Amazing recordings. Speck, Downed and Daddy virtually perfectly formed as they would appear a couple of years later. Im still amazed at the originality of these compositions almost 50 years after the event.
Powerhouse band from day one! Musicianship, songwriting, innovation, and damn great American Rock and Roll. I would have gone to see this band every night had I been on the scene back then. Finally made up for it 1979 onward seeing as many shows possible.
Every Monday morning i get online and the first thing I'm looking forward to is seeing what the latest is here. And every Monday I'm in a great mood thx to this. THANK YOU!
FAN CLUB is even better than what's on SACT. Robin's developing, but obviously special. Rythm section is IN THE POCKET and the bridge KILLS. Outro is really damn good, too.
I bought every Cheap Trick record unheard except the last one. The first was Dream Police thinking Surrender was on it. Hooked. 2009 was the last real Cheap Trick record in my opinion. By the time of the last one, I'd had enough and skipped it. If you'd have told 17 year old me buying Dream Police that that day would come, I'd say you were crazy.
Rick never wore a baseball cap before. Not until a show in 1976 when a fan threw a cap onstage and Rick snatched it and wore it from that moment on. Different caps where used henceforth.
Down was almost grunge/ alternative 20 years early...became a emo/pop gem. Matthew Sweet definitely listened to some Cheap Trick growing up..Take Me could be on his Girlfriend album.
Can somebody clarify something please? Near the end of "Fan Club" you hear Xeno referenced a few times. Is he on any part of the recordings or did Robin take the helm sometime in 1974? Thank you.
Bun E's drumming is great here...way up in the mix..

Yet another reason why Cheap Trick is my favorite band. Thank you Bun E and Steve!
Fan Club. My all time fave CT song.
These demos are just incredible, thanks Steve and Bun! Love my Monday mornings…
These are great. I love hearing how the arrangements evolved and young Robin’s voice finding the sweet spots.
For a demo the drum sounds are stellar!
It's the drummer 😉
Take Me I'm Yours has almost a Roxy kind of feel to it here. What a privilege to hear this, thank you so much!!
Thank you! 75-78, my favorite!
I would maybe include 79
Fan club straight up sounds like early 90s alt rock. Swear these guys were ahead of their time
You are so right!
With some Pink Floyd
Bowie like too
These sound great. Love the shout out to Xeno in "Fan Club"...
and Stewkey too!
Great stuff, thank you Bun E and Steve! These demos are awesome.

Downed is one of the best songs on In Color.... the version here is even better imo. Raw, manic, awesome
I hope the opening of the new Hard Rock Casino in Rockford leads to some onstage peace and love among you guys. I'm ready to fly out for it.
I can’t speak for Tom or Robin but I wasn’t invited.
Thanks for the reply, Bun. As a lifelong fan of the band and each of your contributions to an amazing body of music, I'm sad to hear that.
Thanks Bun E👍🏻
The drumming is the best!

Listening to speck. Now you know why Nirvana sounded like Cheap Trick
100%
Downed sounds great! Very Who-ish!😊

These are INCREDIBLE!! Thanks, Bun E. and Steve!
Thanks Bun and Steve. Better quality for the ones I had plus some new ones. Been waiting for these to appear for a while.
Thank You for posting. Great stuff. That is the first picture I ever saw with Rick without a baseball cap.

Hell yeah!!🤘 Fan Club, Down Down, Take Me ...Like 3 of my Favorites!! sounds awesome!! Rock N Roll 🐰E!!🥁🏁
Fan club, The anthem of a band that is already a classic
Wow.. absolutely awesome
Take me I’m yours In its truest expression
Down was almost grunge/ alternative 20 years early...became a emo/pop gem. Matthew Sweet definitely listened to some Cheap Trick growing up..Take Me could be on his Girlfriend album.
Incredible! Thank you for sharing these treasures!
Awesome! ❤️
Wow, I love these!
Cool stuff!
Wow.
OH YEAH! This is SWEET!
Best stuff ever
Home Depot owes you royalties for using Son of a Gun in their commercials.
Bun E sounds like Moon on "Son of a Gun"
"Speck" ( 5:00 ) does have a nice later-period Zeppelin feel...
Thanks as ever Bun. Out of interest what gear did you use to record the songs back then?
Another killer!
Did they really have a fan club in 1975?
Are these the demos you did with Joe Hardy in Memphis? I’ve heard stories… 😊
No. Done in the basement of Nielsen's music store.

Rick just name checked him because it's a "thank you" song, and yeah RZ was on board in late '74. As far as i know.
@@Hoagiemike Thank you for such a quick reply. That makes perfect sense. Enjoy the day!
"Last but not least, thank you Dr. Bop"
@@Hoagiemike October '74. Robin and Brian Beebe's (RIP) contract at the Dells ended on Labour Day weekend of the same year.
@@keef94Where would we be without Dr. Bop and The Headliners?
Pretty sure The Offspring ripped off that opening guitar riff on Son Of a Gun
