I live in nearby Freeport.....got devastation of our own, but Long Beach got really hit. God Bless all those in LB, God knows how much I love that place.
Oscar Sanders Hi. I do not know if you are still active but Thank you. We are still rebuilding as some of my friends houses were JUST knocked down. LBNY is coming back way stronger than ever and we thank you for all the prayers as they helped tremendously.
Obviously "martenfisher1" has never been to Long Beach. This is not a rich persons beach resort. 90% of the people are hard working folks who have lived here for over 30 years. Many are now retired people. A large number of residents are firemen and policemen. P.S. majority are Republicans.
I'm so sorry to see this devastation. I live at the Tappan Zee Bridge and I make the trek for a long day at Long Beach as often as I can...stay on the beach until I'm too hungry not to...venture out into one of the establishments for dinner, take one more walk on the beach & leave for the 75 min drive home late. I'm so sorry for this loss. FYI, the Marines use Christmas trees to rebuild sand sunes in NC. Someone should contact USMC at Camp Lejeune, NC for info! Much love to Long Beach xoxo
People did die in long beach.this reporter got some wrong information.my house there was destroyed by the flood.i watched the houses in the canals burn.its something i will never forget.i am lucky i got out the next day.long beach is going to come back to what it once was.i hope every one left is safe and hope to see you all again soon!
Im gonna be pissed if the rest of us have to pay for your boardwalk. My town doesnt have a boardwalk. Why should I pay for you to have a boardwalk? Why should I pay for any of the damages in the East. The rest of the time New Yorkers call my home flyover country. Well, dont expect flyover country to pay for you lifestyle.
i'm shocked at how mean this comment is? we pay a ton of taxes and believe me the repair of our boardwalk will and is coming out of our pockets. In addition, this Storm was something no one could have predicted- it was life changing.....I wouldn't wish it on ANYONE.....so many of my friends still aren't home as of July 12... it's heartbreaking! Not about money - about people.

"common sense" in florida? you mean like building canals that go through the back of houses and then wondering why the alligators use them to eat pets??? Or living in a state that is in a perpetual hurricane zone and sits almost completely at sea level? hmmmm
So sad. My grandparent lived in Long Beach since the 1920s. My dad was born there and so was I (1955). Grew up in LB and Oceanside. So many memories.

I use to live in Long Beach and when hurricane sandy hit I was only 5 and I will never forget it.
I was thinking how much it affected the little kids that were in Blackheath pre-K because it destroyed that whole building 😢
Prayers with all of you from Long Beach, Ca

Yes, PF6096, I live in this wonderful town and you've described it perfectly. Working-class place, which is what makes it so great.
Not any longer sadly 😢
Im from here and yea it was no the smartest to build so close to the ocean but this town is amazing and its devastating to see everything gone
Long Beach is one of the best beach towns in the world It only will get better G-d bless Long Beach
thank you for posting this; I work in Island Park (just outside of Long Beach) and our company was devastated too. Good Luck to everyone...

Great video, but you know the Long Beach resident / reporter didn't write the title.
"IN" Long Island?
Seriously, New York Times?
I don't watch tv or get the paper. I'd be saying, "Where'd everybody go?"
