I’ve used this eq for all of my career, at first as the harmonia mundi, then as the Weiss...it’s always been a powerhouse goto for me...super clean, super posh - basically the digital equivalent of a GML or a Maselec...What do you think of the sound and the GUI?

Yeah, this EQ - the mix EQ EQ MP (replaced Pro Q for me ) and the DS1 MK3 AND the DEESSER are all top quality, amazing plug-ins. Glad to have them, expensive but worth it if they make the job easier and the results better. Softube are my favourite plug-in maker, almost everything they make sounds and works better than most of the competition.

Was completely blown away by the sound. The interface is a bit slow compared to plugs like FF and DMG which have had more time to develop their interfaces. I couldn't believe how small the interface was on my 4k monitor. With no option to resize. I was also a bit frustrated by the stepped frequency choice and with no ability to enter an exact frequency, which I guess was just them making it truly identical to the hardware... Also no modifier or shortcut for solo or bypass. (I know they have double click for bypass but i find a modifier plus click is faster and less likely to cause confusion.) Other than that. BRILLIANT sound. Truly mind blowing. Only EQ I've been excited about since pro q 3.

It sounds super clean to me. The phase relationship doesn’t seem to change with the boosts and only the frequency being tweaked get louder or quieter. Probably going on my list of plugins to buy.
Exact code hardware to plugin the hardware internally is 40bit floating point same as Softube plugin. The sample rate for the hardware is 24bit 96khz, the Softube plugin is 32bit 192khz.
Do you always use Pro Tools to master or do you use other programs ever like Sequoia??? I have Sequoia in trying to determine whether or not if I should just use Pro Tools cuz I have that too
Great review Streaky, do you know if the dynamic mode can be controlled by a sidechain? I know it's a mastering EQ but for vocal, instrument and drum summed busses would be great to use it for some ducking dynamic eq duties perhaps?

To my ears the WEISS sounds a bit cleaner than the ProQ3. Maybe more exact and seems to clean up a bit better (especially in the lows)

But is there an actual difference in how the EQ's sound? I mean the Pro Q3 is super versatile but it definitely leaves alot of artifacts around, when going crazy with it.
Does Weiss do this also? Is it as versatile? Why would one get this if already owning the Pro Q3?

More a quick presentation/product demo than a review actually.
It is a review. I hate it when people just talk about a product without showing any audio examples. Streaky explained the features and did a demo. The sound quality of the EQ is self-explanatory.

Well the Pro-Q isn't even beating the MDWEQ5 in sound and resolution. This Weiss EQ is on another level. Probably the only other EQ with similar resolution is the Algorhythmix/Maat EQ Orange

I think that you simply cannot compare a product like the Weiss EQ1, a reference in digital mastering, 1:1 coded from the original unit with the Pro-Q3 - which is superb as well -. The job that Softube did together with Daniel Weiss is incredible.
I did some testing today, I'm a Fabfilter Pro Q fanboy since the first version, the Weiss sounds INCREDIBLE. Don't take my word for it, download the demo and test it yourself. Set some curbs and match them on fabfilter, even on linear phase the fabfilter couldn't hold up. The one thing I will say, it's a bit of a cpu hog, but understandably.
Here's my two cents after using them for a couple months. I love the Weiss, however it is very expensive. My only gripe is that I don't think the Weiss is as user friendly as the Q3. However, after running a few tests I opted out for the Plug-in alliance Amek EQ 200. It came out just in time. Try testing it against the Weiss. It sounds really good in my opinion. I can't justify the price of the softube Weiss although it is an amazing EQ nonetheless. I still keep the Pro Q 3 because nothing beats it for accuracy and cutting those bad frequencies out.

If it is the same as the softube Weiss compressors, than it will be a direct port of the code, so yes, it will be the same as the hardware.
I wasn't going to buy it.. then I saw this Softube product promo where they do the phase cancelation between the hardware and plugin:ua-cam.com/video/iTo_cXmaiVo/v-deo.html - SOLD... upgraded to the Weiss everything bundle.. God bless Softube for continuing to make high quality plugin products.
Softube claims you can flip the phase and cancel the signal, meaning yes it should sound exactly the same. Literally.
the difference is 40bit DSP precision in the original hardware vs 32 or 62bit DSP (it's unclear in Weiss info) in the plugin.

Ok sooo I am going to go into this with a very bipartisan opinion... I have looked into all sorts of solutions for mastering. ALL Weiss Plugins are a Direct 1:1 line code transfer the compressor limiter...Eq etc...etc.. That being said even down to the soft clip from the A/D converters have been coded exactly. I have compared this with other mastering plug ins... For the money... The Softube version of the Hardware sounds EXACTLY the same... As well if you are a SERIOUS professional you would be hard pressed to get anything as esoteric as this at a fair price point and married with the CONSOLE 1 contoller interface your getting well over $30-40k worth of gear for a fraction of the cost. I have compared the WEISS MM-1 MAXIMZER to Waves and Izotope OZONE MAXIMIZER and quite frankly no other plug in Mastering compressor limiter even COMPARES to the WEISS plug ins hands down the Weiss plug in products really get you the results with the definition...power..smoothness...openess..depth.. And clarity like no other. When I looked into a Hybrid Digital and Analog mixing and mastering set up I needed to be budget minded and I needed high quality Bang for Buck software and hardware...and believe me this is one of the best solutions for my needs... It may not be for everyones needs or specific goals or approach to mixng and mastering however it has solved alot of my unanswered questions on how to achieve that dynamic ..powerful... Yet open sound and the WEISS digital hardware has been used in hundreds of commercial Mastering facilities since the late 90's till now... It is the Secret Sauce that not too many people know about unless you are in the know. Just my 2 cents worth...

Doesn't bring anything new to the table for me.. Maybe if you're used to weiss hardware it could be useful for recall but otherwise proQ3 will work as good

These plugins and the set are too expensive.
My thoughts? It is a fantastic plugin. Beautiful Gui. Beautiful sound. But not 500 dollar beautiful. Only problem i see is that nowadays there are more than one fantastic plugins. And they cost max 1/2 of the softube weiss. So maybe Dmg, Fabfilter and the likes are much too cheap and should also charge that much? (i hope not). I think this whole weiss series are aiming on people wanting the Weiss name and are willing to pay a completely overpriced plugin by any standard. I also find very funny that people who say "analog all day" seem to like the weiss plugins. Imho the softube weiss things are far from being irrepplaceable. We live in probably the best time in history if you want music production tools . Like the Unisum compressor.
Saar Dean I think you’re right I can’t believe how cheap the fabfilter stuff is considering how good it is...plus other, top plugins should be around 500 just so you use them more and stop the search!
@@Streaky_com there is no end on the search as long as things evolve. The suggestion on the other plugins getting to 500 was meant in an ironic way. But to each his own. What i meant is that Softube didn`t even invent the weiss plugins. Thats because if if you came out today with a 500 euro plugin and without the silly "but the hardware used to cost 9000" argument nobody would buy it. There will always be companies that want to get rich faster and others more down to earth. Softube does good marketing i give them that and i own some of their stuff but i will give my support to the other companies in the future
Ps: it`s impressive to see how many people claim to hear nuances and depth in a youtube video.
@@saardean4481 Actually almost no difference with ProQ3, I'm working on a blind test with the 2, I'm sure it will be 50/50, can't hear real difference (with quite extreme settings, high shelf boost of 6db)

@@surgicalaudio8829 What about the Weiss EQ preserving the integrity of the source material, like punch, color and overall resolution? So far I've not heard any EQ plugin that can do that. ProQ is certainly good, but not as transparent as the Weiss EQ

LOL. I think this product, review, etc is aimed at a particular demographic.
There's always the option of not buying it.. no one is forcing anyone to buy it... the stock DAW EQs are free.
You can use this plugin to make money for the next 20 years. If you can’t make money, don’t blame the price of the plugin.
Look at what you own. No matter what you bought and for how much, there were people who couldn't afford to feed themselves regardless of the climate. I don't get the connection.

That's not the point of this.
First of all, an EQ doesen't make music, but it enhances a sound or corrects problems.
Whilest this can be used for mixing, it's designed as a mastering EQ, to be used by mastering Engineers, it's not targeted at the average bedroom producer.
The price of this plugin whilest yes very expensive, if it sounds the same as the hardware and you love the hardware, it's justified because it's still cheaper, think how long it took them design it in software form and then export the code of the hardware into software, not to mention that but obviously they had to buy the license from Weiss as well, all these things add up, after the licensing, building the plugin to standard, etc etc etc, it all adds up to the final price, and then they can go, well here, here's a weiss eq in plugin form, just for the luxury of that they can slap on more $ to the price tag, a bit overpriced? Maybe, but fantastic none the less.
