Jamie Dana this is so helpful! From the blending technique to fixing the mistakes 😬 wondering how long did this take from finish to end? I’m definitely gonna try the sectioning technique you used as well. Great job Jamie!
Gorgeous. I learned to use the Secret Sauce. i have it on hand , anyway, (thanks to you) it's not expensive and it just means I don't have have to have , yet another, conditioner to store. Also, the fix technique. Very helpful. I always wonder how you gauge how much space between the sections on super thick dark hair. I end up making them a little too blonde (yes, there IS such a thing) because I am nervous that the highlight might get lost, OR IF i use a wider weave, too chunky. As I watched I thought, "Wow, that's alot of depth. Will we see the highlight?", but the result was gorgeous. Oh! also the clip in front of the backcombing! Such. " OMG! DUH!" moment for me with those clients with that super springy
Wow!! Great video, yet again!! I loved the quick fix for the spotting!! Let’s face it, we’ve all done it!! I love how you handled that situation!!!!👍🏻❤️
The trick to fix the balayage "mistakes” that was awesome I never thought about it . Doing it on the chair without getting all the hair wet, you’re amazing 😉
Can I just say I love how you were so honest with us about thhat one piece not being blended. It feels good to know stylists as great as yourself sometimes have little mistakes. Thanks for the trick!
Yeah I mean it's great for a stylist but it's shit for a client. I've had that happen to my own hair. It looks great in the chair, then when that toner washes off 3 weeks later you see it and it looks like shit. We know it's a bleach job. So it's either retone or go back to the chair. That's the problem with bleach it's great for changing up a whole base but if it's not perfect and you're a natural 2-3 going blonde it's a real bitch to maintain. $$$
Anonymous girl no human is perfect. Mistakes are inevitable. She was showing us a technique to fix an honest mistake. If you don’t like how a bleach and tone looks on darker brown hair than get something that’s easier for YOU and your budget. No one is putting a gun to your head forcing you to be blonde at a level 3 😂

Thank you so much! I’m a military spouse overseas and we are still not allowed to go to a salon off base. It’s been two years since I’ve had a stylist I trust color my hair and al considering doing it myself. This video was so clear and concise, thank you.
Thank you for show us on hair other then cacausions. Majority of my clients are not cacausions and it's a whole different ballgame with their hair. Loving all the tips and tricks! Thank you!
I have very dark brown hair. I love high lights. Stylist are afraid to use stronger bleach ex 40. I do it myself now and use 40 bleach Schorzkoff (spelling?). I have to leave it on for 1hour minimum to get the lift I need to be able to tone to a beautiful blonde. A toner will not help orange hair. This is what I get every time I pay to get my hair done. I have no breakage but I do use the quality stuff. I wished I could find someone like Jamie Dana❤️. Highlights helps to camouflage my grays.

I once had a stylist notice a piece of my hair that didn't get bleached and it made it look like a dark spot in the back, and she told me she could fix it if I came back next time (she recommended i came back again to lighten my color because it was orange). I paid and then I found out I would have to actually make another appointment and pay again just to have her fix it. I ended up emailing the shop pictures later and I was able to go back and get it fixed (they just dyed my whole hair blonde instead pretty much). The whole experience was uncomfortable (especially having to go back) so I LOVE that you recognize to fix what you see. I'm still nervous to go back to a salon after that :/
I have to say this is one of the best videos I've ever watched with such attention to detail...including a quick fix!!! I'm Angelina, and I'm a hair stylist~
I'm really happy I found you on youtube! I'm still in hair school, and even though I'm a barber I feel like I learned alot and I cant wait for more videos! I enjoy how educational you are at explaining, and how clearly you speak. Keep up the beautiful work!
I love that you went the extra mile to take the few couple of minutes to fine-tune the pieces that were off. That makes such a difference! It is so hard to find a stylist who is an extreme perfectionist and genuinely cares about the final results. Usually people are just looking to get paid and rush through it. Looks great! I learned so many new tips from you thank you so much
I finally used your trick with the conditioner the other day! It helped soooo much!! It was so cool! I actually did a sombrè. She wanted to bring her natural down further, while only leaving the tips of her hair blonde. It worked beautifully! Thank you so much!

I’ve been a hairstylist for 30 years and have seen trends come, go, and repeat, so it’s sometimes hard to stay excited or motivated. I just found your vlog and you’re really inspiring to me - I had not heard about a “blending diffuser” before and I’m totally going to try it. Thank you!
My roommate somehow trusts me to do her hair when I have no formal training. I’ve used this video for reference every time and it turns out really well. Just goes to show you’re a great teacher!
You are wonderful! Love your honesty and your approach with those tiny little blunders. Definitely something to try. Beautiful work and thank you for your insights.
Jamie Dana I went to my supplier and stood for a good 15 min looking for that milk rinse. I don’t think Canada has it! Sad face! The girl I asked stared at me like a dear in head lights, ha
I bought this blending agent yesterday and going to try this technique tomorrow!! I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Your videos are so informative and help so much! Thank you for what you do to help us!
omg me too im watching. so manny videos and im doing a rose gold balayage on my ginger (dyed) hair! I tried the lower sections first as I was afraid it would be terrible but now that I saw it's actually nice I'm going to do the top sections tonight
Hi! So I’m doing my hair at home (I know yikes) and I also have super long hair. Anyways, my question is how/ when do you get out the teasing? Because I know if I did it after I washed it, it would be a permanent nest in my hair. So when do you comb that part out?
All the best hair stylists (like you) live so far from me 😔 I can’t find anyone to work with my hair like this. Mine is very similar to this client - very dark, very thick. I get my hair done maybe once or twice a year - it takes hours and hours and I feel stylists end up rushing through my hair once they start to realize how long it takes to section for balayage like this. I end up like hers where the whole bottom layers of my hair look mostly unchanged. Ahhh. Just wish I could find a stylist who puts as much care and technique into this like you did. Awesome job.
I would recommend checking out instagram to find a stylist in your area! Set up a few consultations as well and you'll find someone. Thanks for watching!
I just discovered you!! What a great teacher. I've been doing hair for like forever.... I recently got life back to my career by learning all these amazing color techniques. So glad I found you!!
The way you’re so positive, uplifting, and informative realllly helped with my understanding! Videos are harder for me to learn from- I’d rather have a 1 on 1 class. My main trouble with balayages in general is saturation. Too little of a section, bleeding. Too big of a section, spotting due to uneven saturation. Seeing you weave and do it that way just blew my mind and 5 years later I’m excited to do my next balayage 😂
Where the acidic milk rinse meets the lightener, I always flick up with the corner of the bristles of the brush and that helps me keep it less harsh. I'll try the clean brush technique too though 🖤🖤🖤
Omg I absolutely love your videos for so long I didn't know how to provide this service and I just did one yesterday like a balayage ombre mix using your technique came out gorgeous THANKS so much for sharing!
We love how real and authentic you are! Not every piece is going to be perfect and every head is a new learning experience! It turned out amazing!! (Also, obsessed with the milk rinse!)
Looks Fabulous, and THANK you so much for sharing your tips and technique! I appreciate hair stylists who strive to be genuine artists, and truely care about their work, and their clients!
I just love watching your videos I learn so much your techniques are amazing and easy to follow. Keep them coming. I’m a stylist from Vancouver BC and I’m so inspired by your videos
I had my hair done recently (like 2 days ago) and the color came out about the same idk what to do next any shampoo& conditioner recommendations or how long should I wait to wash after getting done.
Love how you showed the correction piece. I have done that too (have had to correct a small section) and it stinks when it happens but yes, keeps you in control.
Hi just wanted to come on here and say i watched alot of your videos before my first balayage/ foilayage today and your techniques helped me so much im still a student and this was my biggest fear and thanks to yur help i killed it thank you for your post they have helped me so much
Love love love that spotty trick!!! Omg. Thank you for mentioning that. I feel like us stylists are always pressured to turn out perfect hair in one shot and that’s not always the case ♥️
What I loved about this video is it made me realize I’m meant to be a hairstylist because being a hairstylist is everything I love all in one ☝️ ❤️ an artist 👩🎨 science🧪 experimenting helping people feel great about themselves a therapist because lord knows our clients love to vent to us and honestly I love it that they feel comfortable with me also I love beauty thank you for putting this content out because it helps people like me who are trying to educate them selves to get better I haven’t started in a salon because I’ve been wanting to educate myself more on color
Exactly what I always try explaining to people is its so much more than cutting a straight line or slapping some dye on hair! Its everything to me when I see someone be on top of the world at thee nd of a service! 😍😍😍
@@aylatrejo7108 you really need to start in the salon though! You learn so much hands on! If you have any questions you can also ask me if you want to! This is my passion and knowledge is only worth somethibg if you share it 😉
Danikah Smith thank you I really appreciate that and I’m actually going to be taken classes and working in a makeup place because I also do makeup and love it but I do hair at home on family so I will definitely get some practice but I plan on getting in the salon but a lot of places where I live want you to start as a hairstylist but I don’t have clientele yet for that
hello!! I really love this video, but I would like to ask, what is the “blending agent” ? is it only clear, what you put close to the roots? I am soo curious! but you are brilliant ❤️
HAIR WIZARD GODDESS!! You are super cool, real, and an EXCELLENT teacher. trainer, creator, and A GREAT PERSON WHO SHARES HER TECHNIQUES. FORMULAS, THE BACKWARD SHADOW ROOT (me too, it makes more sense to me) HOW TO PREVENT/RECOVER FROM MISTAKES, HOW TO SALVAGE.... HAIR CORRECTOR!!! I CANT SAY ENOUGH.
Thanks for such an informative detailed video it’s so easy to follow and thanks for your honesty bc I can’t imagine anyone being that honest but I agree w you that being the one to point out the hair that was bothering you instead of taking a chance bc it takes you out of the drivers seat hoping that your client wouldn’t notice it.
I love your videos we have a similar style in how we work and I love how in depth you explain, although I have over a decade of experience in the field I still enjoy the refresher and the fresh perspective thank you 😊 keep shinning!
Who else is watching that isn’t a stylist! Just me? Okay, Seriously though, love your videos and I want you to do my hair, even though I’m in New York and you’re in Cali.
I love the way u did her blend. I had my hair done 3 times over by a salon who completed destroyed my hair. I ended up going somewhere else but still they didn't do what I wanted. My haie is dark brunette but now its different shades of orange blonde. I wouldlive for u to fix my hair, any chance of getting appt with you pls??
Does the "blending agent" area that you add lightener to end up diluting the lightener causing a warmer area? Love this technique but nervous about having conditioner mixing with lightener.
Im a freelance hairstylist and i love ur videos. Im learning a lot from it. Thanks for the last tip. Too bad in Malaysia toners are not easy to find. And if we need to order its only in bulk and too expensive. So that's why we always ended dyeing with 3vol dev after each bleach processes. But thanks its very informative New Fan from Malaysia ❤️
That will depend on what she is using as far as shampoo and products that will protect her color! She may need a purple shampoo to help maintain it also if she has hard water. Thanks for watching!
This is what I asked my hairdresser. But she said it's impossible to keep my own collor and blend it with lighter ash colors and be it blended well... But this looks amazing! So everything is possible
I love the graceful way you addressed the 'not so perfectly blended' spot. Also I went to Cosmoprof to get the Biolage blending agent and it was not on the shelf. In the Sacramento area at least, we have to order it at the desk. Just hoping to save anyone else from staring at the shelf for 10 minutes wondering where it is.😊 Very excited to try it.
Hey Jamie! I love your techniques and videos. I am curious what you feel the difference is in between the conditioner and acidic milk rinse. I absolutely love using the rinse after a color service myself so I am definitely going to try it this way. Also, do you charge extra when using the milk rinse? Thanks a bunch! Xoxo
I found this SO helpful! I implemented your tips for using a “blending agent”, clipped my teasing in place (her hair was so soft! Thank you!), and the dry brush to clean up. It totally stepped up my balayage game!!! THANK YOU!
I do this technique but without the blending agent, comes out gorgeous. I usually have to do a little blending trick too because that area where the dark meets the light is sometimes too warm and uneven afterwards so that little extra step just makes it transition so beautifully. You are such a real stylist, thank you Jaime.
Me encanto!! I was looking for a balayage with babylights cause i was told that it would look good withmy natural dark hair, and now im so doing this 😁😁
Your work is so incredible! I use a lot of your techniques in my own work! I do have a question, how much time does it take you to do this technique? I feel I’m a very picky stylist and I like to take my time with my work. It also may be because I use lower developers 10-25 when I do this.
@@JamieDana I'm SO GLAD I READ THIS !! BEEN WONDERING THE SAME ! YOUR A AMAZING TEACHER . Thank you so much Penelope!
You are an amazing colorist & teacher You did a fantastic balayage on her extremely dark hair.. so impressive... Best wishes and continued success
The blending agent is soooooooooooooooooo smart!!!!
Thank you so much!
Stunning! I like how you placed the foils on a diagonal. I can't wait to try it.
This was such a fantastic tutorial! I do my hair at home and can’t wait to try your blending technique today
I'm so happy to hear you loved this video. Thanks for watching!
I’m a newly qualified stylist going into work soon & im so happy I came across this thank you 🤍 nice to see even experts make mistakes sometimes x
Hi! So I’m doing my hair at home (I know yikes) and I also have super long hair. Anyways, my question is how/ when do you get out the teasing? Because I know if I did it after I washed it, it would be a permanent nest in my hair. So when do you comb that part out?
While washing with a wide tooth comb
Jamie Dana you make probably THE best tutorials ever :) SO informative, SO detailed, SO educational, hats off to you, Girl :) thanks a lot!!!
Hey Monika Berlińska I'm so happy to hear you've learned so much from my videos! Thank you so much for watching.
I love how conciencious u are! I agree.... I are a gd stylist and teacher! I really enjoy watching ur videos! 😊
I just discovered you!! What a great teacher. I've been doing hair for like forever.... I recently got life back to my career by learning all these amazing color techniques. So glad I found you!!
Aw that makes me so happy to hear!
I'll try the clean brush technique too though
🖤🖤🖤
Omg I absolutely love your videos for so long I didn't know how to provide this service and I just did one yesterday like a balayage ombre mix using your technique came out gorgeous THANKS so much for sharing!
Hey Ashley O I'm so happy to hear you've learned so much from my videos! Thank you so much for watching.
We love how real and authentic you are! Not every piece is going to be perfect and every head is a new learning experience! It turned out amazing!! (Also, obsessed with the milk rinse!)
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
i love the way you do sectioning the hair ...easy for me to learn your tehniques unlike the other hair stylist..
Hi! I always have issues with darker hair not lifting past the orange. How long was your processing time?
My favorite thing in this video was how detailed you are on each step!!💛💙💜💚❤
Looks Fabulous, and THANK you so much for sharing your tips and technique! I appreciate hair stylists who strive to be genuine artists, and truely care about their work, and their clients!
Thank you so much love! I'm so glad you liked this video.
Thank u soooo much for talking in detail and depth about what your doing step by step. Probably the best balayage video i have watched on u tube :)
Hey Mary Huss I'm so happy to hear you've learned so much from my videos! Thank you so much for watching.
Mary Huss too much talking though...
The entire video was good. It makes me feel like a pro even tho ive never gone to school
Thanks so much for watching!
So did this technique today and it was wonderful..thank you..her hair came out amazing....I just used regular conditioner!!
I'm thrilled to hear you loved this. Thanks for watching!
Jamie is absolutely amazing!! She's one of the best UA-camrs ever!! I love the way she does highlights!! 💖
Thank you so much! I just learned so much from you. Dark-haired clients are so difficult for me.
Gorgeous, and i love how honest you were with your work. That’ll keep people coming back, you inspire me every day! ❤️
Thanks so much Melissa. I really appreciate that.
Thank you for doing a tutorial on dark thick hair !❤ best tutorial I've seen, clear step by step instructions, you're amazing thank you !
I love you are real and even let us know your imperfection w a blend! As a cosmetologist I appreciate it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much!
Love how you showed the correction piece. I have done that too (have had to correct a small section) and it stinks when it happens but yes, keeps you in control.
The client is so gorgeous! I LOVE the end result of her hair! Thank you for the tips too, I can’t wait to try some of these!
I'm so happy you loved this video. Thanks for watching!
Hi just wanted to come on here and say i watched alot of your videos before my first balayage/ foilayage today and your techniques helped me so much im still a student and this was my biggest fear and thanks to yur help i killed it thank you for your post they have helped me so much
Fantastic! Really! She looks beautiful and the quality of the hair is perfect, you are amazing
I'm thrilled to hear you loved this! Thanks for watching.
Love love love that spotty trick!!! Omg. Thank you for mentioning that. I feel like us stylists are always pressured to turn out perfect hair in one shot and that’s not always the case ♥️
Thanks so much for watching!
I absolutely love how confident, articulate and creative u are, I’d love for u to be my stylist!👌🏼🙏🏽💃💫🥰
Thank you so much!
Danikah Smith yesss ❤️❤️😊😊
@@aylatrejo7108 you really need to start in the salon though! You learn so much hands on! If you have any questions you can also ask me if you want to! This is my passion and knowledge is only worth somethibg if you share it 😉
Danikah Smith thank you I really appreciate that and I’m actually going to be taken classes and working in a makeup place because I also do makeup and love it but I do hair at home on family so I will definitely get some practice but I plan on getting in the salon but a lot of places where I live want you to start as a hairstylist but I don’t have clientele yet for that
I love that ur videos are very to the point and educational. U don’t waste time where u don’t need to. Im subscribing ❤️
hello!! I really love this video, but I would like to ask, what is the “blending agent” ? is it only clear, what you put close to the roots? I am soo curious!
but you are brilliant ❤️
Its just a light conditioner
No, in this video instead of her normal light condtioner ', she used a ACV, milk cream she says it in the start if video and shows the blue bottle .
Wow it's so gorgeous!! I would loovvee this look on my hair which is similar naturally to hers.
Thanks so much for watching!
First time waching and I love your work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😍🌹🌹
Thanks so much for watching my videos. I really appreciate it!
Thank you for teaching us , and for giving us your secrets ! Thanks to you I have learn so many things ! Love you ♥️
Hey Maria Goicochea I'm so happy to hear you've learned so much from my videos! Thank you so much for watching.
😘😘😘
You have toady changed my style!!!! You are the best !!! Love every single video that you post, they’re so educative and inspired!!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
I love your videos we have a similar style in how we work and I love how in depth you explain, although I have over a decade of experience in the field I still enjoy the refresher and the fresh perspective thank you 😊 keep shinning!
Who else is watching that isn’t a stylist! Just me? Okay,
Seriously though, love your videos and I want you to do my hair, even though I’m in New York and you’re in Cali.
Aw thank you so much for watching!
It's used just to help blend, so you'll want to still be clean in where you are applying your lightener. Thanks for watching!
So is the blending agent just conditioner?
Jamie Dana can you explain for me again step by step everything you used pls
Im a freelance hairstylist and i love ur videos. Im learning a lot from it. Thanks for the last tip. Too bad in Malaysia toners are not easy to find. And if we need to order its only in bulk and too expensive. So that's why we always ended dyeing with 3vol dev after each bleach processes. But thanks its very informative New Fan from Malaysia ❤️
i'm only halfway through the video but does this color take any toning or purple shampoo to maintain?
That will depend on what she is using as far as shampoo and products that will protect her color! She may need a purple shampoo to help maintain it also if she has hard water. Thanks for watching!
This is what I asked my hairdresser. But she said it's impossible to keep my own collor and blend it with lighter ash colors and be it blended well... But this looks amazing! So everything is possible
Love it all. Quick fix was great! I needed that 🤙
Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much for watching!
Hey Jamie! I love your techniques and videos. I am curious what you feel the difference is in between the conditioner and acidic milk rinse. I absolutely love using the rinse after a color service myself so I am definitely going to try it this way. Also, do you charge extra when using the milk rinse?
Thanks a bunch! Xoxo
You are an awesome hair colorist and great teacher
So much to learn from you
Thanks a ton
I found this SO helpful! I implemented your tips for using a “blending agent”, clipped my teasing in place (her hair was so soft! Thank you!), and the dry brush to clean up. It totally stepped up my balayage game!!! THANK YOU!
I do this technique but without the blending agent, comes out gorgeous. I usually have to do a little blending trick too because that area where the dark meets the light is sometimes too warm and uneven afterwards so that little extra step just makes it transition so beautifully. You are such a real stylist, thank you Jaime.
I love how you explain everything, fast, simple and thank you to share your "secret ingredient" with us. 😉
Thanks Lucy! I'm so happy to hear you loved it.
Me encanto!! I was looking for a balayage with babylights cause i was told that it would look good withmy natural dark hair, and now im so doing this 😁😁
Omg I needed this! I’m still a baby stylist and need to perfect this look. Thank you!
Pick up a few more tips when I watched again!! Thanks Jamie!!
Your work is so incredible! I use a lot of your techniques in my own work! I do have a question, how much time does it take you to do this technique? I feel I’m a very picky stylist and I like to take my time with my work. It also may be because I use lower developers 10-25 when I do this.
This takes me between 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours :) Thanks for watching!
@@JamieDana I'm SO GLAD I READ THIS !! BEEN WONDERING THE SAME ! YOUR A AMAZING TEACHER . I def want to use these techniques along with some higher up foils I like less of the roots, and I also am going to have to bump my base a level but thank you girl ! I have been watching and following you for awile !! So I can do it .. I'm going to use more of THIS TECHNIQUE WITH MY MIL , SHE HAS THAT DARK BASE : ) .. I gotta add in some Auburn for her as well too.. so I'm researching to freshen my brain on what I need to order for her service . : )
Just found your channel and I’m obsessed! Your work is gorgeous and you make everything so easy to understand and I can’t wait to try your techniques👏🏻😁💕💕💕
Hey Michelle Kendle I'm so happy to hear you've learned so much from my videos! Thank you so much for watching.
Coool. I really liked the last part with the 5n and just towel rinse it and that’s it! 🤗
Thank you so much!
Hi hallo I'm from Germany thank you for the best tutorial ever. I'm still doing my schooling 😊 and this video helped me a lot. Can you please tell me what blended products you use?
Beautiful work, I love the color her eyebrow color are really dark so it was beautiful to leave the dark color alone because it’s more natural when is growing out 👍🏻
Thanks so much, so glad you loved it!
I had to subscribe after you shared your trick. I mean, what was I even waiting for?? You’re an amazing hairstylist!❤️❤️
Thanks so much for subscribing! That makes me so happy to hear.
