I made magnesium lotion in 20 minutes last night at midnight. It was THAT easy! Wow!!! Thank you so much for this video.
I changed it slightly - and even as a literal first time beginner.... it still made a FANTASTIC balm!
Here's what I did/used. I'm so very happy with the result and so is my husband!
I used 1/2 cup of my lavender magnesium oil
    1/2 cup of tallow
    2 tbsp of avocado oil
    1.5 tbsp of beeswax
About 20 drops of mint essential oil
I followed the same steps you did and ended up with a balm that feels VERY high-end and absolutely luxurious. THANK YOU, again for making this video - without your little lesson on UA-cam, I would never have thought to do this. The reason I added a little extra wax is because I don't have shea or cocoa butter on-hand, and my ingredients are a little runny. I thought the little extra beeswax would offset the runny oil and tallow, and set up nicely. I now have a very creamy balm which is FINE for us. LOL!
To make the lavender magnesium oil: I combined the mag. flakes (I have the same brand of flakes that you do) into my water and let them dissolve. I made a quart of oil. While the oil was still very hot, I added 1/4 cup of organic dried lavender flowers to it and let it steep (like tea) for about 20 minutes. When the mixture was significantly cooled, I strained the flowers out of the oil and put the lavender scented magnesium oil back into the clean mason jar. It's been stored for a couple months in my apothecary cabinet away from the light and heat to keep the herbal properties of the lavender protected from breaking down in the light. It still smells soooo lovely. It retained its relaxing scent so nicely. Yay!

I just made this recipe. I didn’t think to look in the description at why beeswax isn’t used 😣
I blended the crap out of it tho so hopefully it stays together.
Also, I had Shea butter on hand not cocoa butter. I will NOT be making that mistake again. I hope Cocoa butter smells better than Shea. I had to use a ton of essential oil to try and mask the off putting smell Shea butter has and it barely made a difference!😖
I will never again use Shea butter for my hygiene products. I just purchased some organic Cocoa butter and the Candelilla wax so I will probably make a 2nd batch using that.
Other than that I have subscribed to this channel! I can’t wait to explore more homemade recipes! Thank you! ❤️

One thing you can do is use the lotion from the pot straight away. Once you've finished jarring up your lotion just start applying what's left in the pot on yourself!! This will use what's left and then the pot is easier to clean. after that good hot water and soap will do the rest.

I have a question, water and oil don't mix. So when you put the flakes into water and then mix, it isn't soluble. So how does that work?

The magnesium flakes do dissolve in the water. We also have an updated video/recipe for this magnesium lotion!

you are using water- why aren't you also using a preservative? (there are also vegan preservatives if you don't want to use the broad spectrum varieties) - water harbours bacteria

From my understanding the magnesium chloride acts similarly to the way salt does and acts as a natural preservative making it not necessary for the recipe specifically (would be necessary for most other lotions). Thanks for watching!

What is the purpose of the bees wax? Obviously it can't get into the skin. Why use it? Just trying to understand.

The texture but in our updated video/recipe we switched to using candelilla wax that we've found works better at keeping the lotion together without any separation.

You should be able to! Full disclosure, I never have. But I don't see why you couldn't like tallow balm!

Hey :) Just FYI with all the health stuff you're working on, I learned from people like Kori Meloy that iron is a huge issue. Too much iron. We are lied to that we are iron deficient. Most of us are iron toxic. The iron is hiding in our tissue which does not get tested for. So using iron pans is not good. Had to swap all mine out. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment! And yes, I’ve been learning about iron overload as well. We monitor our mineral levels with htma’s and bloodwork to make sure things stay in balance. This is definitely important to keep in mind though!! Thanks for watching :)

If your cast iron pans are seasoned, the food isn’t touching any iron.

Good question! I’m still using some that I made in February and it keeps just fine. The only thing you will likely notice is that overtime a small amount of the magnesium water will separate out leaving some droplets at the top. I just mix it in with my finger and use. I’d say it would be good at least 6 months-1 year. Thanks for watching!!
