EKA from Sweden make something similar to this called a Swingblade, maybe something to check out. Being Swedish steel its not as affordable as this one.
Been wanting to pick up one of the minis to try out for awhile now might have to place an order... Also now that your looking into cheap/affordable knives what do you think of the Le Duck fixed blade? Or are you just not a fan of fixed blades in general?
Here in Europe, these sell for around the $18/$19 for the mini, $22 for the regular and a $141 for the giant 216mm blade length
Wranglerstar as a sailing instructor, I carry a leatherman wingman with some fishing twine around some of the holes, and that is then attached to an emergency release old lanyard clip, so it doesn't fall in the water when on the boat, but if some one is in trouble it's easily accessible. Anyway u might want to try it for a bit

Low effort knife you won’t miss when lost. This thing should be a buck but it’s 15. I don’t see the bargain. And the tang sticking out wearing a hole in your pocket is a feature. Wrangler sounds like a use car salesman/ginssu commercial. Buy now and avoid future regret. Lol

I've been collecting and using knives since I was a kid. Have recently acquired an Opinel, and have been using a Mora for my camp knife for a few years. This is next on my list of inexpensive quality knives. I'm not sure how Sweden, France, and New Zealand manage to make such good stuff at an affordable price, even after being imported, but I wish that American manufacturers would figure it out. I can't find a Chinese-made Kershaw branded knife for less than 30 bucks, much less 12 to 15. I'm an artist, craftsman, and outdoorsman, and I actually use my knives on a daily basis. I'm not taking a $100 knife on a kayak trip only to give it away to the fishes.
I fell down the rabbit hole; I started looking at Ganzo, for a cheap, high quality pocket folder, ended up picking up a Mora and falling in love with it. I wanted a folding Mora, turns out the French have me covered. Now I'm looking at Opinel, MAM, Svord, even a Victorinox to round out the group.
My girlfriend is super excited about my newly rediscovered love of knives 😅
I have an Opinel as my EDC, grabbing one of these to check out.
Maybe just use a lanyard with something floating on it.
I thought that was universal common practice when on water, seems like a no brainer no matter if 300$ knife, Svord or Opinel.
Opened are serious value for money, can be razor sharp, but their blades can break.
I hate these knives. They’re dangerous. They do make cool fixed blades.
In 2021 the svord is up to $28
Great vid as always Wranglestar
My favorite cheap knife is the mora companion made in sweeden. However it doesn't fold
A good company that makes great folding knives that are CRAZY cheap is opinel from France. You should check it out

I feel similarly about the Higonokami. Great thick blade, good steel, etc. But I hated the XL version. The smaller 3" bladed version is way better. Fits in your pocket great, and feels more of an appropriate size for a cheap friction folder.

"Everybody is racist, you destroyed the meaning" straight up facts
then straight up after that to say everything made in china is poor quality is kinda racist. admittedly a lot stuff made in china aren't the very good quality, or even good value, especially when talking about tools. but that doesn't make it right to say "everything" made in china is poor quality.
@@stin11111 I mean you're not wrong man he did generalize quite a bit, recently the quality of their production has improved. But at the same time buying a European or American product is more guaranteed to last.
Nothing wrong with acknowledging statistics and racial behaviors
@@heilhonkler6981 There's plenty of quality stuff coming out of china. It just costs quality prices. More often then not, people buy the cheapest chinese stuff they can find then get mad that it broke. Generalizing a countries product quality in a negative way has nothing to do with with race.

I like my buck 110 it's been my favorite since I was around 10 and I still have the same one today 9 years later. It was around $25 when I got it and I use it everyday from skinning animals, cleaning fish, and basically anything I need to do. For the the quality the price is nothing. It holds a edge better than almost any of my knives also.
I got my first buck 110 when I was around 15. I still have a 110 that I carry in my truck. I've gone through probably 2 -110's, the one I have now is the one I bought my dad when I was around 23 I'm now 57. Its still a good knife and at that time it was around $27 early 80 late seventies. I did move on to a buck 112 easier to carry in the pocket. Now I have a Leatherman charge that I just can't part with.
Cody, so glad you found your favorite pocket knife. I can relate, I am a spyderco fan personally, and for a time, I had misplaced my original endura 4, with VG10 blade. Even though I have since upgraded to a "super steel" zdp189 version for EDC, misplacing my original was painful. Luckily, as with you, I eventually found it... or more to the point, went back to my remote cottage where I suspected I had left it. I would like to offer a personal opinion if you don't mind... I know the last time you lost your benchmade, you went through numerous knives, trying to find a suitable replacement. In the end, you settled back to what you know, love and have come to rely on... I am not telling you what to do, but I would suggest there are certain things in life that we just can not replace... for me, it is having a spyderco in my pocket, ready to go at a moments notice... for you, I believe, your benchmade 940 is the same. Thankfully you do not have to replace it this time, but if you ever do, for what ever reason, my advice would be to just go ahead and do what you know is going to make you happy. Just a thought from a fan...
I picked one up, super happy to find something simple yet useful.
I got to say, I recently picked up a mini peasant and have been using it as my EDC knife. And I got to say, I have fallen in love with the little knife
The Svord knife is made of L6 steel. Saw blade steel. Mr. Baker knows what's up.
Cody, that's not how you one hand open them easy.
Put the bit with the hole in the middle of your palm with the blade facing you and pointing upwards. Slide the handle away from you and down.. you will figure it out the movements from there. Means you can grab from pocket and open in one easy swift movement... Also keeps the blade facing away from you.
Great knife. I own the same knife in the same colour... just so i don't lose it!

Cody, have you heard about higonokami knives, they are a traditional Japanese folding knife, Dutch bushcraft knives does a few videos about them, you can get many of them for under $20, they are all hand made by one man. They are beautiful and have the same friction hold as the Svord knives. Hope this helps haha. God bless -Kyle
Kyle newhall I have one and it's such a neat knife
I have one ,the steel is such good quality. Holds a perfect edge and nearly forever. Rust is a problem, but with a little oil on it it will be fine. I love it. And its a really small knife for the length of the blade, a perfect little edc knife made in Japan.
Chris Diehl they are great little knives, I have two of the smaller ones a black and a brass one, but I want to get so many more haha I love them because they're different, you don't see many knives made like that.
german woodworker the steel really is amazing I've noticed they do hold an edge for quite a long time, but you are right rust can be an issue but I keep a little bit of animal fat on them and haven't had any problems since 😊
Yeah, and the laminated blade is razor sharp, ine time i missed my finger, but really close, it was so close the first layer of my skin was shaved away. I was not bleeding, but it was a terrifying close call, a quarter inch deeper and i would have hit the bone probably.

stone wintjen50 it was sharp in some places. The angles are all over and the geometry of the grind goes from a flat grind to a hollow grind back to flat and some Chile going on Its bad enough it'll be close to 3/16 shorter at the tip to clean it up.
I have used this Svord knife for two seasons exclusively for edible mushroom hunting and foraging. It is fantastic. Orange color is easy(er) to find if lost on the forest floor. The single handed open is great for field cleaning mushrooms. And the HCS blade is great. I would like to see how it works for bushcraft, like splitting wrist sized firewood.
I love odd, cheap little knives like this. I just ordered one of these based off of your recommendation and can't wait to get it and carry it around. It's always fun when I hand my friends a knife that's a little different and the say "wtf is this"? hahaha!
I've carried pricy knives for a while ($50-100) range and havent gone higher because I lose them all the time. For the last 3ish years I've carried a Kershaw 3870. Its held up well and is pretty decent for edge retention. The best part is when it's a cheap knife I never loose it. It's < $25.
You should make a wooden handle for it. Should be pretty easy and would make it look awesome!
Svord actually makes those
Problem is that with the friction lock a wood handle is more likely to swell if you get it wet and clamp your knife shut, you can bash the tang open but up to you. I have a wooden handle for mine and it’s fine for me but not sure I’d main a wooden one as a edc or a fishing knife or something. Mines just a beater
Bought one through your affiliate link! The mini looks PERFECT for what I use my knife most for... castrating bull calves. When you're doing hundreds of them you need it to keep an edge and it truly needs to be a one hand opener.
Thanks for the recommendation. Saved me a bunch.
Opinels are also super affordable and offer a pretty cool “old school” design. They don’t quite qualify for a one hand open but they do have a locking mechanism. For around $10 you can’t go wrong!
Opinel carbone do a good cheap locking knife, takes a really good edge and locks both ways. I would be scared with that in my pocket lol
I have one, the plastic of the handle isn't slippery, it gives a little resistance to opening along with tightness from adjusting the 2 screws. It won't open by accident. I put a string on the hole in the "lever" and leave it hanging out of the pocket to grab, then push the lever against my leg to open. The blade seems more robust than the opinel, which I have with a screw on thumb stud installed on it.
Having no pocket clip is the reason I've lost so many knives. My Benchmade mini reflex and mini griptilian I've had for years and have never lost.
Cody, I was crazy hesitant to drop around $100 on a good edc knife... and then I see this video. God bless you, sir. This may indeed be that answer to prayer.

My son bought me a zero tolerance hinderer knife for my birthday last year. I had been covering that knife for a year. Within a week I had lost it. I was heart broken. We would walk to a shopping center for lunch that was on the other side of some railroad tracks every day. To get there we had to cut through some brush and a hole in the fence to cross the tracks. So. A week later I decided to bring a machete to clear the brush so we wouldn’t get wet from the over hanging leaves. While I was hacking away at the the Brush my friend spotted a knife hanging from a vine right next to the fence opening. Lol. I was so happy. I found my knife dangling there. So I got pick pocketed by a flowering vine. You are right about those pocket clips. My retribution on that vine was swift. The machete raised some eye brows from the waitress though. 😊

I bought the large peasant in blue a few weeks back. Real clean, simple knife for the money. Took it's edge to near razer levels on a set of stones. I'm on a farmstead so when i go outside i just throw it in my leg pocket, doesn't seem to get in the way too much. I'm funny with things, once i find something i like, i tend to stick to it. Peasant mini in blue next, then possibly a large and small in wood trim with the belt pouches as a birthday treat. Svord do some wicked looking fixed blades and if they hold up anything like these folders do, then i may look at them as well. One of my favourite ever knives is my mora companion (without the fancy firelighter built in).... simple, sturdy, cost nothing to buy, and keeps a nice workable edge to it.

I just got one of these and, when you take it apart, there is a second pair of holes for the brass stop pin. This allows you to move the pin so that the tang/opening lever will be completely hidden inside the handle when fully opened. This would eliminate a hotspot when you use the knife for a long time.
Great to know. Thanks.
How well does the knife stay open using a variety of grips that don't hold the tang part down.

fitter it out always use the right tool for the job. HOWEVER the best tool is the tool you have on you.
YEESSS
YEEEEEESSSSSS FINALLY THE SVORD IS BEING NOTICED
Mohamed Shwesh I think Nutnfancy did a review of this knife awhile back.
It's actually one of the most appreciated things I own. Its cheap sure but I really like the fact that its a purpose built knife.
I'm quite happy you uploaded this! Usually I buy $30-$40 Sheffield pocket knives (2 so far) and lost one due to a hole in my pocket that was caused because of the knife. Mainly in fear of loosing an expensive knife. In all time using them I have been pretty well satisfied with my knife needs but wondered what other options there were. I think you answered that! These are brilliant little knives, it might be neat to remove the blade from the hand it comes with and make a wood handle.
You can get a wood handled version.
