I actually played this game earlier this year in order to cull some games out of my backlog and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I specifically remember this game being put down rather often when it came out, but I think it's very charming despite its shortcomings. I don't think it's worth a full 60 bucks or anything, but I think it actually sits pretty nicely with the more AA tier games like the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes series. That isn't meant to put those types of games down either, because I think a lot of these games are way better than most of the triple A schlock that's put out year in and year out. I also absolutely agree that we need more games with this type of vibe. I can only think of a handful of games that represent the Salem Witch Trials in such a unique and interesting way. I also thought the sound design in the game was pretty neat as well.
Played this right when it came out (hearing it was inspired by Die Hard and being very confused at the time), definitely a game that I wish was just... a biiiiiit better. Scrap combat entirely, lean harder into exploration and story. Some REALLY cool ideas, would LOVE to see a modern sequel or spiritual (no pun intended) successor.
I remember completing it in a single day 1 sitting. I felt devs had their heart in right place. I love the world and game premise. Love the pixel hunting for clues (reminded me of old Point and Click games). I dug up few credits on Moby games on Airtight Games post breakup. I see people going to Naughty Dog, Ubisoft, Epic Games and so on. Few didn't have any further credits, so I assume they left games industry.
This game was one that I used to despise. Now it’s one of my personal favorites. It really deserves the resident evil treatment with a sequel and a remake because I could only imagine how gorgeous it would look on modern day consoles
I remember this sort of coming out in that early 2010's era where Square-Enix just kept publishing these high concept games that were interesting but also didn't feel like SE completely had faith in them either and just wanted to make a quick buck or two and instantly deemed them failures when they didn't make Final Fantasy numbers. This game, Sleeping Dogs, and (even though it's not good but it's hilarious) Mindjack. This game in particular has this feeling of being wrong time, wrong place with when it released. I feel like it would've done way better in the ps2/xbox/gamecube era, sort of a cult hit like Second Sight... or as a newer indie release on steam, probably with a bit more of a "old school ps1" feel to it. But yeah, this game is an odd duck. Not a bad game; very a kin to reading a short penny dreadful detective novel while on the train. I'm always hankering for some crime solving & detective elements in games (which is hilarious because I hate crime procedurals in other media). Thanks for another great video, cheers!!
Damn, much like a fucking herpes on a lip of a coledge grad, this game has a tendency to be lost for years only to - for some inexplicable fucking reason - mentioned maybe once before being banished into the realm of oblivion to marinade for a few winters more. Looking forward to viewing this vid, love. Pretty sure its gonna be good.
holy shit i remember watching a partial let's play of this years ago (must have been around when it came out) but never saw the end of the game, and i couldn't remember the name or find anything about it. i'd begun to convince myself it was some sort of fever dream 😂
I'm a huge fan of this game, as you know. It was a bit ahead of it's time and an adventure game before they made a huge return. Lots of great lore and world building with a nice mix of philosophies leaving you something to stee on for a while.
Such a fantastic video man, This game deserved better, and so did Airtight games. It really is a modern point and click adventure game and as a big fan of history it's cool to see someone not from the states learn about the horrible witch truals in salem but if you think that's bad check out Andover. I'm glad you covered the game to add to the small bit it got.
I love this channel. Always striking while the iron is stone cold and tucked away in a cobweb-covered corner.
A dish best served loupe warm

It’s on sale for $2 right now in the PlayStation store.
It's on that same sale on Steam right now.
damn this game is nostalgic af
I played this back in the day, but it's true the interesting side quests end in the middle of the game. Good video, Scott.
Thank you
I still can't believe I didn't realize the awful pun until you said something about it
The first time you encounter the evil spirits, and it fucking dashed at me max speed, I couldnt play anymore

It still looks great now!

I'm convinced that this game inspired Stray. 😼

Not many out there sadly. Mine, scotts, and The Summer of marks are the moat recent and others are only a small handful of big outlets.

@@ScottsGameAsylum ofc. Lock stock is one of my all times favorites
Your script and intonation are hilarious! Subbed
I enjoy the fact that Ronan still gets to have his ghost cigarettes when he dies. 😁

I remember not getting past the opening of this game, but I think I'll give it another shot. Great video as always!
I guess that ship wasn't so Airtight after all.
