This spiraled so quickly into chaos. Biggest take away I got was do your keybindings however you want because everyone has different sized hands and and different sized brains
I'm always pretty surprised when people don't bind: Shift/Ctrl + Space Shift/Ctrl Mouse wheel up/down That is 6 extremely easy binds to push, especially the mouse wheel.
Space is a bad keybind. Especially if theres movement and you need to jump. Like youre spamming jump and you gotta use another shift+"button" youll end up always accidently hitting shift/ctrl space.
Move: WASD (A+D as strafe) Core abilities/rotation: Q, E, R, F + shift modifier for the same keys. Lighter cooldowns / additional rotational: 12345 Major Cooldowns: Shift + 1234 Utility keys: G, T, V. Mouse side buttons (+shift modifier) are for placement abilities and movement abilities. Usually i dont need any more binds than that.
Try shift space and ctrl space for movement stuff like blink. I use similar keys to you, (minus the t and v) and it was a game changer. Allowed a ton of defensive and move speed stuff to be on my mouse where I can panic press them. So like, on mage. Shift space Is blink. Ctrl space is door of shadows/nf ability. For dk, shift space is wraith walk, but deaths advance is f6 (mouse).
I feel like I need another video where you just throw out a button type like “covenant ability” and then let each person answer one-at-a-time so everyone can berate the people that have weird binds.
I understand that everyone is different and has adopted their own personalized movement patterns, however after listening to the mixed opinions in this video I believe mine make a ton of sense, so here they are… WAD - Movement Q - Main class ability (roll, ghost wolf, stealth) E - Interrupt R - Trinket T - Dispel or Taunt (if class has dispel and taunt then shift T for taunt) S - AoE Spender (dance of chiji, fan of knives, thunderstorm, etc) F - execute or slow G - snare relief (freedom, sprint, tigers lust, etc) Shift G - mount Z - low cool down defensive (evasion, tigers eye brew, etc) X - oh shit button (ice block, pally big bubble, karma, etc) C - stun V - placement ability (frost orb, earthquake, frost trap, etc) 1 through 5/6 - main rotation) Shift 1 through 2/3 - more damage CDs Shift 4/5 - pots Mouse wheel up - flash heal Mouse wheel down - cancel cast Arena targeting F1 through F3 Hope this helps! Please add any suggestions or additions.
Everyone has their way, this was mine that I just wanted to share. Sorry I deluded your amazing brain with such useless binding advice. I do hope you feel better now you mentioned your clearly more superior methods. I am now a more humbled peasant. Thank you for this great contribution @Rémy Boivin.
I absolutely love this kind of stuff. Always I retesting to hear, I think the most important take away is having all your buttons that do the same or similar things on the same binds. I use w/a/d to move and strafe, s is my active racial ability and shift s is my covenant secondary
People will grumble and moan about balance and content as always, but keybind discussions is where the real interesting stuff is! (1-5, then (F, G, X, C, M4, M5) + Shift/Ctrl/Alt mods for me)
SteelSeries Merc stealth, best wow keyboard ever. Scroll up and down for Main abilities, scroll wheel press for aoe, mouse forward button for CC, mouse back for dump/damage, 7 for interrupts (Merc stealth layout), dash 8. Additional binds: scroll right left, G, R, V, Function keys for cooldowns, tilda for oh shit buttons(bubble, feign death, Emerald communion etc). For healing I use mouse over click label with shift, alt control modifiers, and scroll up down. Standard movement keys, standard menu keys.
Q for filler, E for 'main' ability or second filler, like ice lance or demonbolt. R is usually most damaging rotational spell, sometimes a spender like hand of guldan or eviscerate. F is interrupt 1 is main cd 2 is defensive 3 is movement ability V is aoe filler or builder T is also some kind of aoe button Idk those are just some of mine
We're kinda similar then. Q and E (shift, ctrl, alt) are all my damage abilities. Rebound strafe to A and D. R are stuns/CC F is interrupt G are movement abilities like Disengage, Fel Rush T are some random abilities like Feign Death, Misdirect etc 1 is offensive abilities (Bestial Wrath, Aspect or Meta) 2 are defensives 3 other big cds 4 are buffs like Battle Shout X is selfheal, shift-X health pot, control-X healthstone Also use Shift-C and Control-C for some abilities like taunt, mend pet etc.
The most important thing is to put off GCD buttons on easily accessible binds like mouse buttons or E, F, R. For example, when I play WW, sometimes I have to pop fort brew, karma, tiger, images, and maybe an interrupt as well, and your key binds need to enable that.
Kick = F, Tranq / sooth (Shift-F) Taunt on E (while tanking, otherwise its a clickable somewhere on a bar), Q is the rotational button that is only pressed once every 10 / 15 sec (Purifying brew), R is always bound to some type of frontal aoe skill like Firebreath or Typhoon For some reason my speed-up / mobility enhancer is always on V (Velocity). Any type of main defensive goes on B (arkskin) Both these are so easy to reach with the thumb Aaaan I use Alt-f4 for my "Ooooh shit" button.
QWE is the superior movement setup this allows u to hit A and D without having to take your finger off your movement keys try hitting E while moving with D.. you have to physically take your finger off the key binding Q and E to strafe right/left allows u to slide into A and D much easier for a stun/silence
This is exactly the reason why I love WoW because it's fun to get really serious. It gives you tremendous amount of pleasure just by planning your keybinds. The same goes to planning my nameplates too.
movement: esdf rotation abilities: aqwrtgvcz12345 make capslock ctrl, use ctrl and shift with pinky for healer click binds CDs: on open rotation keys or extra mouse buttons as needed (druids...) ctrl and shift with index finger keys (rtgv5) for CDs This maximizes keys easily accessible near the movement keys, particularly pinky. Since pinky isn't needed for movement. Their scorn for esdf movement is funny; it's better in every way. Most keyboards even have a bump on f, making it easier to find.
Just want to point out, using mouse + a lets you strafe left. Mouse + a + s lets you strafe even harder left w/o starting to turn your wrist with the mouse. keeping "s" around for the backpetal is just intuitive because although niche in wow, it can be very important in other games.
And he just seems like the nicest guy teaching newer players. If he could be the person people talk to when they try wow for the first time it would be a better place 😂😂
I would like to hand out a pro tip myself for keybinding! I made a spreadsheet where i ranked keybinds 1-3 depending on how easy they were to press. THEN i put in spells/Abilities depending on how important they were into a keybind slot. Like Mount, not very important (Shift+H for me), ranked 3. Insta heal, Rank 1, needs to be fast and easy to use(G for me). (for example) Also another tip is moving your entire left hand 1 "click" to the right. This free's up a whole lot of combinations on your left side while you can still reach your modifiers. Like who uses Caps Lock? Yeah noone, so there you instantly have free 3 combinations with modifiers
Ah another person who knows the value of the ESF movement keys haha very nice! I use the same logic as you from there with priority of use on abilities. I take it one step further and have spell positions on my action bars set up to mirror the keyboard as well
WSAD for movement Q,1-4,E,R for rotation, Q,E,R + modifier for short cooldowns (30-45s) 1-4 + modifier for trinkets and consumes Mouse wheel (click, up and down) for movement Modifier + mouse wheel for offensive cooldowns Z,X,C,V (+ modifiers) for CC, but C is always an interrupt F,T,G (+ modifiers) for defensives, but G is always the "oh shit button" ~ for racial (EU keyboard so it's between shift and Z) I play on mac, so my preferred modifier is cmd (which is at the same spot as left alt on Windows). It's much easier to press it with my thumb than to stretch my pinky to shift.
So funny to hear everyone's takes on the movement keys. As someone who used to mainly pvp I didn't have a key for moving backwards but, now that I play more pve backward movement can be useful for slight adjustments on dodging ground swirlies. I use e for forward s and f for strafing and shift d for moving backwards, saving d for another ability bind. I find having the movement keys shifted to the right opens up more keybinds.
You should make the same style video where everyone discusses buttons but for each class/spec, place each classes buttons, that way everyone can consider each classes differences.
For anyone looking for new binds, F1-4 are great binds for things like healthstone and pots, kinda out of the way, but easy to find without looking. I also use F5-8 for pet summons or auras and F9 for mounting up.
And the best idea is getting a keyboard that has a split Spacebar, with a Function key in-between the two Spacebars, so you can use F1-F5 (or F6) on the same keys as your regular number row, except you just have to shift your thumb that's sitting on your Spacebar slightly to the right to hit the Function key. I use 1-6, Shift + 1-6 and F1 - F6 for my abilities, and my fingers never have to stretch for anything, and my hand remains in the same place for all of them.
I've always put my spam button on 2 because it feels more natural to my hand, fireball, frostbolt, then spenders on 1, pyroblast, flurry. Instants on 3, ice lance, fire blast.
Didnt watch the whole video yet, but the big 'insight' ive come to over the years is that when strafing with A and D, there are 3 key binds i can use in all cases when strafing: 2, 3, E. So on every class any core abilities that i need to use while being able to move go to those 3 keybinds.
For me? I strafe with AD, so QE are free use. I also unbind backpedal, so S is available. So on every toon I have, Q is my core CC. Because cc makes someone QQ. S is silence. On each toon, their interupt goes on S. spell lock, counter spell, pummel, mind freeze, kick, doesn’t matter.
i'm listening to the keybindings on a qwerty keyboard, and i raise you: Razer Tartarus Pro. Movement with the tumbstick and spells on 03-05, 08-10, 13-15.
WASD movement (strafe a-d) I have 7 buttons in the mouse(+shift and +alt) so 21 Q,E,R,T,F (+shift and +alt) 15 more “F is always my stun on every too” Also scroll up and down with (+shift and +alt)
Very interesting to hear all those pros talking about their keybinds but at the i feel it's individual preference who makes the best keybinds to themselves
Couldn’t agree more. I adhd and I could never learn how to play with a normal keyboard. But then I watched a video from hazelnuttygames in which she used a razer naga mouse along with a gaming keypad. I decided to try it out myself and something in my brain just clicked. Thats what enabled me to finally become a decent player.
'F' and 'G' to strafe, Mouse4, and Mouse5 forward and backwards. 'F' and 'G' with my little and ring finger, (left) thumb on RALT. All keybinds on the rightside of the keyboard with my middle and index fingers. Essentially it means my fingers moving my character are not used for any keybind. So it doesn't matter what direction I'm moving, or if I'm changing direction, not one keybind, nor execution order of keybinds will conflict with my movement keys. H = Cobra Shot, U = Kill Command As a basic example, during Bestial Wrath, Cobra Shot resets Kill Command so you do a lot of CS -> KC -> CS -> KC -> CS -> KC ... I can strafe left and right, forward or backwards, in circles around other players, whatever I want, there is no confliction between my rotation and movement because the fingers are mutually exclusive. Unlike WASD where you can't strafe left and press 1 -> 2 -> 1 -> 2 -> 1 -> 2, not without origami hands.
All these guys here - pressing shift, ctrl, and alt manualy. me - I have ctrl/alt/shift all as mouse buttons rather than a specific ability on the mouse. My keybinds *generally* Movement keys W - Move forward Q - strafe left E - strafe right S - Move backward (rarely used, but does come in handy. Especially in some scenarios when tanking and want to move something just a little bit) Mouse right click - For all other movement options. It's pretty common for me to maneuver with strafe + mouse on fights. Manifested timeways comes to mind. or kiting around a boss while keeping melee uptime. Mouse buttons 1-3: ctrl/alt/shift. the quickest for my thumbs to reach and my thumbs are always resting there. turns all of my basic 1-5 binds into 4 binds. so i can quickly reach any of near 20 skills. 4-5: These are often used for stuff I want keybound, but aren't really specific to anything. I've put beacon here, I've put a hotkey to spam waymakers, one to clear waymarkers. etc. center mouse button pressed - Short Cooldown Defensive (Feint/blur) scroll up - non dragon mount scroll down - hearthstone mouse button 3rd main click - dragon Mouse wheel right click - Hard CC 1 (Kidney Shot) Mouse Wheel left click - hard cc 2 (Gauge) note: for the mouse wheel right, left, and click - those control druid forms when playing druid. as does scroll up (travel form) Main hotkeys 2 and 3 - spammable rotational abilities, or heavily used abilities. Generally my builders if that class uses them (Sinister strike/pistol shot | Fracture/Soul Cleave) 1 and 4 - occasionally used rotational abilities. Tend to be spenders, or something slightly longer cd but still core to ratation (Between the Eyes/Dispatch | Immo aura/Spirit Bomb) 5 - occasionally used or situational abilities, if i have a spammable AoE finisher it often goes here, with spammable AoE builder on 4 (Throw Glaive) 6 - rarely used abilities. usually something that I don't need often. This is often not even bound to anything (Provoke: all tanks) Shift buttons (mouse button modifier 1) 1 - generally a dash or mobility skill (Grappling Hook | Infernal Strike) 2 - Interrupts 3 - occasional class skill, and tank active mit (Steath | Demon Spikes 4 - AoE stun, or additional movement skills (Sprint | Chaos Nova) 5 - situationally used skill (Crimson Vial | Felblade) 6 - situational skill 2 -(Vengeful Retreat) ctrl (mouse modifier 2) 1 - If i need it for rotation it's there. (Shiv | Fel Devestation) 2 - generally some type of buff, or utility skill (Slice n Dice | Fiery Brand) 3 - Healthstone 4 - ST stops (blind | imprison) alt (mouse modifier 3) 1 - longer cd rotational. (Ghostly Strike | Sigil of silence) 2 - Moderate cd (Blade Rush | Sigil of Misery) 3 - occasional AoE skill (Blade Flurry " Sigil of Flame) 4 - occasional rotational ability (Roll the Bones | Elysian Decree) 5 - rarely used. F keys F 1-3: Often offensive cd's. usually try to put any paired cd's close together. as my muscle memory hits f2 pretty reliably. F1 is usually a major tank defensive cd used frequently. ctrl + f1-3: Tend to be major defensive cd's, and immunities across the board. be that tanks, dps, or heals. Additional f1-f3 are entirely situational. Some classes have extra's that I need bound to alt or shift. but most of the time it's unneeded. All of my f keys will have a minimum cd of 1m. Often longer. Even my assasination rogues kingsbane + dance window is bound to alt + 3. . . note - but again, I have 3 mouse buttons for the modifiers. so it isnt' really akward to pair alt, ctrl, or shift with any other bind. but for obvious reasons I don't have any of them bound to f4 . . . just in case I get in the moment and accidently keybind f4 shortly after pressing an alt modifier elsewhere, causing an unfortunate side effect . . Which may or may not have caused this very adaptation.
my binds consistent to every game F key (fast) for dashes/movement R for interrupts T for CCs . C for awkward short cds . X for some defensives. then shift 1-4 for big cds, V for racisl
Mouse to move only, two mouse buttons to strafe, one to target. fingers rest on E R T and Y, and you move up and down from there. 2-8, w-u, and s-j. you can move and cast anything at the same time. Press alt with your palm. EZ. not a single keyboard movement key
Everyone has very different hand resting positions too, like the way my thumb naturally curls in makes hitting keys like xcvb super easy for me but i know some people would go into full on cramp mode trying that.
I don't know about everyone else but my movement abilities like roll leap ect are shift space bar because I always rest my thumb on space and there's always a finger resting on shift
The speed at which ESDF got disregard was egregious! Maybe it's not the case for pro gamers but for us common folk, my hands naturally line up on a keyboard on "asdf" like I"m typing. Pressing keybinds and typing will then use the same muscle memory and you get the added benefit of having the "f" key which allows you to easily get your hand in the correct position if you ever need to move your hand from the keyboard for any reason.
I type at an average of 150-160 WPM and I orient my left hand's fingers on WASD. Putting your fingers on home row is the type of shit they just tell people who can't type to make them feel like they are following tried-and-true methodology to keep developing their skill. WASD is also nicer for using Shift and/or Caps Lock for capital lettering and symbols and so on.
@@Frawt I’m sure you can learn other ways to type, having both my hands on the home row(actually forgot that’s what it’s called lol) just feels natural for me. I’d imagine if you did type from wasd position you would prefer gaming from that same position. I think more ppl should give it a try if they type from asdf. Maybe it’s the size of my hand but I’ve never had issues pressing shift either. I don’t remember when I made the switch from wasd to esdf but I know I’ve changed my keybinds in every game since. Absolutely love it.
Shout out to changing Q and E. I remember doing that when WoW first dropped (came from CS), and having the strafe on the Q and E keys was too strange for me. I remember about 18 years ago showing my buddy my rogue, and he was trying to move and gave me crap about changing those keys. WELL LOOK WHO'S LAUGHIN NOWWWWW!
esdf is actually the best way to manage something like the 20 binds in wow without retraining the wasd muscle memory that comes from literally every other game.
Put your left hand on the keyboard. Where does it land naturally? ASDF, logically S and F would be strafe, E is forward and you don’t back peddle. S and F also have the little bumps so your hand finds itself where it should be off of feel.
for all my non tank chars I use 1-4 and alt+1-4 for all my target attack/heal abilities, 1-2(alt) for single target, 3-4(alt) for aoe (with heal friendly damage enemy macros) r,t alt+r, alt+t for slows, stuns, grips, or self mobility actions f, alt+f for interrupts and focus interrupt ` for purge dispel with friendly/ enemy macro g, alt+g, shitf+g personals mouse extra buttons and alt+ for big cds
Im an esf enjoyer. It was weird for a bit after years of wad for movement but it was so worth it. Not only more binds to the left but i can reach alot of keys on the right side of the keyboard with my thumb. I is mount for example. Mana gem on j Shift H is mana shield, h is ice barrier when u start using your thumb all the bottom row keys become great binds too
WASD to move forward/back and strafe, 1-6, shift+1-6, Q,E,R,F,T,G,C and shift variants of those, side mouse buttons for trinket/racial, middle mouse button ptt. ctl comes into play when shifting forms. if I need more I can incorporate V or X. Z is a little too akward for me to hit so I don't use it.
as a left hander, move keys WASD, interrupt (F), hard CC (T), mobility (Q), spammable most used (E/R), taunt (mouse side button), buffs ALT+1/2/3, defensives F1/2/3, debuff on (\), spenders/generators on 1-2-3-4, rest of the keybinds CTRL+1/2/3/4, CTRL+`, Z, X and MMB. everything is easily reached, no way there's better keybinds lol
I'm a lefty too. My setup is a bit 'unique' :) The mouse handles movement and I have 1-6, Q-Y, A-H +CTRL modifier gives me almost enough keybinds. The keyboard sits off to the right a little with thumb on ctrl and wert is 'home' for the fingers. It works for me :)
tank can do some backpaddling like prots doing claps on slowed mob with just beeing in leeway or normal range If you wanna move backwards just backstrafe with cam and A n D you dont even need to put strafe on any button since you can just hold rightclick and move in any direction you want if you wanna strafe right just WD and use cam as always also most people just never learned to backstrafe which is essential for casters to gain distance in pvp for ex
I basically learned I am basically like jpc but I use A and S for movement and my modifiers are my mouse buttons. Pretty similar otherwise. Kind of made since to me at the time and haven’t looked back.
Awesome panel & discussion. But would really like to know how many of them actually use a keyboard and mouse with 3 buttons. Having entire movement on your thumb just makes things much easier.
I am confusion, I use QWERT for my five main ST abilities, 1-5 for aoe/role stuff F1 for interrupt F2and F3 for stuns and slows F4 for defensive or off heal And F5 for covenant ability. Shift 1-5 for class stuff I.e heavy mitigation on tanks or big heal cds for healers and Ctrl+QWERT for potions and such ctrl+1-5 for weird things I barely need with control on a mouse button. What the heck are these guys doing using wads for movement? Innefficient use of keys. I’ll make a keybind video for these guys
This video made me realize that somehow I approach keybinding in a way totally different than all of you (and the majority of players, I assume). I do not use number keys at all for spells, I use them for potions only. And I have the majority of my keybinds on my mouse (Logitech MX Masters 3 for Mac). Also, I DPS via mousover on party members unit frames and use macros to use party members' targets as my focus, which I then do damage to. And that's why I use target in a way people usually use focus - i.e. I target mobs I interrupt. So I do not use focus at all, as I use it passively for dpsing. I was aware that it's different, I just was not aware how much. Huh.
Not sure how old you are or how long you've been doing that, but I'd be careful of hand stress doing that. Most people have to tense their hand to hit mouse keys, which is okay, but spamming those buttons over hours and hours is a bad type of stress on your hand.
I use a gamepad and an mmo mouse... My movement is a joystick on my left thumb on the gamepad... x.x; Rotational abilities are 1-3, and 5. Spenders are 6 and 7. Movement abilities (ghost wolf, blind, roll) is 4. 8 is covenant ability/neck ability/legion artifact ability. 9 is defensives. 0 is taunt/rez/utility. A lot of my major cooldowns are on macros, like ctrl+alt+1 is wall, ctrl+alt+2 is big 3 min cd. Shift 1-4 is aoe rotational stuff. Shift 4-7 are utility stuff/stuns. My healthstone/healthpot/kyrian phial is also macros ctrl+alt+5 and 6. ctrl+alt+7 is kick... Gamepad also has B, C, M, N, space, tab, shift, ctrl. Easiest way to explain is my main is brew. So 1 is BOK, 2 is tiger palm, 3 is rushing jade wind, 4 is roll, 5 is keg smash, 6 is breath of fire, 7 is SCK, 8 is kyrian ability, 9 is celestial brew 0 is taunt - is RoP. Shift 1 is crackling jade lightning, shift 2 is transcendence, shift 3 is teleport, shift 4 is leg sweep, shift 5 is paralize, shift 7 is tigers lust, shift 8 is trinket, shift 9 is purifying brew, shift 0 is target statue and taunt, shift - is revive. ctrl+alt+1 is zen med, ctrl+alt+2 is purifying brew, ctrl+alt+3 is invoke nuizhao, ctrl+alt+5 is healthstone ctrl+alt+6 is healthpot ctrl+alt+7 is kick ctrl+alt+8 is gateway toy, ctrl+alt+9 is hearth.
I’m surprised more people don’t use mouse wheel up/down for spammable attacks. Shift+mouse wheel for movement abilities. I set it up years ago and haven’t been able to go back
Chow big brain. Def put my spam on mouse. Trigger for single. Shift+trigger for aoe. I can easily hold shift while moving so it just flows easily even in aoe.
I have a G502 mouse, and the G8 button is bound to CTRL. I use 1-6, shift 1-6, ctrl 1-6 and then the same for qertfgzxcv depending on how many keybinds the class uses. Brew, Hpriest probably use the most, then my MW. I basically have access to about 30-36 keybinds from my left hand and it never has to shift over or move. and of course, WASD for movement (strafe, no turn)
What I learned is that nearly everyone does it differently. Who would have thought. I use arrow keys and an external keypad. everything I need right there.
noob playing since tbc: A for target SDF for strait and forward 1234, QWER, TG, CV mouse scroll up+down (control scroll up down for zoom) control+ 1234, control+qwer, control+ asdf main skill R, AoE skill TG, index finger dots QW pinky and ring finger big skill E middle finger 1234 is for DPS cooldowns or big dic skills mouse is for kicks and taunts control modifiers are for cooldowns I have small hands so I try to reach the most keybinds while minimize my hand movement and pose
Movement: WASD with QE strafing (Too much muscle memory from other games to rebind) Rotational Abilities: 1-4, R, . alt+1-3 for longer CDs. 1 for spammy buttons Interrupt: ` Hard CC: 5 for AoE (Leg Sweep), ctrl+` for ST(Paralysis) (Sheep) (etc) Heals: Z, alt+Z, ctrl+z (Expel Harm, Vivify, Healthstone) Defensives: X, alt+X (Fort Brew, ToKarma) Movent: C, alt+C (Roll, Transcendence: Transfer) AoE effect: F, alt+F (FSK, FSK stop) (Death N Decay @cursor) (Consecration) (etc) long CDs: T, Y (SEF, Tony the Tiger) Utility: G, H (Ring of Peace, Disable) Gap Closer/Ranged Tag: alt+R (Crackling Jade Lightning) (Death Grip) (etc) Mark Target: 7 Skull 8 Square 9 Moon I'm sure my binds are terrible. But Z X only movement buttons? The Man's gone MAD.
I use 3 keybinds. Q/E to strafe and W for forward. You should never move back peddle. Use your mouse. 1-5 and shift+1-5 should be main abilities. Anything over 5 is dumb because you shouldn't be stretching out past what your hand can do. Hand shouldn't move
ctrl F is so easy for me to press. I press ctrl with my the palm area right under my pinky. Outside of my main rotation, I'm pretty comfortable with anything left of G with ctrl and shift modifier. I dont use alt. Q E to strafe cos there's always good real estate when I need a new keybind.
This spiraled so quickly into chaos. Biggest take away I got was do your keybindings however you want because everyone has different sized hands and and different sized brains
Shout-out to junkrat for the deep wisdom in this discussion. You gotta turn up the volume really high to hear it but worth tbh
Did they say anything lmao
@@colin5676 No.
A real gem. We love junkrat around these parts.
He never talks actually not even when in keys
@@nickdibiase123 this is the way
7 minutes in, this is entirely more fascinating than I was anticipating
What I learned is that having an mmo mouse was my best decision lmao
I'm always pretty surprised when people don't bind:
Shift/Ctrl + Space
Shift/Ctrl Mouse wheel up/down
That is 6 extremely easy binds to push, especially the mouse wheel.
alt + mouse wheel up/down makes 8, alt space don't work
Space is a bad keybind. Especially if theres movement and you need to jump. Like youre spamming jump and you gotta use another shift+"button" youll end up always accidently hitting shift/ctrl space.
jump for space is a waste imo. i jump with alt space, I use space for spam ability
@@dominikjors169 no, its not... specially for pvp
@@TheZipp3rr Explain
Move: WASD (A+D as strafe)
Core abilities/rotation: Q, E, R, F + shift modifier for the same keys.
Lighter cooldowns / additional rotational: 12345
Major Cooldowns: Shift + 1234
Utility keys: G, T, V.

Now do a m+ key where everyone have to use these cursed keybinds!
Get everyone to do a key with JPC’s bind lmao
This needs to happen!
Ya specifically everyone playing with JPC binds has got to be the best
@@atorrance Not really. The bindings are something you get familiar with.
I feel like I need another video where you just throw out a button type like “covenant ability” and then let each person answer one-at-a-time so everyone can berate the people that have weird binds.

Tettles' reaction to this whole conversation is just.. "What have I done.."
Arrowkeys are awesome to bind markers to. For instance the "Up arrow" key is for marking skull, if I want to indicate a priority target.
Why would you bind something so useless there. Use a remote way to do all 8 markers from one binding. Mod macros for the win.
I like that idea
Try OPie - it's amazing for raid markers
F is interrupt
1 is main cd
2 is defensive
3 is movement ability
V is aoe filler or builder
T is also some kind of aoe button
Idk those are just some of mine
We're kinda similar then.
Q and E (shift, ctrl, alt) are all my damage abilities. Rebound strafe to A and D.
R are stuns/CC
F is interrupt
G are movement abilities like Disengage, Fel Rush
T are some random abilities like Feign Death, Misdirect etc
1 is offensive abilities (Bestial Wrath, Aspect or Meta)
2 are defensives
3 other big cds
4 are buffs like Battle Shout
X is selfheal, shift-X health pot, control-X healthstone
Also use Shift-C and Control-C for some abilities like taunt, mend pet etc.
They should make a event where they have to do high mythic+ with JPCs keybinds 🤣
JPC: i had a crazy piano teacher that stretched my hands out
Everyone: *losing their minds*
Dorki: huh. that's cool.
The most important thing is to put off GCD buttons on easily accessible binds like mouse buttons or E, F, R. For example, when I play WW, sometimes I have to pop fort brew, karma, tiger, images, and maybe an interrupt as well, and your key binds need to enable that.
i main brew with os ww, interrupt on S for all classes. Shift F for fort brew, g karma and sef is 5
Kick = F, Tranq / sooth (Shift-F)
Taunt on E (while tanking, otherwise its a clickable somewhere on a bar),
Q is the rotational button that is only pressed once every 10 / 15 sec (Purifying brew),
R is always bound to some type of frontal aoe skill like Firebreath or Typhoon
For some reason my speed-up / mobility enhancer is always on V (Velocity).
Any type of main defensive goes on B (arkskin)
Both these are so easy to reach with the thumb
Aaaan I use Alt-f4 for my "Ooooh shit" button.
QWE is the superior movement setup
this allows u to hit A and D without having to take your finger off your movement keys
try hitting E while moving with D.. you have to physically take your finger off the key
binding Q and E to strafe right/left allows u to slide into A and D much easier for a stun/silence
WER would be better imo once you get a bit used to it.
Tried it, feels weird to me for my hands
This is exactly the reason why I love WoW because it's fun to get really serious. It gives you tremendous amount of pleasure just by planning your keybinds. The same goes to planning my nameplates too.
Or spending way to many hours just designing the ui and making WAs
@@zpokie123 this is the way
My keybinds were almost exclusively inspired by Reckful. Z and X for strafe left and right. Leaves
movement: esdf
rotation abilities: aqwrtgvcz12345
make capslock ctrl, use ctrl and shift with pinky for healer click binds
CDs: on open rotation keys or extra mouse buttons as needed (druids...)
ctrl and shift with index finger keys (rtgv5) for CDs
This maximizes keys easily accessible near the movement keys, particularly pinky. Since pinky isn't needed for movement. Their scorn for esdf movement is funny; it's better in every way. Most keyboards even have a bump on f, making it easier to find.
Just want to point out, using mouse + a lets you strafe left. Mouse + a + s lets you strafe even harder left w/o starting to turn your wrist with the mouse. keeping "s" around for the backpetal is just intuitive because although niche in wow, it can be very important in other games.
dude, growl is legit the best content creator in the whole community, dude is funny, relatable and knowledgeable
And he just seems like the nicest guy teaching newer players. If he could be the person people talk to when they try wow for the first time it would be a better place 😂😂
Movements : esdf, then you'll have an extra column for skills (forward, backwards, strafe left, strafe right)
Took me like an hour to get used to.
ESDF for movement is actually 5head if you can get used to it. Since you can reach more of your keyboard
Only issue I had with that is shift and ctrl not being within easy reach for the pinky.
@@tteabag91 Tab was also difficult for me using ESDF, otherwise i liked it
I would like to hand out a pro tip myself for keybinding! (for example)
Also another tip is moving your entire left hand 1 "click" to the right.
I take it one step further and have spell positions on my action bars set up to mirror the keyboard as well
WSAD for movement
Q,1-4,E,R for rotation,
Q,E,R + modifier for short cooldowns (30-45s)
1-4 + modifier for trinkets and consumes
Mouse wheel (click, up and down) for movement
Modifier + mouse wheel for offensive cooldowns
Z,X,C,V (+ modifiers) for CC, but C is always an interrupt
F,T,G (+ modifiers) for defensives, but G is always the "oh shit button"
~ for racial (EU keyboard so it's between shift and Z)
I play on mac, so my preferred modifier is cmd (which is at the same spot as left alt on Windows). It's much easier to press it with my thumb than to stretch my pinky to shift.
Blows my mind that Chow is the only one that has figured out the movement with left hand builder with right hand (mouse button) meta
F keys? that's fucked up.
F1-9 are raid targeting markers for me.
I have had the same keybindings since i started this game over 15 years ago QWE for movement, ADF1-0, and Shift 1-6 for defensives
Binding a mousebutton to Ctr is a very powerful gamer move
I think we need a live demonstration from growl on how tf you press control with the knuckle on ur pinky
I think he means the joint. He uses his palm to press ctrl
walk/strafe with: zxc
main abilities/used the most: asdfg
second tier abilities: SHIFT+asdfg
big cooldown abilities/least used ones: qwert
...
Tank main here and I "backpeddle" often when I need to reposition those buggy mobs that seem to come forward "through you:.
i'm listening to the keybindings on a qwerty keyboard, and i raise you: Razer Tartarus Pro. Movement with the tumbstick and spells on 03-05, 08-10, 13-15.
Highly recommend putting PTT key on your mouse, it allows you to talk without interrupting using abilities.
I recommend not using PTT and u dont need to waste a keybind. xD
WASD movement (strafe a-d)
I have 7 buttons in the mouse(+shift and +alt) so 21
Q,E,R,T,F (+shift and +alt) 15 more
“F is always my stun on every too”
Also scroll up and down with (+shift and +alt)
The Charlie Day image for Growl was perfect
H = Cobra Shot, U = Kill Command
As a basic example, during Bestial Wrath, Cobra Shot resets Kill Command so you do a lot of CS -> KC -> CS -> KC -> CS -> KC ...
That's why I rebound my damaging abilities to Q and E. I can spam them while strafing with A and D
All these guys here - pressing shift, ctrl, and alt manualy.
me - I have ctrl/alt/shift all as mouse buttons rather than a specific ability on the mouse.
My keybinds *generally*
Movement keys
W - Move forward
Q - strafe left
E - strafe right
S - Move backward (rarely used, but does come in handy. Especially in some scenarios when tanking and want to move something just a little bit)
Mouse right click - For all other movement options. It's pretty common for me to maneuver with strafe + mouse on fights. Manifested timeways comes to mind. or kiting around a boss while keeping melee uptime.
Mouse buttons
1-3: ctrl/alt/shift. the quickest for my thumbs to reach and my thumbs are always resting there. turns all of my basic 1-5 binds into 4 binds. so i can quickly reach any of near 20 skills.
4-5: These are often used for stuff I want keybound, but aren't really specific to anything. I've put beacon here, I've put a hotkey to spam waymakers, one to clear waymarkers. etc.
center mouse button pressed - Short Cooldown Defensive (Feint/blur)
scroll up - non dragon mount
scroll down - hearthstone
mouse button 3rd main click - dragon
Mouse wheel right click - Hard CC 1 (Kidney Shot)
Mouse Wheel left click - hard cc 2 (Gauge)
note: for the mouse wheel right, left, and click - those control druid forms when playing druid. as does scroll up (travel form)
Main hotkeys
2 and 3 - spammable rotational abilities, or heavily used abilities. Generally my builders if that class uses them (Sinister strike/pistol shot | Fracture/Soul Cleave)
1 and 4 - occasionally used rotational abilities. Tend to be spenders, or something slightly longer cd but still core to ratation (Between the Eyes/Dispatch | Immo aura/Spirit Bomb)
5 - occasionally used or situational abilities, if i have a spammable AoE finisher it often goes here, with spammable AoE builder on 4 (Throw Glaive)
6 - rarely used abilities. usually something that I don't need often. This is often not even bound to anything (Provoke: all tanks)
Shift buttons (mouse button modifier 1)
1 - generally a dash or mobility skill (Grappling Hook | Infernal Strike)
2 - Interrupts
3 - occasional class skill, and tank active mit (Steath | Demon Spikes
4 - AoE stun, or additional movement skills (Sprint | Chaos Nova)
5 - situationally used skill (Crimson Vial | Felblade)
6 - situational skill 2 -(Vengeful Retreat)
ctrl (mouse modifier 2)
1 - If i need it for rotation it's there. (Shiv | Fel Devestation)
2 - generally some type of buff, or utility skill (Slice n Dice | Fiery Brand)
3 - Healthstone
4 - ST stops (blind | imprison)
alt (mouse modifier 3)
1 - longer cd rotational. (Ghostly Strike | Sigil of silence)
2 - Moderate cd (Blade Rush | Sigil of Misery)
3 - occasional AoE skill (Blade Flurry " Sigil of Flame)
4 - occasional rotational ability (Roll the Bones | Elysian Decree)
5 - rarely used.
F keys
F 1-3: Often offensive cd's. usually try to put any paired cd's close together. as my muscle memory hits f2 pretty reliably.
Can agree to the backwards movement key not being on your opposite hand. It does fuck you up when you have a hard pull and too much to do.
Try using Shift+Spacebar as your movement ability, trust me on this one.
Best keybind for Charge, fel rush, stealth, blink, wild rush, divine charger, burning rush, ghost wolf
wasd movement(a+d strafe)
ctrl+alt+shift 12345, qwert,asdfg,zxcvb, m4+m5
Love to hear an ellesmore/growl discussion in addition to this.
Put your left hand on the keyboard. Where does it land naturally? ASDF, logically S and F would be strafe, E is forward and you don’t back peddle. S and F also have the little bumps so your hand finds itself where it should be off of feel.
You guys need to ascend to the next keybindkng level by using a foot petal as a modifier key lol
left foot is push to talk right foot is for alt
love the content you guys are pushing out! keep it up
for all my non tank chars
I use 1-4 and alt+1-4 for all my target attack/heal abilities,
1-2(alt) for single target, 3-4(alt) for aoe (with heal friendly damage enemy macros)
r,t alt+r, alt+t for slows, stuns, grips, or self mobility actions
f, alt+f for interrupts and focus interrupt
` for purge dispel with friendly/ enemy macro
g, alt+g, shitf+g personals
mouse extra buttons and alt+ for big cds
ESDF movement for life.
Been using that since the original Team Fortress days.
Im an esf enjoyer. It was weird for a bit after years of wad for movement but it was so worth it. Not only more binds to the left but i can reach alot of keys on the right side of the keyboard with my thumb. I is mount for example. Mana gem on j Shift H is mana shield, h is ice barrier when u start using your thumb all the bottom row keys become great binds too
This is so much more fun than i could have ever imagined.
Bro as a left hander I thought Im crazy you saved my life my keybinds are the same thank u so much
I'm a lefty too. My setup is a bit 'unique' :) The mouse handles movement and I have 1-6, Q-Y, A-H +CTRL modifier gives me almost enough keybinds. The keyboard sits off to the right a little with thumb on ctrl and wert is 'home' for the fingers. It works for me :)
as soon as JPC said z and x for strafe I immediately knew he got his binds from Reckful
tank can do some backpaddling like prots doing claps on slowed mob with just beeing in leeway or normal range
If you wanna move backwards just backstrafe with cam and A n D you dont even need to put strafe on any button since you can just hold rightclick and move in any direction you want if you wanna strafe right just WD and use cam as always
also most people just never learned to backstrafe which is essential for casters to gain distance in pvp for ex
I like ESDF for movement instead of WASD the adjustment time is low and you get more keybinds. And ZXC have been very useful since 2004 classic.
I basically learned I am basically like jpc but I use A and S for movement and my modifiers are my mouse buttons. Pretty similar otherwise. Kind of made since to me at the time and haven’t looked back.
You can actually bind stuff to Mouse wheel up and Mouse wheel down. So you will have 3 binds or even 5 (if you have mb5 and mb4 thumb buttons).
Awesome panel & discussion. But would really like to know how many of them actually use a keyboard and mouse with 3 buttons. Having entire movement on your thumb just makes things much easier.
Most mice have left & right click, mouse wheel up & down, wheel click, then two side buttons, then even sometimes left and right click on wheel.
Dorki with the low key, “my healer is so dumb.” Comment at 8:37. 😂😂😂
I try to keep all movement on my 5 button mouse. Front Side Button = Strafe Left, Back Side Button = Strafe Right, Scroll Button Click = Back Up.
Ohhh i'm totally using a macro/alt modifier on my emergency pot/healthstonr button to separate them from now on, good idea.
I’ll make a keybind video for these guys
shift+spacebar for kick, game changing keybind, trust me! ^^
This is the most unhelpful video on keybindings but I’ll be damned if I wasn’t entertained the whole time 😂
CTRL with the knuckle of the pinky was a wild. Roll my whole hand away lmao, just use the tip of the pinky like a human and not a gorilla lmao.
I’m surprised more people don’t use mouse wheel up/down for spammable attacks. Shift+mouse wheel for movement abilities. I set it up years ago and haven’t been able to go back
Chow with the based take of all immunity's on tilde
Tilde bind for the new toy that uses nearest demon gate for me
Oh also qwe, 123 are St and Aoe mostly Shift qwe are abilities I need but not as often. Tab and dgt used for stuns and utilities
I actually bought a foot pedal for push to talk and another keybind
What I learned is that nearly everyone does it differently. Who would have thought. I use arrow keys and an external keypad. everything I need right there.
noob playing since tbc:
A for target
SDF for strait and forward
1234, QWER, TG, CV
mouse scroll up+down (control scroll up down for zoom)
control+ 1234, control+qwer, control+ asdf
main skill R, AoE skill TG, index finger
dots QW pinky and ring finger
big skill E middle finger
1234 is for DPS cooldowns or big dic skills
mouse is for kicks and taunts
control modifiers are for cooldowns
I have small hands so I try to reach the most keybinds while minimize my hand movement and pose
I've been using my tartarus for so long that this conversation is almost alien to me. Great content though!
Movement: WASD with QE strafing (Too much muscle memory from other games to rebind)
Rotational Abilities: 1-4, R, . alt+1-3 for longer CDs. 1 for spammy buttons
Interrupt: `
Hard CC: 5 for AoE (Leg Sweep), ctrl+` for ST(Paralysis) (Sheep) (etc)
Heals: Z, alt+Z, ctrl+z (Expel Harm, Vivify, Healthstone)
Defensives: X, alt+X (Fort Brew, ToKarma)
Movent: C, alt+C (Roll, Transcendence: Transfer)
AoE effect: F, alt+F (FSK, FSK stop) (Death N Decay @cursor) (Consecration) (etc)
long CDs: T, Y (SEF, Tony the Tiger)
Utility: G, H (Ring of Peace, Disable)
Gap Closer/Ranged Tag: alt+R (Crackling Jade Lightning) (Death Grip) (etc)
Mark Target: 7 Skull 8 Square 9 Moon
I'm sure my binds are terrible. But Z X only movement buttons? The Man's gone MAD.
"the butt of your pinky" had me laughing out loud, i understood but it still made me lol
I use 3 keybinds. Q/E to strafe and W for forward. You should never move back peddle. Use your mouse.
1-5 and shift+1-5 should be main abilities. Anything over 5 is dumb because you shouldn't be stretching out past what your hand can do. Hand shouldn't move
actually an insane vid, i argue with my friends about optimal binds all the time so this was very entertaining
I literally do all of my movement on my mouse including strafes. The entire left side of keyboard is abilities. Arena players perspective.
QWE is my strafe/forward/strafe keybinds as well.
High level Raiders backpedal....lol, hell several people in the RWF in Echo were backpedaling.
ctrl F is so easy for me to press. I press ctrl with my the palm area right under my pinky. Outside of my main rotation, I'm pretty comfortable with anything left of G with ctrl and shift modifier. I dont use alt. Q E to strafe cos there's always good real estate when I need a new keybind.
