Ok everybody dissing on RP's vocals here- I give him HUGE credit for singing harmony on a difficult song vocally. He is not a harmony singer and admits he has given it a shot (starting with working with Alison Krauss) because he is always moving forward and challenging himself. On this, the guy is singing with his girlfriend in the town they lived at the time- and it's very cool. Secondly I will say I saw these two at a tiny venue here in Austin around this time and his voice was the most amazing I've ever heard live. It has nuance, incredible softness and then yes, still some power. Not like the Zep days when he was literally 20-25 years old, but amazing. Took my breath away. As did hanging with him after the show (mutual friends). Robert is a rock god for very good reason.
You need to look how old he is now giving the fact how many kinds of music he has done over the years & I think he is giving it a heck of a try.I give him a UP for that ::-) ...
I understand a little bit better now after reading an interview with Patty. Plant doesn't really know how to harmonize. Patty said it herself. "He feels insecure about it... That's what makes it so nice." I'm sure she meant the way he feels his way through.... You can see Patty give him encouragement and Robert looks to her for that. I like the way they work through this. Nicely done by two very different artists, icons, from musical worlds apart
I imagine after listening to this a few times, it will grow on me. IMHO, Patty needs nothing but herself, her voice, and her guitar - which is pretty much what we see here. No drums, no "duet," no backup singers. She is a miracle unto herself. Always has been. The thing that Plant has done is brought her back to her roots, where she belongs. TY Patty.for being yourself.
Please excuse me for interjecting my thoughts on Mr. Plant with Patty . The traditional community and folk community has always been a welcoming community . Why all this dissing of Patty and or Robert for singing a few songs together or that his voice has shredded somewhat from it's hard use in Led Zeppelin . He seems to have shown a genuine interest in roots music , and I applaud him for that .
Oh,this was just a min-phase for Robert...like switching brands of beer for a month. But they should have killed his Mic for this cause he blows trying to sing along.
I spent a lot of time wondering why I love Robert Plant so much and then...DUH!!! it hit me...he's the best rock n' roll singer that ever lived and oh yeah...he's married to Patty Griffin...now it just seems natural...
Got to meet Robert in Wellington New Zealand April 10 2013 and as he signed my Band of Joy cd he was laughing , telling me how he'd only just been texting Patty Griffin back in Austin and then I hand him a BOJ cover to sign
This song.... so true... so real....so art! Thank you Patty Griffin for taking this out of us all to share. Great work with Robert Plant. It's Only Love PDX
This is such a great song. I thought it was head and shoulders above the other tracks on American Kid. After many listens it's still my favourite but the rest of the album has grown on me too. Does anyone else hear a bit of an eastern influence here?
This is really great! Robert Plant sounds amazing here and same with Patty. I very much love this so much and they sound perfectly together and beautiful harmonies too. Hope you two do more duets together. Also I downloaded this video onto my itunes.
Meet me in the evening, where the river is low Meet me on the waters of the Ohio No lines, no lines, the river is a river, not a line My blood is the water and it's darker and deeper than time If the hounds are howling, then you cannot hide My friend, I will meet you on the other side No lines, no lines, the river is a river, not a line My love is the water and it's stronger and deeper than time Meet me 'neath the moon, under the singing tree If you are the first, stay there and wait for me If no one comes by morning and the sun is a-rising red If no one comes by morning, please forgive me, my friend For I am dead
what a lovely thing to say. Good luck to them and people need to stop going on about needing Jimmy Page etc, they sound great and just let them be. You have said what people would say who have a heart, thank you.
he's been a lead singer, so now he's doing backup here and harmonies...AND he's 64 yrs old!! AND not auto-tuned...we should have a hint of the talent he has...
Never was a Band of Joy fan, nor is anyone else that I know. Preference folks. Robert was much more powerful and resonate harmonizing with Alison Krauss. It won them 5 Grammy's to show. Honestly, he sounds flat at times, yet still has a beautiful voice. Patty Griffin is a truly fine singer, and truth be told, she sounds best alone. Doing her marvelous thing she does, but on her own.
Robert is being smart about his life and his music....getting in with Patty Griffin (they are married now) and other folk and roots singers. Robert was a fan of folk music years before Led Zeppelin.
What a poignant song, seems so simplistic until you really get the meaning behind the words. Beautifully written by Patty and I've read the arrangement was done by Robert. It's a wonderful collaboration between two people and it's so nice to see them together. I am so looking forward to her new album. I also hear Highway Song on the radio to the other day and their harmonies brought tears to my eyes.
Right on target MizQue, as we all know love can be blind and lust is often fueled by some substance or drink. Since he claims not to drug in 35 years out of his mouth it must be the Texas Kool-Aide . However he is and will always be my #1 Rock God and I always send him love, light, health+ happiness. Goddess bless

It’s a pity they’re relationship didn’t ultimately work out, as they seemed like such a great couple. I saw them together on Plant’s “Band Of Joy” tour, and, even from the nosebleeds, their chemistry was palpable. This was even before they started a relationship, or at least before they were public about it.
I am a big fan of Led Zepplin having seen them in Edmonton when i was 14 back in 1969. I was blown away. I have loved Robert Plant's voice for decades. Unfortunately his voice is not as good as it used to be and I was disappointed in his singing and harmonizing here. Its kind of sad the way things change.
I hear ya,my feelings also.Have you seen him on the many concerts like on AXS? He's surrounded by great guitarist, musicans, and great sound effects that hide his singing. They rock though..
Funny -- would you have said the same about Krauss a few years back? His wife, back in the good old days? Her sister? Plant has a habit of wandering...
I love them both. But I cant really hear Robert's ( the Golden God) voice in this song. I recently heard him with his new band SS. Loved him/them. a lot of old Led Zeppelin songs.
This is human music, with all its flaws, imperfections and beauty.

I seen him say how much Alison has helped him how to harmony, that's a humble thing to say. I think he's doing better as time passes on as well...
Love the harmony well done Robert!!!
They blend well together.
She just has one of the best voices ever - such a great songwriter, too.
Genius harmonies. Plany fills every opening left by Patti's lead. Pure genius.

I new to her music but I'm. Such a fan now' thanks Robert 💯🔥❤️ you make quite a Duo
I love their harmonization in this song, but do agree with what you say ! Love this song ❤ Both great musicians!!!!
Now THIS is what I'm talking about! Patty and her guitar. She needs nothing else except her song. She is the best!
Lovin this......nothin faked......peace and love friends

I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!
Barbara Baldwin I actually liked the ghostly memory feeling it gave me.
His musical influences were always there from the beginning
@@captinbeyond I think that he sounds awesome
ROBERT PLANT AND PATTY GRIFFIN ARE BOTH TWO OF MY FAVORITES . REALLY LOVE THEM TOGETHER!!!
Same here......
pure authentic stuff ..love them both
His voice melts me
I love this combination and this song. Excellent.
I spent a lot of time wondering why I love Robert Plant so much and then...DUH!!! it hit me...he's the best rock n' roll singer that ever lived and oh yeah...he's married to Patty Griffin...now it just seems natural...
I love how he is so subdued in this song, THAT takes talent. Its such a shame they are no longer together.
second time round you two have now made me cry ....its so Beautiful ..emotions ...a blessing ..and a cure .
Beautiful
I've always loved both Robert and Patty, and now they're together... can they just adopt me?
This would be a great version for a love scene in a movie ...haunting and vulnerable x

Patty G. has a beautiful, high voice. Wish I could sing half as well!
Doesn't get much better than that.
Robert is…. A Golden God of Rock and Roll Music. Don’t forget about the beautiful gift from being beautiful people 🎉🎉🎉❤😊❤

Produced by Craig Ross of Austin who is the third in this video.

I think most people's problems with 'pitchiness', especially those who do not sing for a living, is misunderstanding of tempered tuning.
Yeah,it was painful to listen to but then again,we are not so gifted to understand how great it was.You must be lucky.

Imagine Stevie Nicks singing with Eddie Vedder......the vibrato!
A great duo, and Craig Ross too! Saw her without Plant but with Ross - he sang it better!
Does anyone know how her guitar is tuned? Her playing is transcendent.
The weirdest rock couple ever. But I love Plant and love Griffin, so my best to them both.
Back when I heard they were a thing that was my exact thoughts--sweet patty with hard rocker robert plant? This is so not his musical style.
Maybe that is what is uplifting about Plant - his musical style, previously considered so etched in stone, has been allowed to stretch and open up.
mark price his musical style has evolved, changed, grown, and developed so so so much since 1980.

Pretty awesome
Very mesmerizing sound
The waitress from Orono Maine with the French-Canadian wail married the lead singer of Zeppelin?!? Mind blown
❤️🔥 beautiful
What kind of guitar is she using? Dayum it sounds great
What in the world guitar tuning is Patty's guitar in? I can't find it anywhere.
👍🇺🇸🇬🇧❤
That harmony singer she's got there isn't bad.
🥁
Does anyone have the chords or tabs for this?
That isn't Daniel Lanois on the other guitar, is it?
Good to see someone liked BoJ. :p
It's nice we have this bc now Robt. is gone, before he should have been. RIP.
Robert plant is not dead. What are you on about?
William Stockbridge OMG Robert is NOT GONE!!!!! He has much living to still do my friend!
Ya excuse us but what rock have you been living under ? Patty and Robert are also a couple. A lovely one at that.
kat Mats Nope, Robert is a Feather In The Wind and has moved on !
kat Mats
not any more they're not
What kind of tuning? Drop d, double drop d, or dadgad?
Funny -- would you have said the same about Krauss a few years back? His wife, back in the good old days? Her sister? Plant has a habit of wandering...

Amazing Robert still has no gray.
Robert & Patty are like a couple of teenagers completely lost in their love... Has Bob finally found his Muse of Life?
I love them both. But I cant really hear Robert's ( the Golden God) voice in this song.
I recently heard him with his new band SS. Loved him/them. a lot of old Led Zeppelin songs.
It's really hard to miss. Hopefully you've gotten new speakers by now.
