Paul wrote this beautiful song for his wife, Linda, who sadly died of cancer in 1998. She was the mother of his three children and he also adopted her oldest daughter. They were married for 29 years.
After Lennon stated he was leaving the Beatles in September 1969 (but the group agreed not to announce it yet), McCartney moved up to his farm in Scotland with his new wife Linda and two daughters. Although they went to "get away from it all", once there Paul started hitting the bottle pretty hard and fell into a deep depression about the breakup of the band. After some difficult weeks, Linda managed to help pull him through and eventually McCartney started recording by himself - playing all the instruments - in a barn on their property. Those songs would eventually be assembled into his first solo album "McCartney", which contained this incredible autobiographical gem. As you noticed, you can really hear him showing some very raw emotions as he professes his love and "amazement" about his relationship with Linda.
I love how youre discovering and embracing the music I grew up with. Its not that youre easily impressed. Its that youre finding and appreciating these gems for what they are.
Paul was the 'Beatle' who captured my heart in 1963, and he continues to create wonderful music to this day🎶💖 Seeing him perform live was truly one of my highlights of summer 1976💫
Paul wrote and arranged all of the songs on the album this song came from! He sang and played all of the instruments too including drums, guitars and keyboards!
he played all instruments on this album ....bass , guitar , piano , acoustic and electric guitar , drums , percussion ....... he recorded the full album at home during the breakup of the Beatles , it was a therapy for him , and was very hurt about the breakup of the band .... he start drinking and drugs and his wife helped him a lot ...... when the album came out he said " i quit the Beatles " but it was the end before .......it was the beggining of his solo career ...... "mc cartney " cames out in 1970 and after , in 1971 his absolut masterpiece " Ram" i recommanded you .......
The music you're listening to is from the Golden Age of modern music, the 60s, 70s & 80s...so there's a lot to be impressed with! Ignore people who are negative about it, you're absolutely feeling the music and it's great! Many of us are just so lucky to have grown up on this music as it was happening, and we're so happy that you're keeping it alive.
I've been listening to it for 60 years and it still has the same freshness and energy that it had when it was brand new. Lyrics, harmony, melody, rhythm.... the basics put together by talented musicians in an era of freedom and discovery.
Gorgeous song for Linda, and one of my favorite albums -- IMO his best work post-Beatles. Raw/earthy! The tune "Junk" is especially pretty. Linda sang harmony on a few of the tunes. As a 10 yr old I loved gazing at the sweet family-on-the-farm photos on the album jacket while listening to the tunes. I'm glad you listened to the studio album version and not the live version. Have you watched "The Beatles: Get Back" documentary yet ? It's long, but well worth the watch, especially if you love their last few albums as a group. cheers!
@@AliasMark69 Your opinion is just as valid as everyone else's - you don't have to be humble. But it is always nice when we find people that have similar taste. I forgot to mention that I would put Wonderful Christmastime 4th
Just remember don't listen to the haters. You are a blank canvas and this is perfect for a reactor. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the music you're listening to. As you go along you will probably know a really good song as opposed to a really bad song. And reacting to a song negatively just shows how real you are. On that note, I really enjoy your reactions.
one of his best vocal work is " monkbery moon delight" on the " ram" album 1971.......but you need to listen " oh darling" a gem from the beatles " abbey road" album
Paul McCartney demonstrates a great screaming vocal on this song...check out the Beatles' version of Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally" for a great over-the-top vocal as well. Rod Stewart does a great version of "Baby I'm Amazed".
Paul McCartney is my all-time favorite artist. Just about every album, there are one or two songs I have to skip, but there's always something I love. This album, I love Maybe I'm Amazed, Every Night, Ooh You, That Would Be Something and Junk. For songs released in the 21st century, I'd go with Too Much Rain, That Was Me, Hunt You Down/Naked/C-link, Nothing for Free, or Find My Way with Beck.
You are doing an EXCELLENT JOB at choosing tunes given you have no past knowledge with this genre of music. Some of us got you covered friend and won't steer you WRONG. Opinions are always going to be different, BUT, Some songs like this one are not obscure and relatively unknown. This is a MONSTER most everyone knows.
@@reallymysterious4520 I'm 69 years old. over 300 Concerts. Heard all the Greatest artist, Know all the best tunes, Dropping Bread Crumbs for JM to pick up on his journey into Classic Rock. Check out his Playlist for the best names in Classic Rock and growing all the time. Cream - "Crossroads" is on my agenda for him.
McCartney was the first artist that was known behind the scenes as "The Voice". Paul has one of those chameleon voices that is so varied, it is hard to find 2 songs that are similar. Check out MONKBERRY MOON DELIGHT for a gruff, gritty voice, or Silly Little Love Songs for a poppy, bass driven dance tune. Paul gets bored listening to himself, so he branches out as much as his voice can stretch.
Keep in mind he is also tracking all these instruments himself. He played the drums, guitar, bass, piano, and organ and all the instruments himself on the whole album. His wife helped with some backing vocals. He did the same on McCartney II, and McCartney III. Recorded completely on a 4 track recorder.
I heard most of the music you react to when I was growing up but I'm a little jealous because it would be pretty cool to be hearing this stuff for the first time. Enjoy the ride!
This may be my favorite McCartney post Beatles song. Without a doubt, Linda was the love of his life. If you would sometime, I suggest doing the Beatles song, Blackbird. I want it played at my funeral. 😌
A little Linda McCartney trivia - the first song written about her was in 1946 when her father asked his client, Jack Lawrence, to write a song using his 1 year old baby Linda's name. Jack was serving in the military when he wrote this song - he was only using her name as a favor to a friend, not flirting with a 1 yr old LOL - It was later recorded by several big names like Frank Sinatra but I like this version ua-cam.com/video/L0gY5XsNpNI/v-deo.html#DoesMyLongPostMakeMeLookOLD Enjoying this channel ❤
Sometime soon you'll want to hear the songs that made many so called authorities damn mad, and others thought it was an Anthem for the new generation....Steppenwolf - "Born To Be Wild".... Then do this most tell it like it is tune...."The Pusher"
Hard to believe this beautiful song was listed to be banned by SJW and US democrats saying it was homophobic/transphobic as it speaks of a hetro man and woman and is therefore not "inclusive". I guess they don't realize their parents were hetro and that's how they came to be. The power of his raw feelings being relayed is awesome and the love should be shared
The following simple or brief history younger listeners/reactors may not know. In order to understand timelines and context, I think it is important for reactors to stop guessing and learn the real history, so they don't make an accidental comment that is totally false, based on rumor or disjointed gossip sourced information. To the best of my knowledge: First This song was NEVER released as a single at first, this is the original 1970 recording on the first McCartney Solo album. A live performance by McCartney's later band Wings, from the live album Wings over America, was released in 1977 from a 1976 tour called "Wings Over America." The original here was released about the same time on the solo "McCartney" album as the Beatles Let It Be album in Spring of 1970. There were group arguments over the release date of this. The Radio stations played this as if it were a single song anyway. The Beatles broke up at this time....his wife Linda quietly sang a few background vocals on this with him, but he did the entire album by himself otherwise, all instruments and voices. This was the first indicator of the super talent he was to be [as if he wasn't already] and not 1/4 of the Beatles, great as they were. He was depressed over the business fights and the break up before the official announcement - John Lennon had already said he was leaving the band in Sept 1969, but for business purposes they kept it quite until April 10, 1970 when Paul announced the Beatles were done [he had enough of perpetuating the myth for business purposes]. It was his wife Linda who pulled him out of the slump and got him going and recording again. Without her, this album that got him started on his solo and Wings band career might not have happened...at least the way it did.
Hey there, if you want to hear great vocals on a song, try checking out “Wicked Game” (the live in the studio version) by Chris Isaak. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Hello darling. Boo you’re so wrong when you say that in 10 to 20 years we will no longer be impressed. I am now 63, and I am more impressed with these musicians than ever before, because, since our generation, nobody has been as good .PS he plays all the instruments on this song. Peace.✌🏼

He’s got a ton of them. Give “Oh, Darling” and “Call Me Back Again” a listen. The ENTIRE Band On The Run album is excellent, too!
Paul plays all the instruments on this debut solo album. I’m amazed 😎👍
I would recommend Calico Sky by Paul McCartney.
didn't see this. i just wrote the same thing. he could pretty much play any instument placed in front of him!
A master vocalist

Love the reaction. McCartney wrote this song for his wife Linda, who passed away a few years later to cancer. Quite a tribute!
28 years later. They had a lot of time together.
Quite a few years later
MILLIONS know every word and love them as Only Paul could sing them. Another TOO COOL reaction.

Paul on Drums.... TOO COOL
NOW... This is one of Mac's Best.... as I'm certain you agree. My personal favorite from him.
Yes it is one of his very good songs, so was ROUGH RIDE as JMBOY TV also agreed!
My 2nd favorite McCartney song after Band on the Run. 3rd fav is Jet, 4th is Wonderful Christmastime
Same 😊
I switch them, But both are Paul's finest in my humble opinion.

I second Monkberry.
A couple years after Paul lost Linda, he did an interview. Awww, his lower lip quivered trying not to cry speaking of her. He loved his lovely lady.
Paul played all the instruments in the song!
If Paul had never written another song he would still be remembered for this one.
Great song from a true genius. Nice reaction 🌺✌️
Paul McCartney - lead and backing vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, bass, piano, organ, drums.... Just because he can.
McCartney is one of the great composer, song writers, singer, artist! Thanks
Paul was very vulnerable...he was depressed about the breakup of the Beatles and it was his wife who helped him during this period
Great song! One of my favorites. I enjoyed your reaction.
One of my favorite songs!
He sounds great in Hey Jude too!
If you want to be even more impressed..Paul played all of the instruments on this.....
He played all the instruments himself on this one. Paul’s first solo album! ❤
one of the best love songs ever made! ♥
such a classic. and keep in mind, paul played all of the instuments on this. i am pretty sure. yeah. he was, and still is, THAT talented.
So nice to see you enjoying great music. Keep going!!
I think you'd like Jim Croce. He had a lot of great songs. Time in a Bottle & Operator are 2 of my favs from him.
He played all the instruments on this.
Mc cartney will always be awesome
This is an awesome song.
That's one beautiful song, pure and unadulterated and you are so lucky to experience it , like an original, forv the first time.

Just in case it hasn't been noted yet, Paul played every instrument on this track.
