50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PINK FLOYD‘S ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON’. OUT MARCH 24
Announcing the release of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ as a deluxe box set to celebrate 50 years since the release of one of the best-selling albums of all time. Newly remastered, the box set will be released on 24th March 2023.
One of the most iconic and influential albums ever, Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ continues to find new audiences globally. The album was partly developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite at London’s Rainbow Theatre several months before recording began. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the US on 1 March and then in the UK on 16th March 1973. The new material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road studios) in London. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
The new deluxe box set includes CD and gatefold vinyl of the new 2023 remastered studio album and Blu-Ray + DVD audio featuring the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions. The set also includes additional new Blu-ray disc of Atmos mix plus CD and LP of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’. For full details see listing below.

@Mark Petersen Well done youngster. Finding proper music in amongst the crap we're surrounded with these days can be difficult. I hope this comes to mean as much to you as does for a couple of generations before you. I knew my kids were growing up well when they started listening to PF......and now their own kids are listening to it too.

      Hi
      I READ THIS MY FRIEND!
IN MY OPINION, YOU ARE AN ASSET TO YOUR PEERS ABD FAR AHEAD OF OTHERS IN YOUR GENERATION!
Don’t let it get you down too much. Others may not recognize it now, but the will later (probably after you get out of your teens)
      Stay strong (and independent)

I am 66 and go to the local Senior Center every day. Nobody knows about this wonder. My close in age siblings passed from ALS. My husband was born in 1972 and loves Ozzy but never heard this album through. I am lonely with this wonderful memory. This album is quite profound, especially to the suffering.

I'm 53 and started really listening to Floyd around your same age because the Wall was super popular at the time. You will find as you get older the meaning to this album changes for you. It will also get you though some of the hard times of you life. Good luck and Cheers to your journey my friend.

At last an official version on UA-cam with no interruptions between songs, this is the proper way to listen to this masterpiece.
Edit: Reading some of the comments saying that listening to it on youtube is not the proper way, I want to clarify that I have it on vinyl and I have a great turntable and audio equipment. For me that's the best way to listen to it... but what I meant is that it should be listened to without interruptions.

I bet no one will even read this, but this album means so incredibly much to me. I listened to this contantly during 2017, a very transitional peroid in my life. I was lonely, not happy at all, but somehow still hopeful... At the time of writing this, ca 7 years later, I'm genuinely content with my life. I'm not entirely sure it has anthing to do with this album, but somehow I attribute my current situation partly to the impact this album had on me during that difficult time. Thank you for reading :)

It is an artistic masterpiece of audio production. Plain and simple. But beyond that, an emotional portal into a broader understanding of life itself, if you dare to consider its content seriously... hence it's continued popularity through generations of music listeners who hear it. It can hit you a different times though, there is no age more appropriate than any other to visit the dark side of the moon.

In 1973, my neighbor came running across the street and started beating on my window, he said you have got to come hear this...he had an incredible sound system in his room, we darkened the room, one of the greatest and timeless musical experiences I've ever had...this album defies to be tied to any musical decade..

    • @ikigai47
      @ikigai47 5 місяців тому +39

That's hilarious. I totally get what you're saying. You're saying this album is the epitome of timeless, and I 100% agree. But at the same time it's easy for me to tie this to a decade. Early 1970s at its finest. It just happens to also be the greatest album of all time. This album is the biggest reason why, for me the greatest era of music was the 60s/70s even though it's slightly before my time and I didn't get to experience the vibe first hand, in real time like you did. The 80s were the most eclectic across the board (from Slayer to Duran Duran), creative and experimental with new music tech, the 90s were an amazing back to basics, less flash more substance time, and then we started falling off with the advent of the internet. Enter the "music should be free" crowd killing the dreams and incentive of countless, actually talented musicians, and replace them with soul-less mouse and keyboard warriors ready to click their way into being a talent, no talent required. Can't sing? NO PROBLEM! Auto-tune. Can't play an instrument? NO PROBLEM! Hit ctrl+I for instrument, then clicky click you're Beethoven! 😂

Financial crash: aren't we IN IT! My groceries are up almost 40% with less food. I'm not going hungry, kids are grown and contributing to society but so many are going hungry! Will it get worse? Is that your thought? There will be war in Britian first and then America is my guess. Our Govt is selling us.

I was 11 years old when this album came out and my older sister was 14 (RIP). She always had the cool albums and she had this album first. I remember going to Sears store in 1977 and picking up this album for myself after hearing it. From what I can remember, it never left my turntable. I played it and played it. It was life-changing for me. All these years later at 61 years old with terminal cancer I still listen to this album all the time and all of Pink Floyd’s collection. It’s been my favorite band forever.

I know, one of the first thing I noticed when listening to this album in the seventh grade ... I was lucky to borrow a magnetic tape with a fifth or sixth copy on it just for a week ... Unfortunately, I could not duplicate it at that time, not only because the quality on the next copy would further degrade, but I just did not have another tape recorder anywhere near (heavy reel-like Soviet-made). On the black market an album like this would cost 70-80 rubles (The Wall up to 150 rubles), while my parents made 140-220 rubles/month each ...

I enjoy how it Builds up and has several falls and peaks but when it gets to Eclipse Its like A steady Constant peak that gains Intensity till the Very Last Words its like it Brought me to the Center of An Eternally Cosmic Dimension of Galactic, Atomic, Quantum, and Spiritual Proportions and all is in Harmony.
It Escapes Time Completely...I think It wasnt Even recorded But is a Moment Frozen or Ingrained In the Webbing or waves Of The Complete Infinite Universe/ all Multiverses...
The Members of Pink Floyd just Gave us the Holy Grail, the First and Greatest Translation of TimeKeeper's Universe Code that resonates on Human Frequencies....

My dad’s favorite band was Pink Floyd. He passed away about 3 weeks ago. I grew up with the best taste in music thanks to my Daddio. His favorite song was Comfortably Numb, but his favorite lyric was from Time and it says “And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again.” When I turned my dad’s car on for the first time after he passed… guess what the first words I heard out of the speaker were? Exactly those lyrics!! My dad has been sending me so many signs since his passing and most of them involve Pink Floyd. I know he’s rockin’ out in heaven right now. Until I meet you there, Daddio. This album was released on this day, March 1, 1973 … 51 years ago. I was 18 and about to graduate high school in Iowa. It was life altering, especially the song ‘Time’ … the lyrics,
“And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
    You missed the starting gun”
This became like a mantra to me. It got me out of the place I was and to what I have become - a better man.
Music is a huge part of my life, and this remains one of my top 3 albums.

And yet you can listen to it over and over again.

This album and many others in this time period not only catch the artist at the peak of their creativity but are produced and engineered so brilliantly that they will never age or lose their luster and will stand up to endless listenings.

So true Joe. Amazingly, I am still hearing new things in it the older I get and I know this album inside and out. Only the great artists pull stuff like this off.
