I was close to calling a sliding glass door repairman. I'm usually a diy dude and pretty handy at most things. My glass doors are humongous so I was intimidated not to break the glass or worse. Your video helped me sooooooo much and I really appreciate it. Bought 4 rollers at Lowe's for two of my doors for $18 bucks. Thanks again.

This was the perfect video at the perfect time. I had watched other videos and they all involved taking the door out. My problem was that our door is huge and far too heavy for me to lift out by myself (I've got no one to help me). So, I did this technique yesterday and it turned out great. I must say it was a little scary taking the rails off, but following these instructions gave me the confidence to do it. Thanks for a great tutorial!

Thank you so much I just replaced rollers on sliding door using your instructions I tried before and none of the videos on UA-cam had the type of doors I have. It was very easy without taking the door off. My roller assembly was different it had tabs that stuck into square holes but I just pried the frame enough with a screwdriver and it popped out! I went to ace hardware to find a new assembly but they were all wrong but they had a 2 pack of just the wheels the same size I popped the old one out and the new one in and didn’t have to find the exact one. Once again I thank you 🎉

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to record and post this video! I followed your instructions and it worked great! Once I pulled out one set of the wheels I found a matching one at a local hardware store and bought two sets in order to replace both sets on the lower side of the door. I also noted missing rubber door stops, one of which was jammed into one of the wheels. I found similar ones at the local hardware store and silicon sealed them into place. The door slides so easily now that I swear it's power assisted! The new rubber stoppers mean that the door stops exactly where it should and does not impact the metal frame, now the latch even works better as the closed position is correct. Again, many thanks for taking the time!

I almost started removing both my sliding door and my fixed pane to do the roller replacement (as some other videos showed) but then I decided to look on UA-cam a bit further and came upon your video. This shortcut worked perfectly for me and saved me a ton of time. It also saved me from having to get help from a friend to lift our huge door. Can’t thank you enough. New rollers are just what our slider needed - WD-40 wasn’t cutting it anymore. The old rollers developed flat spots and were caked with dirt and dog hair. Works so much better now.

This is the first comment I ever left on utube cuz it's absolutely a life saver!!! I had already started hammering away at the tracks and thought about just whacking everything because there's just no way to take the 40 years old aluminum door off to replace rollers. I had no idea what rollers were inside so I follow this video and first removed the side frame then used long nose pliers to pull out the old rollers. Used a pry bar to prop up the door to make it easier to pull out the old rollers. The old rollers were Prime Line D1525 with 1 1/2 inch rollers. I actually used D1552 with 1 1/4 inch tandem rollers which I just push into place. Put everything back and the door works like new! I am sure the contractor and his crew would appreciate it when they start remodeling my kitchen in 2 days lol! 6 thumbs up!

Big BIG thanks for this tutorial!!! I had tried fixing my slider a few months ago and another video said I needed to take out the stationary glass AND then the slider. I tried that but then was afraid of possibly breaking the glass. So a few days ago I called a glass guy and he said about $200 to replace the rollers. I had set up an appointment but then happened to find your video. I followed all instructions and was able to replace both rollers for $15! And with a feeling of accomplishment! All the tips helped too, especially making sure the door is lined up with the wall so that it closes correctly. One thing I would add to all your tips (that helped me at least) was when I'm hitting the frame to come off, I was hitting real hard and it wasn't going any further. So I started hitting it slightly further up the frame towards the top and that did it! Thanks again!!

  • @williedjs

A huge thanks for this video. I’ve been needing to do this for at least the last two years. More recently my glass sliding door feels like a lead weight. I had a handyman come out and look at it and he said I just needed to clean my track and didn’t charge me anything for the service call. So I did just that like I had in the past and obviously that wasn’t the solution. After securing the two replacement wheels from Home Depot along with a silicone spray, I was able to knock this job out in about 45 minutes. I was also lucky to have just the right size block of wood to separate the frame from the glass which was quite challenging. A few good strikes with my rubber melet and it came loose. My glass door slides as smooth as ice now and I saved myself a few hundred bucks in the process thank you again.

You are marvelous. Your easy step by step manner is a treat. After seeing what goes into fixing a sloping glass pane - I will eventually call the glass company. Right now I have a small piece of cork in the top of the track stopping that gap effect.
Not the best but if I got out the rubber mallet and then played around with the weather stripping I would need a new door. Thanks anyway for a beautiful job explaining what needs to happen.
And I couldn't use silcone spray to have the door slide smoothly as the door that tilts would slide and lock me outta the house. M.

Great video for a very common problem. I would only add to fully remove that side frame then clean & lube the gasket (a wipe down with silicone or soapy water works great) before reinstalling the frame will ensure the gasket is not pulled or torn. Evaluate the rail the wheels ride on as well (take a kitchen scrub sponge and clean your rail! Dirt gets packed on the rail making even new wheels roll a bit rough). If your rail has flat spots, Prime Line sells a snap on repair rail that works great!

@@mickbrown815 You may want to try either Amazon or EBay for your patio door handle and lock assembly. I recommend measuring the length, screw hole distance apart, as well as the latch that goes on the frame. You should be able to find one just about identical. Not sure if you live in the FL area, but a lot of the original builder-grade patio doors installed were from a company called Nu Air. You also may be able to see a sticker/label or engraved brand name somewhere on your doors- also, you sometimes may see it on the screen slider as well. Hope this helps and good luck! Robert

Mainly on weather stripping as it is a main friction point . There is no real need to spray the track ( but doesn’t hurt anything either if you want to spray it) with new wheels as they roll freely on top of the track.

Couldn't take my 20 yr old door apart at the panel,, so I had to look at other vids to see how to take out the door. Had to take the rollers out to see who had them, as I couldn't tell what it looked like without taking them out. Since I needed it right away I found them at Homedepot. 1 1/4 in with the Rounded hole for the screw. 8/12/20

Dude all done! I cannot believe how easy that was! And I lubricated the tracks this thing is running so smooth. Again thank you so much! I waited five years because I thought I had to take the whole window panel off which I am not experienced to do. I was dragging this thing back-and-forth for the last five years it is the original rollers from 1977 LOL.

Compared to the solidly rusted rollers I'm replacing, the ones this guys is pulling out look practically brand new!

The wheels have ball bearings inside, and they wear out and start making noise or stop rolling very well, that’s the main problem in my area, we don’t have a lot of wet weather here where I live.
