That is so, but also he gave the ring of fire to a worthy person because he really did not need it. The ring of fire was made to amplify destructive powers and to aid in combat. I’ve been recovering from eye surgery and while I temporarily have no depth perception, I’ve been binge watching your channel. I’ve read the Hobbit and LOTR trilogy, but never made it through the Silmarillion. So it’s nice to get these little snippets you put together from that, the unfinished tales and Christopher Tolkien’s. It really expands the world and creates amazing depth. Thanks and cheers.

I'm a huge Tolkien fun and I found out about this channel only 1 month ago. I've already watched all your videos related to great characters, but I was wondering why nothing was told about Cirdan in a dedicated video. And here It Is !!! Great job, you are a wonderful story teller.

A must-watch channel for any Tolkien fan. Keep up the good work!
Yo this dude really needs to get props for his pronunciation of everything. It sounds so perfect and brings out the beauty in the language and is no easy thing to pronounce so eloquently.
I love that you put in the amount of years before and after the release of The Nature of Middle Earth in your videos. It gives a great amount of context and helps me readjust to the new time of Middle Earth.
Whenever I see these histories of Elves or other very long lived beings I think "boy they had a lot of down time". Despite all the wars and travels you are probably looking at 90% or more of his life just hanging out, working on his ships, and generally doing elf stuff with the occasional big event occurring.
I'm really enjoying the Complete Travels videos, especially the ones about characters I might previously have considered 'minor.' Excellent work. Thanks.
Would love to see a video on Halbarad and the Rangers of the North who come to Aragorn’s aid in Return of the King. We get so know so little about that group and their lives from the books and basically nothing from the movies.
I must say, it’s already my favorite lore, but your videos really enhance going back and watching/ reading LOTR. I’ve picked up the books again, with this channels in depth look, all of Tolkien is even more enjoyable than before. Thanks for your channel!!
I love this channel. Woke up and poured some coffee and got to hear about one of my favorite characters in Tolkien’s world! Cheers and happy holidays to all of us left behind.
Just finished The Silmarillion for the first time and noticed how much of a presence he was in the background (both in TS and in LR Appendices). I really appreciate your content. My favorite Tolkien channel.
Cirdan enabled the Elven diaspora from Middle Earth, he helped to build the last Elven safe havens in the late First Age (of the Sun) when Morgoth's armies were running amok in Beleriand, he built the Gray Havens, he redirected the first Numenorian Army in the Second Age when Sauron threatened to take over all of Eriador and the north-west of Middle Earth and thus saved Gil-Galad's people from Sauron, he also gave Gandalf the Elven Ring of Fire which helped ensure Gandalf's mission became a success. And above all else he suffered sea-longing for tens of thousands years, he watched hundreds of thousands of Elves leave Middle Earth while he stayed behind and he STILL made sure to provide the last ever boat to set sail to Valinor and ONLY then did he at last sail to the undying lands. He was there from the beginning of his race and was there when Elves left Middle Earth entirely. Legend!
Every time I see the maps in videos like this I'm curious about the "little" things depicted, like castles, towers or various others names of rivers, lakes, small mountains, small patches of woods, etc. I guess not literally everything has something to talk about, but it still intrigues me.
Yes, one of my favourite characters! Absolutely love your video. I always wondered if Cirdan had children or a wife of his own, he seems like the perfect husband and father.
I love how much effort my man puts into the pronunciations of various Sindarin or Black Speech words. Really shows how much a scholar of Tolkien he is - and how into the subject matter he is.
Just read the Appendix A section on the North Kingdom and the sunken ship. Wanted more info on Cirdan and felt like I manifested this lol. Awesome video as always!
Off topic from Cirdans amazing character, but one of my favorite illustrations from all of your videos is when you describe Morgoths forces at 7:15 as sad as it was for the elf’s, I can’t help but think how badass Morgoths forces were compared to Sauron’s orcs of the third age.
Nowë Círdan and his life is inspiration to all people. World would be better place if there is more man like him. 12:22 Gil-galad looks like: " That's not good, I don't like it." I like your videos. 26.7.2021 I was watching some Thranduil's videos and accidentally found The Complete Thranduil's travels, so I decided to watch it. During time I watched videos from your channel, I learned some new information, especially in this video. Círdan was one of most mysterious Elves for me, before you made this video and I watched it.
As someone, who hasn't read the books, I wonder how there didn't seem to be any animosity or a sense of betrayal between Celebor and Galadriel, since the latter more or less "abandoned" the former for the time being, when she boarded the ship without him... Do you think there was a mutual understanding, that they'd someday meet again in Valinor, when the time was right and it's just a "mortal-thing" to think otherwise? ;) Also, brilliant, or shall I say "mithril-like" content, I love how you make one feel as if you were talking about real ancient history, looking forward to the next one
Tolkien wrote that for the Elves it was normal for the husband and wife to spend even long periods of time separatedly, as they pursued their own goals. Galadriel and Celeborn lived apart already earlier, in the Second Age. So when Galadriel chose to pass over the Sea before Celeborn did, from the Elvish point of view that would be normal and acceptable. That said, you can hear from Celeborn's words to Aragorn in RotK that he is saddened by Galadriel leaving already, as it would be a while until they would see again.
Crazy that I haven’t seen this one. It popped up in my feed today. 3/19/23. And though we don’t see eye to eye on some of the new adaptations, your work brings great joy to Toilken fans everywhere. Thank you.
An amazing character and one of so many that you just wish they'd have made some more time for in the movies. Hopefully he will play a big part in the TV series and just hope the writing and acting does this incredible character justice. A huge responsibility for those who will write and portray him.
Cirdan epitomizes the virtues of faithfulness and selflessness. He kind of reminds me of someone who gets stuck holding open a door as people keep streaming by. Though I’m sure that he was happy and fulfilled in aiding others to go to their reward, I suspect that each sailing must have been tinged with weariness as it was not yet his turn.
Well done my friend! Cirdan and Glorfindel are my favourite Elves in all of Tolkien's works. Keep up the good work, I love listening to you and the other amazing Tolkien content creators as I walk my dog Samwise Gamgee every night. 😊

It would convey the meaning and the person's identity to those who don't speak Elvish.
yo, these are Elvish versions of "Moon Moon."
@@TalancirDo I hear a Gundam ZZ reference?
I’ve been recovering from eye surgery and while I temporarily have no depth perception, I’ve been binge watching your channel. I’ve read the Hobbit and LOTR trilogy, but never made it through the Silmarillion. So it’s nice to get these little snippets you put together from that, the unfinished tales and Christopher Tolkien’s. It really expands the world and creates amazing depth. Thanks and cheers.
Thanks so much for watching! So glad you are enjoying the channel and I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery!
So cirdan is an :
An accidental hero or Merlin
Legolas Greenleaf: I'm the bro-est Elf bro.
Shipwright the Cirdan: ...Hold my boat.
"hold my boat" has caused my spirit to fly to Mandos.
This channel is like comfort food. Thanks for doing this :D
Nerd, this story brought tears to my eyes. You not only know your ME history, but you tell it as though you were there. That touches the heart. Namarie.
Cirdan is an under appreciates character! Made it through so many ages and wars, he does not get enough love, i hope that changes with the new LOTR prime show.
It's amazing how every last character in Lord of the Rings has his own detailed backstory
I'm a huge Tolkien fun and I found out about this channel only 1 month ago. I've already watched all your videos related to great characters, but I was wondering why nothing was told about Cirdan in a dedicated video. And here It Is !!! Great job, you are a wonderful story teller.
Man Cirdan was such an awesome character I didn’t know how great and good he was, thanks a lot for this video!
This video is by far, one of my favorites from Nerd of the Rings. So detailed, sophisticated and well done.
The day TomDaBombadil19 isn’t on the Patreon credits is the day this channel truly days. The mad lad has become iconic at the end of these vids 😂 I always wait to hear our favorite boi mentioned at the end despite me knowing absolutely nothing about the patron!
Amazing video man, keep it up! Can't believe how underrated this guy is, even though he appears in the stories of almost every age. I used to have trouble understanding the Silmarillion, but now I no longer do. Not to mention that you're videos are sooo much fun to watch, even the videos that tell me stuff I know already. A must-watch channel for any Tolkien fan. Keep up the good work!
True sigma chad of Legendarium. He just stood by the side, doing his deeds, and yet his impact is incalculable.
I can literally feel the amount of love with which this video was made. Hats off!
Whenever I see these histories of Elves or other very long lived beings I think "boy they had a lot of down time". Despite all the wars and travels you are probably looking at 90% or more of his life just hanging out, working on his ships, and generally doing elf stuff with the occasional big event occurring.
Hurray! I've been waiting patiently waiting for this one. one of my favorite characters in Tolkiens world!
The very same generation with those Finwë, Elwë, Ingwë. This elven-granpa taking care of those elven-brat until the end of time. Respect!
You sir, are becoming one amazing storyteller. Keep up the good work!
You really have a gift of bringing to life the depth of each of Tolkien's characters.
Love these videos!
Truly one of the greatest elves, because he exemplified the true purpose and nature of the Eldar.
One of the best fantasy characters ever ❤️
As usual GREAT VIDEO ❤️
The story of Cirdan is the story of Middle Earth. What an epic being who impacted the lives of so many.
Incredably high quality videos, big thanks
Fantastic video, really well told and explained of a truly wonderful, honourable, loyal, brave, wise and extraordinary selfless character.
"No homies get left behind" - Cirdan probably
Finally got around to watching this one. What a great video about a great part of Tolkiens world. Thank you!
I love the portrayal of Cirdan in season 2 of ROP. Such a gentle loving and wise character
Just read the Appendix A section on the North Kingdom and the sunken ship. Wanted more info on Cirdan and felt like I manifested this lol. Awesome video as always!
Finally some acknowledgement for the most unsung Hero in Tolkien lore. Well constructed! Loved this
Off topic from Cirdans amazing character, but one of my favorite illustrations from all of your videos is when you describe Morgoths forces at 7:15 as sad as it was for the elf’s, I can’t help but think how badass Morgoths forces were compared to Sauron’s orcs of the third age.
Nowë Círdan and his life is inspiration to all people. World would be better place if there is more man like him.
12:22 Gil-galad looks like: " That's not good, I don't like it."
I like your videos.
Do you think there was a mutual understanding, that they'd someday meet again in Valinor, when the time was right and it's just a "mortal-thing" to think otherwise? ;)
Also, brilliant, or shall I say "mithril-like" content, I love how you make one feel as if you were talking about real ancient history, looking forward to the next one
Thank you.
Probably the most important elf in the history of Arda. What a tale!
An amazing character and one of so many that you just wish they'd have made some more time for in the movies.
Hopefully he will play a big part in the TV series and just hope the writing and acting does this incredible character justice.
A huge responsibility for those who will write and portray him.
Gotta say, I am always moved by your selection of music. It really helps make the videos.
Great story!
Idea for future video: history of some of the famous jewels, like Elessar
Cirdan is so AWESOME!!!
always good to hear about shipwright the shipwright, he does good work... as a shipwright.
A video that i've been waiting for a long time!👍
Thanks nerd! Happy Saturday
Cirdan epitomizes the virtues of faithfulness and selflessness. He kind of reminds me of someone who gets stuck holding open a door as people keep streaming by. Though I’m sure that he was happy and fulfilled in aiding others to go to their reward, I suspect that each sailing must have been tinged with weariness as it was not yet his turn.
oh, i bet Cirdan's arrival party in Valinor was Awesome!
As always love the detail and in-depth info you bring
Thanks so much! So glad you are loving the vids!
Happy to see my fan art listed, this is the happy moment of making fan art.
The art in these videos is absolutely amazing
Well done my friend! Cirdan and Glorfindel are my favourite Elves in all of Tolkien's works. Keep up the good work, I love listening to you and the other amazing Tolkien content creators as I walk my dog Samwise Gamgee every night. 😊
I’m rewatching this video🔥 I love the great city’s of Middle Earth. The Gray Havens sound so nice. I’d like to go there.
I can just imagine the look on Cirdan’s face once he finally gets to see “white shores, and beyond them a far green country into a swift sunrise.” I can imagine it would be a complicated mix of happiness and relief.
He's Noldor right? Hadn't he seen them before or stayed behind?
@@samoht5674 no Cirdan was a Sindar Elf. He’s often grouped with the Noldor because he supported them when many Sindar would not
@@TheMasonK Ah, now I remember. Thanks for clarifying.
@@samoht5674 we’re all here to learn! No problem in asking a question!
@@TheMasonK I always feel so bad for Cirdan, watching everyone else leave as he stays there building his ships for 10,000 years. Can't imagine how it must have felt for him when his own ship finally departed.
another absolute banger! love my man shipwright the shipwright
Good thing there was already material to binge when I found this channel.
Sauron's patience, profound as it was, is overwhelmingly dwarfed by Cirdan's. That unbelievable streak of constancy and dutifulness combined with the foresight to give Narya to Gandalf instead of Saruman, cements his legacy as the Elf's elf. Shoutout Cirdan the Cirdan😏
It is SO exciting when I see a new video on this awesome channel!!! Thank you, sir!
Thanks so much! :)
