Yo!!! The 3D quality is so evident on the Weiss EQ. FF is no comparison sonically. You can hear hear it plain as day! The way the Weiss makes the ambience come out and widens the stereo field is crazy. 🤯 Damn dude... I really didn’t want to spend any more money.... 😩🙈 make it stop 🙉😂 good review! I usually don’t like long reviews, but when considering this price tag... tag all the time you need! Lol 👍🏾 I was sold at 18:28 💰
Thanks for a great review! Just finished a track with the demo. I was blown away by the clarity and overall "like a record" smoothness. No harshness at all. I already have Weiss DS1 Compressor. The pair are virtually unbeatable for clarity and overall depth. Bit the bullet and bought it.Price is painful just like my DS1 but over time will pay for itself through licensing.
Great review. I used it properly for the first time yesterday and did exactly what you did - selected the wrong band and adjusted it. Very easy to do when you are in the throws of mixing with all the bands sitting there in front of you, looking identical and right next to each other. Would really like a "lock" for each band. And a bigger GUI with bigger dials and bigger "normal" frequency analyzer. Now that I realise all the controls are there in the "large screen" mode (I thought it was missing some DYN mode parameters - but you need to select the drop down after right clicking the EQ band) I will give that mode a try as this might solve my issues. Like people say, the way it brings out air, depth, width etc. with such little gain on the bands is fantastic. I am constantly checking to see how much gain I have added as I think I might be overdoing it - louder is always sounds better! - but just very small gains (and cuts) really do make quite a nice noticeable difference. So far I have only used the low latency DYN mode as I haven't used it for mastering yet. This low latency was what finally sold it to me as I couldn't really justify buying it just for mastering. Though I probably still would have. Eventually.
I don't know why but each plugin manufacturer has its own sound and this Weiss eq has really interesting sound, apparent even on this compressed yt video. Digital EQs have less differences than analog eq emulations but this one really has something unique to it definitely.
Super clean eq , disliked it at first but it is dope once getting used to it, it will be a mainstay on masters, still love Q3 but Weiss is an another animal Massenberg UAD one comes close or equal to weiss as well! Goodstuff ✌🏼Cheers
Chimpsbroth yes, more a dynamic eq I think, but very similar to a multiband compressor. Dynamic Eq uses a different signal flow to the side chain which allows for very narrow bands of compression and a very transparent sound! Your very welcome for the review hopefully it was helpful, thanks for the comment.
Huge eq adjustments, wouldn't have minded hearing this with the small adjustments a mastering engineer would actually make, which would actually be in the decimals. Still, besides this thanks for showing us how the eq performs. I have their compressor, might look into this.
Benj I’d have more complaints I’m sure if I did subtle moves, most don’t have a playback system that will reproduce a .2db move and so as a review it’s a bit heavy handed! Defo will keep it in mind going forward though!
Hi Dean thanks for the feedback, the reason for that is so you can listen to one element in the music and hear how it changes as the eq's switch. A full bar of music and your mind will move to another element before the change (or even worse as it changes) and the comparison is flawed. Full bar of music is a way more enjoyable watch I'm sure but far too long to study just one element awaiting the change and whether we like it or not, we aren't listening to the music as a whole, we can only take in a few elements at a time and will wander after a few seconds. If you try just listening to one element of the drums or one instrument at a time as the eq spins on and off you'll see the benefit of the fast switching, well hopefully anyways :)
An Eq plugin`s Gain is simply that. A Gain. Nothing more nothing less. It is impossible to make a software Gain sound different unless you add something extra. So a boost of 1 Db in the digital realm will only be a boost of 1 db in coding. Unlike Analog Hardwear that will add it`s own distortion and more. So the only reason why two software Eq`s can sound different is cause of intention when coding. For example if you add a bit of distortion but not say it loudly. When you did the High shelf comparisson it sounds to me as if the Weiss boosts more than the Pro Q. Does this mean the Pro Q is Dull? Or does it mean that the Weiss is exhagerating? Who knows..... As if it has an integrated Air band or something extra. Never in this lifetime is this plugin worth 3x the Pro Q price and never in life is it worth 500. For me it makes not sense for software to reach hardware price ranges but i guess there are people who drive supercars inside a city so there is always a market. Also i find it weird how some people accept the version of reality where plugins designed in the mid 90`s are somehow unsurpased and the end of evolution in software development. I am pretty sure that if the weiss would cost 200 euro it would go under in the saturated market pretty fast. So very good marketing of softube cause they combine an admitably good plugin with some extra "exclusivity feeling" . I find it most impressive how psychology works in this. Viewers judging plugins and good sound over YT videos. Having said that thank you for the thorough review. My thoughts are general and are not by anyway meant as an attack or something like this. I subscribed and hope for more interesting content in the future. Cheers
I agree with a lot of what your saying, comes across more as an interesting comment than an attack, so no worries. For years I wondered how if they are just doing the job stated, that one eq could sound different to another, other than the circuit choices, transformers etc. Phase shift being the answer really, plugins do defo add a little extra in to give a sonic, and then of course the phase shift occurring either by good or bad coding (I'm totally guessing here). In last few years plugin EQ really has just gotten sooo good, I really must review the softube designed Native Instruments Massive Passive EQ plugin as I sold my Manley Massive Passive not long after getting it, and that is a plugin with no hype also only €50. New plugins are depressingly good even the compressors are starting to sound right. So for what it does €500 isn't too much money, But seeing as I can get access to all Plugin alliance plugins for €250 a year, and even they do €30 sales here and there like waves. So its a hard ask to spend €500 on a plugin, it really is! so i agree, it's not worth the money. Have another 18 days of the demo to decide, but €500, could pick up a guitar or old valve amp etc for that kinda money.
@@ivanjackman glad you think so. Much Appreciated, i worry cause i believe you will also have witnessed "internet fights" without any important reason. To the second part. I hear you. You dont even need to take Plugin Alliance as an example. You can see it this way. for 500 you can buy Ozone 9 Adv (without discount) or Dmg Limitless+Multiplicity+Track Comp, or almost Pro L+Pro Q + Pro C . So if it was hardware i would be like "ok maybe they did some craftmanship magic". But in the digital realm ? It is like saying that the Weiss is programmed 3 times better. Which .... well to each his own to interpret as he-she likes. I just hate these "exclusive" price policies cause they go against what plugins achieved in the last 10 years. Being a serious alternative for hardware (sonically at least). I believe that in 5-6 Years from now plugins will have convinced even the hardliners. I also firmly believe that 90% of people claiming to hear vast differences on youtube would fail in a blind test if they are honest to themselves. Btw test Unisum Compressor if you want to hear the next level compression. Cheers and nice talking. Have a nice day
@@saardean4481Hello Guys, so , i am wondering what to think after reading your comments. You are against expensive labeled plugins, yes i understood that and i guess its personal , but i ear a different sound between the two and its not half Db louder, what i could ear on the fabfilter is that, the band you boost or cut seems to be extract little more from the reste of the song when with the Weiss, it is more staying together. I know nothing about coding. they is plugging that automatically compensate the loudness that i am using to avoid those loudness feelings. But i don't know guy, i don't have the Weiss eq. is it just more loud with the weiss after all ?
Weiss EQ is like any other parametric EQ in the box. You can test it by nulling with other EQ. Back in day when weiss was released computers were to slow this is why its was made into hardware unit with DSP's and was aimed at mastering engineers so it was priced accordingly. Nowadays its just yet another EQ, but softube are great at marketing.
@@off1off1 "i guess it`s personal"? You are right. My issue is not with over the top pricing but with the weiss eq that is a person "i guess". You made my day, thank you for that. Why don`t you do some null tests yourself. When you fail to find a difference you can then still go and throw your 500 out the window.
This phnemoenom is very strange. A guy reviews an audio gear and his voice sounds as it has been recorded in 1890, or before. How is that possible?? It´s like a host in a car show owns a 1970`s Vauxhall. And raise the volume of your microphone ...

You should do voice overs for movies. Great lo pitched voice
Thanks very much!
Yup it comes at a price but to me the Weiss has more depth and is smoother - especially the top end. Wow nice EQ!
Thank you for the early review. So from the advanced features, does this also work as a multi band compressor?

They sound very similar in zero latency vs dyn mode but night and day in lin phase, with the Weiss sounding much better IMO.
awesome song and review. wish it would be a bit louder though.
Thank you and I agree, I have fixed the issues with newer videos!
Horrible song, sounds like the 'songwriter' really shouldn't be one.
Thanks for this. On the comparison, why flit between so quickly, not even a bar of music? Really annoying!

@@ivanjackman Thanks. Personally, I prefer longer comparison sections. When listening critically, my mind doesn't 'move on', it focuses.
but why would you use this instead of fab filter?
I wouldn't, Fabfilter is a great EQ
Is this really good? compare ff q2 ? I have not good speaker...
Its pretty good, if you have FF Q2 your doing ok though!
Softube Weiss absolutely batter!!!
