Thanks I'm about to do my 2003 sl Sonoma 4 cylinder
Hope it goes smoothly for you!
Make sure to get new head bolts..
That added 90 degrees reminds me of back in the day when you could only an 8 grand tach. When we got to 8000 rpm's we would count to 3 and shift.
90 degrees, for those that don't have access to a digital torque wrench, is simply a 1/4 turn. Nice job guys.
Thanks for watching and for the added advice.
RTV on head bolts? Someone at a machine shop is laughing at you
Sheryl!!!!
Do you have to put it at top dead center when reinstalling the head
Not that I remember, since it’s just the push rods and rocker arms . I didn’t have to pull the timing chain so it’s already in time .
@@437MotorsportsandOutdoors We’ll thank you I’m doing a job on the same engine just wanted to make sure
What you think could be my problem? Was driving 2.2 Sonoma like normal, normal temps and oil pressure, starts losing power so I downshift and noticed motor sounded kinda funny, kept losing power till truck shut off and I came to a rolling stop. Tried to crank again and wouldn’t start. Blew a hole in the top of radiator too. No milky oil. Was told head gasket so I tore it down
Could be head gasket, I’m not 100% sure though.
Kinda sounds like it pressurized the cooling system with the radiator busting.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful!
@@437MotorsportsandOutdoorsokay thanks for your input. Head is getting resurfaced and they said gasket looks like it’s just old but could be leaking. I just hate to go at it blindly but that’s one way to learn lol
The remnants of Hurricane Elsa are blowing through so I'm stuck indoors with too much time to think. Just wondering what you think. I know the factory specs are 43 and 46 foot pounds, but wouldn't that extra 90 degrees sorta cancel out that 3 pound differential? :)
Glad you're safe, I'm thinking it would still be close to a 3 FP differential just more on each bolt. But I've never thought about it till now! Lol
How did you install rocker arms I can’t find a video anywhere?
I want to say we put the pushrods in and rotated the crank till each pushrod is all the way down and then put the rocker arms on , then torqued to gm specs I found online. Make sure NOT to have the spark plugs in, it'll make life easier.
Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Is there any specific way you have to put the rocker arms on?
If I remember correctly all I did was torque them to the specs I found online.
I need your Input on this job
What info do you need?
I'm on the east coast, I was asleep at 3am. Sorry
Omg where r youat
Did you use Dex Cool coolant before you did the head gasket?
I bought the truck with the head gasket blown already from my friends dad, so idk what was used antifreeze wise. I do know someone tried a couple different head gasket repairs in a bottle.
Ahh ok. That Dex cool gums up bad like that. Also I dig that torque wrench do you have a link to it by chance.
I got from Harbor Freight
