- Many patients wonder if it is worth it to start minoxidil for their hair loss. A common misconception is that minoxidil is only helpful in the crown. Dr. Josephitis of Shapiro Medical Group talks about the uses of this familiar medication.
Im using for 5 months and I got grown some on the hairline. Keep using it twice a day, it’s itchy at first but you’ll get used to it.
I've been using it for over 20 years and yes it works all over very well, it makes my hair look fuller, I use it in conjunction with Vit Zinc & D supplement
Do you also take finasteride?
Did you suffer initial hair shedding??
Take low-dose minoxidil. I take 1.25 mg. My dermatologist emphasized low doses for it to work. I had low expectations.
Boy was I wrong. The combination of Minoxidil and Propecia is a winner. It works. Period.

I took biotin. My hair starting growing back on temples and top. I stopped taking biotin and not seeing same results

Finasteride will make the testicles very painful. Facial hair will become thinner too. Weakens your voice too making it difficult to sing higher notes. Side effects makes it not worth the risk.
No wonder, it’s a testosterone blocker.

Hi Dr. Great videos, very helpful since I just had my FUE Transplant. Quick question for you, would it be safe to use Finasteride with creatine? If creatine can increase rate of DHT, would finasteride negate this?

Creatine doesn't affect hair unless you somehow produced more testosterone thru exercise. The effect would be almost zero.

@@jbarnes4521 definitely not enough evidence. the current body of evidence does not indicate that creatine supplementation increases total testosterone, free testosterone, DHT or causes hair loss/baldness
Testosterone and dht are completely different testosterone itself isn't damaging to hair at all
Doc love for you to touch on Rogaine and it's side effects on aging the face which has been reported.
There is no evidence to suggest this--just garbage you've read on the internet.

@@jamesolney3456 yes I know but I mean does I have to cover every single hair follicle when I apply minoxidil or if I apply near it the capillaries will take it near that follicle ,as I am suffering from diffuse hairloss and thinning all over my scalp and I have long hair so it is practically impossible for me to cover every hair follicle..

The story is that everybody is scared because of the following thing: if you stop applying Minoxidil, ....😰😰!
Or if you will have to stop it for any reason, you will shed at a fast pace and you will get bald very quickly!! Its really confusing...
the shedding phase is not extreme in most cases imho
This is a common concern I hear from patients. I always tell them these medications are used to help keep you from losing hair. As long as you are using it you are holding back hair that would be lost anyway. When you stop taking it, yes, you will start to lose hair. It may be at a slow or fast rate. Everyone is different. This is all hair that you would have lost had you not taken the meds in the first place.
I give the analogy of brushing your teeth daily. Sure it is not fun, and if you are doing it right, you won't get any cavities. You also have to do it for the rest of you life. The minute you stop brushing regularly though you will stop benefiting and will start tooth decay.
The same is true of hair loss meds. They work only as long as you use them.

was using minoxodil twice a day for last 6 months, started getting heart palpitations, was quite scary,
stopped using for 2 weeks and never had an issue, might reintroduce with only once a day Instead of twice
How does it give you heart palpitations if it’s on the outside of the body? that might sound so dumb but I’m genuinely wondering
@@truchris8649 Skin is absorbent, when minoxidil is applied it is absorbed and makes its way into the bloodstream.

i had more gains win my ears and arms , than on my hair!!! know i use gloves to use liquid minoxidil, have used for 6 month andd didn´t almost no results on hair, even microneddling, and finasteride give me gyno even with small dosage, im fucked
I use oral minoxidil for scalp hair loss, and it works. I was hoping it would give me a thicker beard, but I unfortunately didn't notice any difference with my beard hair. But I am OK with that because my lack of scalp hair is what bothers me the most. I'm also on dutasteride, which I'm sure is effective at preventing further hair loss.
Hey doc. How bad is the shedding when you first start?
It was quite bad for me for almost 28 days but my hair stopped falling after that ...1.5 months until now , waiting for results on my temples

@@JK_360_ i still have head full of hair, scap not visible .I was noticing my thinning hair, a widespread thinning from front to back from some years but when i started to lose my temples ,i freaked out and started this topical Monoxidil, recently added microneedling.Never took finasteride .Hair still there but i can easily look into my depressing bald future everyday i see in the mirror. Will go for prp after my anatomy exams are over . Goodnews is that Pyrilutamide is around the corner
