My 1949 oil fired steam boiler never leaked to the day I replaced it, in 2009, converting to nat gas service. 60 yrs old. Neither did any of the cast iron steam radiators. American Standard.
Merry Xmas and happy New Year Mr Steve!!! Love your vids and appreciate your sharing of knowledge and experience....3yrs ago I was told my system was shot and 8k to replace....i barely get by and that would have been impossible for me to pay...i watched your vids for 3 days straight( couldn't sleep lol) and was able to rebuild my fire box, extreme clean system changed nozzle electrodes etc....my system has run like a champ since!!!! In short I just wanted to say THANKYOU once again for your on point videos....you truly saved a family of 6!!!!! God bless!!!
Nice to see you help a guy out and try that stop leak stuff, all the new guys would have just given a bid to put in a new service. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years. Be safe out there!!
Happy Holidays Steve all the best !
I had a Weil Mclaine leaking on the bottom like that about 10 years ago. I tore it completely apart and put new rubbers seals in it. It was a huge job but I had the whole summer to do it.
Steve saves the day again. Something new to me first time I ever saw you use that stuff.
Hey Steve-
We had a similar situation. We bought a house with a Burnham installed in '99. We bought the house in '04. In '06, it started leaking when it got hot. Literally pissing out about 2 feet due to a porus casting. Luckily the warranty covered the replacement. So far, so good. 🤞
Thanks steve if i ever have to use that solder now i know it works for certain cases. Great job
I have a Weil Maclain boiler , it was leaking but not very bad like this one , I used this sealer stuff for 2 years , not working , some plumber with a good faith like Steiven told me to use OAT I got 2 cups of my oatmeal boiled it and dumped from the pressure relief valve pipe , it works perfect for the 2nd year now , thank you Steven
Merry Xmas and happy New Year Mr Steve!!
enjoying your vids, I have an American Standard built in 1938. The hardest thing I went through was getting a gas valve for it when then heating season started this year(2021). I been watching so I’ll know what to look for and be prepared when the time comes. I have it serviced every year since I purchased the house in 2000. Which is a good replacement boiler that you recommend?
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍
Boiler seals great!! Little tip for newer guys. You can’t use boiler seal on a steam boiler if the leak is from the top.
Good follow up on this project.
Steve, I had the v-73 boiler also/ they are know for bad casting/ got a replacement block so far so good.
Love the ride. Looks like Winter. He sounds like a fan lol. I kind of miss the heating season. Not that bad to move. It’s A/C and Florida for me
Nice job Steven !!! That was something !
Good one, Steve. I have had mixed results with that stuff.
Great video, should seal it like a car radiator.. same approach
6:13, there is a shutoff valve for the expansion tank, good idea, so you don't have to drain the system to replace it!
Yes, I installed them on my expansion tank and air bleaders. Future proof it..
Steve, it's great that you try money saving attempts first rather than just replace the boiler. As a result, this guy might be able to get a few more years out of boiler. Also, if you ever decide to give up plumbing for a living, you could go on the comedy circuit! Be well, and Happy new year.
Slide [Sh-t show] Steve stand up would be hysterical. Stories from the plumbing crypt !
I've has great results with Tech7 Plump for small pipe leaks.
Great video! I’m going to try it. Hope it works. Don’t need this happening right before vacation 😢
Still needs a new boiler, just bought some short time to build up the bank account, give the man an estimate Steve
Got that right !!
I have a property with 3 90 plus burnham alpines put in 2009. Ready for replacement. They’re garbage. The larger of the three has had 4 fan blower motor assemblies in its service life and 3 main boards. Very maintenance heavy.
Nice work and saved the customer a ton of money. Squeeze every last but of "the manufacturers profit" for that boiler by keeping it running as long as you can :)
Did the one for the car didn't go so good. The pierless we have has replaceable sections we did replace one and it worked, nut no leaks!
You got a tool for the truck there now dude! Pity you have to drain it before pouring it in. It's alot like the car radiator stop leak
Ahh yes the great Burnham boilers I remember them so many warranty replacement on these follow by the Utica steam boilers fun times.
Good job Steve.
Nice one.
Lol. I have a 2017 oil fired Burnham just like that with domestic coil, you don't know how good this video made me feel.😆
merry xmas very good wish you did work in The Bronx new york I would hire you for some work in my boiler
Maybe Steve's going to stock that leak sealer on his truck for those who like kicking the can down the road..maybe a Burnham stocking stuffer lol.
Anything to prolong the pain of buying a new boiler!
I like you when the homeowner asked you a question you shut him down real quick
Hi Steve, well i've got a Leakham v14a-t that has a slow leak from the decomissioned tankless coil. The replacement cover plate is back-ordered with no eta. Do you think this stuff is worth a try as a stop gap measure until I can get the appropriate part?
Thanks a lot
Leakham should include a supply of Hercules boiler sealer with the boiler. They can call it "complementary" like that shot of cheap tequila at a crappy Mexican restaurant. Good video Steve! Mery Christmas & Happy new year!
Next level next level! Lol
I once used old fashioned Quaker Oats Oatmeal and it worked great !! I used a lot lol
Burnham RS-112 boiler here, installed in 1993...still running strong.
Steve ! Love your videos!
You ever eat at Barcellos ??? If you do say hi to my old boss Butch Belanger !
You might know him you’re both French he grew up in Fall River westport area. He’s a Hardwood floor guy great area to live down there.
God bless thanks for your videos.
Hot and cold expansion the metal moves can't see powder fixing it for long.
Jb weld works the balls. The trick is the prep and being patient. We have a few with the jb on it and it’s been years.
didnt know you could put stop leak in a boiler good to know i guess last resort kicking the can down the road lol
It's really good to see a customer catch a break. But boilers don't last forever.
Your a good man Steve someone else would have sold him a new boiler !!!!!!
Will this stop leak just stay in the boiler or will it push through the hot water fin tube and plug it up .steve???
still will this stuff work if the leak is above the water line ( top of heat exchanger) ?
u are a good man steve, most plumbers will ask you to replace the boiler.
This guy is amazing a real mechanic!!!!! No propress queens here baby!!!!
Can these products be used if you have hot water baseboard heat?
Bars Radiator Stop leak used to work pretty good on vehicles. It looks kinda like The Stuff that You just used.
The alumiseal is the best. In fact it is or was used by oems on specific engines from the factory. I use a tube Everytime I do a flush and fill on my vehicles.
Old cure was pepper. Grind up and dump in the radiator of the car. Pepper finds the hole, gets stuck in the hole, swells up and stops the leak. never tried that with a home heating radiator. Would smell good every time the heat comes on!
GM had a version of it when Cadillac had their issues after they stupidly used iron heads on an aluminum block in the 80’s.
Subaru did too, lots of issues with those popping head gaskets into the coolant passages.
What a pro.
The running commentary in the background is hysterical.
If he had a better slab he probably wouldn't be dealing with a leak Wight distribution uneven floor sounds good to me
I'm surprised it worked.
Steve, really enjoy your videos. Does the boiler seal work on cast iron baseboard radiators ? I have 2 spots that leak between the sections of the radiator ?
ITS MADE FOR BOILERS .IT MIGHT WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT THE RADIATOR .. THIS STUFF HAS TO BE MIXE WITH HOT WATER ..I KNOW THERE IS A 3/4 PLUG UP ON SIDE OF CASTIRON BASEBOARD .MAYBE YOU CAN GET SOME IN THERE ..
Thank you for responding..
Steam or hot water ? For seem leaks I use JB weld. Works great with steam radiators. With hot water I would drain the radiator first, dry the area, lightly sand the crack that is leaking, wipe clean and simply apply the JB weld (epoxy for metal) over the leaking area [use your finger]. Allow to cure over night and that should do the job. I have done this many times and it is a quick easy fix.
The other method is a pain. Take the fins apart and seal with auto hi temp silicone seal and put back together. A real bitch job!
@@ricktomlinson5481 @Rick-thank you
Sounds like you were working on one of the Griddle Guys house...
👍
Boiler Seal. Brought to you by Leakham, the boiler that leaks as it heats.
We got a leaker steve
When u were putting that sealer in never laugh so hard
I would rather change out the boiler for peace of mind ..but good to know this can work in a pinch..
Sounds like you're at Art Carney's house..
Nice. Will that work on oil steam boilers too Steve?
Yes it will if the leak in on the bottom of boiler
Hello Steve! She’s a leaker momma!
you cant try tighten up the threaded rod holding it together ?
@stevenlavimoniere . Hey Steve I have a 4 section Weil McClain hydronic boiler with 2 air handlers. It has a small leak with this clog up the coils in the air handlers? Also how much do I use? The water btu is 126,000 and the hgt water cap is 145,000 btu. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Also worried if it will block my 2 zone heads
Cool that it worked. Buy him some time. Now he can save up to replace the old leakham!
this guy has a brothinlaw thats a good plumber / heating guy ...that originly installed theses boilers for him .. he is a good friend of mine ... i am sure he would do the replacement for cost ...this guy just dont want to borther him .he is always busy... he told me last time i was there he would give me 1500 in labor to replace it i laughed .. besides there is a spiral stair case on this job not a east one
Steve, What brand of transfer pump do you use? Is it just for water or can it be used for oil? Thanks, Ed. W
www.supplyhouse.com/Wayne-55832-PC4-1-2-HP-Cast-Iron-Transfer-Pump-w-3-4-Garden-Hose-Adapters
this one can be used for oil or water but you have to prime it first
@@stevenlavimoniere Thanks Steve, Supplyhouse is one of my suppliers. Ed. W
That customer was awful loud. Must be Patriots fan.
Looks like the customer saved big money!
I have the same unit hope its not a leaker ma ma
If that didn't work and you had to replace the boiler would you have still charged him for this initial service or absorbed it in hopes of getting the replacement job ??.
Steve, that is the first time I saw you accept the offer of coffee! You and "Bogie" take it the same: black w/ no sugar.
Holy shit..... Let the guy work..
It’s been about 3 weeks Steve, is that still holding up for him?
YA SO FAR SO GOOD .. I HAVE HAD BOILERS LAST MANY YEARS WITH SEALER IN THEM,
I used just a quart in 130 gallons...stopped almost instant
She’s a leaka. Mama, she’s a leak cam
What I wanna know is how the heck do you drink black coffee? That's rough!
Nice 👍 save him months to couple years maybe
did it work?
I can't believe that boiler is from 2004, looks more like 1954. I've got a Crown steam boiler from 1995 that doesn't look half as bad as that. I guess I'm one of the last chumps who takes care of his stuff instead of beating off to net porn all day long.
Just so you know crown does not make there own sections. They use to be Dunkirk, then Chinese, now burnham. Yup burnham.
She’s a real gusher momma!
Should have told that guy they are hiring at bell helicopter.
Oh mama, she's a fuckin' leaker
Would this leak seal work on a steam boiler?
YES
@@stevenlavimoniere However, some stop leak products can eat away the sealing material between the cells. Weill-McLean [boiler manufacturer] does not recommend using it in their steam boilers because the leak will get worse as the stop leak eats away at the leak area and the other seals as well. The product Steve used is not familiar to me and it looked like clay and safer to use.
How about JB WELD?
cant stand annoying customers
Always worth a try .
That boiler is 17 years old and looks like shit. My natural gas fired Burnham is from 1972 and is running great. Looks new too.
you mean December 26 haha you know what your doing for sure.
NO THIS VIDEO WAS FILMED A MONTH AGO IN NOVEMBER
i lost track of how many sections i helped replace..pain in the buttocks..
I had a Burnham spring a leak, right through the casting, only a year or two old! They gave me a new boiler, but not labor. Never again with Burnham, or Amtrol expansion tanks, I had one of those spring a leak right through the side, it flooded my finished basement to the tune of ten grand plus in damage. I have no luck with heating equipment.
She's a _________ momma!
Stop leak bought me a year on my 10 year old Burnham before the leak came back. Replaced with a Weil McLain. Very happy with the new Weil McLain.
Steve Almighty!
👍🏻
A Leakham doing what it does best. Glad the boiler seal worked!!!!!
mama its a leaker
