What Is The Strange Barking Noise Some Airbus Aircraft Make?
Вставка

- Airbus has enjoyed a successful period in the market recently, and the A320 and A330 have become extremely popular in the airline industry. But these jetliners do feature one intriguing quirk. Passengers on the A320 and A330 can expect to hear a barking noise emanating from the plane at some point during their flight! So what is the cause of this unusual barking dog sound?

Back then I heard someone said "Now someone is sawing off the wings" while PTU 😂😂
Lol
it a plane. there r going to be a noise just put on headphone turn the music on... the airline hard insurance... if i die.. they had to paid alot of money to my famliy.. which is not a bad choice..
yess
Yeah I thought it sounds like that
Priceless! Sawing off the wings! LOL
Dog barking? To me it sounds like very fast, very loud windscreen wipers lol
Totalu agree
Yas
True lol
@@leo-yk2wy You mean Totolo btw i think that it sounds like a windscreen wiper
More like a saw
It sounds like someone cutting wood with a saw
I agree, it sounds like someone cutting a piece of plywood with and old fashioned hand saw. Hard to believe fact.....up until the 1950's, if u went to a site where a house was beeing built, u would find at least one guy on the ground who was working his ass off with a hand saw at all times.
YUL Aviation … thank you. Does NOT sound like a dog barking. Agree sawing wood.
I thought the same. Maybe like when done with a hacksaw.
I did a ton of woodworking as a kid and that sound has become incredibly distinctive to me, hearing it makes me instantly think of sawing through wood and it feeling like it's getting nowhere.
That's what I was thinking.
Try flying in the back of a C130, you’ll hear the whole zoo
Any videos?
So like a Rainforest Cafe?
LOL, and smell it too!
I miss flying on military transports.
Whaaaaat? I can't hear what you're saying.
Hi there, ex A320 engineering technical instructor here. A few little facts that weren't really mentioned. The hydraulic systems on the A320 are Green, Yellow and Blue. The PTU is connected between the Green and Yellow Hydraulic Systems and also operates when there is a 500psi differential between the Green and Yellow System. e.g green system drops from 3000psi to 2400psi and yellow is 3000psi the PTU operates. You may also here the PTU when raising the landing gear. This is due to when the valves open on the Green side of the system to pressurize the landing gear actuators there is a drop in pressure as the hydraulic lines need to be pressurized from the valve to the landing gear actuator. The pressure drop is sensed and the PTU operates to increase the green system to 3000psi. once at there is less that a 500psi differential the PTU stops operating.
Sounds more like someone sawing a plywood below plane rather than barking
or possibly a large fan blade rotating .
Ian moseley I would be really worried if it were that 😳
Stick Bug stick bugged lol
Hydraulics are on that's all
Sounds like someone's enjoying the mile high club😂😂
Sounds a bit... friction-y
Lol
Wow just wow
Doggy style
I Rarely Railfan lol
I might be weird, but I love the noises that Airbus's make. That high-pitched whine at the gate is 👌!
That mixed with the smell of jet fuel is absolute heaven
Josh Francis, speaking of jet fuel... in Russia, bears are hooked on going to airports and sniffing jet fuel until they pass out. Are you a Russian bear? You said you love the smell of jet fuel!
TheSpanishPotato damn no need to expose me like that
TheSpanishPotato Nice profile pic. Is that Fury 325?
Same
no that's just the emergency dog in the dog compartment.
this is a tragically underrated comment 😂
Break in case of emergency
The Vulcan bomber actually has a component called the Dog. It is the APU made by Rover, hence dog. And the Ram Air Turbine (the other emergency power source) is the RAT, hence RAT and Dog.
How about “Bark in case of emergency”
PTU test after engine 2 start 👌🏼.
Fun fact, we don't hear it in the cockpit, we only have a memo on the ECAM telling us the test is being performed
@Captain Samuel Aviator We do hear sometimes people clapping upon landing lol
A320 doesn't give us a memo during the test.
@@tonyb8066 wanna bet?
@@Top10Aviation Sure.
Do you hear the buzzsaw noise from the fanblades during takeoff from the cockpit?
Ahh this made me so nostalgic, before the pandemic I usually flew on an a321 once a month or so. The very first time I heard it I was alarmed and asked the flight attendant next to me what it was, she said it was the captain’s ex-wife😂😂 think about that every time now!
Yes, I heard this sound a couple of times. It is not high pitch, fortunately, however of high volume or amplitude, which poses no problem for me.
Ah yes...my two favourite things
Airplanes and dogs
It's not United's I tell you that
Sorry if you don't like this joke
hey RedNightFire remember me? i replied to ur comment on a DJ's aviation video a while back lol
Ismail Ansari Sorry I don’t remember. Sup?
@@rednightfire2655 nothin jus sayin hi cuz i remembered u
hope u get to fly soon since u mentioned u hadn't in many years
Always thought it sounded like they're trying to start the plane but it's got a dead battery
As a flight attendant, I always hear this noise mid cabin on 320, 321, after landing. I always thought it's weird 😁 Pax are looking at me like..."😳"
Ha Ha Ha !!
Only after they shut an engine down. They can eliminate the sound by turning a "y" (yellow system) pump on. Ask them to turn the yellow electric pump on afer they shut the engine down while taxiing. They’ll $hit their pants with your knowledge.🙂🤣
noticed last week a clank, clank, clank noise on a Delta airbus, noisy planes
I don't understand why this only occurs on Airbus but never on Boeing aircrafts.
Every summer I fly A321 and I was wondering what that noise was about😅
Yes, I’ve heard that sound, but I was never worried about it. I always thought it was some sort of test the plane made before taking off, and it looks like I wasn’t too far off.
hmm i thought it was the sound of either flaps or smth too
i ususally tell the passenger next to me thats the pilot sawing some wood to repair a main bulkhead in the cargo hold that tends to weaken
That must make some people terrified
R Alti Nice dad joke
Funniest part is the pilot performing any work on the plane 😂
R Alti, Nice one. Laugh-out-loud stuff . . .
@@dinkleburg6039 you sure know a lot about what pilots do
As someone who always flew on Boeing aircraft for the longest time, believe me when I first heard this sound I freaked out.
I recently made my first flights on Airbus aircraft, and I did hear this sound, and wondered what it was. Thank you for explaining.
Yeah, I have heard it before, it was on a Qatar Airways A319-112 A7-CJA and A7-CJB, first time I heard it, I was like what in the world, I asked the technical staff onboard who told me about the PTU. It was just before pushback tug would push the aircraft from the ramp to the parking area on the airport's outskirts and vise versa when the aircraft was towed back before departure. The pilots also operated the PTU as the aircraft shuts down at the gate though I never heard it in flight. I was working as an Airport Service Agent for QR in SEZ at the time and part of the job was to secure the aircraft. Also got the chance to hear the same thing when they started operating the A330.
The drivers don’t operate the ptu on the gate. You will hear it on shutdown as one of the systems try’s to maintain 3000psi
0:26 Sounds like an old Freightliner starting up.
Sounds kinda like my old W123
That's the sound of making baby planes.
LOL
J.J. Schlachtfeld this comment is underrated !
As cabin crew on A320s, the barking dog is underneath me while I’m doing the safety demo while standing at the overwings. After the demo, I tell the passengers with anxious faces looking at me, “The ground crew forgot to feed the guard dog downstairs. He’s guarding all your suitcases down there.” They’re not anxious anymore 😊
Of course I tell them what it really is when they ask me!
Ah yes simpleflying,
I saw the very same topic video by @Captain Joe
And you guys even explained it quite well! Thankyou!
U may also hear a groaning sound at the gate lounge. That’s the sound of passengers when realising they’re boarding an a320 😂
The A-320 to me is like sitting in a sardine can.
@@CaliforniaFly strange. I've flown A320 and it was OK. 737-800 was a real sardine can, SUPER uncomfortable. Now, the Embraer 190.. that one is really spacious. But like everything, I suppose it all comes down to whatever the airline decides.
Then you hear cheers when they find out they were going to fly a boeing, but it was changed to an AIRBUS.
I have experienced this and its quite frightening on board. I thought it was landing gear retracting post takeoff.
Guy rubbing a bandsaw against the rudder: It's a barking dog noise
Heard this noise before and never really thought anything of it
I’ve had that noise annoyingly ring through my ears during taxiing out of Paris CDG on and EasyJet a320
Thanks for this. The carrier that serves my smaller city doesn't fly Airbuses, and it seems I'm usually on Embraer or Boeing. Recently I was able to fly on an Airbus and indeed, I heard this noise very loudly and for quite a long time. No one around me seemed concerned so I figured it was normal, but I'm happy to learn what it is.
I always thought it was the landing gear raising & lowering since everytime I've heard it, it's been right after takeoff & before landing, so thx for clearing that up. 😉👍👍✌
Heard it on every Airbus flight I've ever made, always just before docking. Always thought it was hydraulics, but now you made it clear. thank you.
Sounds like someone is cutting your flight wings with a saw.. have a safe flight..
I was playing Microsoft flight sim 2020, and was like, "What the heck is that?!"
Same
And given you can't hear it in the cockpit it shouldn't be there in the sim.
Fantastic video, congratulations!
As usual simple and informative👍
As a member of the cabin crew who regularly works on both the A330 and the A319/20, I have had many passengers ask me if a dog is in the cargo. I think you begin to ignore it or drown it out after working on these planes for so long.
When I was young I thought it was the flaps
Me too
A lady's flaps shouldn't make a noise.
@@markfox1545 boeing planes do with their flaps
Yeah, I though it was something to do with hydraulic motors extending or retracting the flaps
@@Noaddedsalt01 - it was a joke, a joke about ladies having flaps on an intimate part of their bodies. Why are you responding to my joke by talking about Boeing aircraft flaps - haven't you had sex with a female?
I love how you guys answered the question I never even knew I wanted to know the answer to...
Many a time that sound had sent shiver down my spine! Thanx for explaining🤗
*Not barking, not wiping, not sawing, its someone's old bed!*
Wait I thought Boeing was meant to Bark and airbus meow 🤣🤣
Nah, boeings go crash
I did hear this sound every time before the plane's going to brake short at the taxiway, and that was my first time riding an A330!
It was an awesome experience!
I've heard this sound dozens of times by now, really cool to know what it is!
Why not pick a different noise?
-K. Pilkington.
Hi, I have heard this many times .. I have almost always heard them on the ground at the gate before push back.. I thought they are trying to start the engine like in a car 🤣. Mahesh, India
I thought the same as well
Great information
I learned this from the book "Cockpit Confidential" which is SUCH an amazing read. Also taught me what the APU is which was a game changer as well! I always thought the whining as you board the plane was just the engines idling...how very wrong I was!
Those in no way sound like barking dogs 😂😂
It's a dog that airlines have to keep in the bay of ever flight in the a320😉
At United, they have to get a new one after every flight.
Its not limited to only 320s btw
@@christopherbiggs4019 Horror at 37,000ft?
Aaah!! Dogs on a Plane!!
@@christopherbiggs4019 yes😂
Thanks for your sharing 👍
as I almost only flew airbus aircrafts in my life, I always thought it was a completly normal phenomenon each plane has. I thought it was the sound of the landing gear retracting and deploying, nice video
That's the best thing about the Airbus.
The A350 has a nice noise when extending/retracting flaps. might seem annoying to some but for me it's like hearing the approach prep.
Meow 737
Dog a320
I've always wondered what made that sound! thank you simple flying!
I usually hear this during landing, and I always thought it sounded like someone manually pumping up the brakes or something lol
Sounds like every teenager's bedroom afterhours.
Which song?
*oof.*
nooo its just someone messing with suitcase zippers( ͡ʘ ͜ʖ ͡ʘ)
That cracked me up!!!
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks, Often thought someone's dog was below :)
Yes! Thank you, I’ve always wondered what that was.
It’s a cat barking duh 🙄
Brock and Effie It’s the dog employed to stop the pilots from touching anything. M.
🐕
Everytime i heard it i thought someone was wiping the windows really loudly
It often seems to happen after or during push back possibly prior to the flaps being deployed into take off position. It could also be the pilots checking out the hydraulic system as part of pre- flight checks.
So good to finally have the answer to a question I have been living with for a long time! Thanks.
It has virtual dog that barks whenever it sees a Boeing in the sky or on the ground :D
You should only be concerned when you hear it going whilst in cruise
I've heard this sound on dozens of flights but have never given it a second thought until now
I traveled so much on adventures in years past that hearing the sounds of the cargo doors being slammed shut and latched brought me instant joy.
Hear it all the time.pretty much guessed that it was hydrolic stuff, but did not know about the PTU. Love making others on the flight feel unconfortable by saying : This noise is not normal.... there must be a problems with the engines... I hope they do not decide to take off anyway... Sometimes they take the risk... ( watch the old lady sitting on the other seat change color...) :D
I always thought it was a couple of passengers doing it in the bathroom!
Yes, and it is good that you pointed in detail her out to the public.....
Finally😂 thank you!:)
PTU
Sounds like people entering the mile high club
Yes, I have sat over the wings of an A320, and more than once I have heard that noise. I thought it was probably something to do with the plane's hydraulic systems keeping up to pressure.
I have heard both noises recognized the 2nd sound but not the barking sound. Now all clear. Thanks
sounds more like somebody is sawing the tail section off
Heard the noise many times on Airbus, the crazy thing is I knew exactly what it was from the sound of it.
It sounds exactly like what it is - a pump operating momentarily to top up pressure. Logic tells you that it would be the hydraulics since these are in high demand during takeoff.
So glad to find this video. I’m such a nervous flyer and I’ve only heard this somewhat recently despite being on many many flights! I was so scared! 🥲
Being with Qantas for many years and solely on Boeing 744 767, it was definitely a learning curve for me when I joined Jetstar and had to learn all the new sounds lol
@simpleflying I have got a question why does the boarding bridge access to the front of the plane, normally first and business class are at the front of the aircraft however don’t you expect to be at the back of the aircraft as you paid extra = safer? So does this mean that the boarding bridge should be at the back?
What a great video, as a regular EasyJet passenger over many years I have often wondered what makes this strange noise, in future I will know.
Thanks for the feedback! - TB
I've heard this sound a few times on IndiGo Airbus A320s. Thank you for this explanation.
I have totally heard this. And I thank you.
Thank you
Thought I needed to bring the plane to the mechanic bc of that weird noise, thanks for the tip!
Yeah actually went to Raleigh to Orlando and heard this noise after landing and before take off.It was slow both times I flew but it was quite annoying as it goes on for like almost 5 minutes or sometimes 10.Cool to know that its just hydraulics doing their magic.
I always wondered what that noise was, I used to be scared of it 😂
Thank you, I never knew where that noise came from.
Always wondered what it was Thanks ,
The first time I heard the sound was on a Spirit A319 (Spirit of Ft. Lauderdale) in Las vegas Prior to take off. On a flight that had been delayed almost 8 hours because of maintenance issues. The sound worried me.
I remember one time landing in Manila on air Asia, after we landed we were stuck on the taxi way for 45 min with this sound going, I love flying and planes, even as a pilot myself I must say it did get annoying though
have only flown twice on 320's, but noticed a large number of noises coming from under the floor. I figured they were all related to control surface actuators on the wing as i was sitting right above it. With all the work that went into designing those aircraft, you'd figure that the engineers would consider it something passengers would rather not be hearing and design the controls differently. One constant noise sounded a bit like landing gear doors banging. Plane had a nice comfortable interior, but the noises were not at all comforting. And I'm used to flying on 737's and some turboprops!
Used to hear this on Bristol to Edinburgh flights on easyjet all the time. Was normally upon departure or landing. Id always assumed it was some sort of bolts locking the landing wheels or something like that.
I was on a a320 today and i heard the ptu prior departure. And when we landed the ptu was going on for a while and then the whining noise too. I was sitting just behing the left wing.
i fly a a320 at IndiGo and it is a very detailed explanation, great work
It never worried me, but I always wondered what it was. Indeed, the first time I heard it I thought it was a dog in the cargo hold! Thanks for the explanation!
IndiGo's flight information card had (idk if they still do) the reason listed for this (also other various noises like the cargo door opening) noise!
As someone who regularly fly on a330, a sound near the wing I regularly pick up when the plane taxi is clanking sound followed by a slight hiss. It does that on a regular basis, I assume it must me something to do with the landing gear.
Thank you this video answers the question of what I heard when I flew to California on a Virgin America flight to San Francisco
