I think Celebrimbor, had he been any other Elf, would not have been fooled by Annatar. However, Annatar was able to take advantage of the ambition to be greater than his grandfather to create a glamour that obscured his perception.
Celebrimbor is the story of overwhelming ego in the face of greatness. His ambitions for the "greatness of Feanor" made him vulnerable to Annitar's influence, like every other character swayed by the words of the Master deceiver. Ego is THE single greatest weakness displayed by all Men, Elves, Dwarves and most noteably, Orcs, w/ their constant squabbling and in-fighting. Every great story is the tale of sensibility overcoming the ego's force on man's nature.
I dont think Celebrimbor was weak, or at least not in a direct sense. Anatar and by extension Sarumon (apologies im bad at spelling LOTR) is a master of manipulation and seeding desires in those full of ambition. Something that Celebrimbor had since heblived in the shadow of his grandfather. We think of the elves as perfection, but truly, they have flaws, too.

13:34 I don't think Celebrimbor was a fool or a pushover. Sauron wasn't too powerful to resist either. If Sauron had had the ability to invade the minds of others so easily, then he would not have needed to invest time and effort in the Rings of Power. Sauron intended to create the rings as keys to directly access the minds, interfere with the senses, of others in order to watch and control without going through the entire process of psychological manipulation. I think Celebrimbor and the Mírdain were susceptible to being deceived because they might have lost _Amdir_ (Hope) in the Valar, before the arrival of Annatar. They lost hope because they witnessed the decay of the perishable lands and inhabitants of Middle Earth. The Mírdain might have thought: "Morgoth is no more, however harsh winters still occur in Lindon and Eregion. The Valar still control the elements, but their influence is not enough to heal the scars that Morgoth left on Middle Earth". The mírdain grew impatient. - "The Valar decided to stay in Valinor. However, we the exiled elves chose Middle Earth, and our mission now is to strive against the decay of these lands." Then Annatar Aulëndil arrives (after a thorough study on his preys) and proceeds to validate the thoughts and desires of the Mírdain. Annatar encourages them and gives them Amdir again. The Mírdain then assumed they were crusaders, knights of a sacred order, in a holy mission against the decay and perishable nature of Middle Earth. Sauron just had to fuel that idea and to deliver knowledge and results. *No need for magical mind tricks or an intoxicating invisible aura of mental numbness.*
In the Shadow of War video game, especially the Blade of Galadriel DLC ending, it hints that Celebrimbor could become the main antagonist in some future video game sequel.
I think that Celebrimbor went to Gondolin after the fall of Nargothrond, that he came to the Sirion deltas with the exiles after the fall of Gondolin, and that from there he went to Lindon because of the War of Wrath.
@@gingerbaker_toad696 Celeborn does not exist in the Hobbit movies (to have Gandalf and Galadriel) and in RoP (to have Sauron and Galadriel), while in some versions, he is the lord of Eregion in the lore

I hope all the fans vote up this comment: Broken sword, could you take your time to research an episode of how “the choice” would have been presented to the half-elven? When it was decided that they could choose to live as eldar or as edain how was this explained to them? Who explained it (the velar?) and how informed were they of their choice? Again this is speculation so take time to research. Finally, speculate if the the half elven blood lines knew more about the afterlife and suffered the “Cassandra syndrome” or did they keep the secrets of the choice from elves and men?
I have an unrelated question. For a moment it looked like Aragon might not marry Arwin. Who else would he have married? He would be responsible to carry on his line, but if not with Arwin, then who?
You got the lesser rings wrong. The smiths of Eregion forged uncountable lesser rings as research, we don't know how many there are since many were recicled in new rings and it can be assumed many were given as gifts, kept as tokens of progress and so on. Only then did they forged the 16 rings of power and Anatar left. After that Celebrimbor made the 3 elven rings just to prove he could forge them without Anadar.
Well, it seems that Rings of Power decided to make all Great Elven legends stupid and dumbass in every possible way and Adar and orcs are actually the good guys who just want to live happy but because of dumbass elves they cannot.
