Price has gone up to over $40... and ironically, they sell the axe with the sharpening stone, and a sheath, as mentioned in the video! lmao!
Now only showing from one seller, roughly $50 after shipping and tax. Looks like they got a nice boost from this vid!
Mr Blimp I just got one about 5 months ago maybe less and it’s stood up to a beating and has been great holds an edged great. Little reshaping of the handle and it’s wonderful to me
You must live in canada
They kept the price at 40, and ditched the sharpening stone and sheath...so stupid.
@Mr Blimp I agree....with both points. I'd really hold out for the Husqvarna. Wranglerstar seems to have sold out on some of these reviews. I've got a scar on my foot from using this ax...its extremely light weight and tends to bounce even witha good edge. Avoid it, its dogshit of an ax.

No worry, it's a normal metaphor, you know since a long time men like to use their beloved things as parallel nicknames,
For example, a ship's unit is "she" or a mother ship, a tank can be "she", in the motherland can be "she", your beloved Harley-Davidson, your new shiny sports car, or your faithful axe, of course it can be "she" to a man too (laughs)

I bought the Trail Boss axe after watching this something like 5 years ago… been swinging it ever since - split wood with it today in fact which brought me back here. I don’t have anywhere near the Gransfors Bruk collection you do, but the mistakes/skills I learned swinging and caring for the Cold Steel have allowed me take better care of my properly nice axes. And with quality in mind, I take care of all my handles and store the axes in the same place through the winter and the Trail Boss is still rock solid whereas I’ve had 2 high end axes get loose. In all, I think this is one of your best recommendations from a shear value standpoint - even at todays price of $29
Just picked one up on Amazon for $22. Gotta say it looks good from the handle to the head. Good grain orientation. Stupid shellac but looking forward to using it after some refurbishing.
…Just came back from camping with my brothers. We beat the heck out of the Trail Boss and it kept on ticking! The handle is a bit large for the head but overall it rocks! It’s a beast and I’m looking forward to tricking it out!
can you do the cheapest machete?
easy, Tramontina, cheap, real carbon steel, they don't have any edge but after you put a decent edge on it you got a true work horse
deathangellink with a machete you can't have too hard of a carbon steel. If you hit a rock or a knot you will chip your edge.
i know, but i believe that tramontina use 1045 or 1055 for their machete . and any blade will either chip or roll the edge on a rock
test tramontina yourself, put a decent edge on one and go beat the sh*t of it. for the price you can't go wrong, SPECIALLY the camp knife with the 12 inch blade. personally i prefer to add some hockey stick on the handle for better grip, but it maybe because i am Canadian
ho you can also try cold steel, a little bit more expensive but still affordable and the kraton handle will stick to your hand and is decently comfortable.
I'm from Brazil, and people here think Tramontina's machetes are too flexible, so they kinda "sing" if you don't hit with good edge alignment. The preferred brands here are Matão and Collins (the old ones, with wooden handles). But I think Matão only supplies locally, which are sturdier.
I personally like tramontinas because they come with a good grind. I have one Matão and I had to put a bevel in it myself. Plus, Tramontinas are very cheap.
Anyway, whatever you do, just DON'T buy a machete with a plastic handle. Wood handle or nothing.
i agree, wood or nothing, and yes there is better than tramontina, but for the price ?

I might have pick one of these up after finding out it's from cold steel. I bought their Bowie style machete on a whim last year and figured it would be kinda gimmicky but after putting an edge on it I use it constantly for things like splitting lighter pine, hacking animal bones off when I skin something, or trimming limbs around the house. It was like $19 and I don't think you can possibly break the darn thing under any normal use. Ended up ordering 2 more incase they ever stop making them again like they did a few years ago.

"I have the justification machine go into overdrive when it comes to Swedish axes"
- Wranglerstar, July 6th, 2017.
I don't. All you have to do is use something and look at the steel...
I got this ax for my b-day a year ago and I really do enjoy it. Swings great, cuts great, and fits under the spare tire cover in our car in case I need to ax something into submission whilst on the go.
I bought one a few weeks ago. I thought much the same about it when I looked it over. I bought a couple of boy scout axes in the mid 50's that were made by Plumb at that time fine hand forged thin axes. This axe, though not as finely finished, is a very well designed tool. Cost was less than $30.
That's the thing with Cold Steel. Every once in a while you get a really well made item for a good price. Other times, you get an item that shows no quality control what so ever. It's just hard to know what to expect when you order something from them.
You're thinking of 15 years ago. They've really amped up the quality control and materials. They still have some low priced stuff, but they also have a large percentage of really great blades made with steels like 52100, CTS-XHP and BD1, CPM-3V, and CPM-S35VN, not to mention some really excellent DSC Damascus. The days of hit or miss AUS-8 and VG-1 are pretty much gone. If you manage to break an SRK made with CPM-3V, chances are you were trying to drive railroad spikes or you picked a fight with Hephaestus, Greek God of blacksmithing and metallurgy.
I have several knifes from them, no quality issues as of yet. Only complaint is the tolerances on my folding pocket knife are so close that the lock gets jammed with pocket lint, but it's nothing a little water or a toothpick can't fix.
I want to see your whole axe collection! How do you store them?

"I like owning it, I like looking at it, I like swinging it. i like... I like everything about it.." Hm. Sounds familiar.
This video answered a question I had that I was going to ask about servicing your tools while in the field. Using just a file and that cool little sharpening stone which would be light enough to pack you were able to put a decent edge on that axe. I am for sure going to for sure purchase that file and stone. I would assume you could do the same for a knife as well if you needed to. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in these videos.
I bought this axe last year. I've used it to do everything around the homestead that an axe can do even if a different style would have been better...just to see if it could. My particular axe has held up well. The handle is in good condition. It splits small rounds acceptably but attention needs to be paid due to the head thickness being thinner than the handle. It's on the light side for true "forestry" tasks and is not suitable for modern logging except for limbing. It can be made razor sharp and holds an edge decently. It can be used for rough shaping and carving. I'd class it as a good camp axe for hikers and a good "truck tool". It's a nimble tool and in a pinch it'll get the job done. Mine was well worth the money spent.
All the sharpening and polishing you do on blades reminds me of the constant polishing of boots in boot camp. Cheers for that!
