This reminds me of the guy who bought the 1985 Iroc Z brand new, then towed it home and put it in the back of a semi trailer for over 20 years with only 4 miles on it. Still had the window sticker on it, as well as plastic on the seats and steering wheel. My boss at the time bough it off Ebay and he let me clean it up and after a month of professional and meticulous cleaning and polishing, it looked like it rolled off the assembly line. Surprisingly it had zero rodents enter the car, not one spec of mouse poop anywhere and the inside actually still smelled brand new with no dust or dirt anywhere inside! I sold that car at auction and it now sits in a car museum and won’t be driven again. Look it up on UA-cam. 85 Iroc with 4 miles and you will see the story. I’ll never forget being a part of that, it was truly amazing! Thank you Jack Oliver (My former employer, who is now passed away) for giving me the honor of being a part of that time capsule. May you rest in peace.
Watching this video was not only satisfying (as usual), it was somewhat emotional for me. I'm 58 years old and my neighbor had a new one of these in orange back in 1978 when I was 13 years old. I lusted after that car and now I see one resurrected 45 years later. It's amazing and my reaction is hopefully understandable. This might be your best video ever
I have done over $400 k from a $ 100k capital so far since deciding to take more risks for growth, I have had a succession of payouts from trading Crypto, I recently diversified some profits into Forex and dividend paying Stocks and some for long term hold

'69er too! I loved this era Corvette. Just so beautiful. I'm not a sports car driver at all, but it feels like this is sleek and sexy. Other era cars certainly looked great too, like the Mustang, Trans Am, etc, but to me they seemed to have a much more aggressive look. This Vette has a "yeah, I'll totally kick your behind, but you can't stop looking at me."
Me too 70's and 80's most of my memory of driving in cars was 80's I got my DL in 1985. I really wanted a Toyota 4x4 pickup didn't get one until 2002. I did lot of motocross fit one bike in the back.
This is absolutely incredible! Watching this Corvette come back to life after 45 years is like witnessing a piece of history being restored. The fact that it only has 1,599 original miles makes it even more special. Can't wait to see what it looks like after the full restoration!🤩🤩

The other two are obviously a silver anniversary and a pace car. My husband ordered a silver anniversary in 78 and is still his favorite Vette ever. And he’s had a bunch since. Right now it’s a 2003 golden anniversary and it was his last! Great video guys! Very rewarding! ❤️
I agree, the white one is not a silver anniversary but the other two are with the special paint job. I had two '78's, one a silver anniversary and a white one with beige interior. The guys did a great job!
I agree the far car is a pace car. If it's low mileage with the original Indy Pace Car door decals as the technician said in the video AND if it is one of the very few that came with the manual 4 speed, it is still VERY valuable and much sought after! Probably deep into 6 figures if with the factory 4 speed manual. However, if you'll go through the video again, you'll catch a glimpse of a wheel on the middle or rear corvette. That spoke pattern bronze color factory wheel came on 1982 bronze collector edition that came with electronic crossfire injection. This collector's edition was to mark the end of the C3 production. There were no 1983 Corvettes because they were re-tooling for the radically changed C4 in 1984. The 82 collector's edition came with the first attempt at electronic crossfire fuel injection since some C2s with the 427 big block came with mechanical fuel injection in the mid 60s. I'm pretty sure that's what is under all those many years of dirt and air pollution that has settled on all of these cars. I can't wait to see if I'm right on the so far unidentified corvette.
@@teddbare2000 Not many know that there was not an '83 Corvette. I did purchase my '84 Vette in June of '83 though. Poorly made. The new digital dashboard fail soon after I purchased it. Both left and right windows failed, and the a/c also failed in the first 2000 miles. I paid $25K for the car. That was my last American made car. Going back to the '78 Vetts, when I picked them up I circled all the scratches with a grease pencil. When I complained to the District Manager, he agreed they both needed to be repainted at their expense.
This video is not just about restoring a car; it's about respecting automotive heritage. The lesson here goes beyond the mechanics of restoration; it's about cherishing and preserving the legacy of classic automobiles. The care taken to revive this Corvette highlights the importance of maintaining cultural artifacts for future generations. It's a reminder that each vehicle, no matter its age, has a story to tell, and it's our responsibility to honor that narrative. Truly inspiring work!
On top that people have money and not care about them(cars) because they got money so its just miscellaneous and having these types of cars you have have to maintain it
I started mechanic work in a GM Dealership in 1979. First motor job was in a 1980 that the factory left the engine oil out. I am 68 years old and made it to GM Master tech. As a young tech in his 20's there was many things that mechanics disliked because of tight access. Pulling the motor was one of them. The hood release cable was a common problem. As long as rodents did not chew up wiring it should be good to go. It seems amazing how mice can find a way inside. Things like brakes maybe rusted solid. I rebuilt many of those four piston calipers, before the stainless sleeve rebuilt calipers became available. Good luck looks Great.
These could have been built better. I had to pull my radiator in the 3rd year due to one tank started leaking that had just enough solder holding it together and leak proof to get it out the factory door. That's what the repair tech at the radiator shop that cleaned and re-soldered that tank and the other end tank while I had it out told me. Also, when it rained, water came in somewhere and dripped on the passenger's feet. But I still love mine.

"Wow, incredible work on restoring the 1978 Corvette! The attention to detail is amazing, and it's impressive to see such a rare low-mileage car brought back to life. Your expertise and craftsmanship really shine through in every part of the process. Thanks for sharing this journey-it's truly inspiring!"
A friend's dad had a two-tone black & silver anniversary 1978 that had less than 50 miles on it when we were in high school. Sat in the attached garage. I asked a mutual friend just a few years ago what ever happened to it (the dad had died). He said that they sold it with the same miles, but it wasn't the gem it once was. Door hinges were rusted solid, brake calipers rusted, many other rust issues. I don't know much more on details, but funny to see this nearly exact example from my teen years!! Thanks for the vid!
I have 1978 Chrysler Cordoba with 24,000 I bought it new its in a garage covered with covers when you open the door still smells like new. I bought a 1974 Pinto station wagon and almost never used the Cordoba that at the time cost 9,000 $ still have the pinto best thing I ever bought PINTOS GET A BAD RAPP I COULD ALWAYS COUNT ON MY PINTO😊
Then the owner must have been pretty lonely. No wife, no family, no friends, no one. And even then, everyone can see the big garage on the property, because it is not Bruce Wayne in a bat cave. When I die, dozens of people will probably know if there is still a garage on my property. Especially as you can just see the estate/house nearby. 3:02
@@sirbowen4358 Family members can often have old cars sitting in garages that only there parents or grand parents ever used and once the parents are gone it never gets touched again because a new garage was built etc. So stuff like this will continue sitting or be forgotten about entirely because it's assumed that it's now junk.
The restoration of a barn find Corvette with only 1599 original miles is a journey of discovery, care, and passion. From the initial excitement of the find to the meticulous first wash and detailed restoration, each step is a labor of love.
Great detailing work fellas... Brought back memories of my father and his Corvettes. He was sales manager for a Chevy dealer back in the mid 50's. He would get new Corvettes in on a Friday, throw a set of headers on, take it to the local strip and win a few, then bring it back and sell it on Monday! I was still a gleam in his eye at that time...haha... On another note, my cousin who was injured in Nam, had partially recovered by 1978, turned around and bought a silver 1978 Anniversary Edition. I got to ride in it one time, then he wrapped it around a tree and died, though his wife luckily survived. I have always held a dream in my heart to own a Corvette one day, but at 68 years old, disabled, and broke, it will always remain a dream. The crowning achievement of the design team is the 1963 split-window Stingray, and I would gladly give just about anything to own one of those. I'm sure that heaven is indeed furnished by Chevrolet, and there is most definitely a full stable of 63 splits there!!!
If you can make it a major priority in your minds eye, you can achieve whatever you want. You just might need a ton of help along the way. Its just a car, a thing, so it is attainable. Get in contact with the different Corvette societies and within a year you’ll be behind the wheel of one that you own. Do or die trying. God Bless you.
I had a 78 Pace car. You are correct. Not a power house, but it was a head turner. I was 27, single at that time. Those were some of the best years of my life. I got married and sold the Corvette to buy a 200 acre hobby farm. Got divorced 23 years later. I miss the Corvette everyday.
Same thing can be said about the type of owners that let some good cars rot and not sell it for someone else to enjoy it and give the love and care it deserves because "i'll fix it someday", yet that day never comes and by the time it comes it's already too far gone in some cases.
I am a car enthusiast because of this car. My grandfather had a 1981 Stingray and it was a beauty… I loved this video. I’ll be waiting for the other 2 videos. I wish I could share this with him one last time😔
I had a 1979 L-82 4-speed, Corvette yellow with glass T-tops. Watching this video makes me yearn for it, I'd wished I never sold it. I re- lived your steps of detailing this car as I pretty much did the cleaning procedures much like you did. My significant other just purchased an 84 two tone blue so we will be busy following your steps in tackling this vehicle. Great job guys! I think I can find that jack now, lololol!
I tried to buy a new 1980 Corvette with those exact specs and color but the bank wouldn't qualify me for the loan as I was only 20 and not making a lot of money. 😢
Amazing job guys. What a find. Sitting here in my garage at home in 🇬🇧 smoking a Churchill cigar watching you work your magic, life doesn’t get much better👍👍👍
Very nice work guys. A quick FYI -- it's not a 25th Anniversary "Edition" despite the nose badge stating "1953 Anniversary 1978" that all 1978 Corvettes had. The 25th Anniversary Edition cars featured a two-tone paint scheme of silver and gray.
There was the pace car black and silver, the silver/grey anniversary edition and all other colors all still had anniversary badges. I bought the silver/Grey on my 18th birthday after looking at pace cars and other non anniversary color corvettes available that year.
My dad had the exact same one. When I was 12 years old he got so drunk at my uncle’s I had to drive us home,it was about 60 miles. When we got home I told my mom I drove from uncle Tony’s and she said no you didn’t and I said I really did. She goes outside and he’s passed out in the passenger seat and she started screaming and yelling at him. He gets in the driver seat and puts it in drive instead of reverse and smashed through the garage door. In those days a DWI was like a parking ticket . If anybody is wondering what he was drinking,it was a quart of Canadian Club.
I owned a '77 and a '74....the '74 I built with a 450hp stroker..... Hands down, the C3 is the sexiest Corvette series EVER..... Gorgeous automobiles...... But I got rid of them for my dream car - my 'Cuda 👍
These videos are satisfying to watch. They have a calming effect. I think the younger generation who have mental issues from being on social media too much should take some time to watch these guys do their magic. Could be a life changer! Just sayn".
wow! i'm flabbergasted with how amazing you both did in bringing this vintage back to life! just the fact that these cars were forgotten for so many years...great job you guys! ~watching from Hong Kong, SAR
I am a 54 year old man, I can bet everything I saw on this video was legit. Those interiors tell you the story, those are from our days. There's no way this vehicle used much. This was a brand new vehicle left in the garage for 45 years, without a doubt. Awesome video. Subbed and liked, would like to watch the other two cars too.
I looked at a new white '78 Z-28 with T-Tops and Carmine Red interior same as this Corvette, almost bought it the dealer wanted $7200 but I didn't care for the color scheme so I bought from a different dealer Forest Green and Camel Tan interior. The engine in this '78 corvette and my '78 Z-28 were both 350 V8, same emission layout and same interior materials and hardware. It's all legit.
i'm 66 and agree with the things you said. the leather is classic... ok, maybe they put new tires on her as I'm sure that old rubber was dried, cracked and just plain ugly...if it weren't for the rodents, the interior would have been perfectly new.
Weird that someone bought these cars purely as investments, put them in a once heated garage, and then left everything to deteriorate like that. Wonder if the original owner died, and his kids didn't understand the importance of looking after things...
Might not have had kids and it was inherited by someone who didn't know it was there or value cars. It's been 40 years, it's could have been inherited several times by now.
Dear toppers from WD Detailing, I have been following you since yesterday, because I accidentally ended up on your channel because you were polishing a car and that was a red Corvette, which was uploaded to your channel 1 year ago, and I really enjoyed it. admiration for your work! It's a shame that I live in the Netherlands, otherwise I would have come by with my gray Volkswagen Bora, because it will soon have to go to a car cleaning company! I have subscribed to your channel so I look forward to hopefully many more videos to come! Greetings, Harmjan
In 1995 I was in Missouri for a short stint and the small city I was in had a radio show that was a call in sell show and an elderly lady called in and said she had an automobile in her barn for sale . Her son was killed in Vietnam me being a nam vet i felt her sorrow ,he had bought the car just before he left for the nam . I didn’t have much money at the time but I wanted to look at the car . I was the first one to see it and I could not believe my eyes after removing the tarp . She only wanted $500.00 for the car , it was a corvette stingray , light blue , it was new , immediately went home and asked my stepdad if i could begging please borrow the money to purchase the car , he knows value so i for sure thought it was a slam dunk , and to my surprise he said no , i was literally in tears .😢😢😢😢
NICE!! Having worked for years before I retired, in the car detailing/reconditioning work field, I must say that I'm impressed!! 👍 So many little things that brought back memories of long time ago. Everything from getting up close and personal to the paint job, tilting ones head to the side, looking side ways at it, following every line and crease in the cars body, to determine if the job is done right, or if something else needs to be done. Can't really say that I miss working in that industry. Much due to back then, we didn't have all the specialty equipment such as "cleaning/polishing/waxing etc". that there is now. So, it was A LOT of more hands on hard work, at the same time making sure to be careful and NOT mess up the paint job or interior... Also, the machines were a lot heavier. Granted, being a woman, I sure built a ton of muscle mass... LOL Also, many of the cleaning agents that we used daily, are now forbidden due to that they can be highly detrimental to ones health. Thankfully all I came away with is carpal tunnel in both wrists and a chronic back ache. I was quite warped in the head to start with, 🙃 so I'm not really experiencing that much of a change, having worked daily with with strong solvents and tri based liquid cleaning for the interior of the vehicles and of course, no PPE whatsoever. 😳 Anyhow, really nice job!! and thanks for the trip down memory lane. ☺
Even with the low mileage, these cars are not that desirable, it’s to bad the owner decided to let them sit without at least doing the basics to preserve them. To be viable vehicles they will need a complete going through, not just a cleaning, you did a great job of making it look presentable. 👍
Wow!!! Just WOW! So beautiful when you opened that door! And I subscribed!!! Worth. . . $379,758.72 aaaanndd!! YES you're using a Harbor Freight jack, that is great, makes you more real to me.
probably because dude was like why do you wanna do my cars and I don’t know you and what is it in it for you type of question. I think the guy just got out of prison and he thinks someone’s out to get them or something so they sweeten the deal. I’m just guessing.
Well said, was thinking the same thing, I suspect he wanted to sell all three so didn’t want any damage which would mean expense for him… Me thinks he’s a real 🔔end
Did he say that the original buyer is the one who ordered the cleaning? And if you would have the choice of picking which free clean you want, would you choose the best or at random?
Great point Stuart. People tend to take care of the people and things that are important to them. Clearly this owner had other priorities. It seems to me that this is a form of hypocrisy.
Honestly, after having spent 25 years in the tire business, you'd be amazed at how well any given tire will look if they haven't been exposed to the light of day even after decades of being mounted on a wheel. Having said that, there's no way in Hell that I'd actually _drive_ that car _ANYWHERE_ before I had the tires replaced.
I don’t know. I look at it like the only way a vehicle will appreciate instead of depreciating in value. Kinda like leaving money in someone’s banking account .
Dude shut up its not disgraceful. It's an amazing story that your most likely not able to afford to begin with amd these guys make a living outta it. Chill lol. That car can be worth a lot with a simple clean
@@HalAltman why are you so mad though? Are you the owner of these vehicles? If not, then how does this affect your life any? That garage with all the cars in it could burn to the ground tonight and it wouldn’t change my life any.

@@Rosemary-fu3hj A friend in high school had a Pinto and we abused it to no end, but it never broke down!!
How can anyone forget about these cars for over 40 years? It's a huge garage that everyone can see every day.
Death. Disability. Destitution.
Rich people
For content only.. they fake it
Then the owner must have been pretty lonely.
The reason why i love this video so much, its how clean everything is, such a saved car. And also gotta love the Corvette, best looking cars.❤
The amount of care put into that cleaning is priceless. Job well done!!
Sorry to hear of the loss in your family 😔
DampRid is FANTASTIC stuff, here in Florida it's a must in cars, garages, and sheds
these cars are priceless at the end of the 21st century .
Never a super-car performer, but I’ve always secretly loved the look of the C3. That red interior…wow
No car in the 70s or early 80s was. From Corvette to Ferrari, emissions made them all extremely underwhelming.
You should get Derek with VGG to get these running. That would be a great video!
A fella might watch that. Yup, probably would.
he's too busy playing with his balls! on that weird show he's got now with all the sponsorships with AdvanceAuto!!!

no, how ever much I like Derek, please do this properly and have the engine rebuild and replace all gaskets, rubbers and plastics first.
@@realguy577 Just his "BALLS" ?? Anything else? (LOL!)
I gotta give these guy a big high ten 🙌. They are truly passionate at what they do no matter how much work is involved.
I dont understand why someone would buy a car and then just leave it in a garage having never really drove it. Smh
Having a car and not driving it is like not having sex with your girl to keep her prime for the next guy
Same thing can be said about the type of owners that let some good cars rot and not sell it for someone else to enjoy it and give the love and care it deserves because "i'll fix it someday", yet that day never comes and by the time it comes it's already too far gone in some cases.
They are NUTS.
Life Happens. I don’t judge others decisions. There’s probably a Kia somewhere with low miles that will be on Barret Jackson one day. 😂
Be worth lot money in the future, untouched and low mileage? But I do agree money wasted just sitting
I hope that No Nonsense Know How is the mechanic you will use. By far the best real mechanic on UA-cam. Great video!
Nope he is too rough for cars like these.
I am a car enthusiast because of this car. My grandfather had a 1981 Stingray and it was a beauty… I loved this video. I’ll be waiting for the other 2 videos. I wish I could share this with him one last time😔
Yes, Stingray! Nobody called these cars Corvettes back then. From an 80 yr old who was there.
😢
That was satisfying having this car cleaned and going again. What a difference.
This was quite a find!! Great video! Of course, I still want to see and Hear it Fired Up!

You are correct sir
Correct
I thought that it was silver and gray under that dust. Then he opened the door and I said, "Hold up!!! Wait a minute!!!"
There was the pace car black and silver, the silver/grey anniversary edition and all other colors all still had anniversary badges. I bought the silver/Grey on my 18th birthday after looking at pace cars and other non anniversary color corvettes available that year.
I admire the energy and love you put into this clean up👍👍
I was born in 1978. This car is beautiful. I love corvettes.
I graduated that year. 😮

Funny and sad story 😂

I am a 54 year old man, I can bet everything I saw on this video was legit. Those interiors tell you the story, those are from our days. There's no way this vehicle used much. This was a brand new vehicle left in the garage for 45 years, without a doubt. Awesome video. Subbed and liked, would like to watch the other two cars too.
Yeah right! You are gullible, my friend.
Ditto! 💯💕
i'm 66 and agree with the things you said. the leather is classic... ok, maybe they put new tires on her as I'm sure that old rubber was dried, cracked and just plain ugly...if it weren't for the rodents, the interior would have been perfectly new.
sure thing that why the rubbers are in brand new shape even the tires are while they going to rod after 8 years lmao

Criminal for them to be left to rot all these. Years they have to be gone thru. And rehabbed..

I’d see if you can get all the cars out of that garage and then maybe do an episode on cleaning the garage. Make it look like a vette showroom.
My guess is once they’re all done they head to Barret-Jackson.

He did'nt, why would he syart now? an example of what too much money can do.

Anyhow, really nice job!! and thanks for the trip down memory lane. ☺
Even with the low mileage, these cars are not that desirable, it’s to bad the owner decided to let them sit without at least doing the basics to preserve them. To be viable vehicles they will need a complete going through, not just a cleaning, you did a great job of making it look presentable. 👍

Having said that, there's no way in Hell that I'd actually _drive_ that car _ANYWHERE_ before I had the tires replaced.
