💥 Team Malizia Breaks The World Monohull 24-Hour Distance Record 💥
Our crew composed of skipper Boris Herrmann, co-skippers Will Harris, Rosalin Kuiper, Yann Eliès and onboard reporter Antoine Auriol have broken the distance record for a monohull, having covered 641.08 nautical miles in 24 hours with an average speed of 26.71 knots!
Leg 5 of The Ocean Race has been a record-breaking one, with Team Holcim-PRB setting the record previously held by 100-foot maxi-monohull Comanche with 640.9 nm. Team Malizia beat their Swiss competitor less than 24 hours later, extending the world record to 641.08 nm.
Winning this record means that Malizia - Seaexplorer broke both the IMOCA and crewed monohull 24-hour distance records.
Leg 5 is expected to finish in Aarhus on Monday, with less than 1,000 nautical miles left to sail.

As I said from the beginning, the Malizia Sea Explorer is the ugliest duck in the Imoca fleet, but it is also the fastest in the world, I'm very happy about that! 👍😍 It also seems to be much more comfortable than the other boats.

You getting hammered by the elements during the beginning of Leg 5 was really difficult to observe, one could truly feel your pain. Now beaming smiles, joy, celebration - just wonderful. A heavy load lifted. ❤❤❤

Averaging close to 27 knots in a monohull is NUTS! Great work, Malizians! I'd love to see polars from the first leg or pre race testing versus now. It seems you guys learned a lot about how Malizia likes to be tweaked and fine tuned in the Southern Ocean. Awesome push!
Yes totally crazy - who would have thought! We have definitely learnt a lot about sailing the boat and of course the new foils that only went in in Alicante. These boats are so technical!
I struggle to keep 28knots over a mile with my windsurf board in heavy conditions….. the IMOCA boats do this daily, just mind boggling….😮🤙🏼🙏🏼

Congrats that is an amazing achievement. On a previous video Boris talked about how hard people (and he as well) had tried for years to break the record but to get to perfect combination of boat, wind speed and direction, seas,etc is almost impossible. Well you guys found those conditions by sailing around the world, don’t understate how big an achievement that is as well, so well done Team Malizia ! I’ll be thinking of you when I hit max speed of 7 knots on my sailboat. Cheers and continued success and safe passage to you. Go Team Malizia!

I kind of repeat myself here but having a crew more or less relaxing and having a party when sailing in 26 knots or so just give the proof of the construction of the yacht itself but foremost the cockpit.
As mentioned before but you can’t underestimate the importance of being dry and having a good sleep and a fairly comfortable place to eat when doing exposed adventures. All of those give you the possibility to make less mistakes and wrong strategies.
I’m not sure all “tough” Ocean Racers like the cockpit “disco” but then again the “How hard can it be” mentality gives victory ✌🏼 😅💙🌊🌬️
Boris statement regarding the construction of Malizia is: Comfort is speed. He is what, 1'90m and is even able to lift his arms. Compared to the other caves which just leaves the feeling that the crew is just a tool to win. And I am sure the other teams look with a jealous eye on MALIZIA, but will never admit doing so.
