      @lkayh 3 роки тому +12

      I don’t think you can say that other reactions are necessarily dishonest. I’ve seen quite a few where it’s clear to me that the reviewer is pretending to be shocked (click bait). But classical voice teachers don’t always listen to metal, and so this kind of thing can legitimately take them by surprise. My background is more mainstream rock/pop/r&b, with lots of opera and musical theater, and I literally had never heard a woman make that kind of sound before-and I’ve been around awhile.

    • @DroctorKloebner
      @DroctorKloebner 3 роки тому +1

      @@lkayh yeah but the majority of these people aren't vocal tachers, they are youtubers who earn money with clicks and they know exactly what they're doing. given how old this song is by now literally every youtuber who does reaction videos has at least heard about it or even seen it before.

    • @lkayh
      @lkayh 3 роки тому +2

      @@DroctorKloebner I guess UA-cam is very selective about what hits my feed, probably because I’m pretty selective about what I click on. For the most part when it comes to unique vocalists like Tati, Diana Ankudinova, Dimash (JEEZ!), Sohyang, etc., I prefer to hear from vocal coaches and musicians who know what is happening and can give informed explanations and opinions. And when something legitimately takes them by surprise, it’s really fun to see. Anyway, I don’t see or click on a lot of reaction vids if seems like the reactor won’t understand the skill and technique behind what they’re hearing.

    I like Jinjer, and I've watched a few vocal coach reactions to the transition in Tatiana's singing. It's nice for a cheap laugh to see people who are blown away by a woman producing a metal scream/growl. It's a refreshing and good thing that I can also see a metal vocalist breaking down what she is actually singing, not just the fact that 'wymen can't scream, what is this' Thank you

  • @alondite215
    @alondite215 3 роки тому +155

    Nice to see a vocal coach reaction where the coach actually understands what she's doing to produce her growls/screams. So many others are absolutely dumbfounded by her distortion technique.
    Now can you tell me what the hell Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die is doing? Because he sounds incredible but it doesn't sound like any technique I'm familiar with, or least not when he performs it.

    • @bepkororoti8019
      @bepkororoti8019 3 роки тому +6

      He's doing fry screams or more like what is known as "heat", so voice with (a lot of) distortion, the singer of rise against does the same thing and the dude of anti flag, as well. Although I'm not really sure where the distortion really comes from physically, maybe it's just the flappy stuff like the soft palet and the false chords?

    • @sebarhap
      @sebarhap 3 роки тому +1

      There's a thing called arytenoid distortion, it's what Tool does, and Chester Bennington. Andrew Sowthworth has demonstrated this type of distortion before in his how to rasp and high scream tutorials.
      Maybe it's what you are looking for.

    Why did this reaction end up being the only video that helped me learn false chords? The noise he made when explaining it is literally something I did all the time as a kid, it was my "monster voice". Don’t know why I was paying more attention to the instruments than the vocals during a vocal analysis, but damn that snare is nice.

    Great getting a perspective from someone who knows the growling side - subbed. It would be great to get your analysis of one of their songs where she uses her low growls too - Who Is Gonna Be The One official live or Pit Of Consciousness live in Kiev. I've felt like I was hearing that transition between false cord growls and fry screams in those because she starts ramping up to the scream from a much lower growl in both of those. Of the two I'd prefer Pit Of Consciousness since it is newer and her voice is always growing in power. Cheers!

It’s funny because most people I show this to ask if it’s real, but IMO what is great about Jinjer is the songs are written and produced to be very reproducible live. Aside from a few random harmonies here and there there are very few overdubs and they pull it off VERY well live.

    I'm so glad you decided to do this song! It's such a good song from such an amazing band! Your breakdown of vocalists' techniques and giving your own input is such a cool insight!
    I would love to see a breakdown of Forlorn by For the Likes of You! It's such a great song, and their vocalist Austin Dickey seems to have so many different techniques that I'd LOVE to have your take on it! Thank you for the awesome vids!

    Amazing! I'd love to see you reacting to Retrospection and/or Pit of Consciousness, but if you wanna hear an song that she doesn't scream, Bad Water, such an amazing and underrated song

    That melody and esp the bass during the last section does sound Opeth-inspired.

    11:11 I love it to. I think its the emotion and the hand movements for "runs for death"

    Right! Good spot. Her scream has really short phrases, meaning she's using a lot of air.
    Haven't paid attention to it before.

    Tatiana said in an interview she grew up and listened to Lamb of god and took inspiration on Randy Blythe ..sorry might not have wrotte his name correctly..but you can hear a lot of Lamb of god tones into her singing...and i find that really cool of her..very nice feel to her voice, she got amazing clean..so versatile in what she does and truth is she is one of my fav metal vocalist with Courtney from spiritbox and Angela from Arch Enemy. She brings something new to the table and thats what i like about her. Thanks for the video and i love your band Kardashev, never heard music so powerfull and beautiful at the same time. Keep making awesome music like this.
