 3:07, the Carrrera 4:35 is perfectly fine, the IWC is nice enough 5:54 and the GS is bland if not 🥱 7:27
Why is the Milgauss unpopular? It’s not a hype model that the flippers can roll into an immediate 50% profit. An enthusiast who likes it, bought one, and enjoys wearing it is a different demographic altogether. If, on the other hand, you really wanted a Submariner, but “settled” for a Milgauss, that’s a mistake in my opinion. Don’t get sucked in by the “affordable substitute” for the watch you want. No alternative will scratch the itch.
I finally bought a watch 1 year after I stubbled across this channel. It was a watch that was featured o this channel. It was a watch that spoke to me and I wouldn't necessarily have found it otherwise. So I broke the last rule. I have had the watch 2 months now and I am still happy with it.
Which one
Yeah which one!
Yes which one son
You didn’t break the last “rule”. The flip side is don’t exclude a watch _just_ because some influencer “told” you to get it. If it spoke to you then it doesn’t matter where you found it. Unless it was the funny farm, where admitting watches speak to you is frowned upon.
Which one homie?
My problem with the Milgauss is that for a watch with gauss in its name it’s only rated up to 1000. Meanwhile the Omega Seamaster 300 is rated at up to 15,000 gauss, despite being a diver and being far less expensive. 1000 gauss is nothing, might as well be zero
Well.... not sure why show B-roll of a Grand Seiko and not say anything about it. GS is an excellent watch brand in my opinion. To each his own
Tested the milgauss. Really do like the feel of it. Round and bulky. Scratch magnet got SD43 instead. Never regret.
The Milgauss is the only Rolex I would ever buy, and perhaps the 1908. Everything else from Rolex is just "look at me I'm rich".
lol i hardly get that vibe from the watches themselves. Maybe the hype crowd who buys them to flex.
how can you not say the same for GS?
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Engine Turned Bezel Steel Vintage Mens Watch 1007 is an understated vintage beauty
You make wonderful videos. But to tell someone to avoid a watch simply cause YOU don’t like it, is absurd. My Milgauss is my fav in my collection. I own a Speedy, Batgirl, and a sub as well. I stare at my Milgauss more when it’s on my wrist than any other watch. The colors change all the time depending on the lighting. The blue along with the green and orange is such an amazing color combination. Not to mention the value has increased tremendously since it’s been discontinued. So why should people avoid the Milgauss?
That GS is beautiful
Avoid the watch you won't wear, and the one you can't afford (or service). Trying to live by those rules, it's hard.
Tell me about it, Tom...
I actually really like the Milgaus. I'd never buy it, but it's a nice looking watch with a lot of contrast.
I love my Big Bang, it was my first watch. Don’t care what the others guy says. The GS is also an amazing watch. My wife thanks you. I thank you. Thanks
Let’s be real. Despite all the Hublot hate on UA-cam not many watches standout like the Big Bang in person
@@arthur-zhuk exactly
Most Hublot are eye sores but the OG BB is passable.
@@spittinvenom9843 You really can't say that when you have a Shelby Mustang emblem as your pfp...
@@arthur-zhuk it’s a Shelby, you’re comparing the cobra 🐍 of the most sought after muscle car to the disgrace that is a Hublot BB? It’s a standout because it’s so f n brutal on the eyes. This dumb post brought to you by the Sesame Street letter C. 🤡
I think most of us watch addicts are drawn to the journey of watch collection not the actual product. That is way we can't stop no matter how many watches we end up buying and some of it just sits there without getting used. I recall selling so many watches that did not make it on my wrest not once...
I don’t get why you’re not a fan of the Milgauss
Bashing Milgauss, the one I loved before it was known. We need to have a serious conversation Mr Andrew 😂
Horological snobbery is reserved for fools who need to be told what to buy as opposed to discovering, nurturing, and enjoying the hobby as a passion.
There is literally no requirement whatsoever to have a watch with a +/- 1 second variation, because the overriding and vast majority will never do anything that requires such accuracy which cannot be compensated for by setting a watch a minute or two ahead.
And for those who need perfection to the nth degree, they get governing body approved timing pieces as tested and qualified for said specification.
So, to answer the question about which watch to avoid and which to buy;
1. Don't buy anything you can't afford;
2. Don't buy anything because someone else told you so;
3. Don't buy anything as a collector's item on the assumption that it will appreciate in value and pay you back dividends [they NEVER do];
And,
4. Only buy something you genuinely connect with, when you can afford it, and irrespective of brand or materials used.
Also - just because someone doesn't like it, it doesn't mean you can't. Horology is a hobby; therefore, enjoy it.
So which ones do we avoid?
Some good advice here. I nearly bought an automatic prx……not the most expensive watch in the world I’ll agree - but the hype around it is/was crazy. I thought I’d have one until I saw it. Not for me. 🤷 I actually prefer the gentleman - for similar price range. Meh - everyone’s tastes and affordability levels are different. Good thing too 😜
Solidarity to all comrades wearing a millgause right now
If only I could afford one! Can I have virtual solidarity? Is that even a thing?...
Things are getting clickbaity
They've always been thus. This isn't even the first video they've done on this topic.
i still like the video tho, idc if it's kinda clickbaity
I really want that GS.
Many thanks my therapist. Great video
Nizar
So which watch should I buy?
Clock watch
The one you've researched, took your time over, taken time to hone your taste, and can actually afford ,so essentially, the one that you give a f*** about, not some UA-cam 'guru's', take on what hot, what's not !! (By the way, they sell time pieces, so these are the last people you trust, trust your gut, it won't lie to you or profit.)😅
@@patrickol4300 Well said, Patrick. 👍
All of them.
that Milgauss was fuego imo
you will regret including the Milgauss...trust me...it's a modern classic
Nothing wrong with Grand Seiko , their amongst the best, but just don't buy a quartz one!
Exceptional content. I couldn’t agree more with the last advice. Personally, I found that GS snowflake very attractive in your videos, but when I tried it on the wrist, it just didn’t feel right. I could easily tell many aspects that I don’t like. I was very lucky to own a JLC master control calendar afterwards, it was love at first sight, and I still think it is perfect today.
Ooooh, how I love the Milgauss AND that Carrera 🏁
I like the milgauss it’s actually one of my grail watches
Those misaligned case screws on the Hublot drive me insane.
Better than royal oak fake screws imo
every time I see the wonky screws i wonder what other horrors hide inside, they must only do the face screws on Friday afternoon.
The thing is I love Milgauss out of all Rolex offerings the most. You could tempt me with every single watch Rolex offers in their line-up and I'd still take Millgauss reference 116400GV because I love the green sapphire crystal and that no date dial is just absolutely mint.
watches that are not quartz are what i won't buy, the idea that quartz watches won't increase in value over time is just wrong, they might not go big like automatics do but i like the idea of not having to worry about setting one after letting it sit for a while or keeping it on a rotor so it can self wind i like being able to walk over to my dresser and pick out the watch i want to wear put it on and go,
OK, you may not like a particular design/look (like with all manufacturers), but you can’t have it both ways and say Hublot is “subpar” given the materials they use and when a number their pieces utilize for instance a skeletonized version of the Zenith El Primero chronograph movement (also employed in some highly collectible Rolex Daytona models), in addition to in-house movements like the incredibly accurate UNICO and the HUB1201, which was developed over a span of two years specifically for the MECA-10 model with 10 days of power reserve.
I love the design of the rolex milgauss and when they said it i was truly shocked. And the great thing is, it doesn’t cost much compared to other Rolex’s
Yeah, and also thinking that 20 years ago AD were desperately trying to sell them at 1-2k to get rid of stock. But I dig it.
The Milgauss is a fine looking watch that and the Explorer are my favorite Rolexes of which I'm not a fan.
The Hublot is cool, the rest are boring.
Do you honestly think the Milgauss deserves to be shown in a video about watches to avoid and straight after a Hublot?
All the watches shown except for Hublot are beautiful! I’m confused
Ur mom is beautiful ❤❤❤
Avoid any watch just to try and make a statement to others. Get the watch that you really want. This watch is for you.
What’s wrong with that Carrera?🤔
I must admit that I am a little confused... is it an April fool? Is it true? Is it irony? Is it reverse psychology? Is it...? Is it...? ... whatever it is, it is as always entertaining!
The Milgauss is my favorite Rolex. Those overrated chronographs with superfluous subdials are not appealing to me.
Plus, who needs a watch with 1000 m water resistance?. Plan on visiting an oceanic trench some time soon?.
The Milgauss was made, not with the deep sea diver or mountain climber, but with the scientist in mind and was actually tested by CERN at 1000 gauss resistance. Maybe like a typical ceramic magnet you'd get off Amazon. That's a lot for a mechanical watch.
Personally, magnetic fields are more of a concern for me than water resistance. I do not scuba dive, skin dive, deep sea dive, nor do I even shower wearing watch, so why is this underwater pressure resistance such a concern for so many people that it is brought up so often?. Do _that_ many people wear watches deep underwater as an imperative?.
The Milgauss has a great design, especially with the lightning bolt second hand and is the ONLY Rolex with a green-tinted sapphire crystal. Oh, and it doesn't have those gaudy over-sized bezels and redundant subdials.
Of course, whatever I like they stop making, take off the air, or discontinue. Yet more proof I'm always right and the world is wrong.
My guess is that
Judging by the comments section, an awful lot of people completely missed the point.
With amusing results.
One great tip is to buy something that will hold its value. If you end up hating it, you can sell it and get your money back.
That’s an on point review of “everything everywhere all at once” - so intricate and detailed and interesting. But just a little off at the end.
If the Sub or Skydweller had the GV Milgauss dial colour, it could be one of their best sellers.
Sad to see the Milgauss on here and even sadder to see it discontinued. Was saving for one so I could buy it when I graduated my engineering masters. Oh well, maybe something else will come up :/
I think they'll release an updated version next year, pretty sure it's the 70th anniversary. Best of luck on the masters, which field are you in?
@@nash9625 I'm in mech eng, but I've worked mostly in the automated assay field.
Here's hoping they do! Would be stoked
A really sad time for engineers, milgauss discontinued and iwc ingenieur gone really up in price😢
The last one goes the other way around as well, if you like a watch someone else says is bad (but technically still sound) you should get it.
watch to avoid at all costs even if that means the end of the world that watch would be ANY moonswatch
Yep, plastic toy type watch, hyped up by certain people who think it is an Omega! Designed for the rubbish some day!
Literally costs the same price as a beautiful working old omega sea master made with gold to. I was going to get a moonswatch but got omega seamaster from 1967 instead :). At the end of the day all watches are rip offs. Buy what you like. No Rolex is made for over 1k but they sell for 10x that
Can u kindly review the Casio Oceanus watches? I think they are pretty cool but I like to have opinions from others.
5:10 Oh my god!! The reflection of the second hand underneath not being painted makes me want to cry. Imagine purchasing the watch then getting home and realising that.
That was disgusting
Sir, your advice is timeless. Keep up the great work. I laughed at some sections uncontrollably because it is so true...not just with watches.👏👏👏.🙏
The Milgauss is a perfect example, the only thing I can see is that second hand. It doesn't matter what the price a watch you don't want to look at is not great.
Love the GS-do you still own it?
The Milguss is a great looking watch, that and the 50s Explorer are the only Rolex's that are worth it.
So I thought I will find out what watches to avoid but instead i listend for 8 minutes how to shoot squirrels.
"Watches to avoid".

Ok, I get your point.

Best looking watch there without a doubt though
