5,000 Sailors Return from 8-Month Deployment on USS George H.W. Bush: 'The Best Part Is Coming Home'

- NORFOLK, Virginia - After more than eight months at sea, the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier returned to Naval Station Norfolk this past weekend. CBN News joined the happy homecoming and recorded stories of faith and family.
As the massive aircraft carrier made its way to port, its sailors lined the ship's perimeter as excited family and friends anxiously waited. More than eight months is a long time to be apart, and the reunions reflect that.
"This is our eighth deployment, so she's been through eight deployments, 17 years of marriage, so I would say that it was routine, but it's never routine," shared Capt. Alex Hampton, commander of Carrier Air Wing Seven, after reuniting with his wife.

I remember those days never did a 8 month deployment as a Marine but I appreciate all service members. Those were some great reunions!

That’s an awe inspiring thing to witness. As a Navy wife with an almost 3mo old who was meeting her daddy for the first time, I’ve experienced such as this during the first Gulf War. It’s a nice reward for the spouses left behind that hold down the fort, the Sailor /Marine & esp for the kids!
But at least there’s email, FaceTime, etc these days. We had ship to shore calls which had someone listening in and you had to say over after you were thru with your sentence; I only got to experience that once bc I was pregnant but I was grateful for it. It was more than wives b4 me had!

My Dad was deployed back in the 1950-60s for over A year or 2 as he was in Singapore, or Japan building US ships we could only write letters postcards ,with 5 siblings a working Mom my Dad couldn't afford to fly home on leave , he did not get a chance to meet me until I was 2months old and was only granted 4 days leave .Later on he somehow got a job patrolling the east coast during the Cuban missile crisis days ,we would all pile in a car and drive up and down the coast to meet him in Port I have 6 thousand saves postcards from all over the world tat he wrote to us ,he wrote everyday
