Other teams race and compete, very focused on performance. On Malizia they have lots of fun, enjoy fast sailing, sharing camaraderie and support each other with the best they have. What a crew, what a smart ledarship!!! Also I guess the on-board reporter has a big role on all this 💪💪💪👍👍👍
Don't think and have seen it otherwise on the other 3 boats in this phenomenal race. They all do a phantastic job and share fun and good cameradie. But beeing a german myself I say " Go Malizia, go. And, please, stay safe".
I am still amazed, how far we have come in one lifetime. There is a fleet of racing boats in the southern ocean that sends us video-communication via sattelite every day. The quality of those videos is better than the first movie I ever saw in a cinema (the lion king). The communication is purely thought to be educational/entertainment. It still feels like "the future" to me ;-) Go Malizia, go ocean race! Push the limits! But please stay safe!
Not too mention the drone shots!
When I started sailing on the open ocean we got twice a day a weather forecast per short wave broadcast and as soon as the sky breaks we shot the sun to get an idea about our positioning.
As soon a fog covered the scenery we listened to bells and whistles (literally!) No GPS, AIS, radar, IR cameras, radio, SatCom, weather models, GRID files, electronic sensor network, ...
Today they celebrate a victory together with the shore crew via a video call ...
But for me the crew stands out much more than technology: Affording all the effort for daily reports, footage, ... while you ride the Southern ocean with 50+ wind is exceptional (and while solo sailing Boris does this job with roughly the same performance ....)
This takes my very highest respect!

Plotting dots on a sheet of paper to get a weather system was an advancement lol.
I remember seeing the first Golden Globe yacht race in 1968. On black and white TV, we got occasional brief poor quality film of the boats for a few seconds news coverage. Other than that, small news reports in the newspaper if nothing else happened in sport. I kept the race reports record in my diary. Now it is like science fiction.
This is absolutely thrilling and nerve wrecking and exciting and nail biting to watch! All your different personalities shining through and becoming stronger and stronger on camera, and it is so wonderful and engaging to watch! Big thank you to Antoine for capturing and cutting together all these moments, you really have a hand for taking us all with you on the boat as much as possible! ❤ Amazing shots, craaazy conditions, my Saturday for sure will be centered around updating the tracker and insta and youtube as often as possible! 😁
Boris is the man! He is firing on all cylinders now, using all his expertise. He behaves in a calm manner because he is a gentleman - but he is not calm!

It’s very obvious that you Guys thanks to clever design and construction of the complete yacht can enjoy the sailing far more than the competitors.
This comes down the fact that the yacht do not stress the crew too much so that the latter may feel safe and have the ability to rest which is the same as being able to take well thought through decisions.
I would like to say that Malizia is the future design and the rest is the old.

Wonder what Holcim broke? They have lost more distance than bow design would account for...?
A wipeout (broach) and two broken sail battens at the top of the mainsail. Repaired now but a lot of miles lost.

Deep respect for all the sailors in this leg (which to be honest I was quite a bit worried about), all the circumstances and problems they suffered and solved, and kept racing.
But I love this team, and impressed by the spirit. Thans to the mentioned technology I couldn’t wait to see the next video, and now I’m glued to the tracker…

Watching this while exercising made for an interesting experience, especially with Boris exclaiming to "push it". Been a long time since I have been that motivated during my daily workout routine ;)
Anyways - I wish you the best of luck, arrive safe, sound, and may there be food, drink, and a good shower waiting to welcome you in Brazil (along with your families of course!)
