This is a tremendous, in depth tutorial of the Weiss DS1-MK3. Congrats. As great as the plugin / hardware is, Softube has not produced a walk through of this level. Then again, there is Michael White, and they maybe counted on it :).
Mr M. W. All your videos are always as good as the manual with extra information and perfection in the details! thanks for letting me watch them!
Really appreciate this tutorial! As far as I can find, this is the most in-depth demo of all the features, especially the fast-average-slow release knobs. Thank you!
Dear Michael, thank you so much for all your REALY AMAZING tutorials....You CAN explain things.
Amazing tutorial. Wish the drums weren't so low passed so we could hear more of what was happening. Also, would be cool to do extremes from time to time versus the tasteful .01 dB changes. Can be a good way to highlight the parameter - especially through YT compression. Just some 3am thoughts, I love your tutorials!
Thanks for the info! I actually am really digging this song!
always great videos Michael ...
Thanks a lot for this video ! Very instructive !
Thanks Mike..
Good to see you back. Been a while..☺
Cheers!
Your tutorials are the best !!!!
Thank you very much for your effort.
Mike, I want to thank you for your videos. Much appreciated.
Cheers!
I bought it, checked the manual, discovered there was no good explaining.. This video shows a lot of the tricks this plugin can do...... Thank you so much for showing and sharing.. !!
awesome thanks for the great explanation. way better than the manual!
thank you Mike
appreciate your vids Mike! thank you!
Cheers!
Cheers!
thanks a lot !!!
Great video thanks :)
Thank you so much Mike. Could you do a small vid on the MM-1 as well?
Thanks for the Video, very well done Mike and No.... regarding to a comment here you did not speak too much. I did enjoy every Information. ✌🏻 Who is the Artist ? I would love to find this Song on Spotify 😋
Love that track. Who's the artist?
Thanks Michael for very informative video!
just bought weiss bundle, and your overview is much more enjoyable to follow ,instead of manual:) lazy me.
Nice track by the way. which microphone was used on vocals? i Like it`s top end
Cheers! I did not record the song, and no info about the mic on the stems.
What reverb do you use in this video? Thanks
great clear explanation - finally i can use this plug !!
Cheers!
Love your videos as always Mike! Quick question, do you know of any alternatives to Weiss DS1-MK3 that do band selective compression as well as this?
Only one of its kind I believe
Love this video and plugin Mike! Your vids are so helpful! Quick question, can you tell me where to find the “pre limiter gain” in parallel compression mode? Is it the output gain? Am I correct in that the output gain sets the threshold of the limiter? Also, I’m not sure I fully understand what the side chain link does. I’ve read the manuals but can’t seem to lock these things down. Thanks so much! Cheers!
Hi Karsten,
Might want to watch the Features Video for this plugin (ua-cam.com/video/_nDbOi1XlMg/v-deo.html)
There are 4 gain stages in this processor
1. Input Gain
2. Makeup Gain - This makeup gain is for the processed signal only even if band limited
3. Limiter Gain - This is the gain post processing but prior to the Safe Limiter
4. Output Gain - Output level post everything
S/C link monos the stereo input signal before feeding the S/C of the processing engine. Basically, it links the L-R or M-S Gain Reduction. Unlinked the GR is independent for L-R or M-S
Hope this helps!
Mike
Yes it the output gain knob to the complete right !
Ummmmmm can I ask what is the track?.....and is that somewhere I can purchase or stream?....thanks!!!
Is it multiband compressor/dynamic EQ?
Hey Michael, What is the artist and title of this track? Great track...
Also very great vid and very informative.
What setting would you use for an average hip hop song far as attack and release with a -2 gain reduction with the drums hit?
As for any compressor, it all depends on the material and what you want to achieve. There are absolutely no general settings/recommendations possible.
Thank you! What is the name of the artist?
Christina Dahl
Thank you very much. Please keep doing such a necessary thing.
I have just demoed Weiss DS1-MK3, it is 400 USD!!!
Well, imo TDR Kotelnikov makes a way better job in master chain..
Kotelnikov is definitely a great processor. I had a similar expression for it when I first demod it, didn't have a massive wow element. But the two aren't really comparable as the Weiss is a much deeper unit with some really neat additional functionality. After really learning how to use it effectively, it has become an invaluable tool in my mixing/mastering toolset. It's just that the learning curve is very steep.
@@efnerva664 I meant Kotelnikov GE, and it has some features you won't find on Weiss ;)
@@najinelson6742 it does, but it's still a full bandwidth compressor where as the weiss can do band-selective compression. I agree that is a nice plugin, but it couldn't replace the weiss for me.
@@efnerva664 you can slso select bands with Kotelnikov, if you want less or more compression at around 2Kh or wherever it's possible
@@najinelson6742 yes, but kotelnikov's filters work on the detection circuit. Compressor itself is still wideband. This is different from the weiss that only works in that particular band. It seems like a small difference, but actually opens up a whole lot of possibilities.
You talk too much for an audio example video. You already talked for 20 minutes in the previous video. What's wrong with you?
just demo it yourself then 🙄
Dang....lol
