I'm really excited to see Celebrimbor in the Amazon show. Who else would you like to see a video on from the Second Age? Let me know here in the comments! Thanks for subscribing!
Woooah that’s awesome can’t wait to see it 👍👍
The western door of Moria did not stay closed that entire time. We know, for instance, that Gandalf used the western door to exit Moria during that time. Has anyone done a story on Tolkien mistake in using the word "Moria" on the western door, even though that name had not been used at the time the door was made?
I would love to see a video on the second age

Fun fact: Historically, blacksmiths did not take part in wars as a general rule. They were considered much more valuable making the weapons, tools, and armor that others used to fight the wars. Even when towns and cities were sacked, blacksmiths were often spared so they could continue to ply their trade for their new lords. This is, in part, why the last name "Smith" is so common.
What's funny is I have 7 neighbors with the surname Smith on my street and none of them are white or even related to each other.

Oh you're here too. Unexpected but defintely not unwelcome
He deserved better! By killing the elves of Ost-in-Edhil, Sauron destroyed the last remaining symbol of the city of Gondolin. Celebrimbor was such a noble character, yet he was tortured and killed in the worst way imaginable. Justice for Celebrimbor!
Justice came 4000 years later.
I'm guessing he played no part whatsoever in the Kinslayings; otherwise he'd have realized he too was under the "Whatever you start for good will be turned to evil" curse.
Celebrimbor also doomed because he carried blood of Feanor just like Gil-Galad.
Eh he would be rebodied in Valinor and live his second life there anyway. Unlike Feanor or some bad elves(of which there are few) elves can come back to life.
@@artimuos903 No he actually rejected the oath. I think he was just forced to come along because of his father.

It’s hilarious that Rings of Power suggests Celebrimbor never thought to mix metals or work with Mithril when he created Ithildin nearly a century earlier. Sure ‘Definetly-not-Sauron’ was around Eregion at the time but it’s farcical to suggest that alloys were a new thing to him.
Celebrimbor literally wrote spells in Mithril on the dwarf doors
So much death and destruction because of the inability to take rejection from a romantic interest in the stories of the Fall of Gondolin and the betrayal of his relatives against Luthien and Beren. Celebrimbor is a wonderful contrast to this in the way he treats Galadriel. Tolkien really did write him as such a noble and likable character, which makes his manipulation and fall that much more depressing.
Celebrimbor is one of the most tragic characters of middle earth, and one of my favorites. He was one of the greatest Smiths, second to his grandfather.
Celebrimbor is such a tragic character :/ I'am excited to see him in upcoming series

To be honest, I first began to know the character of Celebrimbor when I started the Shadow series. They made me delve deeper into the character arc of Celebrimbor. I'm a real Tolkien fan, I really like the original Celebrimbor... but to be honest, I like the Shadow Celebrimbor better. It's maybe because that he gets more part to play in the game's storyline.... we get to know him better, even if that's not really part of Tolkien's works. But even in the game, something evil comes from Celebrimbor's creation... for example his New Ring.
By the way, loved the video😊
Did you know that the writers of the game collaborated with the screenwriters of the movies? If you consider the movies to be a separate canon, like a LOTRCU, then the games are in fact canon.
@@Soulslayer612 ugh please don't put that out there, those game stories spit in the face of Tolkien, creating a new ring of power? Ridiculous. The movies (lotr) at least don't contradict Tolkien's lore, the games story most certainly do so i don't see how they could be considered any kind of canon. Great games but awful stories, should've just made them its own new IP. Even the timeline is way off, its like the game writers did no research into the actual middle earth story
@@corvus2512 agreed, the games disrespect for the source material makes them unplayable for me.

Could you imagine how sad the Dwarves must've felt when they heard/saw the fall of Eregion and the death of Celeborn? The Gwith-i-Mirdain were great Smiths like the Dwarves and so you coukd imagine the friendship the two realms shared also ment that, when Eregion fell, the Dwarves that helped Elrond escape fought ferociously to avenge their friends...even if that's not cannon I'd like to think it is.
Brilliant detail of Jackson to put in the ruins of Ost -in -Edhil.
I always think of the crafting of the Rings as the final curse of the Doom of Mandos, since Celebrimbor is Feanor's grandson. They were crafted to provide their wearers with the power and wisdom to protect their realms, but ultimately drove their doom. "On the House of Feanor the wrath of the Valar lieth from the West unto the uttermost East and upon all that will follow them it shall be laid also. Their Oath shall drive them, and yet betray them, and ever snatch away the very treasures that they have sworn to pursue. To evil end shall all things turn that they begin well"
You’re definitely my favorite LOTR-related channel. I just love the way you explain things and the storytelling in your videos. Even the ones where you have to come up with your own ideas, like the “What if Gandalf took the Ring” video. Thank you for all you do! :)
I am astonished at your depth of understanding of Middle Earth and your incredible spacial awareness that binds all this magical material together. You are a formidable scholar of J.R.R. Tolkien and he would be most proud of what you have accomplished in his wake!
Wow! I love how you make your videos with the moving pictures on the map etc. It makes it easier to understand and imagine. I use your videos to share with friends who haven't read the books or aren't into the lore, because they're interesting and easy to understand. Keep it up! :)
Can you do a video on the different groups of Elves? The Noldor, Sindar, Teleri etc?
How did these different clans come about? How did they interract? What's their history and cultural differences (if there are any)?
Who are some of the notable people from each clan? Which clans do our favourite heroes from LOTR belong to? (Legolas, Galadriel, Celeborn, Elrond, Glorfindel etc)
I hear Noldor and Sindar especially mentioned a lot in lore videos, but would love to know some further context about who they are.
This is actually on my list already, as I often have to remind myself who is who when it comes to all the elven groups! Great suggestion!
Noldor are high elfs which are the normal gold armor ones u see, galadreiel, celeborn, elrond, gil galad are all noldor
Sindar are grey elfs and another royal type elf like the noldor, they most famous examples are thran and legolas but legolas might be half silvian
Silvian elfs are wood elfs like taurel from the hobbit moives they're the elfs of the greenwood (murkwood) ruled by sindar
Then u got vanyar which are light elfs, basically the elfs who never left valinor but they did fight during the war of wrath in the first age, a part of galadreils family is vanyar which is why she has part golden hair
Then u got dark elfs who are the dudes who never went to valinor and never saw the tress so u know they didn't get bathed in light = dark get it lol not really important can't think of any famous examples
Sea elfs, the dudes who build the ships of elfs in valinor, their the ones who got slaughtered by feanor in the first kin slaying, oh yea feanor and his sons and descendants like celebrimbor are all noldor too
@@donpula6349 why did u @ me ?

I think it'd be cool if you made a "what if" video on if Shadow of Mordor/War were canon and their effects on the world.
Honestly I thought Celebrimbor was a made-up character for the games until I started watching your videos.
Absolutely. That game series is amazing and I think it should be considered Canon because it honors LOTR so well. Just like real world ancient stories they always change and evolve with the years and the mouth of the teller, they didn't follow some Canon. Canon a tool of the modern day copyright and trademark, a dark tool of the worst dark lord of them all- the Copy Right Strike.
Shadow Of Mordor/War is just so well done.
Bow before the Bright Lord!

@@pharaohsmagician8329
The first game maybe.
The second game… not so much. My big problem has to be how Tailion’s story ended in the epilogue and the “Blade of Galadriel”.
I love those games but lore-wise the Tolkien fanbase remains a bit divided on them. Namely, Talion being a superpowered being in a series where the talents of the heroes are more natural.
@@NathanCassidy721 BoG story ruin the game for me it broke the game lore. Monolith change the story too far "Female rogue nazgul" and remember talion have a ability to resurrect orcs/gondorian wights in the game but doesnt use it when the fort in cirith ungol was vulnerable since hes captains died it just doesn't make sense

Celebrimbor seems to be the first in the line of Feanor that wasnt a douche. ok so yes he probably helped in the kinslaying and burning of the ships (wrong place wrong time? :)), but he was young. seems like he redeemed himself, only to befall a horrible fate (reminds me of the road warrior scene where Sauron is humoungus). loved this video, anything through the first age really helps. P.S. my girlfriend loves all your voices, especially gollum. she is now one of your video junkies as well. I came for the Gandalf, but stayed for the Celebrimbor.
Feanor's first son, Meadhros is pretty heroic and wise. He tries to convince his farther not to abandon Fingolfin and to not burn the ships, hands over the kingship to preserve unity, restraints his brothers multiple times and even unites the elves and men in the Union of Meadhros against Morgoth after Fingolfin made his desperate challenge.
Tragically after the death of his closest friend, Fingon, his mental state seems to suffer and driven by the oath he leads the second and third kinslayings.
Maedhros, Maglor and Amras are all noble spirited. Amrod too, bending the story version. Also Caranthir had an usual amount of character development for a 1st Age character . Anyhow, I love the whole Fëanorian family

Epic! We need a Feanor, Sons of Feanor and a Mandos video.
mad respect for Celebrimbor, who loved Galadriel even tho she married another, enough that he made her beautiful and powerful jewelry to help her grief and sadness over Middle Earth
Shadow of War series was incredibly well made in my opinion. They used the lore while respecting it; creating an epic story out of it that is believable and in bounds for what i believe tolkien would have respected.
I have never liked so many videos on one channel as Nerd of the Rings, absolutely love it!! I’m currently playing LotR Shadow of War on ps5 while listening to the lore and histories of LotR! 😁

Hello my frend! Another great story. Elves in video games and Tolkien lore are my fav race of people. I soak up any lore that delves into elves.
After Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War game movies, i came here to learn about Celebrimbor. Although the lore from the games is not in the LOTR books it is also good because it runs in paralele with the ore and does not come in conflict with it. The story about how Celebrimbor is captured and tortured by Sauron is presented in the games but they also add a bit more lore to flesh out a nice story. I like the way the game devs created the story and did not step on the toes of the LOTR lore while doing it.
This is my favorite elf of the SA. I cannot wait to see him on the show.

Beautiful story telling, once again!
great video man! nice lore
about the doors of Durin, after Sauron is driven back they would open them once again for years... until the Balrog of Moria came, it wasnt 4000 years after...
Fair point. I should have specified - they wouldn't be opened from the outside until 4000 years later. Gandalf also exits them at one point
@@NerdoftheRings maybe also Elves that wished to go to Lorien and went trough Moria... at least most of them, not the Sindar... also think Galadriel passed them after a few times... but who knoes...
Its just that Durin III and the Longbeards Dwarfs lived long after the downfall of Sauron, and grew richer inside the mountain for years... so they lived there after, they would probably come in and out sometimes trough the doors... for trading or something

I doubt Rings of Power has the guts to give Celebrimbor his true death, and I’m kind of upset that Galadriel will be taking Elrond’s place during the war. It’s hard to enjoy the show knowing it’s so different from true canon.
Another fantastic video, man. Thanks you so much for this content.
Can't get over the fact that the name "Curu' fin" in romanian means smooth behind, in a polite translation for this community. :))
I know I'm new to the channel, but I am not new to Tolkien, having read TLOTR, TH, TS, TBOLT 1&2, & UT multiple times over decades...my opinion & insight (I feel) does have weight. So please bear with me.
I have noticed, in a number of videos, that you state that a number of elves, men, dwarves that fought against Morgoth in the Wars of Belariand "could" have fought in the War of Wrath. It has long been an understanding of mine (based on the text from The Silmarillion) that NONE of the inhabitants of Belariand (especially those of the Noldor who went into exile from Amon) took part in that war. I can't quote you the text or tell you exactly where it is stated. But I am fairly certain that this is the case. NONE of those who fought Morgoth in Belariand fought in the War of Wrath. That was completely fought by the host of Valinor that came from The West.
Just making a point.
Still love your content!!👍
Imagine how good a story would it have been if all their motivations were intertwined in the storyline of celebrimbor's story and that storyline would have been an amazing tragedy to work upon.

Such a great video! I really hope they do him and Gil Galad justice in the Amazon show.
Thanks! I hope so too. He definitely has potential to be a stand-out character on the show.
At this point dude, it's hard to say. They'll probably make him a trans elf lord, who betrays his people to join Sauron, and then starts making rings of power for hobbits.
@@marcofdelos I don’t know how people can be exited for an other “brand’s” butchering. Of course it’s gonna be a horrible gender/race turd.

In Unfinished Tales the dwarves strongly imply the ring given to them by Celebrimbor was also untouched by Sauron. In my head canon I see it as the practice piece Celebrimbor forged before embarking on the creation of the Three. And if we go with that possibility would it then become the Ring of Earth completeing the elements theme?
This is why you can’t make a second age show with out access to first age material. Celebrimbor taking part in the first Kinslaying and being Feanor’s grandsons are enormous character points completely omitted from Rings of Power.
Is there any place to read discussions about Celebrimbor's position during the 3th kinslaying? Was he in Sirion? did he fight against his uncles? I really need to know.

Hi Nerd of the Rings, love your work! Just a small thing, I’ve noticed on a few of your videos where you show Vilya (the Ring of Air/Elrond’s ring) the picture is that of a cheap/fake/plastic reproduction that I’ve once bought before (mistakenly). If you are to represent the 3 Elven Rings as the films portray them as shown by the other two, might I recommend using a better picture for Vilya? As the actual prop for Vilya worn by Hugo Weaving in the films has a gold band and sapphire and not the silver you show in your example picture. Again, I love your work and content and I’m not criticising I promise, only pointing it out to further improve your videos! Hope you’re doing well and having a great day! 😊
Ps. Narya has a golden band also. If you are wanting to represent them as they appear in the films 😊
I think you are the only right person to ask this. Why did Narvi and Celebrimbor write Friend in Sindarin instead of Quenya, the language of Ňoldor if I recall correctly made by Fäenor
I'm thinking celrbrimnor might be a narrator of sorts for the amazon tv series
Kinda puts an edge on Galadriel’s moment where she banished Sauron to Mordor. The dude in werewolf form completely killed her bro.

If I recall correctly, and knowing full well that this comment is two years past real relevance, these doors were opened at least once more briefly.
Of the group of dwarves that sought to retake Moria and were trapped within, one group attempted to escape through these doors and were met by the Watcher. Which would indicate that the doors were opened during the attempt.
Another great video!
Very well done... Thankyou Sir!!! 😀❤
I am so confused I didn't think Celebrimbor was alive during the Kinslaying, was he? I don't remember anything being told about him until far after the sons of Fëanor left Valinor. I definitely could be wrong I haven't read the books, I have however done extensive research on the silmarillion and listened to over 40 hours of the silmarillion explained from different sources. I am also halfway through listening to the silmarillion on audio book. So granted I definitely could be wrong but I don't remember that.
Edit: "The character of Celebrimbor does not even appear in the Silmarillion as Tolkien wrote it. In Lord of the Rings he is introduced as merely a Noldorin craftsman with no special ancestry. However, at a much later date Tolkien decided that Celebrimbor should be a descendant of Fëanor, and in the 1966 Second Edition of Lord of the Rings he added a note to that effect in the revised Appendices. But that left him with a problem. In his own words: "How could he be? Fëanor's only descendants were his seven sons, six of whom reached Beleriand. So far nothing has been said of their wives and children".
It was only at this point - by which time Tolkien was 72 years old - that he even considered how Celebrimbor might be related to Fëanor. The decision he reached that Celebrimbor was the son of Curufin was done largely through a process of elimination. He concluded that based on the story Maedhros was probably unmarried, and so were the two youngest sons; and Celegorm must have been unmarried since he planned to marry Lúthien. So that left Maglor, Curufin and Caranthir who probably had wives. Since Curufin was his father's favourite son and the one who inherited most of his crafting skills, it seemed most appropriate that he'd be the one to carry on the family line."
OK so I'm under the impression you are actually wrong with that fact, He did not take part in the kinslaying nor did he take the oath of Feanor he was not there nor was he born yet.
If he was alive he would have only been a child, So what have had no reason to even be at the place they swore the oath.
Dang makes shadow series that much more profound. And yes I know they aren't canon idc

It might sound weird but I messes with my head that in Tolkien elf lore all these great elves that died are literally reborn in their bodies after some time. So more then likely during the events of Lotr all of these guys were chilling in Aman.
Nice video. But a note: The western gate of Moria did not remain closed all the time between the war against Sauron and the crossing of the Fellowship. Gandalf states that he passed Moria East to West and obviously opened the doors to exit. Also: During the attempted recolonizing of Moria, Balin sent several dwarves to East to seek help... being trapped in Moria and cut out from the eastern gates. Oin was one of the dwarves sent and died taken by the "watcher"... so... yeah... the doors must be open to let that happen. Keep up the good work.
Sorry about that. I didn’t catch it til after release, what I should’ve said is that it remained closed from the outside. 🤦♂️
The doors of Moria did not remain closed until the Fellowship opened them. Both Gandalf and Aragorn mentioned having traveled through Moria at least once before the Fellowship had been there.
Apologies. I meant to say from the outside. So the West doors were not opened from the outside until the fellowship.
I thought I was about to have my first Professor Frink moment by pointing this out! But, nay, Micah was there.
Now, @Micah, Aragorn doesn’t go through this gate I think (maybe I just read that in fac fic, though?). Also, don’t forget that some of Balin’s company go through at their end, also! Presumably “on the regular”? They sound like they knew about the Watcher and weren’t learning of either it or the high water for the first time when they’re meeting their doom and cannot get out. We guess, then, that Balin’s company never pass the gate and allow it to shut behind them? They wouldn’t know the password! Glavin.
Sorry to be that guy, but orodreth was finrod's brother not nephew. But I love all the videos! Keep up the cool topics!
Great video!
When Celebrimbor was at the Havens of Sirion, he would have witnessed his uncles attacking in the Third Kinslaying. Maybe even fought them. And after the War of Wrath, I wonder if he went and found his uncle Maglor wandering the shores and asked him about his father's death in Doriath. Though he probably heard about it from Galadriel and Celeborn. Still, the account of someone who cared about his father vs. someone who had reason to really, really dislike him (for both Beren and Luthien and the sack of Doriath) would probably make seeking out his uncle worth it. But also no less painful.
I am completely appalled by the way he is depicted here🥹 Celembrimbor is a middle aged short hair Aristóteles style clothing who walks around like he just been sacked from the Romans senate. Ohh wait… that was an year ago 😂😂😂
I first Discovered Celebrimbor in the Games
This is the most interesting facts I enjoyed 👌, can't wait to see more of this.
