  • Tools required: screwdriver, putty knife, safety goggles, gloves.
We are going to show you how to properly remove and re-install the screen on a sliding glass door. To remove the door screen, you will need to take the screen off the rollers.
Find the screws at the bottom of either side of the screen. Turn this screw clockwise to raise the screen up, and turn it counter clockwise to bring it down. The screen will start to drop, continue until you see the head of the screw. Repeat this procedure on the other side. The wheel will now be in the upright position.
Next, raise the screen and locate the wheels. The wheels are located at either end of the screen. Place the putty knife under the wheel, push in and lift. Once the wheel is up, gently slide the screen towards you.
To re-install the screen, line up the top two wheels back inside the track and push up the screen as high as it will go. Hold the screen out slightly and line up the putty knife with the wheel and slide the screen back into the track. Perform the same action on the other side. Before you operate the screen, it must be adjusted. Using the screwdriver, turn the screw clockwise until you see the screen rise. Repeat the same procedure on the other side.
Check to make sure the screen operates smoothly.

Hunt. If adjusting the bottom two tension screws does not allow full access to the wheels, look for and adjust the top tension screws as well.

Like what many have describe here. I got the ones that are poorly designed. No give on top or bottom to remove the screen door frame. Tried unscrewing all 4 screws (2 top/2 bottom) and still no wiggle room to do anything. Will give props for the service when its still under warranty. Had 12 windows replaced due to the film between the dual pane being defective but I do question the craftsmanship on Milgard products. Sad that a simple screen mesh damage can not be easily repair.

Same here! I can’t get my screen back in. House was built in 2011 and I’ve had MANY windows replaced due to seal issues. I was told there was an issue with the seal manufacturer used at the time so not necessarily a Milgard issue but it is as it’s the third party product they used. I’m hopeful they can replace my screen. I just paid $50 to have it reacreened but can’t get it back in. There is zero wiggle room. Not sure how i even got it out to begin with, to take it to ace hardware for repair!

After 22 years of filling out worker’s comp injury reports, it’s all about liability. So many of injuries were from doing the simplest of things. Just when you think, “You gotta be a stupid clutz to get hurt”…someone gets hurt…being stupid.

I am having a problem getting my sliding screen door out of track , i have all 4 tension screws backed completely out and can't get enough clearance to pull door out of frame, don't want to bend sliding door frame to remove but I don't know how else to get it to come out and I don"t really want to bend track out on frame to remove. Any advise. Thank you

Great explanation on how to retract the bottom rollers. I forgot how to do it after nearly 20 years. Needed to hit one of the adjuster screws with spray rust penetrant before it would move. All good now.

My screen with all the screws loose and while pushed up until the top of the screen is touching the frame still protrudes a quarter inch into the bottom track. There is absolutely no room for a putty knife, nor can I see the wheels. And there is no way to raise the screen further. Is there another type of screen door on a double glass door?
Door was installed in 2005 any comments welcome

Same experience as many of you, the door will not even lift up enough to be able to see the bottom edge of the door. I spoke with Evan at Customer Service and she told me there was not anything she could tell me beyond what the video instructs. Well, that's the definition of insanity, " continuing to repeat the same thing, expecting different results". That and buying a Milgard product. Ever research what its like downstream from the PVC plant? Great product, great customer service!! NOT!!!

No help from Milgard or Milgard Dealer tech or the video on removing the screen door that does not clear the track for removing the screen door. They all want to charge for a service person to come out and assist. I'm not asking them to replace the screen I can do it myself I just can't get the screen door off the track. I believe it is a design issue with the patio door installation not a consumer issue. Milgard tells me they only warrant the screen doors for 1 year, I'm not asking for them to replace it just remove it from the track. I am the original owner, what homeowner test the ability of removing the screen door from the track when purchasing a new house. It's been 15 years and only now I need to change the screen, who would have known the screen door that sits in the frame is defected!! Who would have know in years to come the screen door is not removal able that is terrible product.

I'm so sorry that this video did not help you remove your screen door. The screen is under a 1 year warranty, so, we can send someone out to assist, it's just not covered under the warranty any longer, so, there would be a fee to do so. Let me know if I can assist at social@milgard.com

Hi, were you able to remove the screen? I have the same issue and have not been able to lift the screen out! The customer service will not send anyone out that the warranty covers only the window and not the screen door which is only one yr warranty. I ask if this is a defect in the window casing I should not have to call a dealer and pay for the service of removing the screen door and have to do this every time I need to change my screen. I have removed other screens before so it's not like I don't know how to do this.
