Excellent prediction and repair. Good camera work showing how the belt fits on the motor and tension pulleys. GE has had plenty of time to develop a solution for that purple wire melting/burning. It's been a problem on GE dryers for at least 15 to 20 years.

Has it been that long? Geez, you’d think they would fix that by now. I had one lady that only did one load in hers when it burned off. Thanks for watching!

Hello Mr.Harper found your videos after about an hour of searching as a diesel mechanic has me thinking about starting my own business. However I’m in a predicament I have a very similar washer shown in the video and it seems to not heat very well at all, it’s a hand down that was suppose to be brand new. I could put one article of clothing and it feels “warm” after a hour in the drier alone.
    Thanks

      1. Check the voltage going to the dryer at the cord terminal. It should read 240 volts across the outside terminals and 120 on the center and each outside terminal. 2. Check for the problem as shown in the video. 3. Check continuity of the components inside the cabinet. The thermostats and fuses. 4. Check continuity of the element. Thanks for watching!

Another great video and I am so glad you keep your videos on a professional level but anyways there's another guy on youtube doesn't keep his very professional and let just say he has a dirty mouth and never finished one appliance before jumping to other appliances.

Just a few seconds in and I’m gonna swing for the stands and hope for the home run…. The purple wire is burnt off at the heating element connection.
Now to watch and see…. 😂

Yup. GE won’t let us field splice. We have to order a complete harness and usually an element as well. Rather than replace the entire harness, I just spin the purple wire from the motor connector and replace just the burnt wire. It’s the same undersized wire that goes back in. Always a bandaid, never a solution. It’s frustrating. Great vid!

On my old Whirlpool the heating element starts to vibrate a couple minutes after it heats up. It’s never been replaced and is 24 years old. Could the coils be starting to sag? It works fine but the vibration is irritating.

Perhaps the screws holding it to the shroud are loose, or perhaps the shroud is loose. I've never heard of a vibrating element before. Thanks for watching!

@@HarperandKnowles I will check the screws. I know that if I move the timer to a non-heated cycle the vibration stops as it cools off. Move it back to heated and noise will return within about 60 seconds.

If it's new then GE should pay to fix it.
