I don't know if it's already been said, but Blood DKs have a talent -- that they ALL take if they have ANY clue what they are doing -- called Will of the Necropolis. It reduces all damage taken when below 30% HP by 30%, and it includes partial reduction on big hits (i.e. if the DK is at 35% and takes an attack that deals more than 5% of their health, the amount that dips them below 30% will be reduced by 30% even within that one big hit). The talent is AMAZINGLY powerful and results in really strange-looking damage curves if the healer doesn't know about it. For example, a Blood DK might wait until they are nearly at 30% before hitting Icebound Fortitude (30% reduction) and suddenly it seems like all incoming damage just... stops. That's because they have 30% mitigation from armor, 30% from WotN, and 30% from Icebound Fortitude. This also means that if you are going to hit a Blood DK with a proactive damage reduction cooldown, it's best to wait until they are around 35%-ish health to get the most mileage out of it -- again, assuming that the DK isn't going to die from a giant hit. In other words, as long as the DK isn't in danger of being one-shot by a big hit, it's fine to leave them at 35%-ish health and hit them with HoTs and efficient healing. A lot of Blood DKs don't WANT to be at full health; they want to be able to leverage Death Strike healing, Bloodworm healing, Will of the Necropolis reduction, etc. to allow healers time and space to heal the rest of the party and even DPS. It's for this reason that Discipline Priests are so amazing with Blood DKs: the shield doesn't actually heal them but still benefits from the 30% DR from WotN and the steady stream of healing from Atonement is often plenty once the Blood DK has stabilized the pull.
I love how “stabilised” is the most common way to describe BDK on pull. We don’t come in strong with a shinny shield or iron fur, we get smacked right in the face so hard we almost die and then stabilise afterwards and we kinda good.

One key thing you didn’t mention about Vengeance DH, and I didn’t see any comments mentioning it either. Fiery Brand can either be a ho-hum cool down you should be vaguely aware of, or it could be the reason your DH doesn’t ever seem to need to kite in big pulls, depending on their build. Vengeance gets a talent that lets Fiery Brand (debuff on the mob that reduces their damage to you by 40%) spread to another target every second. On a big pull, that means you can basically negate almost half the damage with smart management of Brand. There’s also a legendary that lets you reduce the CD of Brand by 2s with ever use of Soul Cleave (which will be used constantly in this build, you don’t take Spirit Bomb), and a conduit that gets it even lower. The result is that you can easily have Brand up for a good chunk of the pull, which lets you work around your mitigation gaps. For me, this means I save Meta for really urgent moments (like my healer being OOM/dead) and otherwise I weave Spikes, Brand (likely spread during the first Spikes), Spikes, Fel Dev, etc. I give up some damage but I gain solid mitigation that doesn’t result in my having to jump around the field of battle like a weasel on meth.
Very nice overview. I would like to add (for viewers who might now know) that Meta for Vengeance is 3min CD, not 5. They also have Fiery Brand, a 1min CD 40% damage reduction for 10 seconds, they can apply to single target, typically the most dangerous mob in a pack or a boss. There is also a talent build that lets the DH spread this effect to a new mob every 2 seconds, and increase the total duration to 14 seconds. On top of that they have a conduit and legendary that further reduces the cooldown, meaning it will be available on most pulls. This can easily be tracked on enemy nameplates as it is a debuff put on them.
After playing slightly higher keys (up to a +17 i think) with a blood dk as a resto druid, i developed kind of a apathy to their health where i'd just throw hots and occasional bark on him and basically ignored his health frame. saved me a lot of stress

Thank you for another awesome video. Your explanation on DK will help me a lot. They are the tank I struggle the most healing when the guy does not like to Death Strike.
Another thing to keep in mind with paladins is their blessings can be used on others as well. For healers specifically BoP and Sac are important, if your ramp was bad going into something or you're falling behind don't be scared to ask. My healer looks after me so I don't mind helping when I can. The paladin free heal (which does insane numbers on non tank health pools) or blessing on another player can save deaths and pulls
love the legendary on my paladin that reduces holy power for spells by 1 when using judgment which allows almost 100% uptime on shield of the righteous at the cost of dps
God bless you sir. Half the paladins I heal are absolute Chad status. The other half chase DPS and if I leave them for a moment they get squashed like a bug. Plz other pallies, choose defensives over meter padding.
@@tarisco614 the shield resset lego is better tham judgment for keys, the spammable silence + 4k shield per cast on 5+ mobs packs(talent) saves you alot, the judgement one is really good for raiding where the shield don't reset as much.
It's worth noting for Guardian druids that currently (am 191 ilvl), they it the armor cap of 85% physical DR from armor at 9-10 stacks of ironfur. A good way to tell if they're aiming for high stacks of ironfur on a hard hitting pack is if they use Berserk which drastically increases rage generation through removing the CD of their main rage generating abilities. Because Guardian is already reaching the armor cap in pre raid gear, they're already hitting max DR which will remain constant over the course of the expansion.
A minor note as well for prot pallies is that their self heal (Word of Glory) now requires holy power, so it is not available 100% of the time like Light of the Protector was. Popping wings + LotP with the right azerite trait was like a free LoH in BFA, but not available anymore.
As a tank this helps me understand how my healers work and what I should coach them when doing M+ Very good video, thank you for much for taking the time to make this.
This is pretty close to my experiences as well. I weep every time I try to heal a DK, I am not sure but almost everyone of them has just been a horrible experience. The problem is that they just are not predicable unless you play with that player regularly. So many times I have seen them die with enough RP available while I went to heal a dps. Monks have honestly have been pretty nice overall. That said I have seen a few who just don't properly use the toolkit and those are a nightmare but generally not a problem. I haven't seen a bad bear tank yet and they are pretty much always a joy to heal. Granted I might feel differently on tyrannical week. Warriors, DH, and pallies are middle of the road. If they properly use the toolkit they are not that bad to heal but the ones who don't use it properly are a nightmare.
Dude this vid is so fkn good I have no words. I play shammy as alt and although I know my class and like prot warr/blood dk (alts), I don't know the other tank classes so well and I always wondered if there is a simplified guide which just explains their basic mitigation.
Blood DK POV: I’m good, I’m good, I’m fine, I’m good, I am infact NOT FINE IM ABOUT TO FUCKING DIE HELP OMG.... I’m fine I’m ok I’m good I’m DYING AGAIN HOLY SHIT..... except I’m not it’s ok and NOPE I WAS WRONG IM ACTUALLY DEAD THIS TIME
An important thing to note about Paladins (not sure about other tanks) is their mastery coupled with the Holy Shield talent can really smooth out their damage taken as the expansion gets further in... still gotta watch out for those bleeds though.
I absolutely love your videos. You are way beyond my skill level, but your advice scales down well. And of course I play, exclusively, just about the only healer spec that no one ever talks about.
Protection Paladins can block spells and Consecration reduces damage taken while standing in it by way of their Mastery. This gives them a near-constant damage reduction.
As someone who is currently maining a druid (both guardian and resto for m+), I can definitely say that guardian feels pretty bulky at the moment. I'm finding that healers often spam heals into me when they really don't need to, so I may need to communicate with them better or something. Guardian is really self-sufficient for light-medium damage, since they have the globals to spend on FR. If you're healing a bear, tracking their FR charges can be really helpful. Often, you can ignore them in favor of healing others or dpsing yourself.
This is so kickass, great job! Can you maybe make a video going in depth about specific pulls and which ones should and shouldnt be attempted by which tanks? Something along those lines, atm I am playing Holy Pally and honestly every dungeon is quite painful, my tank is dying quite often and quite fast in most cases, I want to know if there is something I can do about it bar using cooldowns.
This may just be me, but as a prot pally main I find that shield of righteous is weak. I use it when I have plenty of health since it is decent for mitigation and damage (especially with the legendary), but generally I find it much easier to survive by mixing more word of glorys in over shield of righteous when I get to lower health, taking advantage of the healing scaling of glory over the flat armor bonus of righteous.
Healer and healer synergy can really make a big difference.. if you recognize your partners spells and how it works. Druids and Shamans can actually work well. Toss in disc priest
Hey Growl !! I am using your UI set up and I am loving it, I was wondering would you be making one for raids ? I am not raid ready yet but i do like having my UI ready for when I am ready I just returned to WoW , I played in Legion last :D
Good starter guide but one thing you can mention about Brewmaster healing is their healing spheres. If you see a lot of glowing orbs surrounding your brewmaster, they have an ability called Expel Harm that will suck all those spheres in do a huge amount of healing.
I was under the impression, possibly wrongly, that only the monk themselves could see those spheres. I swear the couple I have healed recently I saw a no spheres. None ever.
Hey I play vengence dh and i feel like you missed something in your overview. Whenever vengence uses fel devestation, that flame breath, you really don't need to heal us. It's a massive heal and we get put in meta while it's active and right after, it's a minute long cd and it's the biggest "ohshit" button we have. Just letting you or anyone else know, try not to waste any big casts while we're breathing if the dps is getting shitcanned, we dont need it.
I saw a video of a prot pal soloing Theater of Pain in M0 he was discarding the use of shield of the righteous when damage was high and casted more Word of Glory instead. Through this video I understood that they have a free word of glory every 5 shields but in my opinion they shouldn't only heal with that proc. Guardian druids had a similar mechanic where casting maul 3 times granted you a free Ironfur. But they wouldn't keep a high uptime on ironfur by only depending on that mechanic.
I'm a main tank and this video is pretty good and help me to understand how healer heal me to. I play a lot with a resto druid, do you recomand a tank who synergyse well with ? I can play all except pala. Maybe monk for hot with stagger ? Or another choice can be better ? Thanks
Thanks for the great video :D ! A quick question, you forgot to mention Fiery Brand for VDH which is a pretty good mitigation, especially if they run the FB build, do you track their usage of this spell ?
This explains much. Came back to WoW for SL after nearly a decade away and have been running M+ pretty much exclusively with a DK. Picked up on most of that but uh.. wish I had seen this video awhile ago. 😅
Hey Yumytv thanks for the video out of curiosity is that a weak aura or addon setup to show cooldowns on side of party frame? would be useful to know when my prot pala is using his. thanks
I can't find the video I stumbled upon you made several months ago that mentioned tracking tanks cd's and I can't find any add on's or know how to find any weak auras that would allow me to know what they have used?
Hey there Mr. Yumy, so I'm freshly getting back into WoW and I've always loved heals. I installed Grid2 but I was wondering how you have buffs and debuffs displaying to the left and right of your players? Mine doesn't show that and the interface is pretty complicated.
Those are WeakAuras, he was mentioning it several times during the video. It’s a very powerful addon and I suggest you make yourself familiar with it to do big mythics and improve your general play.
As a prot pally right now it seems to be completely ignore me while I heal myself, but I play more like a ret with a shield than a warrior with bubble.
I got into healing recently after a big break from wow, and I've already got class biases based on what i've healed haha. Monks are a nightmare, they just seem to lose so much health all the time (doesn't help that my first monk tank experience was one who pulled EVERYTHING and let us all wipe as the dps struggled to deal with the sheer number of mobs), DHs are finnicky - their health can go up and down and it's tough to tell when I need to heal and when not (I'm one of those healers who overheals at like 95% for ocd haha) and Druids are decent - but they have so much health that when they take a lot of damage, it takes a lot to heal them back up ^^: Warriors and DKs seem fine, and that's all I've had to heal so far lol. I kind of miss being dps, but also healing has been a very fun experience ^^
I main dk, i play a lot of blood. Relax, healing too much because you panic won't help. It is much better to give us damage mitigation or shield or dot heals. I also play healers and i know how frustrating dk can be to heal because it can be unpredictable. Runic power although a good indicator, it's not reliable because for a example i might have 0 runic power and my health starts climbing up because i used bonestorm, or vampiric blood and sacrifical pact, or vampiric blood and because i am draenei, gift of the naaru, or bloodrinker. We are squishy, but most of our abilities heal us. The hardest part is not dying at the first 5 seconds. High keys tho, we lack a lot compared to other classes. But low keys we might not need healing.
As a prot pally, it feels like I have a free hit of word of glory non stop the speed I get through 5 SoTR, I’ve found usually it’s the massive hitters and armour breakers (think necrotic wake) that do give me a little problem here and there
usually as a prot pally main, i just tell healer to leave me alone and focus on healing the party instead. cus i got enough mitigation and self heal to solo heal myself up to m+5 ish

Let him die, i mean all the time, he will learn from it or change to another char because he is a bad blood tank thats all
Perhaps hes saving deathstroke because he knows theres a larger hit or hes to faraway for non gripable mobs
I never see a guide like this, great video 😊
love the legendary on my paladin that reduces holy power for spells by 1 when using judgment which allows almost 100% uptime on shield of the righteous at the cost of dps
@@tarisco614 But you don't need healing when you can delete a pack in 2 seconds with CDs lol

Super handy video. Is there a simple addon that can let me see the tank cool downs?
A minor note as well for prot pallies is that their self heal (Word of Glory) now requires holy power, so it is not available 100% of the time like Light of the Protector was. Popping wings + LotP with the right azerite trait was like a free LoH in BFA, but not available anymore.
As a tank this helps me understand how my healers work and what I should coach them when doing M+
Very good video, thank you for much for taking the time to make this.
As a Blood main;
It is all just internal screaming until you run out of all resources. Then it’s audible screaming.
Such is the life of a yo-yo tank.
Dude this is so true. I'm so cool I'm a raid till my next rune is 6 sec and my RP is 0. Then it's all screaming
Such a great topic that hasn't been covered all too often. Thanks for the great vid! Whats the addon to display people's cooldowns?
I absolutely love your videos. You are way beyond my skill level, but your advice scales down well. And of course I play, exclusively, just about the only healer spec that no one ever talks about.
found the holy priest
@@ARMAfuckenGEDDON yep. LOL. Here I am.
Yooo nice video!
What addon are you using to track the tank cooldowns etc?
Thank you. As a tank, this is so helpful.
Did you make a video on how to setup the "death strike"/"Stagger" besides the unit frames?
it's WA, you can find it here wago.io/p/petzergling
This is so kickass, great job! Can you maybe make a video going in depth about specific pulls and which ones should and shouldnt be attempted by which tanks? Something along those lines, atm I am playing Holy Pally and honestly every dungeon is quite painful, my tank is dying quite often and quite fast in most cases, I want to know if there is something I can do about it bar using cooldowns.
This may just be me, but as a prot pally main I find that shield of righteous is weak. I use it when I have plenty of health since it is decent for mitigation and damage (especially with the legendary), but generally I find it much easier to survive by mixing more word of glorys in over shield of righteous when I get to lower health, taking advantage of the healing scaling of glory over the flat armor bonus of righteous.
love the video Growl, keep up the good work buddy
Healer and healer synergy can really make a big difference.. if you recognize your partners spells and how it works. Druids and Shamans can actually work well. Toss in disc priest
Thanks for all the content lately. Can you do an updated healer tier list from your pov sometime this week?
Finally. This video is gold !
What's the add-on that's being use to track cooldowns next to the character bars??
Customized Weak Auras, I think.
Search for the addon omni cooldows /omnicds
Great video dude! What addon is that, you see your party members cooldowns?
have you found it yet ?
@@stormq8 Yes, there are 2 addons you can use, ability team tracker or arena team tracker. Other one is OmniCD
Cool video! Any clue on the weakauras showing Runic Power and Stagger mechanics close to the party frame? Thanks!

What addons do you recommend I use for a rest druid?
Thanks a lot.
For me as a new healer that's pretty good to know. Thanks!
Hey Growl !!
I am using your UI set up and I am loving it, I was wondering would you be making one for raids ?
I am not raid ready yet but i do like having my UI ready for when I am ready
I just returned to WoW , I played in Legion last :D
Can you make a video on how to raid heal with a disc priest? :D
None ever.
@@GasStationSushiSkatesat48 only the monk can see them
@@taylorkent2395 thank you for confirming. I thought I was going crazy. LOL.
Monks need alot of healing i really dislike healing them, prot paladins in the other hand i barely heal them
Hey I play vengence dh and i feel like you missed something in your overview.
Thanks
...Not sure why you didn't talk about Prot Warrior's main mitigation, Ignore Pain?....
Great video, interesting to watch from a tank’s perspective
Thanks for the great video :D ! A quick question, you forgot to mention Fiery Brand for VDH which is a pretty good mitigation, especially if they run the FB build, do you track their usage of this spell ?
Growl, how does Dorki feel about you not liking to heal his bdk? :)
Is there a link to the WA to track there abilities?
This explains much. Came back to WoW for SL after nearly a decade away and have been running M+ pretty much exclusively with a DK. Picked up on most of that but uh.. wish I had seen this video awhile ago. 😅
Hey Yumytv thanks for the video out of curiosity is that a weak aura or addon setup to show cooldowns on side of party frame? would be useful to know when my prot pala is using his. thanks
Awesome video thanks for making it 😀
This guide is amazing!
I can't find the video I stumbled upon you made several months ago that mentioned tracking tanks cd's and I can't find any add on's or know how to find any weak auras that would allow me to know what they have used?
can you post a list of your weak aura for keepin track of things
Fiery brand is also another massive damage mitigation for DH not mentioned
05:55 As a prot pala main! This is so true.
Wait? Did you forget that prot warriors have ignore pain too? A personal bubble that also reduces 50 percent damage?
Hey there Mr. Yumy, so I'm freshly getting back into WoW and I've always loved heals. I installed Grid2 but I was wondering how you have buffs and debuffs displaying to the left and right of your players? Mine doesn't show that and the interface is pretty complicated.
Those are WeakAuras, he was mentioning it several times during the video. It’s a very powerful addon and I suggest you make yourself familiar with it to do big mythics and improve your general play.
Excellent info, thanks!
What are good tank/healer pairs? Resto druid and Brewmaster is an obvious one but what else?
mind sharing the addons you are using to track the tank's powers?
As a prot pally right now it seems to be completely ignore me while I heal myself, but I play more like a ret with a shield than a warrior with bubble.
hey, nice video! what addon is used that displays the individuals defensive cds on the left of your group grid?
really informative, thank you!
I started watching your channel in BFA for the Druid content. Are you only running shaman now?
He plays all but I believe his main is Resto Shaman atm
@@ante2629 he raids on Disc too, his two mains are resto shaman and disc
The addon for tracking you described doesn't seem to be working for me 😐
Could someone please tell me how to get each players buffs next to their frame? I'm a new healer and that would be really nice. Thank you.
The cool downs are most likely the add on "OmniCD"
Hi,
what is the name of the addon that shows you the cooldowns on the groupframe?
Any chance you can post weakaura for stagger please?
wago.io/LvAI6Dikh
as night fae dk with mistweaver conduit gives you a 10% max life shield when you receive overhealing thats pretty lit
DPS: eats every single shit boss throws at him/her, then complains about the healer.
Meanwhile everyone dies to unavoidable dmg because healer hps is below 3k
@@TheDool it's everyone's own job to use survival cooldowns accordingly, it's the beginning of an expansion. Everyone must put 120% effort.
What is the addon to see when tabk is using cooldown or if his mitigation is up/not up atm? I really wanna know 😁 Great vid btw!
I thought DR meant diminishing returns, but you used it with Shield Wall, do you mean Damage Reduction?
Is this UI grid or elvui for the healing bars?
Do you have links to the Weak Auras that you use to track?
A good brewmaster is easy to heal a bad one offers only a shit show
-Bocky chicken
