Thanks for posting this video. Do you have another follow up video to show how to actually replace the solenoid tensioner because mine is really loose. But I don’t know what to do next. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
A bad solenoid can cause a malfunctioning phaser which will prevent the valve timing from advancing or retarding as needed. As a result, the engine will start running rough and over time the phasers will create noise similar to the one on the video.
I have a 2009 750 li that’s making a knocking sound it has drive train malfunction it will start but won’t drive it will just rev do yk what I should check
First popular culprit is your engine oil, try a much "thicker" oil. If you been using 0w30, try 5w30. Also check on your gas, always use premium or octane 93, this too has been a reason why engines develop knocking sounds. If those fail then you may need a full tune-up.

If you get a replacement tensioner it will fix the looseness. I will post a follow up video soon. Sorry about that.
Can solenoid make that knocking sound?

Was this knocking sound causing misfires on that bank with the bad solenoid?
The knocking sound was not causing misfire, but a bad phaser did and yes it was on the bank with a bad solenoid.
Can you tell if you replaced them and it worked? I have the same head and thought it was a bad engine. Is there a follow-up video?
Fixed it and it never came back for service. I guess it worked. Make sure you check the oil you use. Sometimes can cause the noise.
@all-about-cars-basics I have the exact same noise tomorrow I'll open it up and let you know if it worked thank you very much
@all-about-cars-basics And you don't need to replace the chain either

Normally if it is an all-wheel drive. You check on the propeller shaft. If it has gone bad the engine will rev but it won't drive.
That knocking coming from the black tensioner? Can u change it from that small spot or u need to take the motor out?
You can change it from right there.
Do you have a video or instructions of how to change it on drivers side? Mine is really loose on my 2012 x6 5.0
@@kevinsaeger4791 I don't have one at the moment, but since you mentioned it, I will be doing one soon.
@@all-about-cars-basicsif I buy you a round trip flight you will do mine for me?
I got same problem but my car have engine light on with cylinder 1 and cylinder 5 are misfiring, so is that the rod bearing?
It may not be. Is the knock sound there?
