  • Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching. In this video we are called to expedite to a scene where a semi driver failed an attempt at a U-turn on a major roadway in a local city, jack-knifed his truck, buried it in mud, and blocked over two lanes of the road. Kenny, Ethan, and I respond with our Peterbilt 389X with a Miller Industries, Century 1150R Rotator towing and recovery and our traffic control unit 16 to help clear the roadway and get this driver out of trouble . The trailer was fully loaded and down hard on the drive tires. The dolly legs, landing gear to some, hit the pavement hard. That, along with the truck in the mud brought the whole combination to an abrupt halt. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

    Ron, you never judge a driver for his mistake, you just do the job that is to be done. Watching your videos you bring a level of comfort to a driver when the driver knows they have messed up. Thanks to you and your crew for what you do.

      This wasn't a mistake. You don't accidentally make a u-turn and drive into a ditch. Too many people are afraid of hurting someone's feelings for something that could have been completely avoided. What if this "Mistake" ended up hurting some innocent family?

    I've had to be towed a few times going up Snoqualmie Pass and Mt. Hood. I lost traction on both even with 100,000lbs. Both times by the time the tow got there it became a white out. They saved my ass. Mistakes happen especially the first time I got stuck when state patrol stopped like 10 of us trucks because they were clearing an accident and got all 10 of us stuck. Ended up having to shut down the pass because of us. I have so much respect for these guys!

    Still fun to see where the work gets done.

    A maneuver like that with a loaded tractor trailer, doesn't even remotely qualify as a "mistake". That is 100% pure incompetence. A truck driver should know that you NEVER try to turn around on a steep down slope, in the grass and especially in wet conditions.

      I was just thinking about the stolen BMW in the woods video. Back then Ethan did a lot of standing around, waiting to be told what to do. Now days, Ethan takes charge, does what needs to be done, and even remembers to do the 3-toots to the horn for reverse. He's come a long way, and one day he will be a leader, and Ron will get to do what his dad did, and get to enjoy semi-retirement. Kenny is a darn good worker too, he seems to have also come a long way since we first saw him.

    That remote is well worth the extra cost, both for safety outside the dead zone if something snaps, and it allows you to see the entire scene. So important to not get too greedy with each pul, too far forward loses down force needed for traction, too close gives it more lift than drag/pulling force. Ethan is learning to Anticipate what you need next, which is good and will make him a great team player when you have to use two or three wreckers on a recovery.

    Good clean recovery. I've been having a thought about the Q siren. Assuming the truck has a city horn, instead of using a dashboard switch what about wiring a double throw switch to the horn button. That way with the selector in the siren position you don't have to move your hand from the steering wheel to activate the siren. When you're not running code you can just flip the switch and still have the "soft" horn. I remember years ago police cars having a similar setup.

    Glad everyone is ok no one injured. On this one the Rotator got a work out. He grunted some on this job. This was a great team effort a great job by everyone including the truck driver. He actually listened to instructions & the job went a lot smoother plus he was smart & didn't t pull the pin. So I'll say this in closing. Well done everyone including Ron & your crew (as always) so be careful out there be safe and God bless you ALL.

      You may forever be the optimist, but some of us might be a little hesitant, to rely on that particular driver to use his judgement to apply the brakes at the point where he came free in order to keep from rolling back into a very expensive rotator.

    Enjoyable as always. I have 2 comments. I am surprised the police are not wearing hi-vis. Those uniforms do not make them easily seen, especially when there are distractions as you get at any incident. Hi-vis makes such a difference in being seen. You noted you should have broken out the comms. A good example of why taking a step back and a breath, even a Take 5, is such a good idea. It is so easy to get caught up in the moment and forget that a pause to question, can we do this better? No harm done, but the headsets would have made it all a bit less stressful. I may use this in my next H & S meeting.

    Mr Pratt, I appreciate the kindness, civility and politeness you display to everyone you encounter. You remind us that we ALL make mistakes, and you refrain from making harsh judgements. With all the division that so sadly exists in our country, the decency and respect that you show makes you wonderful role-model for all of us. I salute you for showing us a better way. With much gratitude for your way of being.

    Your sirens sound like an air raid siren by the way... is this normal in the states? Asking from Australia..

    • @russellleaming5250
      @russellleaming5250 Рік тому +3

      It is a Federal Signals Q2B siren. It is mechanically spun by an electric motor. It also typically has a mechanical brake. Most of them were (and still are) mounted on Fire trucks. I don't recall when Ron got his, but there is a video in which it was first used.
      Decades ago, while working as a Paramedic in Raleigh, NC the ambulance to which I usually was assigned had both an electronic siren and a Q2B siren. It was really, really LOUD!

    • @deconteesawyer5758
      @deconteesawyer5758 Рік тому +3

      We have never had an actual air raid in the States, so we are not at all accustomed to hearing one, but we do have Severe Weather Sirens, and they will sound
      outdoor warning for tornadoes and
      winds greater than 70mph and hail
      1.75” (golf ball) or greater. That is normal here, with testing monthly.

    • @MrYfrank14
      @MrYfrank14 Рік тому

      Yes, it is normal but it is also an old style.
      Most , if not all, new emergency vehicles come with electronic sirens that make all sorts of different noises

    Wow! Ethan has gone from ya ya dad as a teen to an young adult thinking ahead of the game in a short period of time! I am so happy for you both. I must be honest I was a bit worried when Ethan started going on jobs, that he wasn't grasping how serious the job really is. You are in one of the most dangerous professions in world & listening to Ethan back then I was worried he wouldn't get it. Well this video showed everyone he does get it and he was thinking ahead of the process, which showed me he had matured and also listened to his dad! High Five Ethan! Welcome to adulting... lol...my kids hate adulting but thankfully they are all good at it. Although I know they would like mom and dad to fix everything...lol
    One thing Ethan.... PLEASE 🙏 pay much more attention to your back side... it only takes a blink of an eye of lack of attention to become a statistic!!! When you walked out into the traffic area and didn't look behind you first.... REMEMBER most people driving shouldn't be allowed too! Rubber neckers will get you killed.... DON'T TRUST ANY DRIVER!
    God Bless & God Bless America

    • @jonathanbair523
      @jonathanbair523 Рік тому

      Rubber neckers and distracted drivers both will get you killed.... My dad back in the early 90's always told me "When walking on a road, always look the driver in the eye." At that time, we had a paper rout and few streets it was more practical to do on foot, and I also walked allot back then for fun in the city.. I am glad my dad got me in the habit back then before cell phones where a think everyone had.
