Great info as always. Just wanted to add onto your DPS/HPS aren't everything. Particularly with healers, if your raid is doing what they need to and avoiding as much damage as possible from the boss, you will have less to heal, thus lower HPS. Also, a raid running with less healers will have healers with HPS. If you are killing the boss and nobody is dying to lack of heals, you did fine. It can still be a good idea to study those that have performed well though in case you find yourself in that situation next time :).

@@AlbelNoxful1 hmm true. I guess I would want him to explore what healers work well with each other (timing CD's), special tips and tricks for the different healers that are not obvious or maybe just interesting/cool.
I think this is a good primer. I might have missed you explicitly mentioning this, but I think a problem you can run into looking at the top parses, especially as a DPS, is that the highest parses are usually achieved by padding. Depending on your class, it can be really hard to do a lot of fights "correctly" and still parse 99. As a ret for example, I could parse high if I spec for AOE and pump adds all fight long, but my boss damage will be atrocious. Those adds do probably need to die, but I'm not typically going to be the best person to kill them because AOE is more inefficient for my ST than other specs. So you might need to exercise a bit more judgment based on knowledge of your class when selecting which logs to study. Make sure they are doing their job in the raid, rather than playing for the parse.
I do just want to say that this is only a good method if you want to know the way to do the highest numerical damage or healing, but this can in some rare cases be a suboptimal settup and playstyle to actually play with in the fight. For example, the highest boomkin logs on Danny boy are always going to be stellar drift soul build because of the Aoe pad, but if your raid needs single target to burn in p3 instead of aoe for some reason this won't be the right build for you. Use the logs but try to sanity check everything you read
I created the 2.5% spread of rejuv legendary on my druid and tested it in LFR. It was so bad, but i see more than 75% of the top players by healing crafted this.

How would a tank version of this work? apart of watching the talents + items? Since you can only filter for damage, but we would like to get the best info for tanks, and damage isn't the best factor to look at.
generally the tanks doing the most damage are able to optimise so well for damage *because* they play the fight so well defensively, unless you're looking at end of tier logs where they just overgear the content. Tanks pumping huge dps numbers in week 1 are able to do so because they know the best way to use their abilities defensively to stay alive without needing to rely on defensive trinkets, etc. And you'd learn the defensive rotation in a similar way to the disc priest example. You'd start by looking at the tanks cast sequence, seeing where he uses defensive abilities and comparing that to his incoming damage taken from boss abilities to see which defensives he dedicates to what.
I don't know if you shared it but I'd love to have that vd raid setting, don't know how to config it so it changes to another profile when I'm raiding so I either switch to healbot or have a very clunky setup with the 5-man frames. Healbot works just fine but it'd be more a thing of looks and only having to go through one set of shortcuts
Does your UI automatically change depending on whether you're in a 5-man vs. a raid? I notice that it looks quite different between dungeons and raids.
When looking at a fight, you can switch from "Damage" to "Damage Taken", or you can stick with "Damage" but switch a little drop down that says "All Friendlies" to the boss (or adds) name. In the latter case you are basically looking at the Boss like it's a player which is very useful. "Casts" is also a good tab to look at so you can see at what point in the encounter abilities are cast by a player or an enemy. It's great for figuring out rotations of actual players as opposed to what guides say. Here's a "Casts" of a Mythic Hungering Destroyer fight for example: www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/y24KDX1mcx7Q3fZW#fight=16&type=casts&hostility=1&source=75 So this isn't very intuitive, but if you click next to a ability/spell name it will show up on the graph above, by default it only show the top ability. If you click on the actual ability it'll take you to a screen that only shows that which is kind of useless, so click next to the name, not on it. This allows you to toggle on and off abilities/spells to focus on what you care about.
Hey Growl! I put a comment on your UI video, perhaps you didn't see it. Could you please help with your Raid UI? I have your 5-man group UI and it's great. I'm not good at Vuhdo and I don't know how to convert it to a raid set-up like yours. Thanks again for all of your help!
If you're new at logs, do be careful about measuring "parses" for healers though, esp. in prog. raids and esp. with 5 healers grp. It is a really bad metric to measure how a healer perform during that encounter, and largely depends on what you're playing. If you're a disc with SS + CoM, you'd generally have higher parses due to how it's calculated. If you're holy, then you can pretty much say goodbye to your parses, not even the top 5 holy has anywhere near "good" parse numbers.
Rdruid suffers from other healers healing. It's one of the main reason their healing is considered as bad in raids. Loads of fights requires quick healing after big bursts of damage (hello Denatrius) and hots aren't enough, even if you stack them and let mastery do the work. Druid has one of the highest HPS among healers but it's tough to get it out when you have good mates alongside you. It's impossible to get max value from a hot when you have a pally or hpriest blasting big heals and permanently topping everyone off with a single GCD. You'll get more value from rdruid in raids in high constant damage fights (council of blood, innerva, sludgefist) than in bursty fights. The only way to minimize your overhealing is communicating with your fellow healers and sorting out a proper CD rotation. Also, don't be afraid to let other heals do the big ST heals. I'm with a disc priest, a monk, and a rsham and I let the monk and rsham get the people who are really low because their classes are better at that, and that regrowth is a huge mana sink in raids and has very little value outside of incarn, which is the opposite of sham and monk that have a mastery that makes their flash heal good. I mainly focus on setting up bursts when needed, and preparing a big HoT blanket for when shit gets rough. See druids as a class that needs ramp up. You know that a big dam is coming out soon ? Start spreading rejuv 10s before the burst, 8 minimum, then wild growth right before damage comes out, convoke if needed, flourish if no flourish in convoke. If you don't overlap CDs with other healers, you'll get big value out of this.
The guy doing the "blblblblblblbl"-noise at the end is the MVP of your guild and has to be protected at all cost.
