How do we store the bread at home? Freezer or refrigerator or just outside?

GREAT question! I keep it in the fridge.

I keep mine in the freezer so it doesn't spoil if I don't eat it right away

That looks like Ezekiel Bread so it's supposed to be going in the freezer and you got to pull it out like 5-10 minutes before you're going to eat it to toast

Tip: that oil slick at the top of the nut butter jar? Just turn the jar upside down in the fridge (lid on tight) for 24 hours. Its thoroughly mixed!👍

I do that. Then when I take it out of the fridge I give it a quick stir to make sure the little bit of dry peanut butter at the bottom is mixed in. So good.

My go-to breakfast recipe is pour boiling water onto a bowl of old-fashioned oats (usually 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup), let it sit covered for 5 to 10 minutes, and then add a tablespoon of ricotta cheese and some berries or fruit. Fruit is a must; they add natural sweetness, vitamins, and fiber to the already-healthy oatmeal and keep the flavors versatile! A drizzle of honey (I never go above a teaspoon) if needed, and there you go!

I have almost the same staples but...as you stated, which was incredbly eye opening, we are overloaded with so much information. I overthink the things I have on hand and try to create different recipes that aren't always healthy. So many fabulous ideas, Dani! Thank you for sharing! I too enjoy the sprouted breads especially the sprouted rye from TJ's. My favorite way to serve is to mash together a hard boiled egg, a little dollop of spicy mustard, and an avocado and spread it on the toasted rye bread. Super yummy for lunch or a snack!

Thanks, Dani. Seeing this helps me to refocus and simplify . It helps to see what and how you use these things. I live alone and tend to get in a rut and not make the best choices.
It is so easy to get off track in eating habits especially when the stress of life hits. I may go through this video again with s pen and notebook to make a written planner. The few times of writing out a weekly menu was very helpful and healthful.
Thanks again for the great ideas.

I like to add coleslaw mix into ground beef hot dishes, it’s a low carb way to take the place of rice or noodles! My favorite is ground beef, onions, taco seasoning, diced tomatoes (I use the canned ones) and then stir fry the coleslaw in at the end-so good! I also like peanut butter and apples or celery and peanut butter or cream cheese.

Clean & Delicious Hi Dani! Thank you for your message.
I use a standard pack of desiccated coconut (250-300g I believe) around 200ml of melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt and a few tablespoons of honey for the coconut mixture.
I press the mixture in to a Pyrex dish and melt a thin layer of dark chocolate for the top.
Freeze it for 20-30 mins, take it out of the freezer and cut in to bars. So good! In my opinion it’s just as good as a Bounty bar!

Just discovered your channel and am loving all your content. We are on a very tight grocery budget right now so I can’t buy many of the items you feature. However it does give some great tips I hope to incorporate into my life as I try to get healthier

  • @kd3362
    @kd3362 6 років тому

Another great video Dani! Some of those items are pricey to buy all at once like the nuts (where I live anyways), for example, but we make a point to buy a container/pack of a different nut every grocery trip (twice a month) so we can still afford good healthy options. And because of this we always have different nut options to play around with. This makes grocery shopping/meal planning even more exciting because there’s always something new to incorporate! I think you hit my main snacks, plus more on this list. Thank you!

Great video Dani, thank you! I keep all of those in my pantry/fridge. One of my other staples is tea...bags or loose, esp this time of year. My current fave is the Hot Cinnamon Sunset tea by Harvey & Sons...so warm and comforting, and it doesn’t need any sweetener. I have about 4 cups a day of tea, I drink lots of different kinds. Another staple I always have is frozen fruit...from Aldi or Trader Joe’s usually. Use them to make smoothies.

I really like this video. Simple and delicious and healthy. (It would be perfect with a text list, but that's a lot to ask for I know.) Our family staples you didn't mention are crackers or pretzels, cheeses, baby carrots, and sausages. With a package of sausage, I can whip up lentils and sausage (add water to cook the lentils. Coin slice the sausage maybe. Optional veggies depending on how tired I am), or sauteed cabbage and sausage (often with onions and apples) in about 20 minutes for dinner.

Hi I'm new to your channel and eating cleaner lately and feeling so much better. It's crazy how when I started eating just a little better I gained a lot of control and that obsession with food went away..mbut oddly the passion for cooking and ingredients is still there. I am finding that I get hungry without being famished...I get full without being miserable...and I can feel when I have had enough...better times in the bathroom too. Eating clean just takes the crazy out of the equation...much less to wrangle in terms of cravings and temptation so getting healthier seems much re possible. I think like you have said the trick is to gather your go to ingredients together, buy them in bulk and good quality, and learn what they can do. Your list is great and I use so many of these ingredients too.
My go to fruit is halos or tangerines. I use it in savory cooking as much as eating them out of hand. I juice them into my skillet meal to deglaze the pan. I use them in guacamole instead of lemon or lime....please try this and let me know how much you love it! I also always have eggs, sunflower seeds, avocados, chickpeas, rotini pasta, sugar snap peas, and mini sweets peppers (they look like chiles but they are small bell peppers) and dark chocolate...chicken breasts and beef roast and ground turkey.
I have a question maybe you can help. My big thing I stopped....the single absolute rule I have imposed on myself at least for now...was ditching the diet sodas. Now I'm caffeinating with iced tea through the day and coffee which is a new thing for me as it used to upset my stomach (at least I blamed it) . I love hazelnut coffee but everything's hazelnut flavored is mostly artificial whether it's laced in the coffee beans or in the non dairy creamer...they even have Equal and splenda pellets with hazelnut flavor. Can you suggest a way to get that flavor in a healthful way?

We have many common things, like greek yogurt, bananas, nit butters, nuts, seeds, dried fruit. My staple also is low fat cottage cheese, washed, peeled carrots (to eat fresh, grate into salad or quickly sautee on pan), can't to mention - cinnamon (best spice ever!), himalayan pink salt, canned beans, wheat bran crispbreads, 80%-90%dark chocolate. Snack ideas: greek yogurt+banana+cinnamon ; apple+peanut butter+cinnamon; dates + tahini + cacao nibs. And my tip about seeds is to roast them on a dry pan - pumpkin seeds starts to pop up almost like a popcorn! Roasted seeds for me seem more flavourful and easier to digest.

Thanks for these great ideas. What is your favorite brand of sprouted grain bread? My very favorite mostly guilt-free dessert is using my Yonanas maker. I bought it on Walmart clearance on a whim, but I use it all of the time. It is basically frozen bananas with the consistency of ice cream and my favorite combo is putting in some organic chocolate chips and peanut butter. The machine shaves the chocolate and it mixes thoughout the frozen banana. I also love Ocho organic chocolates on occasion.

I always keep spinach in the fridge as well. That and romaine are the only types of greens that aren't too bitter.

Would you mind sharing what is on your counter and why do you have each of those items on the counter instead of leaving them in the cabinets? Thank you.

The dried fruits I've seen have a lot of sugar in them. Is there a brand that doesn't have so much or are they supposed to? Also, I have high blood pressure so should I be adding sea salt to recipes? Like the avocados? I am excited to try some of these ideas! Thank you!😊

My staples are similar to yours too. Oatmeal, peanut butter, nuts, Kale, canned coconut milk for curries, tofu, soy milk, banana or apples. Loving the six2start series. Great to start off the new year.👍👍

I always have powdered peanut butter. Can't live without it. Good for all cooking and baking. Can also make into butter again with milk or water. To sweeten, add some brown sugar or honey. Powder can be eaten straight as well. Not something I like to do but it's very edible. Lasts a long time.
Also, powdered eggs... great substitute. Never know the difference. Fluffy up some pancakes or something, add a small bit of egg powder. Save the actual eggs for other stuff. Lasts a really long time.

A tip on nut butters. I find it's way too difficult to stir in the oil thats sitting on the top of the jar. I pour all the contents out in a bigger bowl (glass or plastic) and stir in well. Could take up to 20 min. stirring to get the texture smooth and uniform. Place a lid on the bowl and place in the fridge. If you find the nut butter is getting solidified again, place it on the counter for a couple hours and it will get soft and spreadable again.

I looooove also having pre-washed mixed greens. You can take literally any of the staples you mentioned such as berries, dried fruit, nuts, avocados and just throw them on top with your favorite dressing (or just salt/vinegar/olive oil, etc) and it's like an instant salad

I'm a college student cooking for one so inexpensive foods that I can cooking in a multiple of ways and don't have to cook in a big batch are my favorite foods. For me that means oats, long grain and arborio rice, flour and yeast (for pasta, pizza, baked things, or a roux), canned beans and tomatoes, milk, cheese, eggs, frozen chicken breast, frozen pea, baby carrots, broccoli, nuts, and bananas. As im typing this out it sounds like a lot. But most of it stays good for a while and I get variety from what is on sale or in season that week.

Dani, I really need your help. I have been on the stevia train for quite some time. When I went yesterday to get more so I could use it for a baking recipe I decided to read the ingredient list. It seems that they have added things like erythotoyl or inulin (I don't even know what that one is). What happened with just finding stevia packets with just stevia? Or do you know a brand I can be on the look for? Thanks for all you do on youtube land. I love all you do!

Thank you for all the tips! My youngest just turned two and he has allergic colitis from dairy or oats. I feel like that really cuts down on healthy snack ideas. Do you have any recommendations?
