    So many non-professionals watch color tutorials on UA-cam and think they understand color. It is way more challenging; only experience, education, and a whole lot of talent can give the proper results. I love this video because it shows the complexity that goes on in our heads as we set up a plan of action. Bravo! That color was amazing.

      I am not a hairstylist, but I have respect for the field. I believe that it is a science and an art, to do it well. When hairstylists talk to me about color, particularly about the complexities of color correction, I assume that my eyes glaze over.

    As a hairstylist too, more old school that wasn’t taught even on foils, but can do basic, …I really admire your ability to figure all that out, all the details, products, time, and just everything! I couldn’t have done it.

    You are an excellent hairdresser for so many various reasons. I love that you sit down and discuss the process and cost ahead of time. I love that you know instinctively which colors to reach for, I love that you chose to do a longer, slower processing, and I love how well you explain what you're doing to us. I also love that you're a perfectionist like me! Your end result here was gorgeous but I don't think I would have the stamina to get through a session that long, especially when you worked so hard and she changed her mind at the end. I feel like the color you achieved is so hard to get, especially in one session. You were so fair with your client and her happiness was more important to you than anything else. Even though at the time it feels thankless to have to rework her hair after doing what she asked for, in the long run that's the right thing to because you will get great word-of-mouth business and a good reputation. I applaud you on this one, you earned your stripes here.

  • @bunnylover2164

    That original coolish level 8 was perfect! The hardest color to achieve, especially coming from a level 3. So much thought, time and care went in to that, it must have been frustrating when she wasn’t really happy with it. Still, you gave her what she wanted with respect and patience. Still looked great but I was in love with the first color. You deserved a lot more than 600. I hope she gave a generous tip!

    I really appreciate your transparency, Kristi. I once asked popular person/stylist a question about how much she charged and she completely bit my head off. Needless to say I never listened to another word she had to say.

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  3 роки тому +4

      Yeah I feel like that's the common attitude with popular stylists....I feel like it's important to talk about pricing cause I too for the longest time had a hard time charging more accurately.... still do. While I get that the popular stylists on Instagram and whatnot probably charge way more, I'm an average person and I feel like I'd charge the same as anyone else. That's why I like including it cause depending on area, the amount of work for any service should be close to what all you guys should be charging too.... and I really want you guys to know that you need to up your prices and charge your worth and not all services take just 3 hours for $200.

    • @paulamarie

      @@hairbykristijennings6648 You're a great help! It's the way you explain things that's so helpful and we can use that and figure out for ourselves from there. I worked in a salon that wasn't charging enough and it was so much work. Needless to say it was a very busy place but it was completely exhausting. Anyway, I don't understand why some platform artists are so offended when asked about pricing. And the classes are so unaffordable for some of us! Thanks again for doing what you do!

    She was a young client and they want/ think one thing but are not prepared for this much of a transformation. Being a natural level 3/4 going to level 8 is a shock with her skin tones. The result was beautiful before the root shadow. An older client with this level would have left the first change. Probably an all over baby lights foiling same 8 level all over same toner mix leaving some dark in her hair would have worked. Olaplex alone is an added cost you deserved every penny! None of these clients understand the work / knowledge it takes for a stylist to be an artist in the salon. Great Job👍🏻

    That color turned out perfect for her, even though that blonde was a beautiful color, I think she may have felt uncomfortable with that blonde because of her heavy dark thick eye brows. If she really wants blonde a heavy shadow root is definitely the way to go. Great job, I wish I could go to you for my hair color.

    So $200 for the 12 scoops PLUS $220 for the application of the full head. Correct? I’m just trying to figure out my pricing for this technique not including all the root shadow and toning. I’m so bad at figuring out pricing for this technique and your pricing is perfect and explanation of it all in detail is so helpful! Thank you!

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  3 роки тому +4

      Yes, the full head application starts at $200 and goes up with product used. That's kind of the breakdown. But honestly, I think it's easier to charge hourly for these services. For big lightening services like these I charge hourly now. So find what is average for your local area or whatever your value is for yourself..... $75/ hr, $100/ hr...... whatever, and just charge that. I just tell clients it's easier to charge hourly and expect 5-8 hours on average and that will include everything that's needed for the service. So expect to pay $500-$800. Tell them up front and that way there's no surprises and straight away you'll know if their willing to pay or not. TAKE DEPOSITS for new clients

    Question about using hi lift permanent color blonde. I’m a beginner, I’ve read a few books and have attended a few classes and there is a formula that tells what level of hair color is needed in order to reach the desired level. Example if a NL 3 desired to be a level 7 blonde you would use Level 10 hi lift blonde with 30 vol developer and the results would be a level 7. Have you ever hear of it? Is it worth doing or should you just stick to a bleach out?

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  3 роки тому +1

      I personally would still use bleach..... for the cost alone.
      1 box of, say matrix SoColor (a cheaper line) is just under $9.00. Add developer, the product cost alone would be ridiculous for a service like this. I practically used a whole can of bleach on her alone, roughly $25 total with developer / olaplex. The amount of tubes of color to do this service would probably be 5 tubes, at least. The product cost just for that would be roughly $60. I'd have to charge probably $25 / extra bowl of color vs $15/ extra bowl of bleach. That would be about $300 for the client on just extra product charges. Also, hi lift/ permanent color would probably give very hot roots, no matter how much you try to prevent them. I feel like mid section - ends would still not lift very well, also taking into consideration youd have to be 100% sure that it's virgin hair and from my experience, a client thinks they have virgin hair if they haven't colored in the past year or two.... not realizing someone with long hair, that hair could be 5 years old with all that color history from the past 5 years they are forgetting. The truth is client will lie about their hair and I'd hate to do that service and have it not turn out or the ends not lift cause the client forgot about old color on the hair. Another thing too would be I just don't think the hair would get light enough. To get to a level 8/8.5 from a 3, I just don't think permanent color can do it evenly, the root area, maybe a level 7 but I personally don't think it would work. It would be interesting to do it on a model to find out tho.....

    • @hairbykristijennings6648

    • @azhaircountess9798
      @azhaircountess9798 3 роки тому

      Ok technically that might get you to a level 7, but it’s gone be orange af. Do you understand how little pigment is in a level 10 color? And on top of that if you’re using 30 vol you’re getting less deposit. So how are you controlling all of the underlying pigment that you will be exposing in the process? I’m sorry but this makes no sense when you think about it.

    So as a newbie, when you say I am gonna mix these colors, do you mix all these colours in the same tub or you would apply these colors seperately in different sections of hair?

    My hair started off around the same color (I’m naturally blonde and used box dye 😩) and the first time I got my hair bleached it turned orange so I got toned a brownish red. I just got it bleached again with foils and she said it turned blonde except the last few inches of my hair which stayed orange. So she put a “chestnut” color toner on. If I had the toner removed do you think it would go back to the bleached color? Or would I need more bleach? Or will Malibu CPR remove the toner color and leave it blonde?

    She pretty much got her head bleached and toned for $600? The products used on her head weren't over $100. So that's a $500 profit yeah it was pretty but not $600 pretty.....idk... maybe it ain't meant for me to understand .🤷‍♀️

    I have many clients that were not happy with the light ashy blonde even though they asked for it. Makes me so sad of all the hard work I put in. Everyone wants to be ashy, no orange (usually there’s no orange in pictures they sent but they would still see orange) and in the end they were like “it’s too ashy for me” 🤔

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  3 роки тому +1

      Yep! And that's when you charge extra to adjust it. We did our job, I let clients know we can always adjust it if you aren't happy, let me know now before you leave cause it's an easy fix..... now that doesn't mean im not charging for it if I did my job and they just decided they don't like how it looks on them....

    Maybe Purple shampoo would help. I know how you feel I go through the same thing. The price is hard to figure out, it's a long process, you want to be nice and everything, you want them to come back. I charge less than what you charged.

    I'm just curious lol but how is the cost of the service calculated to $600ish? is it because of the cost of the all the products and renting the chair (or running a salon)? That just sounds like so much money to be spending on hair especially when your roots are just going to grow back in a couple of weeks. Great video 💕

      Humble bee, this is a luxury professional service, it took 8 hours. Sure there’s overhead costs but You are paying for the advanced skill of the colorist. This isn’t something you can just walk into any salon and have it done properly.
