    Ah the classic "Barking Dog" sound of the PTU on the A320 series. It comes on to top up the hydraulic pressure in the system. It tends to be heard at times of higher demand on the hydraulic system such as engine start, flaps deployment and landing gear retraction.

    • @taxiviaalfa
      @taxiviaalfa 2 роки тому +1

      I've actually heard it on engine shutdown

    • @blumac9801
      @blumac9801 2 роки тому +5

      @@taxiviaalfa it comes on during shutdown only during a single engine taxi. That’s because only 2 (green & blue) of the 3 hydraulic systems are running on the #1 engine. The power transfer unit will attempt to keep the third hydraulic system powered by transferring power from the #1 engine green system to the #2 engine yellow system. This only occurs when the yellow electric pump is switched off before shutdown of engine 1.

    • @blumac9801
      @blumac9801 2 роки тому +2

      Engine startup does not demand high hydraulic power. The PTU only runs during engine start up as a test to ensure hydraulic power can be transferred between green/yellow in the event of emergency hydraulic loss (such as a single engine failure). The PTU will only run in the event of lowered hydraulic pressure from one system which flap deployment/retraction, gear movement _doesn’t_ normally lead to.

    Let me clear this up to people that don't understand. The PTU activates when one of the three hydraulic systems on the a320 have a difference of 500 psi than the others. The ptu kicks in. I'm not too sure why it lasted for so long after the gear came up, but it's totally normal for it to sound during the gear coming up or down as gear and flaps really strain the hydraulic systems.

    • @noobnugget-zp2cd
      @noobnugget-zp2cd 3 роки тому +7

      Left engine: Green
      Electric middle: Blue
      Right engine: Yellow
      The PTU is installed next to the Yellow hydraulics system. The Yellow hydraulics system transfers it's hydraulics throught PTU to Green hydraulics.
